I first discover Sip Saam Thai via Uber Eats, but decided to dine in a few weeks later. The portion sizes are great and each dish can be adjusted to any spicy level. The staff was friendly and checked in on us a few times during my visit. I found the Tom Kha to be a bit too tangy for my taste; however, the shrimp fried rice was great! They'll definitely be on my list of places when I'm in the mood for Thai food!

Came here for a late dinner specifically for the papaya salad. My son said he judges all Thai places on if the papaya salad is good. If they offer it they are legit, if not then look for a different place. This place had it and it delivered on taste, ambiance, and service. We split the papaya salad and Tom Yum with chicken. Both items came out quickly and were presented nicely. The Thai Tea was crisp and refreshing. Would highly recommend Sip Saam Thai to anyone looking for a quality meal in a quaint restaurant.

We discovered Sip Saam Thai while scrolling through Yelp and decided to make the trek since quality Thai options are rare in our immediate area. It was well worth the drive! Parking & Service: Arrival was stress-free thanks to the massive parking lot in the strip mall. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great recommendations. The Spice Factor: Interestingly, they offer two spice tiers: 1-10 and 10-15. We usually prefer a heavy heat, but found that levels 8 and 9 were still relatively mild. If you're a true spice lover, you might want to venture into the double digits! The Food: Portions are very generous and perfect for family-style dining. Everything was flavorful, though my one small note for the kitchen is that some dishes leaned a bit heavy on the salt. Overall, a great spot with big flavors.

Order to go food via Uber Eats for dinner one night Absolutely delicious - loved everything! We tried the pad Thai with tofu - fried rice with chicken - moo ping - mango sticky rice! All were amazing! Moo ping skewers were great starters - comes with 6/7! Every pad Thai is different and I am very picky but this one was great! Thai fried rice was free with order and comes with tomato and Chinese broccoli - great fried rice. The mango sticky rice is a large portion and a classic! Everything was packed very well and great portion sizes

Inside is nice, seating for small groups or large groups. Full bar. The service is excellent. My only complaint is they don't have mixed drinks. They had shots, draft, bottles, and margaritas. I wanted an old fashioned. They don't do that. The food is phenomenal. I enjoyed it enough to come back a half a dozen times while staying in the area for work. We went with a group of friends once and they all got something different. They all enjoyed their meals. I tend to lean towards the pineapple curry, papaya salad and eggrolls. Everything tasted authentic. Do be careful when ordering spicy this location does not hold back. Their Thai spicy is no joke. I enjoyed spicy Thai food but not like this. Order medium your first time, and then see what your tolerance is.

We absolutely love this place hands down one of the best Thai food places in Austin. We went with our friends and ordered few different meals to be able to review properly, Appetizers: Fried calamari - the aioli that comes with it is amazing. The calamari was a bit on the chewer side. Shrimp Spring Rolls - this was fresh and flavorful Garlic edamame - just the right amount of garlic in the right amount of seasoning. Truly the best. Main dishes: Yellow seafood curry- it was creamy, flavorful and just the right amount of mix of seafoods. Red vegetable curry - this was on the spiced side maybe i should have mentioned to have low spicy one but still really creamy and flavorful and loaded with veggies, Lamb curry - this was the star of the show, creamy, coconut flavor the only thing that i would say is the lamb was a tinny bit on the chewer side but other than that AMAZING. Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. Cooked to perfection noodles, it did lack a bit on the protein that was in there but other than that flavor was on point. Dessert: Coconut ice cream - oh my god i want a whole pint of this. It was sooo good, the flavor, the crushed peanut on top. Sticky sweet rice with Mango - I'm not fan of sticky rice but it was not bad. The mangos were amazing on the side though. We love the service, they are always very attentive and has a very chill and relax vibe. Overall from all their 3 locations this is by far my favorite and one i love visiting.

    Boat noodle

Come all the way from San Antonio for the boat noodle! It tastes very good, it comes with big portion which I'm very happy with. The servers are so friendly and nice. I'm very satisfied.

The pineapple red curry was delicious. Chicken satay was served slightly undercooked though :/ The portions are decent sized but the restaurant seems overpriced for the quality and vibe.

Very consistent and has become a staple in my rotation. The food is full of complex flavors and goes well with rice. Be sure to ask for the fish sauce with cut chili. Their Thai tea is one of the better that I've had in Austin as well. Service is friendly, and the place feels clean. Definitely come check this place out.

I tried Sip Saam Thai for the first time and got some panang curry to go. It was very good! Lots of flavor in the curry and the chicken was cooked very w I think I asked for a level 5 or 6 spice and it was not super spicy at all! Service was great as far as ordering online and how fast they were. They also wrapped up the curry in an extra bag to avoid any messes with spilling which I really appreciate. Overall, definitely recommend!

Your spice tolerance may vary. When asked if the scale of 1 - 10 was "Thai spicy" or "white person spicy," I was told it was Thai spicy and tempered my request accordingly and went with a mere 2. Next time, I would easily ramp that up to 5 or 6, but fortunately, the food is flavorful, fresh, and well-seasoned all the same. Best of all, they don't just understand requests for vegan dishes; they have a whole separate vegan menu! You've gotta ask for it is all. There, you'll find the predictable tofu and veggie options as well as more exciting mock duck and chicken (seitan/wheat-based.) My favorite was the meatless duck, which is super tender and savory. I don't usually go for pad Thai, but theirs is not bad! Chewy noodles, moderately sweet sauce, and your protein of choice. I adored the eggplant tofu, which has meltingly tender vegetables in a garlicky basil-flecked brown sauce. There's so much to try- I'll definitely be back!

Met some longtime friends here when one was in town visiting a couple weeks ago. The food was yummy, but it wasn't as spicy (chili hot) as we thought. I try to be careful when ordering spicy food at Thai restaurants but I and my daughter can handle and like a lot of heat, so both of us were expecting the food to be spicier for the levels we picked. Other than that, the service was great. We were seated in a back booth/table area and despite there not being that many people there it was not easy to hear each other and I'm not sure why. I can't recall if maybe they were playing music or there was something else going on. The portions were generous so we were able to take some home, which I always like!

We ordered takeout from Sip Saam Thai in Austin, and the food completely exceeded our expectations. It's not always easy to find Thai dishes that travel well, but everything we picked up held its flavor, texture, and freshness beautifully. We tried the eggplant, pad see ew, drunken noodles, and crab fried rice, and each dish had its own charm. Even as a takeout experience, everything felt restaurant-quality. The packaging kept the dishes warm without getting soggy, and the portion sizes were filling without being overly heavy. Pickup was quick, organized, and the staff seemed genuinely friendly.

    Is this place pet friendly?

    No.

Does anyone happen to know if the curries are made with coconut milk/okay for a vegan?

They are made with coconut milk but might have fish sauce so just ask and they might be able to do it without.

Are they closed for renovations as of 10/25 as someone posted? But I see current reviews?

Hi! We closed on 10/25 but have re-opened for our regular hours. Hope to see you!

After landing in San Antonio yesterday to kick off my summer vacation, the very first thing I did…read moretoday was ask my friend to bring me back to this restaurant. The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany.

Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely…read more After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If anyone can do it, 1618 can.
