    M2 Kyay Oh Soup
    Sandra K.

My friend and I came at 7:00pm on a Tuesday night and we were the only diners, so thus, there was plenty of spots left in the parking lot. I was tempted to order a Malar since the looked delicious on the menu, but when I told the server I can't eat spicy foods, he let me know that it was spicy. We shared a seafood tom yum soup, a green tea salad, and a Kyay Oh soup. The food was delicious, fresh, and the serving size is plentiful. Neither my friend nor I were able to finish our food, so we packed the rest to go. This establishment is not the best decorated restaurant in Austin, but if you are looking for authentic Burmese food and to support a local business, this is the place to try.

Amazing amazing spot with such unique flavors! I called my order in and the man working gave me a swift and certain suggestion, and I really appreciated being able to call in my order instead of ordering online exclusively. The taste was soooo nice and although I got it to go, I will have to come back and enjoy it in their space!

A wonderful addition to Austin! Burmese food truck upgraded to a brick and mortar restaurant earlier this month. This is the only Burmese restaurant in Austin. These dishes are packed with flavor yet somehow remains a light but hearty meal. We enjoyed an assortment of their signature items and honestly every dish was so different depending on the sauces and spices they use, and delicious I recommend coming with a group to try a little of everything, definitely try their tea leaf salad, tofu salad which is homemade using chickpeas, and their amazing noodles dishes. I love that they honor recipes that have been passed down in the family and it really feels like a warm homecooked meal. The owners are super friendly too which we appreciated since I have only had Burmese food a few times before. There is plenty of parking in their lot.

This place is the only Burmese restaurant in Austin! We enjoyed the casual atmosphere and how authentic the restaurant felt with its home-style dishes. We tried the green tea salad, the Mohinga, and Shan noodle salad. Everything tasted very fresh! My favorite is the green tea salad, as it was really savory and a texture explosion with the crunch of the nuts and the various vegetables incorporated. My partner--who is Burmese--said all the flavors tasted authentic, and he was happy that this place exists in town!

Mom's Special Cooking achieves new digs in ALLI's Mexican Cuisine's old location on Payton Gin Road, with the grand opening of the foodtruck's restaurant location on August 9th. Two weeks prior, we had stopped by, seeing a lot full of cars in what we thought was the deserted ALLI Cuisine Mexican restaurant. We were informed it was a family gathering, and that the restaurant would open during the first week of August. The interior has been redone. The floor is a shiny blue gray flaky epoxy. There are new wooden table tops paired with cushioned red chairs. A dark green has been chosen as an accent color, covering the prior yellow and blue paint that was there prior. Left of the entrance, thousands of pink flowering lotuses dot the wall in picturesque lake / pond scene. Plenty of actual plants are present in the restaurant. Small umbrellas hang over the register area, which has been shortened from a long counter to a small island. A glass Mom's Special Cooking Plate hangs over one of the entrances (perhaps window) to the kitchen. The blue swinging wooden doors have been replaced by dark gray curtains. The bathrooms have also been touched up, though not completely redone. The new mirrors are nice, but things like the ceiling bathroom exhaust fan have not been cleaned; the paint job on the inside of the bathroom door is a bit sloppy. As for eating here: It seems you can simply pick a table tops sit down at, and they'll bring over some menus, and ask you what you'd like to drink. We opted for water (one iced and one not). Their menu has a diverse selection of items. It'll take a while to work through all the options. But this time, we went with the three dishes picture on the front, plus the faloodeh: Green Tea Salad--I've never had a green tea salad. I'm not sure how to describe it other than the combination of ingredients gives it a wonderfully savory cheesy aroma. Of course, it has chilis mixed in, tomatoes, fermented or pickled? green tea leaves, cabbage, sesame seeds, golden fried garlic, slightly shriveled edamame, fried beans, and perhaps some fish sauce. It comes with dried shrimp, roasted peanuts, and fried tiny fish. The combination is great in terms of flavors and textures--plenty of crunch mixed in with soft things, cool, but given the possibility of consuming a chili slice, spicy bites can be obtained. Shan Dry Noodles--opted for rice noodles with pork. Flavor-wise, the pork has what seems to be a tomato essence. Below is chili oil. On top are cilantro and scallions, golden fried garlic, and chicharrones. Mix mix mix, and you have something akin in flavor to tomato sauce and pork meatballs, though this has more components, including chili oil, to add to the flavor. I enjoyed the flavor, but my wife felt it was a tad salty. It comes with a wonderful bowl of broth on the side. Kyay OH Sichat--at first, we given the Kyay OH Soup, but they realized the error and replaced it with the dry version, which comes with a bowl of soup on the side. Opted for the pork version. It came with fish balls, but liver and intestines were missing. Hmm... This dish had softer noodles compared to the Shan Noodles, and this setup was less salty than the other bowl. The broth accompanying this bowl was the same as that which accompanies the Shan Noodles; it's a great broth. Faloodeh--this came sealed, with a happy smiley heart-eyed face. Rose syrup gave a red color to the milk, and the little jellies were fun to suck up. We were instructed to shake it before consuming in order to mix all the ingredients; they demonstrated a good shake. This family run restaurant has just opened; certainly stop by to give it a try. The parking lot has plenty of space, but it has some debris in it. I'll be back to try out some of their other items.

