The food here is actually pretty good, but I am giving it one star because the service is just horrible. I have been here 3 times, as I never review a restaurant without experiencing it more than once, and the service is crap. Some of the worst service. There is a lady that I have seen that seems to be a decent waitress (I saw her once, but didnt have her at my table) But everyone else is just horrible. There's one lady who I would assume is in her 50s and she always seems so miserable. 2 of the times I was there she came to our table and said she was leaving early. You can she her sitting on her butt at the employee area doing nothing. Walked into this place around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. It was moderately busy. Sat down (seat yourself) at a booth w my son. No staff in sight other than the bartender who had a fairly full bar. Finally saw a server who walked past us, stared, and attended to the table behind us. Several minutes later the bartender came around to several tables near us, but ignored us. The same server came back again to tables near us, but completely ignored the fact that we were sitting there. All told, 20mins sitting at a table without even an acknowledgment from anyone. We stumbled upon The Simple Man by accident. We got it confused with the Common Man, a chain we knew and liked. It was a bar with a nice warm atmosphere, and I was expecting a decent but not fabulous meal. Boy were we pleasantly surprised. The selection was much better than you would expect. We ordered Steak tips, chili, gluten free chicken broccoli alfredo and chicken parm. Servings were very generous and the food was fabulous! The chef even came out to check in. Our server was wonderful. He was a 17 year employee and was very efficient and personable. We will be sure to revisit if we find ourselves in the area again. read more

Edit: They started slacking on my favorite meal that I get every time and instead of being kind and fixing their mistake they give a huge attitude. I understand it's annoying when things are sent back however I order the same thing all the time and come in all the time. It's not a hard order. Lose the attitude or lose the business. I love this place. The food and drinks are extremely affordable. They offer multiple large TVs and fresh food. This is a "local" hang out but don't let that steer you away. - THE FOOD PORTIONS are very conservative (a $14 salad is half a chicken breast already cut up and a the rest is just a bunch of lettuce with really no other substance). The wings have a strange texture and for some reason comes with a bunch of soggy lettuce that just gets all over them and makes it look incredibly unappetizing. - THE SERVICE is hit or miss. Never have had a rude server but most of the time they are spacey and melancholic. - TAKE OUT from there is typically a difficult process. Most recently I was told 20 minutes from when I called, ended up having to go there and wait an additional 30 minutes on top of that. Honestly seemed like they just didn't even bother to start cooking the food until I got there which was quite annoying. If I wasn't suckered into paying before I heard the wait time I would have just left. What was once a decent spot for food has seemingly just become another over priced subpar venture that I have no intention of ordering from again. Found this place a year ago. We make sure that anytime we are in Clinton to stop at Simple Man Saloon. The entire staff is friendly and out going. Melissa makes a hell of a drink! (Try the Bloody Mary) plus on Saturdays they have live music. We usually order Mac n cheese which is outstanding, and burgers are the bomb! Pricing you can't beat, a beer is only $4. read more

Black and blue burger was on point. Came in for a quick dinner on Christmas Eve Eve and got speedy service. Looked like there was only one stressed waitress for the whole place, but she was friendly, our food was hot, order wasn't messed up and the drink was good. Luncheon fish and chips looked small, but exactly the perfect dinner size. My black and blue burger was phenomenal. Highly, highly recommend! The only downside was the Caesar salad we had as a starter, really weird tasting and don't really like it Will be coming back for more. read more

It's too bad that the food is so good cause the service is absolutely awful. Not only are they extremely slow, but there's a really bad attitude problem among the staff. There's nothing worse than going to a restaurant where you don't feel welcome. My brother and his girlfriend have gone in a few times and have had the same issue as well. And we both agreed that we won't be going back there for a while. If your staff can't handle 3-4 tables at a time, maybe it's time to hire more staff. And probably a class on manners! read more

Food took forever to come out and took 45 minutes to just get the check as we often saw her sitting and chatting with friends. So I've only been here one time so it my be a slightly biased review and if that's the case I will update this review the food and atmosphere was very good so I will give them another try. My friends and I were here on a Thursday I wouldn't say the place was packed only a few tables not filled. The reason I'm only giving two stars and not more the service was awful! After seated it took about 15 to 25 minutes for us to have our drink order taken, the waitress nice but very forgetful and slow. The food also took awhile even tho it was very simple dishes for most of what we ordered. That being said the food was delicious and I will definitely be back because of that and if service sucks again they offer take out! Everything we ordered was hot fresh and tasted so good! The prices are good for both drafts and food. Hopefully next experience will be better and I can recommend this place but as of now not yet. Side note and this is not on the restaurant but on clinton town. The street is very dark my girlfriend said she would not go here at night on her own because all the streetlights were out. read more

I have a shop/garage out in Lancaster and find myself looking to grab a bite and a beer before heading home. The Simple Man Saloon is the perfect place for this. It's not a fancy place, but isn't a dive like some places in the area. They served good, basic food with an occasional interesting twist and the beer selection is good. They have a combination or booths and tables and a large bar area with plenty of TVs to watch, if that's your thing. The servers are pleasant and efficient and we have never gone lacking. While I have never taken advantage of it, they seems to have a full schedule of events in the evening, including karaoke and live music. If you are looking for a nice, basic place to grab a bite with good service and a local vibe, check out the Simple Man. It's a regular on my list now. read more

