I visited this spot with a few friends and we tried a medium difficulty escape room, the island escape themed one. The process to book the experience was fast and easy, everything was done online. Once we arrived, we found good parking right away although it seems like it could get pretty crowded very quickly. The reception are was well decorated with all of the rooms and activities they had and what they consisted of so I was intrigued reading while waiting. Almost immediately the host took us across the street to where the rooms are and she was very helpful and informative! Although I cannot remember her name unfortunately, she helped us a lot through the escape. Unfortunately we did not beat the game, but we now have an idea of what to choose from, which level works best for us, the number of rooms and how big they are, etc. In the end we got stickers and our picture taken... it was a pretty fun night. The price was a bit high in my opinion given that there was only one room for 1 hr (we paid a little over $33 per person) but then again I haven't been to an escape room in years so I am not entirely sure what the current average prices are. My friend looked up an escape room near Versailles and this was the closest option. She had quite the time trying to set up a reservation. She was told on the phone that reservations needed to be made up to 2 hours in advance but that she had to do it on the website as they do not take reservations over the phone. When my friend tried to reserve it online, she was running into issues because the room she had just discussed on the phone now said it was fully booked. My friend called the business back and could not get anyone to answer. She finally did get a call back close to an hour later and they said they could reserve it for her over the phone despite just telling her previously that this could not be done. You can fill out your waiver online before your arrival to save some time when you get there. We arrived for our scheduled time and it took a while before anybody greeted us. Someone finally checked us in then we were walked across the street to another building where they have more rooms. We did the Kentucky Derby themed room! It is technically more than one room which made it pretty challenging. There were also 4 initial puzzles in the main room and not a straightforward order for solving them. We felt like the moderator was not very good about giving us helpful hints when we asked even though they advertise that you can get unlimited hints. The room itself was super hot, all of us took our jackets off throughout the hour. You are allowed to bring your purse into the room which I was happy about. The final few minutes of the room had a very loud countdown music playing over the speakers. This is the time that you are rushing to finish the puzzle, and we could barely hear the moderator over this blaring music to figure out our next hint. Overall, we still had a lot of fun but there were a few frustrating moments that easily could be fixed to ensure a better experience next time. read more

Our family (my parents, my husband and my 9 year old daughter) did the Clue room today at Breakout Games - Lexington. This is a great room for families; we all had a great time! Fun to see the Clue game characters and rooms come to life! And Alaina was a fantastic host. There was some neat technology incorporated in the Clue game that we hadn't seen in other escape rooms. And the puzzles were just complicated enough to keep us interested, but still make us feel like we could solve it in time. We solved the murder with just a few minutes to spare. read more

Last week, with the help of seven other cunning thieves, I stole a two-million dollar check, a Kentucky Derby trophy, and a rose blanket. I got away with it. No one got caught or went to jail. WIN. ....... Breakout Games was AWESOME. The premise: you and a team of up to eight people are placed into a room where you have sixty minutes to solve the puzzles, get the code, and break out of the room. At Breakout Lexington, your room options are Island Escape, Casino Royale, Derby Heist, and Kidnapping. The idea of Kidnapping (being blindfolded and handcuffed.... and I'm deaf) kind of freaked me out so I was quite relieved and intriuged when my group was placed in the Derby Heist room. After an introduction and rules from our gamemaster (I believe his name was Zack?), we were locked in our room and had an hour to solve the room and break out. Throughout our time in the room, we found clues, figured out lock codes, turned off the lights, snooped around, found keys, played with bourbon bottles, solved puzzles, and so forth until we found the items and were able to break out of the room. The gamemaster watched through a camera and offered up to three clues when asked (you can just talk to the walls, basically, they hear you.....). If you needed to leave for an emergency, there IS an exit button -- no worries, you're not REALLY locked in. None us needed to leave, though. We wanted to stay and win! I was glad to get my brain working towards a fun solution. What a great team-building activity! In our group, we all alternated between working on separate puzzles and coming together to work on the same one. I can't speak for everyone, but I felt some kind of strange bond to the other people in my group. I mean, we all did this TOGETHER... and we were kind of strangers, some of us. Also, *HIGH-FIVE* to the Derby Heist team for breaking out in less than forty-five minutes! If you are unable to solve the room, they'll walk through it with you and show all the solutions, which I appreciate. Breakout Games DOES sound kind of pricey at $22-$24 per person, and the hour goes kind of fast, but it's a great experience to have once or twice if you can. Breakout has updated their format since the last time we visited. Now the price isn't a solid set price anymore. It is now on a sliding scale depending on how many are in your group and the room isn't open to other people outside of your group. My wife and I love escape rooms but many times we go it is just the two of us. We always enjoyed having the chance to meet new people and enjoy having the extra eyes and ears to help solve puzzles. I never leave bad reviews but this was bad. Wild West is The worst game and we waited and waited and our first game we wanted Clue was broken. The staff was nice but it was awkward. We were in the lobby 40 min by ourselves and our game time started 25 min late. It was just real random. The Wild West game is so bad. Like puzzles that do not go well together and just plain boring. I was the person who did not want to pay for something like breakout games on the weekend- it didn't sound fun and puzzles are not my thing. Well I was wrong. Breakout games were worth going too. I went with a group of 6 and every person had something to contribute to the puzzle-even me ;) I was able to get a group-on or on Monday -Thursday they offer 2 dollars off which if you are not sure you will like it you should try the games with these discounts. This was our first Breakout adventure, and we participated and beat the Derby Heist in about 50 minutes! Obviously, I don't want to spoil any of the fun so I'll refrain from giving my useful descriptive review and just say this the Breakout games are quite fun and challenging! We were stumped several times throughout, and it was really fun to stop and figure things out. However, I have a recommendation for future patrons. Do everything you can to fill up the room with people you know! Ask Breakout Games how many people are meant for that particular room, since it varies between 6-10. We went as a party of 6 for a friend's birthday, but the room was for 8 people. So Breakout Games stuck two extra people in with us, which was slightly awkward for us and them. The other couple with us was very pushy and took control of the room/game. This made the experience less than enjoyable for some in our party. Additionally, they stuff too many people into one room. Honestly, these rooms are best suited for 5-6 people at most. With 8 people, there were times were 2-4 people were just standing around. Another reason why I think it's best to go with people you know. Breakout Games could easily fix this by allowing large groups a "private" room. Overall, I think it's a fun experience and I would do it again! read more

