Wow there are some stiff competitions in Annandale with all these bakeries springing up along the way. I had not visited Breeze simply because it was at the end of the strip but good thing it was next to Yechon. Going into Breeze was like stepping into an Asian interpretation of Western decor, in particular French it just seemed like some over-the-top fantasy. It was kind of surreal. The quality of the baked goods were the same to me - Korean-style. The fruity bing-soo was refreshing with lots of fresh fruits and it was not too sweet. I have to say, of the bakeries in Annandale, Breeze is the one I go to most frequently. Reason being, I love the ambiance, convenience, and Wi-Fi. It is a good hangout spot to just socialize with friends and I come here to even study (nice to study at a café like place and sip on coffee or tea while doing work). To clarify, I am not giving Breeze 4 stars because of the quality of their food, but because of what I have mentioned above. Recently, I realized that they have been lacking on the quality of their pastries/breads. I would recommend going to Shilla Bakery, about 3 minutes away, who have much better selections and quality of pastries/breads. However, I do enjoy their gelato and cupcakes/mini delectable cakes like, tiramisu that they have (not amazing, but acceptable). Their gelato is one of the best items they have there. Try their green tea, hazelnut, and yogurt flavors! It's delicious. Their items are also pretty pricey and I am NOT a person, who cares much for pricing when it comes to food, but I'd have to say, they are pretty expensive. Every time I visit, I always buy a good amount of bread, since I'm already there and they add up really quick. An utter disappointment ): I was ecstatic to finally try Breeze Bakery's pastries and bing-soo/snow after hearing about the hype. Yet again, perhaps it's the pre-dispositions I had that VA would have the same standards as the west-coast..I was terribly wrong. What and Why Fruit Bing-soo: The pink syrup tasted like frosting that came out of a child's easy-bake oven and the ice is a little too chunky for my liking Green Tea matcha snow: Now this had to have been a joke...the snow is just ice, pure ice, so it tastes like you're eating fluffy water. (Note: Shaved snow, by culinary definition, contains either milk or condensed milk, and the flavoring is incorporated in the snow). To add onto the disappointment, the green tea matcha was just splattered over the "snow." So essentially, it's a mouthful of powder and water. Oh, and the red bean is from a can so don't expect it to be awesome. But +1 for the green tea gelato, it's awesome. Corn bread pastry: Cold, not appetizing, and just plain wrong. They use a coffee coating to add a crisp to the corn bread then add some cream filling to the "corn" bread...which had no hint of corn in anyway. read more

Just visited them during their grand opening and I have to say that it was a very enjoyable experience. First, it was really clean and the decor was fresh inside. Second, the staff is extremely helpful. They just sharked the place waiting for folks in need of assistance. Prices were decent and the baked goods were pretty tasty. I can say that, since they had free samples of everything and I had to try most of it.... I ended up with a baguette, the rice donuts, and the steamed white rice cake. All for around $8. They had a 10% off grand opening sale, which they applied without telling me! Awesome! All and all, the baked goods were better than Shilla and Matin du Paris, but it's still not as good as the Vietnamese/Chinese Bakeries that use a different type of yeast for their breads. Breeze Bakery is a Korean bakery that offers a variety of sweet and savory breads, bingsoo, pastries, gelato/froyo, cakes, and drinks. They offer a few samples, but it's a weak showing compared to their competitor, Shilla Bakery. Of the breads I've tried, the curry bread and nutella cream breads are some of the more special ones they offer. Stay clear of the orange muffins (no orange flavor whatsoever). After an obviously incredible meal at Bon Chon--oops, I mean, Chi Mc in Annandale, I was craving some bubble milk tea hardcore. Since the boba at Shilla bakery is all of the frozen variety, I thought maybe Breeze would have some other options. And, of course, as I always do whenever I walk into a Korean bakery, I was looking forward to picking up a few baos to take home with me. Unfortunately, Breeze doesn't have the kind of pastry selection that Shilla offers. It was sadly lacking (I did go fairly late, but I feel like Shilla's shelves are always bursting even when I visit after dinner). I was able to order a black milk latte with added bubbles (they don't technically offer black tea as a flavor for their bubble tea/boba, but at least it wasn't frozen, like I was hoping!) and it was okay -- CRAZY sweet, so I'm not sure I could handle it on a regular basis. Then again, I lived in Taipei for three years so my standards for bubble milk tea are pretty high. I really liked the space inside Breeze -- it's open and nicely decorated and there's clearly tons of seating, but I'll still probably stick to Shilla from now on if I'm on the lookout for baked goods. read more