A great little spot with a variety of Asian dishes including some terrific Burmese ones. A little off the N Lamar buzz, easy parking and a very friendly but simple atmosphere. Mom sure knows her stuff!

Easy to miss it when driving by. It's in the parking lot of a State Farm office. Really nice lady that runs it. Order ahead to save time. Next time I'll try the tea leaf salad.

Cute food truck with tasty flavors. Definitely unpretentious but flavorful. I ordered some chicken which was reminiscent of home cooking.

Checked this place out for a quick work lunch and it went pretty well. First of all the lady working the truck was an absolute delight, so positive and ready to help me out. I got the non spicy sesame chicken and for a food truck it was pretty good! The food was a little on the salty side for my taste but still good. I would definitely check this place out again, and go for the spicy.

Their food here is so delicious!! I love their malar the most! It comes with so much fillings do vegetables and meat! I really enjoyed the deep flavor and hint of spice. I also tried their chicken 65 and I asked to make it extra spicy. It's was good too. For both options, it was under $30 so that's a great price especially in austin. They also have two tables under a tent on the side to sit too.

Lo mein, malar, and tea leaf salad

Got tea leaf salad, malar, and lo mein. All tasted authentic. Price is very reasonable and the lady that served us is friendly.

This charming Pan-Asian café is warm, welcoming and with quite a lot of personality. The menu captures unique tastes such ascreamy udon, crispy chicken karaage, pho dip banh mi, croffles, bingsu, and Vietnamese coffee. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid-back. Neon signs, cute décor, and a laid-back vibe with cats as its focal point bring this restaurant to life. The store manager and staff were super friendly and welcomed any questions regarding the menu. The vibe was familial. Also, the music playing in the background was quietly intoxicating. My friend ordered the Banh Xeo Tacos, which she enjoyed very much. The bonus was they were gluten-free. I was not very hungry at the time, but I can always find room for dessert...so, Mango Bingsu was my dessert de jour! We ordered two of the top dishes often mentioned in previous reviews, the creamy udon and tom kha pho. The creamy udon ($16.99) is pretty heavy. After a few bites it almost tastes too rich to eat. I think adding some pickled Japanese inspired veggies would help offset the creaminess. The tom kha pho ($16.99) tastes exactly how it sounds, savory with a hint of creamy coconut and citrus notes. But the chicken itself was pretty bland. I like the two dishes (pho and tom kha) separately but not sure if I like them together. Also ordered the crème brûlée latte (9/10) and the earl grey matcha latte (5/10). I wish the earl grey had a stronger presence. Overall I think it's a place you should try at least once if you want to try Asian dishes with a fusion twist.