I went to the breakout games about two months ago. I went with some moms in a local moms group so we had a great group of people. We did the mystery mansion. It was a blast! I had so much fun!!! I had heard other experiences of people having a hard time solving other games due to employees lack of willingness to help. The guy we had guiding us through was awesome!!! One of the rules is, you all have to agree to get a clue. However, if he noticed that we were on the right track but kind of spinning our wheels, he would chime in. It really took some of the pressure and frustration out of it. I want to go back and try a couple more! This is a must try! read more

During a short visit to the Lexington area, I was looking for something different to do with my wife. Based on other reviews on Trip Advisor & Yelp I scheduled a visit to Breakout Games. in keeping with a horse themed vacation we did the Derby Hiest. It was a lot if fun & challenging. It was just my wife and I trying to "breakout" which put us at a slight disadvantage and as a result we did not "breakout". We were told that we made it further that any 2 person group before and further than several groups with more people. We had so much fun we went back the following night and was able to get in at the last minute with a husband & wife with their two kids (8 & 10 year old). I had a blast at the breakout games with my friends! I love to throw murder mystery parties so this type of thing is right up my alley. The game master leads you into a room decorated according to the theme of the game you are playing and you solve a clue or puzzle to get to the next one until you finally break out. The game master watches you on a video camera and will give you three hints throughout the game. You just call out loud to ask for his help. We did the casino room and our game master said that he thinks that it is the most difficult room. I can't wait to try the others. This is a great group activity. read more

I've done several escape rooms around the country, and Breakout Lexington has been one of my favorites thus far! My friend and I did "the Kidnapping" room. For this room, you are blindfolded and handcuffed before beginning and you have to get yourself out. Obviously I can't go into much detail about the actual room since that would be giving it away, but the clues were well thought out and the room was exciting to go through. Our game master gave great hints and was attentive throughout it. Note to players: follow all the rules and labels provided in the room. I repeat, *follow all the labels in the room.* Don't move things or rearrange things that say not to. That can make the game harder or can even make it impossible to win. One of the party members we were paired with kept touching things that shouldn't have been moved and made it so hard to get through the game/we started having to make a lot of assumptions. (But obviously that wasn't Breakout Lexington's fault.) Overall, great fun! Well worth the evening and the money spent. Would definitely come again if I'm in the area! read more

We went back in March with a couple of friends. I thought it was great experience but kinda expensive close to $25 a person. We played Hostage. We were handcuffed in the room and had to find clues as to how to get out. I learned I would not be the person most would want to be kidnapped with since my observation skills are severely lacking LOL! None the less it was perfect for our double date night. The staff was friendly enough but mostly ignored us with no little lobby puzzles to whittle away the time we were told to arrive early to just sit in the lobby. Finally led back to our room (mystery mansion which I believe is one of the oldest rooms there) where our game master Shane forgot most of the intro except "don't break things and don't climb in the ceiling" or to even lock the door we're supposed to be working on. Immediately the first clue was not reset so it was just sitting out, the second clue was completely wrong because the electric candle was burnt out (gee thanks for that extra 5 minutes back tho), the silver spinning tops were also broken, and the codes on the "treasure" have never been redone so you can't even really tell what those are. All in all it was pretty damn disappointing tbh. read more

Really enjoyed it! We've done 2 rooms: the Kidnapping & Derby Heist. I was lost for most of the Heist but I did great on the Kidnapping. Whereas some of the others who struggled with the Kidnapping did really well with the Derby Heist. Either way I had a lot of fun working out the different puzzles. If you get too stuck you can always ask for help and they'll provide you with additional hints so it keeps it fun. read more

This was a blast! We had eight of us and did the island escape. After we went over instructions and watched the short video we were left to this room of several things but didn't know what to do with them. We literally wasted the first ten minutes trying to figure out what we were supposed to do. It seemed like we were going to fail, but then we got one clue and then another and then it seemed that they worked together to get the next one. my husband and I were really into it and I think our enthusiasm was contagious and a couple others got into it and then we were all trying to figure it out. What a riot! It was a great way to spend an hour and we can't wait to come back and do it again now that we have a little experience under our belts!
