Pastries look delicious but giving 3 stars because of rude cashier during Saturday lunch. Other staff were nice but cashier was impatient when I asked if they had water after I ordered a croissant ( the previous customer in line took longer to order while I was already decided on what to order). He responded short that only bottled water was sold and charged me $8+ for a croissant. Is it supposed to be $8? Before or after a stroll on Stinson Beach, literally steps away you can visit this delightful cafe. It has indoor and outdoor seating. They prefer you wait outside for the bathroom that's indoors. We each had a mimosa with cava (like prosecco) with oj. I chose the fish tacos and my companion ordered the burger with bleu cheese and bacon. She said it was a little bland, as was my fish. Other times I've visited I don't recall the food I chose then as bland. Our server was sweet. We were lucky to get the last table right away at 1:15pm--it was in the shade, too. If you want to enjoy the Sunset go down at Stinson Beach with friends and dogs, come pre-order pizzas from Park Side Cafe! Pre-paid They have the snack shack etc.there.. But you know you want a fresh baked slice and well, why not a few boxes of pizza to share with family and friends on blankets. The service can be a little delayed from your pick up time slot you choose by 5-15 minutes, so choose accordingly but you still have a good couple of hours till sunset and beautiful time on the beach. We like the Hobb's pepperoni which has hot honey on it~ a nice surprise sweet & salty bite. And we always pick a pesto based one as we love their PESTO, (which you can find at all the local markets). Very friendly staff, hop back into your car and park FAR right of State park parking lot, just down the street, for the Dogs/Pets side of the beach. Voila~ a great Sunset with great local pizza. ** Caveat: I've only ever had Parkside after a long hike (7mi+ Dipsea Trail), so by the time I get here I'm usually famished. That said, I've dined here over 20 times over the years. Food: I typically opt for the Niman burger with a lot of toppings (aged white cheddar, avocado, golden gate bacon and pesto). The fries that come with it are also pretty good. Dining Space: The 'no frills' interior is not only welcoming, but the perfect backdrop for tired hikers and beach goers. Sometimes, especially after a workout or a long day at the beach, fancy restaurants can be a bit of deterrent. Service: The staff definitely know their clientele. As soon as we walk in, water arrives almost instantly, and they let us know where the restrooms were located. No matter our condition, they've always been super accommodating and I always look forward to the reward of dining there. Overall: Give this place a try if you're in Stinson Beach. At this point, Parkside is pretty much an institution and the experience is worth the slightly elevated prices. read more

We were ready for a drive to Stinson Beach on a beautiful sunny Sunday. We decided to stop at the Parkside because it was close walking distance to the beach. We chose to sit outside with umbrellas, picnic tables and benches. I ordered the HASH breakfast with scrambled eggs and my fellow traveler ordered mussels. We were both surprised how good both orders were! The hash was a mixture of grilled chicken and root vegetables Cooke just right and topped with pesto sauce. The scrambled eggs and outstanding toast were served on the side. Yum! I enjoyed every bite and was really more than I usually eat at midday. The mussels were in a creamy tomato based sauce...spicy and delicious with grilled bread for dipping as the mussels began to disappear and the sauce revealed. It was a nice surprise to later walk the beach with full stomachs and appreciate the incredible views on a sunny day along the Marin coast! read more

We come to Stinson every summer for a week and visit Parkside several times during each visit. This year, Parkside was really on it's game. We came for lunch as a group of nine people. We sat outside on a sunny day and enjoyed great service. The seafood tower, salads, steak, seafood stew, fish tacos, and burger were all perfect. In the past things have been inconsistent at times but not this year. We already ordered pizzas for take out one night and everything was ready right on time. We love their pizza options... We were visiting Stinson Beach when we decided to drop by for a quick bite at Parkside, which was about a three minute walk from the beach parking lot. There are two separate windows. One for the bakery and one for other food items. Ordering was easy, you wait in line and order at the window. For drinks, we decided to get a matcha latte and a regular latte. The matcha latte did not taste like matcha at all. The color was a very pale green and just tasted like sweet milk. The latte was good, but not impressive. As for the food, the ham and cheese croissant was stale and tastes like it's been sitting around. The fish tacos came with two large piece of fish, but it was very bland. It definitely needed some more chipotle sauce. Even with adding cholula, it still tasted very bland. Overall, not a bad place to get food when you just want something quick and easy, but don't expect flavor and freshness. There are benches and a park nearby to eat your food. I was seated after 4 people looked at me. A waitress went to another table to get an order then walked right past me. I ordered clam chowder and a cheeseburger. Clam Chowder was good the burger was raw. When I mentioned it they said that is medium or it would be dry . I could not eat something raw so I gave it back and said I will pay for the chowder. Do you know what this means? While ordering take out, staff was looking at my friends in a lustful way, saying "mami" when receiving the order. When I asked about receipts, which can be considered profanity -- as it's commonly used as a Spanish curse phrase they responded that it meant no mustard/relish/onion but we both got onion.... And they seemed flustered when trying to find an explanation. It's the only sit down restaurant in the small beachside town and on the expensive side. Some items were reasonably priced but some like Fish Tacos for $32 seemed ridiculously expensive. We had the raw & baked Hog Island oysters ( 3 each for $28) and the Clams & mussels in a white wine garlic broth with garlic toast ($26). The oysters were fresh and tasty. The mussels were not cleaned properly and as such had the typical zoo like odor about them. However the clams were very good and the broth was slurp to the last drop delicious. Excellent service. It's a pretty big restaurant with outside and inside seatings. Outside, you have the option of sitting in the sun or under an umbrella. They also have a walk up window that has to go foods like pizza, burgers and sandwiches at a lower price point. There's a charming little park across the street with benches where you can eat the food and enjoy the day. There's limited parking in front and they were filled when we arrived on a Thursday at about 1 pm. But we found street parking just a few minutes walking away. Happy Eating!! read more

