Yesterday a couple friends and I went wine tasting in Paso area. We are longtime fans of paso wines, taste often, and I myself went to Fresno State to study Enology and Vuticulture. Let me tell you, Brecon is a MUST for anyone wishing to experience the beautiful wines paso region is capable of creating, in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The tasting room: Understated elegance. Modern industrial meets casual comfort. Beautiful dark colors on the walls are contrasted with bright, abstract art hanging, and a sleek metallic looking tasting counter. Huge windows let in plenty of natural light, and give a wonderful picturesque view of the trees and hills beyond. Two wonderful dogs roam the property (Millie and Roy) and make it a lot of fun for us animal lovers :) There are plenty of places to lounge, comfortable seating, and tables. Plan to stay a while! The service: Absolutely impeccable. Jorge managed to individualize his attentions to patrons, even when the tasting room got busy. Plenty of wine knowledge here! A very sweet young, blonde woman (did not catch her name, sadly) was more than happy to chat about their wine making process and really elevated the whole experience. The wine: One thing I LOVE (as a wine nerd) is that Brecon gives a breakdown on paper of the specs of their wines (pH/TA etc). It really gives people a window into the wines and wine making process that isn't typically available at Paso tastings. Brecon is above and beyond. All their wines are delicious and a wonderful experience awaits in every bottle, but the depth of flavor in their Estate cab right now will blow your mind. It is an absolute must buy! What a beautiful place that is modern and up to date. You can either taste inside or outside as the bar can accommodate both. We sat with rocking chairs and was cater to by the servers. Met the owner which they are from Australia and love the accent. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the wine. The first white wine which was an Albranio and was aged in combination of French oak and a different one that I never heard of which gave it a great flavor. Something unique and never tried. I just love it when wineries bring something new to us Californian's! The Grenache Blanc was so good. It's the perfect combination of crisp and a hint of fruit. My favorite red was the Grenache blend that had some great fruit forward in it. The only reason why I'm giving this place 4 stars and not 5 is it's a little to pricey. $15 tasting fee or by 2 bottles of wine to get the tasting fee waive. I don't want Paso to turn into a commercialized Napa! Average tasting fee in Paso is $10 or less. When I have to start paying Napa prices that's what will get me upset. Years ago, on our first visit to Paso Robles, my husband and I stumbled upon your newly constructed tasting room. It had just been completed - things were still being put in and finished. We had a great experience tasting wines and chatting with Amanda. Since then, Brecon has always been on our list when we are in Paso due to our initial experience and our love for the wines. Each time we've gone since that first visit, we have been more and more disappointed. The wines are still good, but the service has suffered. Each time we've gone, we've been mostly ignored. Yesterday we were so disappointed in the service we received that we thought it would be time to email. In the middle of our tasting, the woman helping us left, it turned out to get boxes for the people next to us who were purchasing wine. We had to get the rest of our tastings from other people who were walking by. At the end, we were asking if we wanted to revisit any wines and then that woman walked away from us. We ended up having to flag someone down to finish our tasting. If not for the horrible service, we would have purchased a few bottles of wine. As it stands, we won't be back to Brecon anytime soon. It's disappointing to us, since we've watched Brecon grow for years, but something needs to change with the service in the tasting room. After emailing over the weekend, we were given nothing but excuses - it's was a busy weekend, etc (every winery we went to - including Brecon - said it was slow). Definitely will not be coming back. Good wine, not worth the cost and poor service. read more

I hear their white wines are wonderful. They had none available for tasting during our visit only reds. OK, fine, most in our group love a nice red. Three members from Turley and four members from Opolo. Memberships at dozens of excellence wineries. This group knows good quality wine from marketing and poor quality. Each year, our group visits a number of wonderful wine growing regions in California (Napa, Sonoma, Paso, Livermore, Lodi, San Benito, etc). We try to visit a few new places in each area with each visit. Brecon is a new spot, the tasting room has been open just a few years. Parking and tasting room location is a poor design. Park and walk up the hill to the tasting room. Tasting room is nicely designed. The females in our group loved the bathroom sink. The artwork was nice. At the end of the day, what really counts is the quality of the wine at what price. Out of six reds in our tasting - three were to young to be pouring, the group put most of this wine in the bucket. The next two reds were nothing special, available for half the price 5 mins away. One of six reds hit the mark but was almost 2X over priced. Given this, no one in our group purchased wine or became a new member. People were upset just paying the tasting fees for such low quality. And, this from a group that purchased seven maybe eight cases of wine during our yearly visit to the Paso area. The Brecon Sales Staff is selling what they have. Using "We only bottle 3000 bottles". "We are special, our whites are sold out" to promote low quality reds. Clearly, using scripted, canned sales statements. Not experienced, lacking knowledge. Tasting fees are out of line for the products being offered. They should have closed there tasting room doors for the year when the quality wines were sold .Vs impacting a newly forming brand by having the sales staff promote a weak list of reds. Word does get around faster these days. This won't go unnoticed or without impact. Call first. If they don't have white wines available, recommend a pass. Paso has so much better to offer in quality red wines. You have been warned. Still kicking ourselves for not just leaving. read more