This has been the best bakery we've been to in the area in terms of flavor. Their bread is perfectly buttery which makes the red bean buns that much better, unlike other places where it just tastes like airy white bread. Their chestnut bread loaf is also a delicious twist on plain bread and the slices are thick so you can get a good bite. Everything else, i.e. bingsoo, bubble tea, is meh and better elsewhere. I tried the red bean bingsoo and thai tea bubble tea. The bingsoo ice was way too coarse and the toppings were "wrong" - not at all what you'd expect from a traditional bingsoo. The cornflakes I can somewhat excuse because apparently that's a thing now, but honeydew? Am I just missing something here? With such a subtle flavor, that's not the first fruit that pops into my head when I think of bingsoo. Now for the bubble tea. Delightful chocolate cake. Very subtle light taste that was not overly sweet. It's the kind of cake that you can eat at the end of a big meal and not feel like you're going into a coma. I think that has a lot to do with the lower sugar content and the very heavily whipped cream that is airy and delightful to someone who is more accustomed to heavy handed American versions. Perfect for late-nights when you want to stay out but don't really have a place to sit and chill with some coffee and dessert because they stay open until 12 a.m. Sometimes I also come here during the afternoon around 3-4 pm when I want to study because during these times during the weekdays, they aren't that busy. Food & Drink: What I like about this bakery regarding food and drink, is that they have this amazing blueberry cream cheese bread, I have yet to find anywhere else. Also, I like their assortment of hot and cold drinks. I really like their iced green tea latte, it's pretty good and they manage to mix it so that there's no powder still in chunks. I also order the lime mojito very often, it's not alcoholic. I think it's just a mix of ginger-ale and something else, and then they put a mint leaf in there which just makes the taste a lot more refreshing. I have introduced this drink to my friends and all of them seem to like it too. Their other pastries are okay, not a huge fan of bread. They have a variety of really cute and unique cakes and pastries. Although, I have tried some and the taste is simply okay, nothing special. There are some I really like such as the mango mousse cake, I'm not sure if they have that anymore since they change cakes every so often. The green tea cake was okay, but not amazing. Ohhhhh yeah, the gelato is pretty good too!!! Not bad for when I need a quick gelato fix. My favorite flavors are: green tea, hazelnut, and amaretto. It's a relaxing and enjoyable place to hang out with friends. There are two floors, so plenty of space to find a table or even if you get a table by yourself. When you walk in there's vines of foliage across the left side of the bakery and a fake tree near the center of bakery. It's really quite nice and creative what they've done to decorate the store. The little lights they add on it add a nice ambiance. In the summer, the outdoor seating on the second floor is quite nice. I like their selection in furniture for tables and chairs. This place really knows how to appeal to their customers through the use of their interior design. Their customer service is awesome! If you ask for samples or anything, they will give it to you. I have heard such great things about Breeze so I've been wanting to come here for the longest time. However, I've had to give up the past few times since we couldn't find parking (Yechon is just too popular!). Finally did manage to park and go in the past weekend. Of course, I went straight for the yogurt bingsoo. They gave us a buzzing pager and we sat down. 15 minutes later... still no bingsoo? Apparently the buzzer was broken but they never bothered to call out the order. And they gave it to us in a To Go container for some reason. So we got a small, melted order of bing soo. Compared to Shilla, the bingsoo is about $2 more expensive. The only plus is that the ice is flavored with syrup throughout (mixed in) rather than poured on top like at Shilla. There are teensy amounts of mochi and yogurt while there was a lot of ice (To Go makes a difference). Fruits included (canned) mandarins, (canned) peaches, (canned) pineapple, fresh kiwi, and fresh strawberry. Honestly, I prefer the Shilla bing soo and service.... The decor isn't worth the extra trade-offs. Also tried the macarons here. They are not too sweet. Except for vanilla and coffee, the flavors do not come out well. Unlike the ones from Laduree or Bouchon in NY, these were not chewy. Rather, they were a little bit more cakey with giant air bubbles in the shell. Still decent though for a fix. read more

It's clean as a hospital, well designed, welcoming, refreshing, and simply enjoyable. The name carries well - it's a breezy, airy, relaxing sort of place. I had a green tea boba tea, which was excellent. This isn't the crappy sort of powdered junk that tastes like stale sugar with ice - they really did a good job and the whole drink was ridiculously pleasant. Aesthetically, this place is probably my favorite place. The first words out of my mouth were "THIS PLACE IS SO CUTE" and not because I'm a girl but because it's actually that cute. There is a lot of space in the upstairs seating area including a beautiful outdoor balcony-ish area plus there's free wifi! Even the desserts are adorable, from the cat cakes to the beautifully decorated cupcakes...I wouldn't even want to eat them because they're so pretty! I got a green tea paste filled donut thing (I forgot the name...) and I thought it was so interesting that they had bulgogi quesadillas so obviously I had to try that too. It was better than I thought it would be! A little too sweet to be a quesadilla but with the jalapeño paste it's really good! I would've gotten more pastries or breads to take home but it was all a bit pricey...I could go to many other places for cheaper. A friend from NoVA introduced me to this bakery so I stopped by this past labor day weekend. Inside, they have all their freshly baked goods right in the center and upfront by the cash register they have all their fruit tarts, cakes, etc in glass display. There is so much too choose from and everything looks really good so I ended up grabbing a basket and filling it with different sweet rolls, fruit breads, rum cake, and red bean muffins. I also ordered their bing soo and taro. The taro was okay, too much syrup making it really sweet. I enjoyed the bing soo more, but their large bowl is a lot. It had mixed fruits, yogurt, and cereal and it took all 3 of us to finish it. The inside is surprisingly well decorated--actually its incredibly beautiful! Annandale is a hot spot for Korean dishes and desserts, but man I cannot express how awesome this place is! There is an amazing variety of cakes, breads, and drinks here! I couldn't stop looking at the cute pastries. I have a weakness for cute desserts and some of the ones here are made to look like little animals. I got a milk tea bubble tea and it was one of the best bubble teas I have ever had. What can I say, it's Breeze cafe, probably the most busy of all the Korean bakeries in Annandale. The coffee is good, the boba teas are delicious and the pastries are very good as well. Especially their green tea cake, simply amazing!! Oh, and their ice creams are fantastic! Their selection of sweet breads is fairly robust, though I think Shilla's bakery has a larger selection. These wonderful little sweet breads come with a variety of fillings like red bean, custard, mocha, etc., and are yummy!!! However, it's their cakes that really set them apart from the competition. The rolls looked good but I wish they just had samples instead of trying to ask and explain what they are. I would rather taste something before buying each and every thing just to try it.