We were starving after our 7.5 mile Dipsea hike, so Parkside it is! Gorgeous day to sit out on the patio with an umbrella for shade of course. We had super service from everyone we encountered. On our visit to Muir Woods National Monuments, we decided to visit Stinson Beach before going home since we've already visited the Muir Beach last time. After the hike at Muir Woods, we were hungry and there's no restaurant near the beach that's opened, there's only this restaurant next to the beach parking lot, so we went in to try it out even though the prices seem a little high but we expected this establishment costs each seat $15 just for a chair. The servers were quite attentive and pleasant. Every table has a little fan to chase away the flies which is quite effective. The menu has quite many dishes for lunch. My wife wanted to be safe to order the Burger and Fries, I always love fish and chips so I ordered that, which later my wife told me that I should order the fish taco. Anyhow, I don't think it matters what we order, the food here isn't meant to be special. The Burger is actually tasteless, no salt, no sauce, no flavor, In-n-Out would taste much better without anything. We share both of our dishes. This is the first time I have to eat burger with ketchup because it's so tasteless. The fish is crispy and moist but also tasteless, the batter has no flavor, the fish has no flavor, without the tartar sauce it's uneatable. Yes, the portions are big, the french fries could be better. Anyhow, we have to try all the restaurants, so at least we know, we should drive 8 miles the other way to In-n-Out for lunch which we would be much happier and less money. Horrible experience. I ordered the New York strip steak medium rare and it was medium well almost. I didn't want to send it but I did. I was nice to the staff, they took the plate back. It came back overcorrected. It was rare and the fries super hard. I was really hungry coming from the beach and tried eating it but only had half of it. When they asked me if I wanted a box I told the waitress no and that I needed to be honest, it wasn't good. Not the steak. Not the fries. Mind you it was a $49. We visited Parkside an hour or so before the dinner rush and were seated inside by the fireplace. In chilly January, this was an unexpected plus! Because we'd just hiked 8 and a half miles in 2 and a half hours with nothing but a bagel as fuel, our appetite drove us to order a ton of food. I joked about this a bit with Ronni, our server, who was exceptionally warm and funny and didn't judge us one bit! We had the avocado pasta (mushroomy and delicious), crab cake (crispy and fun), homemade bread (soft and warm and served with a really nice pesto), filet mignon (decent), a Lodi Zin (Central Valley represent), and bread pudding (holy shit) for dessert. Service was very good throughout the meal, from the personable Ronni to everyone working hard to prepare our food and bus the table. The bathroom situation was a little weird as other Yelpers have noted (the queue starts outside since this location has additional external counter service options), but I think it's profoundly unfair for Parkside to have such a low cumulative review because of facility constraints. The staff does an amazing job flexing between casual, brunch, and dinner food, and bathroom procedure should not be a defining characteristic of an otherwise splendid restaurant. read more

I didn't realize that hush puppies were the missing food from my diet I never knew I would be craving. Love at first bite. Oh, the maple butter. It made me wiggle in my seat. It was delectable. It was a blind shot on a list of many attractive sounding appetizers and I hit the bullseye. Tried two wines. Both were excellent. Kale salad was perfectly seasoned and helped balance the hush puppies... sort of. The food here is great. I saw like 7 fried chickens being prepped and ready to deliver and I'm a vegetarian but they looked so good I temporarily questioned my convictions. If you go as a large group, expect a wait. Amazingly Parkside Cafe feels very comfortable asking patrons of their snack bar to select a tip between 20/22/25% when buying coffees and pastries - but won't let them use the restroom because they aren't seated in the restaurant. They should decide if they are providing a full service or not and act consistently- if it is a take away place those tips aren't warranted and it isn't let the poor folk who just spent 75 bucks on pastries and tipped 20 percent use the restroom. Best brunch spot on the Stinson beach. I sometimes have brunch here when I hike the Dipsea trail on the way back. Friendly staff and breakfast is very fresh and their croissants and baked items are fresh and I kept going back to place. The eggs Benedict and savory soufflé with veggies is great option. read more

