A great spot to go before a WooSox game. They open up all the windows, there's food, beer, it's lively, and the perfect amount of casual. From my memory, they're fairly priced. When I've been before a WooSox game, they are very busy and service can be slow but that's expected and the staff is always kind. I wouldn't go here if it wasn't before a WooSox game, but it has its time and its place. Me and my boyfriend went in for a drink. I enjoyed the cocktail I ordered and all the seating options available. There were lots of people there when I went and there was a lively atmosphere. Went on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch with my aunt and mother after a stroll through some of the shops. Maybe a dozen people in there but only one bartender/server. I was next to this girl and mike told her that she had "too much" to drink - which was definitely a crock. She arrived after I had and sat the next seat over to me. She only had two drinks. Yet, a few seats down, a white woman was on her (at least) fifth shot, and was more than a little obnoxious. The girl who had two drinks was quiet and kept to herself. I've heard this place gets a little crazy at night, but I can't speak to that as I'm normally there in the late afternoon/early evening. The service is always super fast and super friendly. They have a large selection of beers and spirits. The menu, which I often forget about, is huge and full of quality items. I ordered a Greek salad and all of the veggies were super-fresh. Not typical bar fare, and really delicious. I'm also partial to their tater tots. There are tons of TVs as, after all, it's a sports bar. As someone brand new to town - I struggled to find somewhere to watch football on Sunday. I went to Buffalo Wild Wings - usually an old standard - and spent more time with an empty beer glass than I cared for. So - I tried The Banner after reading on Yelp that they had several tv's. My Washington State drivers license threw them off a bit (I've gotta get that MA license!) but after looking at a few other forms of ID it was all good. I respect a bar that wants to serve responsibly. They put my game on - even though I was the only one in the bar watching the Browns - kept my beer glass full and were so nice to me. In a city with so many great bars, I really don't get the appeal of this one. Sure, its on Green St, but there are a number of good bars in this area that all offer something unique. The Banner is trying to be a sports bar and maybe an Irish pub. It doesn't really accomplish the pub thing, but I guess you could call it a sports bar since there are TVs that indeed do show sports. The beer selection isn't good, a mix of Sam Adams and American macro crap with very little variety if you don't like lagers. This is New England, if I'm going to drink a cheap, crappy beer its going to be a Gansett, which I don't remember them having. Fortunately this is Worcester, so you can get Wormtown, which was the saving grace of my trip here. The food is cheap, but probably straight off the back of a Sysco truck. The fries were definitely frozen at some point. My burger was fine, the meat wasn't very flavorful, but bleu cheese and grey poupon can remedy that pretty well. This place always seems to be busy, so it must have its regulars, but I can't see myself coming back. Its not offensive, but there is nothing to distinguish it from the dozens of other bars in this town. read more

Good, solid sports bar right across from the Lucky Dog Music Hall. My band played a gig last night at the 'Dawg so we broke bread at the Banner beforehand. Awesome waitress - super friendly, on top of her game...I think her name was Darcy (?) Anyways she took real good care of us. My roommate/roady for the night Dave wanted crumbled bleu cheese on his burger (a killer move if you've never tried it), but they were all out of it, so she came out and asked what he wanted instead, and threw in a plate of onion rings for the table for the trouble. When do you ever see that happen? She or the kitchen didn't even mess it up, but she wanted to make up for forgetting to mention that they were out of it before. That's Ritz Carlton service. The menu is typical bar fare with great prices (6 or 7 balloons for sandwiches and burgers with either fries or chips). I had the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was tasty. Grilled instead of breaded and fried, served up tight with lettuce tomato and red onion. It should be illegal to eat a burger or chicken sandwich without red onion on it. The crowd was gettin their drink on, a few people were still eating. The Captain Morgan promo girls were there giving out samples of the Captain's new 100 proof rum mixed with coke or ginger ale. Little mini-shots that were half rum, half soda, so those, along with a couple $2.50 (!) pints of Bud got me toasty before the gig. We also got the Captain's girls to come over to the gig after their shift at the Banner. All in all a great sports bar with friendly staff and good people seekin beverages and good grub. Boston people should make the trek out to Worcester more often...there's a decent amount of exciting stuff going on and cheap bars at which to congregate. Big up yoself, WORCESTER. read more

The staff here is amazing.. however the male owner was very focused on making sure his televisions were on the games his friends had money on. We had two older gentleman next to us hoping to watch the Red Sox on the larger tv and they were told.... too bad, it's on one of the small televisions - which they couldn't see. Multiple people were asking to change the channels and it didn't matter. Advice.. keep in mind the normal people bringing money into your bar. read more