Have eaten here many many times and enjoy the atmosphere and food. We live in town so today we decided to place a take-out order. Upon calling I was met with a distracted and disconnected employee who took my order. You could hear that there were a million people in the background.. but I don't believe that's my problem. Ordered: Cobb salad with fried chicken rather than grilled and honey mustard dressing on the side. Received: Garden salad with 3 chicken tenders tosses on top. No salad dressing. No egg. No bacon. No cheese. NO COBB! If you can't get someone focused enough to get the orders right on the phone, then don't offer take-out service. This pissed me off because I was dreaming of that Cobb salad and I hate paying for something I didn't order. I should have brought it back but didn't feel like dealing with the BS. read more

Not usually the look of a place with stellar food. Instead of ordering an entree each, we decided to split two apps. As Kerri mentioned, we chose the nachos and the wings. Was it fate that led us to garlic parmesan or just the fact that I'm not a BBQ kind of girl? Whatever the reason, we were pleased with the result. The nachos could have been so much better. They were pretty lacking, we'll leave it at that. But oh yeah, those wings! They really were huge. I mean I've never seen wings this size. The smell coming off these wings was ambrosia. They seriously smelled like fresh Italian chicken cutlets. I knew immediately that we were gonna reek. One taste said it didn't matter. So if you find yourself in Clinton and you find yourself hungry, you should really find yourself here. I can't wait to hear if the other flavors are just as amazing! read more

It's located on high st in Clinton, which looks like it's straight out of the turn of the century, and the bar is no different. It's a classic saloon that also serves very respectable food. The bar itself is nice. Good, long bar with plenty of room, and they have tables and booths available as well. On the weekends, they have bands, and there's plenty of room for that as well. It's nothing fancy, but if you're looking for a place like this, you're not looking for fancy! It's relaxing and casual. The beer/drink selection is decent, and the menu is pretty extensive. They offer much of the "American fare" you would expect at a saloon like this, but the quality is probably higher than you might expect. If you're looking to watch the big game on TV, they have you covered there, too. Several flat screen TV's are hung throughout the place, so it's also conductive to that. Overall, a nice neighborhood saloon, and definitely one of my "go-to" spots if I want to have a relaxed drink and watch the game. read more

I was in Clinton for a wake and was looking for a place to have a quick meal. This place was on a main road with plenty of street parking. We walked in and it seemed very divey, but I had read good reviews so decided to give it a whirl. I ordered the Western burger with spicy fries. I was a little disappointed they didn't have sweet potato fries, but I was elated at how amazing their spicy fries were. I can honestly say they served me one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. It was cooked perfectly and so juicy. My friend ordered a BLT with waffle fries and she cleaned her plate as well. It was seat yourself, so it took a bit for the bartender to notice us, but once she did, she came right over with menus and was very cheerful. There were no other people dining, but several regulars seated at the bar. Don't be turned off by the setting and how it looks inside, & definitely try the burger! The menu was very extensive and had a lot of options...appetizers: dips, zucchini fries, wings, etc and lots of pizza, sandwiches, subs, salads, your typical pub food, but delicious! If I ever find myself in Clinton again, I'll definitely stop by. The only negative thing was that there was no A/C, so in the dead of July, I was sweating BALLS. I tend to go to The Simple Man when I'm looking for a good, hot meal. It's also the restaurant I recommend to friends and family when they're looking for a place to eat. I find the portions to be enough, as I always have to take home what's left on my plate. They have a rotating drink selection that is written on a blackboard behind the bar that consists of both mixed drinks and shots. They also have daily specials as well. The prices are fairly reasonable, too. It doesn't break the bank to have lunch with an alcoholic beverage. read more

We have eaten here on and off for years and seen chefs come and go leaving nothing to rave about but OK for a burger and a beer. When we heard that once again there was a new chef we decided to give it another try. BIG mistake. We both ordered steak tips medium,2 different ways. They arrived 25 minutes later in 1/2 inch cubes tough as leather and way over well done. They were accompanied by brown spotted broccoli and bland mashed potatoes. When I asked for butter they brought me a cup of melted butter. All this for $17 each. This was our 3rd visit to Simple Man. Never had a bad experience here. This particular evening stood out with the accommodating & patient staff. We had called ahead (as it was a band night) to reserve a table for a party of 8 as the evening went on, two of the couples had to cancel. The staff was quite understanding. Great place for a beer and a burger, mixed with some good music and sports on TV. The wait staff are great and the place is small -town friendly. I'm local but not a townie, and feel comfortable there. The fish and chips are great, and come with cole slaw and every possible permutation of French fries, spicy fries, curly, sweet potato, onion rings (which are great)...you get the picture. They also have a number of good salads, which is my thing. There's usually a good IPA on tap as well. Wednesday night is musical bingo, and there's a lot of camaraderie as the old timers help the kids figure out that they're listening to Otis Redding. They have good live bands on Saturday night, which is fun. Age range runs the gamut from young couples on a date, to older folks out for dinner; and early evening, you'll see families with kids stop in. Highly recommended. read more