Came to the Cafe twice in our week at Stinson Beach, and the food was so satisfying the first time that I got the same thing my second time. I got the hash for brunch, and the pesto chicken and potatoes were super tasty, the root vegetable hash added were yummy while being healthy, the eggs (I got scrambled) were fluffy, and the toast was well-buttered. The dish was on the small side (I had to have an afternoon snack to make it to dinner) and a little oily though. My husband liked his veggie omelette more than the blueberry pancake ($10 for one!) and crab and shrimp benedict ($32). I found the Valencia Orange Juice refreshing (my husband said it was just okay). I was surprised it was only $5, until they brought it out in a tiny glass haha. I'm grateful for their flexibility, as they prepared my chopped salad without salami (all salads but the most generic mixed greens have meat). It's hard to go wrong with a healthy dose of Gruyère, but the overall dish wasn't super noteworthy. On a chilly NorCal beach day without other restaurants open, it's the right place to be, but the food itself is middling. Tam, made our way down to Stinson Beach and were pleasantly surprised to find Parkside Cafe for breakfast. I ordered the Hash, and my wife ordered the Egg Croissant. The hash was artisanal and created by a chef who really cares about food as art. Potatoes, chicken, roasted vegetable's with two over easy eggs on top. I've rarely encountered an establishment so determined to drive away potential customers. We simply wanted to start with some cold drinks, but we were treated like a nuisance rather than guests. They flatly refused to seat us unless we committed to a full lunch, delivering this 'rule' with an unbelievable amount of arrogance. What they failed to realize is that a simple drink often turns into a full meal once you see the menu--but they were too busy counting pennies to notice they were losing dollars. To treat people like mere transaction units instead of human beings is a pathetic business model. If you enjoy being judged by your 'potential check value' before you even sit down, this is the place for you. Overpriced food, average taste. Won't allow you to use the restroom if you aren't dining in. (Must really not want staff to spend more time cleaning the bathroom than can be avoided. But also to avoid a long line for their one bathroom. ) Whole pizza orders are takeout only and not allowed for dine in. Although the staff originally said the outside patio was okay. Then said because they aren't a pizzeria and they don't allow seating for pizza orders. I think it's just a quicker way for them to increase revenue without having to provide service. BAD customer service. Don't go here unless you want to be verbally abused and YELLED at by staff. Asked to use the restroom and they let us know we needed to sit down and order before. We were completely fine paying for food because there wasn't a bathroom anywhere close. If you order from the kiosks or order take out you can't use the bathroom either (they did not tell us). We tried to order an espresso and a beer just to start. They told us NO and started arguing with us while there was only one other table seated in the dining room. They kept telling us we had to order something to use the bathroom and when we insisted on drinks first before we even sat they said we could go somewhere else if we weren't going to eat food. I agreed to order food even though we had said we would from the beginning. I didn't even sit down yet or look at the menu and they were already ARGUING. I used the bathroom and the place is nothing fancy. It's a very small plain spot with extremely overpriced food. I would be a little more understanding if it was upscale and packed but there was pretty much no one else there. Now I know why! Since we couldn't get any drinks/cocktails we asked to get the food to go. The staff were very upset and extremely aggressive at that point. My husband was trying to explain we were willing to pay but it's like they wanted to just kick us out the whole time. The employee at the front had a clenched fist, shaking, and was speaking very loud like he wanted to start a real fight. They redirected us towards the front and said we could not stay if we weren't going to sit and eat. We ended up just ordering one $30 entree because this employee was so scared and intimidated by the owner that he had to absolutely ruin our dining experience. He emphasized that he was going to get in trouble if he allowed guests to use the bathroom if they didn't pay and sit for food. I feel very sorry for these employees and disappointed in the ownership. Employees should never be this scared of their boss that they are willing to make their customers feel unwelcome and unsafe. We were willing to get a couple rounds of drinks, apps and a meal to take to the beach with us. However, I have never been treated like this at a restaurant before. They missed out on customers willing to spend more money and tip more but they clearly don't care about this business. But I know karma will always come back to bite you in the butt read more

Second time going here for morning coffee on the way to dawn patrol and definitely the last time. Watched the woman who was at the window be extremely rude to every customer in line ahead of us and then it was our turn. She did the same as the first time got every part of the order wrong and was hostile when we explained what we got was not what we ordered. Terrible customer service, who needs it there are plenty of coffee places close bye with polite non hostile staff. The coffee and pastry were not that good anyway after putting up with the rude hostile staff member. read more
