Ugh. Breakers Cafe. What can I really say other than it was the only thing open. If you're looking for subpar fair that you'll have to sell a kidney to afford, this is your spot. For $70+ our party of two received an order of 2 disappointing fish tacos piled extra high with crudely cut raw red onion which sat atop a tiny withered piece of petrified fish product. Additionally we received a crab"melt" which was actually some heavily salted (and bell peppered) crab salad open face on one side of a toasted roll with unmelted cheese slapped onto the top of it like a sad polyester blanket in a seedy motel room. This peculiar take on a classic was set on top of some wilted field greens and served with a side of frozen fries. The fountain Coca-cola tasted like generic soda which is a big NO for me. The pinnacle of our meal was 8 dime sized oysters on the half shell which resembled what I can only imagine to be tiny clam testicles. The best part was the 15 hour bought of stomach cramping and diarrhea that followed roughly an hour after dining. Come for the sticky tables and food poisoning, stay for the suspicious looking mirror in the bathroom that may or may not be two way. The nicest thing I can say was that the service was fairly quick and the staff friendly enough so I added an extra star for that. All in all though, a huge disappointment. read more

We arrived for breakfast and the stench from the bathrooms was pretty bad, but we decided to take a chance on the place after all. I really wish we hadn't! The food arrived and was just sub par in every way. The bacon was old and cooked to death and re- heated . the eggs over easy were cooked hard and my omelette was cold, with some micro-waved warm spots and some partially melted cheese. The only thing that was good was the orange juice and the hot corn tortillas with cold tomatoes and avocado from the omelette. I rarely write bad reviews but I'm always fair and honest so here goes ....If I could zero stars I would but because our server was ok, I'll give one star. First the lady taking our order at the register...rude!!! No can I help you, hello, nothing just a vague unwelcoming stare, no please, thank you, nothing. Wow! The food.. DISGUSTING, mine was inedible, I left all the chicken from my Cobb salad....why?? Because it was rubbery, burnt and I wouldn't be surprised if it had been cooked days before and refrigerated then heated up...YUCK!!! Cost 20 bucks too.. My husband who will pretty much each anything didn't even eat his as the fries were soggy. What a total waste of $40 for a crappy salad and chicken burger and soggy fries! Also the coffee cup was disgusting, all cracked and chipped, the cup should be tossed in the garbage not served to hard working paying customers. I'll never return. read more

I have been a patron of Breakers for years, not for their mediocre food and wayward service, but because it's basically the only place to eat in Stinson. But this review is not about the food. It's about the customer service. I am 6.5 months pregnant with twins. As many people know, it's not an easy time in a woman's life, and one of the many issues is having to use the bathroom every 5 minutes. Well as I was driving up the coast, the need struck. Having been a customer of the Breakers many many times, I thought I could pop into their establishment and use the bathroom. Boy was I wrong!! I was told Very Rudely that bathrooms are for customers only.....a somewhat ridiculous policy to begin with, but ok, I guess I can understand that in certain places, mostly to avoid hoodlums from vandalizing your restrooms....but should that include very very desperate pregnant women?? The man attending at the counter Very Rudely told to me call his boss if I had a problem with the policy, but that he under no circumstances could make an exception to this rule. I left the Breaker in tears and in a massive amount of discomfort.....and most of all in anger, as I cannot believe that the rude and unsympathetic employees of this establishment could be so heartless to a woman in need. It goes without saying that I will Never go back, and warn women and children with emergency's to seek respite elsewhere, as we are clearly not covered under the ridiculous and stringent "Strict Bathroom Policy" . *Note: the one star is for past food experience....the burgers are only so-so and really expensive. read more

