We ordered from here for a post work binge this past week. This place has for sure been on my radar but we never pulled the trigger. Until now. Mainly because the delivery time was quick and I wanted something slutty. I would describe this place as a... bar-food-italian fusion restaurant. They are aggressive with the typical apps like fries, mozz sticks, grilled cheese, and then have a very thorough pasta and italian classics menu. Whenever I finish my 3 day-12-plus-hour-shift stretch, I need fat and carbs like a junkie needs that next high. This place fit the bill and we ordered mac and cheese, grilled cheese with tomato and a side of fries, and mozzarella sticks. The mac and cheese was unassuming at first. There's no layer of bread crumbs or extra layer of melted cheese on top but that cheesy sauce is decadent SEX. I actually felt compelled to finish it on the spot because creamy pastas don't reheat well. The grease and the solid portion, whatever the fuck that shit is, separates and it becomes a disgusting goop. I physically couldn't finish it, we may or may not have had a whole portion of fries from another order we couldn't tackle a few days before that were on their last few minutes in the fridge. It was as fucking delicious and sauce maintained its integrity through another journey through an oven cycle a day or two later. The m&c definitely isn't the best in the area but it's fucking delicious and a solid option in this place if you're feeling naughty. The mozzarella sticks were also slightly better than average. They may have been freezer mozz sticks but you could've fooled me because the breading was crisp and the mozz thick and stretchy. Do you have a strange fear that the mozz string is going to get caught in your throat? Or is that just me? The grilled cheese was the most standard diner grilled cheese I've had in a HOT minute. It was on thick white bread that they fried nicely in some butter. The cheese, much to my dismay, was the classic American cheese artificial shit. Idk about you, but I prefer good old, authentic cheese, cheddar. Don't get me wrong, I didn't leave my portion to waste. The fries were on the thicker side but not to the degree that I would describe them as steak fries. They were crisp but I would have preferred a touch more seasoning. Overall, very solid fries and did not suffer from the all-to-common delivery sog. Ultimately this place was very satisfying and I'm going to roll the dice on their Italian options next time. read more

After we visited another landmark diner in Worcester a few weeks ago we decided to try The Parkway diner on Shrewsbury Street, I've literally drove past this place hundreds and hundreds of times in my lifetime and I had never been here. We visited on a Monday morning around 10 am and I thought for sure I was going to a diner. Nope. There's a diner there, but you go in a door next to the diner, I could see the empty diner as I walked by (see picture), but you're pretty much going into a barroom that serves breakfast (see picture). There's a bar with seating around it and a bartender/server behind the counter and all the liquor on shelves. My first thought was it smells like someone has been smoking in here. We grabbed a high top and our server came over with menus and we ordered shortly afterwards. I ordered my usual eggs over easy, corn beef hash, home fries and wheat toast, my husband ordered as omelette and home fries. Our meals were meh, the home fries were dry af and the corn beef hash was un memorable. This is a pretty popular place and we were trying to figure out why? We decided it has to be that they serve alcohol. As we were leaving my husband mentioned the stank of cigarettes so I knew it wasn't only me who could smell it. You can't go wrong with the Parkway. It's an institution. The folks who didn't like it -- maybe you went to a different restaurant? Countless times I've been here in both the older diner part and the newer section. All of the food is solid, but their eggplant parm is pretty hard to beat anywhere, and I'm picky about that. read more