The uber eats driver sat there for at least 15-20 minutes until finally they informed him that the spicy yellowtail I wanted just "wasn't ready"- no idea why, and so I had to substitute a spicy salmon roll. It took almost an hour and 45 minutes from time of order placed to get the food 15 minutes away. The restaurant did nothing to compensate for the extremely long prep time or item change. It didn't really matter what the rolls were, because they dont have enough fish in them to taste like anything. All three rolls tasted exactly the same (I had a salmon avo, tuna avo, and a spicy salmon). The fish in the rolls was about the size of a an index finger fingernail, if that. You get larger, fresher fish pieces in HEB sushi. Plus, multiple pieces of avocado were severely under ripe and hard. They tried to compensate for almost no roll filling by having a crap ton of rice on the outside- the problem is whoever rolls these rolls doesn't know what they're doing. So all that heavy rice did was make every piece i picked up fall apart. The spicy salmon was not spicy. The bento box was...fine. In the uber eats description it says it comes with 5 pieces of veggie tempura. We did not get that. The edamame was fine, wish it was salted, and the rolls were tasteless. THe salad was SWIMMING in dressing and unedible. The gyoza and spring roll were miniature. I perused some reviews and it seems like ramen in their strong point and I saw similar feedback on the sushi- so if you order from here I'd stick with soup. Emerald green kale noodles set it apart from other contenders, lending a subtle earthiness reminiscent of green tea soba, but with more of a toothsome bite. Hunger definitely gets humbled here. We came around lunchtime and caught what felt like the perfect balance of energy. Busy enough to get a feel for the restaurant without being overwhelmed, but by a little after 12, the crowd started pouring in, and the line nearly stretched out the door. That alone says a lot about how loved this place is on an ordinary day. I also appreciated the atmosphere -- it looked like parts of the space had been renovated (especially the tables), the warm wood tones made everything feel cozy and homey, and I loved the cultural wall and self-service stand. One thing I really enjoyed was seeing such a diverse crowd dining here; people from nearly every background packed the space, which felt like proof that genuinely good food knows no ethnic bounds. We started with the Crab & Pork Soup Dumplings, and wow -- these came out hot. Like, proceed-with-caution hot. But the flavor payoff was worth it. The broth inside was amazingly potent and flavorful enough that I genuinely didn't feel the need to dip them in sauce. The filling had this pleasantly crumbly texture in the best possible way, and the pork and crab felt incredibly well blended. An excellent starter choice. The Flavored Black Fungus w. Onions ended up being one of the most refreshing dishes on the table. Flavor-wise, it reminded me of Vietnamese gỏi -- bright, acidic, and refreshing. The red onions had been tempered through pickling, so they brought flavor without overwhelming sharpness, and the vinegar-and-oil dressing tied everything together beautifully. It's a smaller plate, but comfortably shareable between 2-3 people. The Hot Spicy Stew (Malatang) was honestly one of the most sensory dishes I've had in a while. The spice smacks the back of your throat the second you inhale it -- though "spicy" almost feels like the wrong word because it leans more tongue-numbing than heat-heavy. The Sichuan peppercorn usage here is fantastic. Super aromatic, deeply flavorful, and somehow every time my BF lifted the noodles, another wave of spices would hit the air and smack me in the face (in the best way possible). Between the bold colors, aroma, and flavor, this dish felt impactful from every angle. As someone who loves lamb, the Lamb Stewed Noodle Soup was probably my personal winner. It reminded me of a cleaner version of miso soup (which already tastes clean), but with an added lamb richness that made it so satisfying. The broth had this flavorful fattiness from the lamb that made me immediately think, "Yeah... I'm going to need 20k steps after this." Zero regrets. I would order this again in a heartbeat every single visit. The Suan Tsai Spicy Beef Rice Noodle was the accidental order, and unfortunately, my least favorite. My friend actually wanted the spicier beef noodle option above it and ended up nuking this bowl with chili oil, which he swore improved it a lot. For me, the sourness leaned unpleasant rather than balanced, and compared to the Malatang and Lamb Noodle Soup, the broth lacked the same richness and depth. Overall, Julie's Noodles absolutely delivers on comfort, flavor, portions, and value. Come hungry -- and maybe with friends, because these bowls do not play around.
