Everyone in a local restaurant group raves and comments about Breen's Cheesesteak all the time, so we figured it was about time we checked out what everyone is talking about... We stopped in for lunch and it is a typical old divey bar (nothing the matter with that), like a place your grandfather went to. They're wasn't much parking around because there was already a decent sized crowd there for lunch. We took seats at the bar (plenty of other seating available) and we ordered drinks and lunch, my husband got the clam chowder and a Rueben and I ordered the cheesesteak from onions and mushrooms. We decided to share our sandwich orders. The clam chowder was very good, it was thick with ingredients (not flour). My husband's Rueben was delicious and I'd definitely come back for that. The cheesesteak was meh, it was plenty full of meat but neither of us cared for the American cheese melted in with the meat. read more

We have heard so much about Breens that during the recent holiday break we decided to go and try it. Very glad that we did. We shared a large steak and cheese with mushrooms and onion. The lunch time trade was brisk and when we return I would try either the Reuben or Rachel. read more

Breen's is a true hidden gem. Old school Irish pub with that classic townie crew. Bar service was efficient but not intrusive. Had a drink every time I needed one without having to ask. After seeing the previous reviews talking about how amazing the Steak and Cheese was at Breens, my wife and I had no choice but to check it out. Maybe we came on a bad day? On the day we visited, the place was absolutely jam packed with people watching a college football bowl game. Seating was a free for all, luckily we found two stools near each other to sit at. We eventually figured out that we needed to go up to the bar to order our drinks, so I did that. Then we wanted to order food, but the only menu we could see anywhere around was on a chalkboard-looking thing above the "kitchen" area, so I snapped a picture of it and my wife and I decided what to get. While there were several yummy-sounding things on the menu, the only food items they had available were burgers and pastrami (I think). And that was it. So I ordered one burger that my wife and I split. But they were apparently out of burger buns, so they had to put it on a sub roll. Honestly, the burger tasted really good, well-seasoned and plenty of juiciness. But it was very weird eating it on a sub roll. But the good taste was the only thing that saved my review from being 1-star. This seems to be a bit of a local "secret" type of place, and maybe next time we're in the Worcester area we'll try it again (still want that amazing Steak and Cheese I keep reading about), but our first experience was nothing short of disappointing. read more

Great Bar and Grill Really, this place has the best burger, think they call it the Breen's Burger. Not sure how big, but it is BIG, and char grilled to perfection. Comes with a nice big made in Worcester pickle that also is also excellent. I've tried burgers all over the world and it is nearly impossible these days to find a good one. After hearing all the hype of this place I finally got to check it out. They were having a pop up from Fuego Flan. And let me tell you we will be back. When you first pull up you aren't sure what to expect since it looks like a dive hole in the wall local joint. But when you walk in you get the local vibe feel. It's cash only so make sure you have cash when you go but if not they have an atm inside. They have a good selection of beer and seltzers that most places this size wouldn't have which for me is important since I'm pretty picky. The food was massive and delicious. I had the steak and cheese and they just stuff it with meat. It was very good, very cheesy. I was stuffed after the first half of my sandwich. My boyfriend had the Breen burger. He thought it was very good as well. The bread was massive and looked fresh. Both came with HUGE pickles and regular potato chips. I left full and very satisfied. I can't believe it took me 16 years of living in Worcester to visit. I will definitely be returning here & recommend checking it out. read more