Where can I start? the fact that you can have a mimosa or expresso martini while you're eating breakfast, is awesome in itself. The food and drinks are always good. Today I got breakfast takeout "The Broadway Bagel" and yes it was still so satisfying. The sandwich had just the right amount of condiments and flavor and the home fries are nicely cooked. Stopped by for brunch today with a friend. We ordered a cocktail each to start and were appalled by how bad they tasted. I'm not one to ever send drinks back (I'm a firm believer in not wasting food or drink), however we couldn't take more than a couple sips of the cocktails. When we (politely) brought this to the attention of our server she snapped at us saying "I'm not gonna make you drinks over and over. Pick something you like this time". I've gone here multiple times with some of my friends after our overnight shifts and the service is always amazing and food comes out quick! I normally get their country breakfast since it's a combination of basically the works of breakfast including eggs, meats, toast and a pancake to top off the saltiness with something sweet! The sun was shining and the birds were chirping and I was in the mood for a delicious, delightful, delectable egg, bacon, and cheese. "Where can I find this?!" I asked myself. Suddenly an idea popped into my head. "THE PARKWAY!" I began my drive to the Parkway, anticipating the beautiful sandwich that was awaiting me there. I walked out of the Parkway, my egg, bacon, and cheese masterpiece in hand and began driving to work. Once I arrived I scurried up to my office so I could FINALLY enjoy my scrumptious breakfast. I took a few bites, enjoying the warm goodness as it entered my mouth. Then IT HAPPENED. I looked down at my sandwich and it was invaded by HAIR AND LINT. "That can't be hair!" I thought to myself but upon further investigation, it was true. There was hair and lint in my beautiful sandwich. I was devastated. Not only because I was still hungry and couldn't finish my sandwich. But also because I would never be able to "PARK" myself at this restaurant because of the "WAY" my sandwich was made. Two stars seems low for the review, but 3 seems generous, since the Yelp supplied meaning for 3 is "A-OK" First the good. The place is friendly. The service is quick and efficient. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. We came in on a Saturday evening, hoping to eat and be out in time for a movie. Easily done! The food isn't bad, though isn't really great either. The salad was OK, though the tomatoes were the watery colorless sort that you often find in winter, even though you can definitely always pay a little more and get nice tomatoes. My partner's burger was fine. I ordered the pasta special, with eggplant parm and sausage. Generous portion of pasta and eggplant. I hate to criticize, but there is a kind of Italian sausage out there I think of as 'Italian sawdust'. It turns up at sandwich places and such. Not sure who makes it, but it is a real thing, and it's out there. That was the sausage in my plate. The meal portion was so ample, I wasn't able to finish, so I took the pasta dish home. The next day I tossed out the sausage, cooked up a nice super-market sausage to replace it and enjoyed a much improved version of the dinner. Finally, the beer on tap is mostly major labels. There was one offering from a local brewery (Wachusett) though it wouldn't have been my first choice. In choosing this restaurant I may have been influenced by the label "Gastropub" on the Google map directions for the place. The food isn't bad, but this is not a "Gastropub". Having dinner there was a first and, like I said, worked as an early meal before a movie, though I probably won't rush right back there, since there are a lot of dining choices on that same street. read more

This is definitely not the Parkway diner I knew and loved for decades. While visiting the MA area, I made a huge detour so that I could pick up some food at what had been one of my favorite places. After the woman behind the bar assured me that the menu had not changed, I ordered my old favorites: Two veal parm sandwiches, fries, pasta with veal parm, and a soda. (They no longer have cans of coke.) I was extremely disappointed when I bit into one of the sandwiches. The bread was soggy (and did not taste like their old sliced Italian bread), and the veal had a horrible consistency and an unappealing taste. I ate half of the sandwich and threw the other one and a half away. Later in the day, I opened up the pasta. Again, a huge disappointment. The veal was the same as in the sandwich, of course, so I did not even try to eat any of it. Sadly, the sauce was equally bad. Even though I had nothing else to eat for dinner, I threw the out the entire pasta meal. Clearly the tried and true recipes were not passed on to the current owners. On top of all that, the bartender ignored me as much as she could, making me feel the opposite of welcome (and leading me to decide to take everything to go). She was far more interested in chatting with the regular customers who were drinking at 4PM. I am sad to say that I will no longer stop at the Parkway when passing through Worcester (where I went to college). Aside from the food, it does not have the vibe of a local diner nor is it what one would expect when of a Gastropub. It is nothing more than a very basic bar with very bad food. read more

But the fact that two people who were fairly hungry found nothing worth pursuing doesn't bode well for me giving it another try. read more

Way cool old diner. Just a great diner breakfast. Had sunny side eggs with tomato sauce over the home fries. You can even have a cocktail with your breakfast. No booths just stools - one line on the counter and the other lined up on the window. I can still hear the cook yelling "what are you having on the window?" Definitely a must see! read more