3.2 stars if that's possible? The good? The location. This place is right on the beach complete with outdoor seating that's dog friendly. Love love the location. The bad? The food is very average and expensive. Example? I got a breakfast burrito - it was edible but not great. It had the strong flavor of butter from cooking the eggs, bland salsa that I hardly touched...the price? $15 including tax/tip. $15 for an average burrito?? Most of the menu is priced similarly. It comes out to about $12 on the menu and when you add tax/tip you're at $15. Yikes. And nothing really tastes like it should be that much. Despite my griping, I still come here because my dog gets to join and it's nice to sit and relax with some hot food after a long hike or drive, but just prepare to spend some cash. Before our 4 hr hike from Stinson Beach up to Mt. Tamalpias, we decided to stop by to grab a cup of coffee. We needed an extra kick of caffeine to wake ourselves up since we headed up from SF early in the morning to beat the traffic. As we walked in, the board stated a small cup of coffee was $2.17. Since we were going for a long hike, we wanted to share a cup so we didn't have to worry about using the restroom. So we ordered ONE small cup of drip coffee togo. When the cashier rang us up for the cup of coffee, he charged us $3.47. We were BAFFLED. How did $2.17 come to $3.47? When we asked the cashier about it, he said tax and togo cup.....how does tax, which is what 9.5% and charge for a togo cup $0.25-0.50 end up doubling the amount? He then went on to say how the board reflected the old prices not the new prices. I'm sorry? Is it my fault you guys can't erase the chalk written $2.17 down and write the correct price? Horrible customer service as he couldn't give us a clean honest answer and jumbled to give us some BS reasons he pulled out of his a**. We gave up and just couldn't deal with the nonsense. The place was empty with no lines, a simple resolve could have just gave us $1 back. I mean it's just a dollar, which doesn't mean much to us, but what really pissed us off was his attitude towards the entire situation. We paid our $3.47 and he handed us an empty togo cup. We had to the counter to a dispenser to get our own coffee. To top off our experience, it was empty! As he brought out a new dispenser, he said to us, "If you want, I can give you another cup of coffee". Really? All you had to do was provide decent customer service and offer to give us back the difference but you rather offer another $3.47 cup of coffee? Doesn't that cost more than a dollar? Ridiculous. Definitely NEVER returning. Horrible customer service, steeply over priced, and coffee wasn't even good. Would give it zero stars if I could. read more

Bill, the owner has done a super job: ambiance (beach chic), very interesting, mouth watering combinations of fresh ingredients, as comfortable as home, love the leather chairs! We had a late breakfast here while in Stinson Beach for a wedding. The service was good and food came out quickly. I had the Uncle Ben's omelet (bacon, cheese, pick and salsa) with a side of fruit. The fruit was good size and freshness, omelet tasty and very satisfying. The sourdough bread was moist and flavorful. My wife had the Paleo breakfast and was also pleased. House coffee was just ok. Wonderful breakfast. Lots of variety. You stand in line to order at the counter and then they bring it to your table. Eat outside on patio or inside. joined some travel companions who decided against a more expensive restaurant for breakfast. i found the decor to be kitschy and beachy. The prices were fair (for a tourist town), the service was friendly. the menu was more than decent, with a dozen daily specials. It seemed like many items had the word "breakfast" attached and then became "breakfast specials." You know, that's efficiency in a restaurant: using a lot of the same ingredients. I got an omelet with shrimp, tomatoes, spinach and cheese, which was very good, served with wheat toast and potatoes. The portions were decent. I can't speak about the coffee but the water was clear and fresh. the food was fresh and healthy, I would come back again if I find myself stopping in Stinson again. read more

My husband and I were traveling up the coast and stopped at breakers for breakfast. Such a cute town and clean and fresh restaurant. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Nice place to relax and have an amazing breakfast. The portions are huge and you can get a variety of meals other than then boring traditional breakfast(they have that too if you want it, but they make it special!) the fruit bowl by far is the best I've seen- giant bowl of every fruit you can imagine, not you typical restaurant side cup with canned fruit in it. we stayed in stinson beach this weekend and after our first breakfast at breakers, knew we would be back for our second morning, as well. the coffee is fantanstic. never heard of the italian brand they use, but it is absoutely delicious. hubby and i both had the big ben's omelet - excellent. filled with bacon, goodies and pico de gallo. the next morning hubby had big ben's but with ham instead of bacon, and i had eggs benedict. hubby said his was excellent - not something i often hear, and mine was as good as it gets. while hubby got the potatoes (excellent, tasty, seasoned, scrumptious), i got the fruit salad, which was fresh, tasty, and so good - pears, apples, bananas, strawberries. the customer service, friendliness and atmosphere was awesome. we ate dinner across the street and also in bolinas - we would not eat at either of those places again... if we come back this way again, we would find a way to eat at breakers whenever we could! read more

The water here is great! When you walk in there are two full containers filled with ice water! Serve yourself. No judgement from the waiters if you just keep on filling up. Room for improvement? Great place to escape fromt he cold. I didn't try any of the food, so I can't leave a higher rating for now. There were quite a few flies which was a little off-putting but it didn't stop us from ordering hot cocoa which was pretty tasty. I love this spot. On sunny days, you can't beat it. The place is pretty spacious and fabulous for lunch. I had the chicken sandwich, which was mouthwatering in all the right ways. I also ordered an Irish coffee, which in my opinion is the best I've had here in the bay area. They serve lavazza Italian coffee. Husband loved it. Pancakes were not fluffy and delicious. Ambience was lively. Good place to fuel up before the matt davis hike. read more