If you're looking for a small business to support during the pandemic, pick a different one. There are far better options for food and service on the same exact street so you won't have to look far. Food is generally overpriced (precovid) and mediocre at best. Quality has been going downhill for years due to poor management and an apparent lack of interest on the owner's part. You'll feel better about giving your money to an establishment that isn't owned by a lazy fool who is rude to employees and guests. He also can't be bothered to wear his mask properly. The only good thing about the banner is it's cheap. Drinks are alright, decent selection of booze and beer. Food is just okay. My most recent selection however was terrible! I got the "day after wrap" (turkey, cranberry sauce, cheese, mayo, and stuffing.) the stuffing is made from dark pumpernickel bread! Ew!!! I was so upset. Who would do that?!?! Pumpernickel stuffing?! I still can't let it go. So bizarre. They also messed up all the sides for everyone in our party because the bartender tried to memorize five peoples orders instead of just writing it down so we knew it was bound to happen, sure enough the food comes out and everyone has the wrong sides with our sandwiches. One of the best local spots in Worcester. Great staff and great crowd. I became a regular after falling in love with the soups on the specials menu. I was there for a weekday lunch. The food is delicious. I got the fried chicken. Although no vegetables are served, the chicken was perfectly done -- crispy, boneless and moist inside. Mashed potato on the side was good. Friends got burgers and fries ... the fries were perfectly done. They looked so good that I had to try them. They were perfect, not too thin, not steak fries though, but just crunchy enough on the outside and soft on the inside! Yummy. This is a sports bar so, if you don't like tv, don't go. This place has about 6 tv's on the walls. The sound is even piped into the lavatory. My only complaint is that the tables only seat four comfortably. read more

The Banner has above average pub food and lots of choices for even the pickiest eater. I highly recommend the spinach n artichoke dip , pot stickers , friend pickles n clam chowder for appetizers. The day after sandwich had fresh turkey and was a tasty choice. The service was prompt accurate and friendly - which is no small task with a party of 12. We were in and out in just over an hour. This appears to be an early crowd establishment as a return trip that same evening yielded a different service experience. Although the closed at midnight , we were made to be that of an inconvenience at 10:30. We went for a 5 star experience with a demanding party of 12 at 6pm to a 1 star experience at 10:30pm. I would return for a lunch or dinner trip with an understanding that service degrades later in evening. read more

I'm from out of state, and I only have ONE ID, which is my LICENSE that CLEARLY states I'm 21, and everything. The bouncers told me I had to have a "back up ID" for out of state ID's and when I told him that was my only ID, he turned me away and refused entry to the bar. Like The Boynton, The Banner is commonly referred to as one of Worcester's watering holes. What I was not informed is that The Banner is a watering hole for underage kids and college students. There are rarely any common faces working the door or behind the bar, the turnover rate for employees at this bar are ridiculous. The rent-a-cop that stands outside is less than informative and fairly rude. I was at this establishment around 8pm the other day with an old friend of mine. At the front door my friend tripped over the unsteady sidewalk and we laughed about the stupidity of the situation. The cop and door man would not let us in telling my friend he was too drunk to enter. Had this been late at night or had we been drinking I would understand but it was early evening and we had not been drinking at all. I tried to tell the man this but he refused us service. I found this ironic because a few nights before I was in this establishment when a small fight broke out and no one was asked to leave. This is a bar for underage kids and college students only. Anyone over 21 need not try. read more

Wow! Had lots of appetizers last night and all were great! Fried pickles! Gorgonzola steak quesadillas! Spinach and artichoke dip with real toast points! The Buffalo tater tot's! A couple friends had sandwiches and tons of fries on the side. There was only one waitress on and we had a huge party. She kept up with everything and served with a smile and never complained. BAN THE BANNER. I am absolutely disgusted and appalled by the lack of customer service. Our party was told to leave and the only explanation we were given was because one member of our party was intoxicated. We had just arrived and had not even ordered a drink yet. We assumed it was a misunderstanding or a mistaken identity of a banned patron but attempts to seek more information were completely ignored. The "manager" asked the on grounds police officer to escort us out. The officer was sympathetic and was only following orders since I completely understand the rights of business owners. Banner bar is your usual 2-3 star bar. They have a full menu, for dinner, lunch, whatever. My visit to Banner was the first stop on a bar crawl so we all ate dinner there - I had fish and chips, and we ordered some nachos and mozzarella sticks for the table. Everything was fine, nothing was great. The mozzarella sticks tasted about the same as the kind I have in my freezer at home. The nachos were the usual pile of chips with cheese and jalepenos, with several handfuls of ground beef just thrown on top. No guacamole, or anything else. My fish and chips were fried until everything tasted like an unseasoned french fry. So, you know, alright for a bar crawl dinner but I certainly wouldn't come here for the food. My drinks were overpriced for what they were - I ordered an iced tea with blueberry vodka (try it - trust me). The waitress told me that she couldn't get the bartender to make that and brought me a shot of blueberry vodka with a huge cup of iced tea and charged me separately for both. I cannot understand why the bartender refused to make a drink that any other place would have (and did later in the night). The reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1 is the wait staff. I keep going here with friends for a night out, but I never can figure out why exactly. Its pretty much a standard, straight up bar without much else going on. It gets crazy busy and crowded at night, nearly impossible to get from the door to the bathroom. I guess this is a favorite spot in Worcester, but its not one of my personal favorites.