Great spot and great atmosphere. I go to the Parkway a few times a week. They are open really early which is great because it allows me to be able to get food before work if I am running too late to make breakfast myself. My fiance and I go there a lot on the weekends (usually sunday) for breakfast. I get steak and eggs, toast, and has browns for $11. Can't beat that. The only think I would add to make the place better and give a 5 start is they don't have turkey burgers or turkey bacon. If I am eating later in the day and don't want something really lite I usually opt for a turkey burger and turkey bacon if its breakfast. I would love to see that added to the menu. I ask every time I go in hoping they will get it haha. Overall great little spot to grab food. read more

Great atmosphere, great music, love the sports vibe. One problem was that the waitress messed up my order and said to put bbq sauce on my burger. If I wanted bbq sauce, I would've said it. What gives? All in all the rest of my parties food looked delicious but the minor rumble-stump in my order is going to have to make me give a lesser review. Very disappointed. UPDATE: With 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning, Parkway delivers. I was just handed my correct burger and let me tell you it was amazing. The bacon and cheese really complimented the juicy burger as I went through an adventure of flavor in every bite. They also gave me extra fries. This is definitely going to change my rating big time. This place was extremely busy on a Sunday morning, as expected. The service was excellent, quick and efficient, and the food came out lightning fast. Unfortunately, my scrambled eggs were hammered, my home fries were unevenly cut so some pieces were crispy, while others were so big they were bordering on raw, the bacon was dry, the sausages were Jimmy Dean, and the corned beef hash was straight from Hormel. Had dinner here the other night and was impressed. The actual diner is open for breakfast and lunch (until 2PM), but they have a small attached restaurant which serves lunch and dinner (usually staying open most nights until 10PM). They have a full bar with 3 TVs usually showing some sports event. The restaurant specializes in Italian. I had the tripe of all things, and it was very good. Prices were very reasonable. Firstly and most importantly this place is not a diner and to call it so is an insult to all respectable diners everywhere. When we arrived we were disturbed to find out that this so called diner doesnt serve breakfast all day, in fact they stop breakfast at 1pm (dumb, dumb, dumb), but low and behold a table was being served breakfast meal at 1:45pm. For those of you with a brain cell doing the math you must be asking yourself, wow over 45 minutes to get a meal or did they just outright lie to this Dad who was there with his little girls for their traditional Sunday pancake breakfast? My take after eating here is that former would most likely be true but I wouldn't rule out that they are prone to being full of crap as well. The menu is as limited in substance as it is with decent tasting food, in fact I would bet that a McDonald's meal is healthier and better tasting simply because not all of it is deep fried. Just about anything you can order is deep fried, ingredients are clearly canned and service is at a snails pace. I cant blame Massachusetts residents being GA-GA for this place, they just dont know any better, heck they are crazy for some hole in the wall in Worcester that sells soggy hot dogs under the auspices of a Coney Island dog. There is nothing Coney Island about them, they are not even hot dogs. But I digress, back to the Parkway Diner. This crack in the wall can at best be described as a greasy spoon, and not the type of greasy spoon that conjures memories of family, friends and good meals but the type of place whose food leaves a burning pit in your chest and gas that can light up a ball park. Do yourself a favor, do your family and friends a favor.......AVOID THIS BLAND and UTTERLY DISAPPOINTING DEATH TRAP! In closing, during a time when city governments are exercising what they feel is their right to protect the public from itself and its fascination with all foods tasty and not necessarily good for you, maybe they should reconsider their stance on super size drinks and menus with dietary information and shut places like the Parkway Diner down because they truly are a public health hazard and a personal disappointment. read more

Maybe some of the worst service I've ever had. I walked in being the only customer, all the wait staff was on their phone. Took 5-10 minutes just to come over. Waitress came over to me mad like I just ruined her day by walking in. I asked for a water and she almost threw it in front of me. I then had to wait 15 minutes for her to come back to take my order. Again, I was the only one in the restaurant. The waitress never came back to refill my water, they all just sat on their phones. When I was ready for the check, I looked their way hoping to get the attention of the wait staff but they never came over, they decided to take shots as a staff instead. I feel bad for basically bashing this place, because the food was very good and well cooked and the bartender was nice, but the whole experience was terrible. read more