Brecon is a beautiful winery with a great variety in wines. Maggie helped my group and she was so helpful and attentive throughout our tasting. She was very knowledgeable and helped us figure out the perfect bottle to take home (we are in love with the Albariño). Brecon Estate is a hidden gem among all of the wineries in Paso Robles. It doesn't look like much from the front, but the tasting room and outdoor patio are amazing. This winery is super dog friendly. The even have some of their own dogs that roam around and are super friendly. We love Milly. She's a gentle giant. We thoroughly enjoyed our wine tasting experience here. My favorite wine was the Cab Franc. We loved the complimentary nuts and chocolate covered raisins as well. The only negative about this winery was the annoying gnats that kept flying into our wine glasses, but I can't really fault the winery for that. So maybe it was the wrong weekend to go because it was Zinfandel weekend. We had just left 2 other wineries where we received the best hospitality and attention. Then we got a recommendation to go to Brecon. We got poor service by 2 different people who seemed distracted and not engaged in their service. Then the big one was that we paid a tasting fee and if we bought wine would not be waived. So we only bought one bottle, we usually average about 4, but lack of service and not a warm feeling swayed us from our purchase. I might say that we bought a pavlova dessert we bought there was so delicious that was the highlight of this winery for us. read more

We came to Paso with a serious plan to visit a number of places that have been on our 'need to visit' list for way too long but when we where advised by another winery that we simply had to give Brecon a try while we were in town due to their fantastic wine, great customer service and beautiful grounds we decided to take a quick detour on our plan and head that way. Everything we were told was true and if I could manage one more wine club I would be joining this one in a heartbeat. The wine was amazing and we ended up walking out with four bottles for our cellar. We'll be back when we have a little more time on our hands to sip some wine and enjoy the picnic area. read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. My husband and I stopped by Brecon after a few locals recommended it to us. The venue is carved right out of a hillside full of grapevines. The tasting room was Immaculent! Really cool design and great space. We sat outside at the picnic tables to catch the breeze and it was lovely. If you're looking for a place that feels like home this is the stop for you. Amanda, the owner of the vineyard, poured all our tasting telling us the personal stories of how the wine was made, why it was named what it was and also just fun stories about her family and their vineyard. For $15 a tasting it felt like $100 experience by getting to spend time with Amanda. On top of that every wine was delicious! Please make sure you stop here! They also sell cheese plates and gelato, we will be coming back for sure! read more

Happy to have stumbled upon this winery at Christmas of 2014. We were in the area visiting family and did a day of wine tasting. We loved it! So we came back this summer! We live in Hawaii so it's a total treat to have places like this that make good wine, care for their property and make a personal experience for each customer that comes to visit. The dogs help too ;-) Each person that has helped us behind the counter has been very nice and we found out they ship to Hawaii! We bought a few bottles so it should hold us over til Christmas when we come back but just in case it's good to know. The outdoor area is a great place to hang out in the sunshine and enjoy a glass of wine. Also, they have corn hole farther in the back so we stayed for a while and enjoyed the great weather. The dogs loved playing cornhole too! We will be back and recommend this place for anyone wanting a small, personal, relaxing winery experience in the beautiful rolling hills of Paso. AWESOME WINES!! This was not on our list when we showed up in Paso, but when our tasting hosts at the first two wineries both recommended them, we said, "gotta go"! Tasting host Rosie was just a delight. The only thing you could really ding them for was not having a lot of wines to taste, and in fact had recently run out of the Syrah...but Rosie did open up Mourvedre for us. All of their wines were superb. The Viognier was a winner... BUT THEN WE GOT TO THE REDS... cab franc, cab sauv, & the meritage were all STUNNING. This may be the first Cab Franc that I've said that of as I'm generally somewhat luke warm to their tasting profile. We didn't get to taste the PV, but bought some anyway (futures) because of the amazing wines Damian is putting out. While our trip isn't over, I suspect this will be the standout find especially when it comes to Bordeaux based reds. read more

And Damian (the winemaker) has a remarkable talent of bringing forward the absolute best in the wine he crafts and his skill is evident in everything he creates. Our 1st time visiting here and it shall be our last!!! It was horrible we felt not welcomed. We were there with a wine tour and as we arrived they were hosting a rotary club lunch so we became chop liver! Their pours were tiny and most of the time the girls wouldn't even tell us what they were pouring? They seemed very snotty and we had to ask them for our three out of the four pours.We go out to paso wine tasting once or twice a year and we will never do that wine tour nor visit this estate again! We had tasted at Opolo and were on our way to Justin and came upon Brecon and remembered that our server at J Lohr the previous day had recommended Brecon. They have a lovely deck area and we really enjoyed our tasting out there. The Tasting fee is $10 waived with 2 bottle purchase but wines are very expensive so we just bought one: Mourvèdre for $49 which is on the high end for us. We live in the Santa Cruz area and can be in Paso Robles in 2 hours. We've been going to Napa and Sonoma for over 40 years and are now enjoying exploring the over 300 wineries in Paso Robles. We stay at the Paso Robles Inn right in the center of town. On this trip we also visited Tobin James, J Lohr, Opolo, and Justin. read more
