    The famous steak and cheese

Everyone in a local restaurant group raves and comments about Breen's Cheesesteak all the time, so we figured it was about time we checked out what everyone is talking about... We stopped in for lunch and it is a typical old divey bar (nothing the matter with that), like a place your grandfather went to. They're wasn't much parking around because there was already a decent sized crowd there for lunch. We took seats at the bar (plenty of other seating available) and we ordered drinks and lunch, my husband got the clam chowder and a Rueben and I ordered the cheesesteak from onions and mushrooms. We decided to share our sandwich orders. The clam chowder was very good, it was thick with ingredients (not flour). My husband's Rueben was delicious and I'd definitely come back for that. The cheesesteak was meh, it was plenty full of meat but neither of us cared for the American cheese melted in with the meat.

We have heard so much about Breens that during the recent holiday break we decided to go and try it. Very glad that we did. We shared a large steak and cheese with mushrooms and onion. The lunch time trade was brisk and when we return I would try either the Reuben or Rachel.

EVERYTHING you'd want from a local joint for a great burger and a cold beer. A local crowd of regulars fill the place, which is cash only and no table service. Burger was hand patty and cooked to perfection. Old school and very affordable. Off street parking also!

Great times at Breens Cafe with Kaleigh, Meaghan, & Jim! My friends & I loved the rusty burger, hot dog, & pastrami sandwiches, & the bloody mary with Grego's candied bacon was the perfect complement! We were also surprised with some tasty treats from Wooden Bakery.

The best. This is the zenith of what a steak and cheese should be. 100% local "dive bar"; everybody was very nice and congenial. Bar, high top, or booth, your choice. I was able to speak with the co-owners husband and he told me about the history of the bar, the history of the food and where all the ingredients (all local) come from. EAT HERE! Wicked god.

$15 for an amazing cheesesteak and a beer! Such an amazing cheesesteak. I got everything included, fried onions, mushrooms, American cheese and hots. I think those are peppers. Great stuff !!! Service top notch. Ambiance chill.

Breen's is a true hidden gem. Old school Irish pub with that classic townie crew. Bar service was efficient but not intrusive. Had a drink every time I needed one without having to ask. Tried the steak and cheese sub for lunch. It was amazing! Perfect cheese to steak ratio. Nice soft roll. Served with pickles and chips for $12! Good beer selection and a full bar.

It's been said plenty of times, Breens is a local hidden gem! Simple but well done in an old bar with tons of character. This place gets hopping so get there early if you can! Delicious food and Megan behind the bar knows how to handle a packed restaurant!

Nice bar cold beer chef/owner doesn't take care of food. Handled uncooked meats then makes sandwiches without so much as a hand wipe.

Pros: Cozy, British pub style atmosphere; interesting small plates, not too expensive…read more Cons: gets extremely crowded in the evenings; very loud when crowded; staff is snobbish I've been here a few times, and my most enjoyable experiences were during lunch. If you can sit at the bar or in one of the 2 tables by the window, you'll get excellent service. The charcuterie board is great, and the drink selection is also pretty good. However, the last time we came here, it was the middle of the afternoon on Valentine's day. I'm from Boston and Cape Cod and my partner is European; we look like it and we act like it. Upon a brief interaction with the hostess, we both felt spoken down to: "YOU'RE trying to come in on Valentine's day? Without a reservation?" This, coming from someone with a Worcester accent who was dressed like a boy going to church choir. We were shooed away into the dining area: "I guess you could stand over there and look at the menu". It's about 330 in the afternoon- most tables are completely empty. Then a different staff member, also with a working class accent, says "I need you to clear out of this walkway because this is for staff only", despite the fact that no staff were walking there and we had been standing there about 20-30 seconds. We left without saying anything as the hostess tried to say something to us. If you want to feel spoken down to, in the working class city of Worcester no less, come here. Alternately, if you're feeling aggressive and want to squeeze your way in to sit touching shoulder to shoulder, come here. The time before this, the hostess was a soft-spoken woman who mumbled a lot; we had to elbow people out of the way at the middle bar section, which is where she directed us. Maybe in another year I'll want to come back for lunch only. Honestly, I'd rather drive back to Boston if I'm going to be treated snobbishly.
