Another good Korean bakery in option for pastries and cakes. The strawberry cake was delicious, with the right amount of sweetness. So far my favorite is the matcha roll cake; it was light, fluffy, and not overly rich. We've either stopped by right when they opened or shortly before closing, so we haven't had a chance to see their full selection of pastries. I originally went during their soft opening with my daughter. The design is beautiful and the customer service was great. I went on a Friday so it was a bit crowded but it was cool. I wasn't sure how it worked at first but quickly figured it out. We got a tray and browsed the displays. We got Korean hotdogs, a dark smores cookie, and a chocolate dessert and green tea dessert with cream filling. I'm not sure of the proper name. The gentleman at the register suggested adding a topping like ketchup or mustard to the corn dog but we tried them as is and loved them. They had sugar on them and were so good. The cookie was delicious too. We both liked the outside of the cream dessert but not the actual filling. Since their soft opening, we have been back twice to try different items. I really enjoyed their layered chocolate cake. I also wish the strawberry cake came in slices instead of having to buy the whole cake. I also have not tried any of their drinks but I want to. Went in on a Monday (5/18) with a friend. It was pretty packed but still with fast service. We ordered strawberry bingsoo, lychee yogurt smoothie, and the strawberry matcha smoothie. They were all yummy and very affordable. I left my sunglasses in the restroom and forgot about it until an hour later. The general manager went through the entire footage (over an hour worth) and looked everywhere for my sunglasses. Confirmed that I went into the restroom with my sunglasses and left without them. Checked everybody that went in after me. They even let me come in after hours to check myself. Although we couldn't find my sunglasses, I really appreciated their help! Dessert 39 started their soft opening early April and was still in this phase when we went last Wednesday after dinner. Most pastries were out by the time we arrived, so I'd definitely recommend coming early if you can! Between the two of us, we split a roll slice and got our own salt bread. GREEN TEA TOKYO ROLL SLICE - 6 I like more cake than cream, and this roll slice was 90% cream and 10% cake. While it wasn't too sweet, my friend and I left 40% of the cream. Not worth it for the price. SALT BREAD - 3.39 I'm glad salt bread is starting to pop up in the area. For the price, it's pretty solid. However, it's not as crispy as I hoped, a bit too dense for my liking. But I'm willing to overlook this since we did buy it an hour before closing. I imagine it'd be better fresh out of the oven. AMERICANO (VENTI) - 4.90 Initially, I wanted their grande (4), but they said they only had venti. I'm unsure why they didn't have their grande size available -- an Americano is literally just espresso shot + water + ice. Their coffee is made using Onyx beans, which is bougie, but I appreciate good quality coffee. However, the Americano tasted kind of burnt, which wasn't great. It was worth a visit, but I'll wait until they're opened longer before coming back. I had some free time on my day off, so I decided to check this spot out since it's been all over instagram. I figured the hype would've died down by now, but when I came on a Saturday around 2 PM, the parking lot was still packed. they share parking with other stores, so we ended up parking by the paint shop next door. They have a few outdoor tables and some indoor seating. I was expecting a bigger bakery selection, and the huge bear decoration in the middle takes up a lot of space.... The place definitely looks like they invested a lot into the decor. Overall, I didn't really love most of the items I got, and I'd probably just go to Tours les Jours down the street instead. Super cute cafe with pastries and desserts. Music is slightly louder side but still super nice and I think I would still be able to do some studying here. There is plenty of parking available. The pastries are super tasty and unlike any I've tried from other places. They had corn dogs in the case and cute photo ops inside. The peach mango tea was good! 60% sweet was still a bit too sweet for me. I'll try 30% next time. Service was good. Very modern, futuristic looking bakery & cafe with surprisingly affordable pastries. Drinks are health-focused and aren't super sweet. Default sweetness is 60%, and if you think that is still too much for you then you can always adjust. Sizing of the drinks here is interesting- only venti or trenta which is big size and even bigger size lol. There are no smalls here! The trenta you can probably share between two people. I got the trenta to try and for the aesthetics of my photos but it was a lot to drink for one person. The tokyo rolls are very yummy and the whipped cream that's in it is very light. The interior is extremely spacious in here with indoor and outdoor seating. They pay attention to detail here. Dessert 39 is the first U.S. location, and has taken over what was once Manoa Bakery. We were super excited about them opening, and decided to trek out to try out their drinks and pastries! Just like any other Korean bakery, you grab a tray and line it up with the parchment paper; grab a pair of tongs and choose from their selection - we went for: +the salt bread +a pecan cluster cookie +the salt bread loaf - definitely our favorite, especially when it comes right out of the kitchen +and, a cream-filled donut (from their refrigerated section) For the drinks, the soft opening is only offering one size (the Venti); they have coffee, frappes, ades, smoothies, signature lattes/milk teas, ice tea, and even low cal options for lattes and smoothies. We ordered: +the Jeju Matcha Latte +the Banana Kick Milk Latte +and, the Peach Green Apple iced tea All were requested with light ice and were well-prepared; however, the lattes, while milky and creamy, can be inconsistent, as we found some of the drinks with the sugar not fully blended it - we ended up swallowing sugar granules, which is not that great. The iced tea was refreshing - the first time, it was a bright neon green color; on the next visit, it was the usual brown tea color, which was interesting; both times, it was tasty. Can't wait for their jumbo-sized reusable cup to be available! Staff and service were both kind and friendly! While I appreciate the aesthetics here, I wasn't feeling their pastries or drinks. The boba was undercooked and the pastry case didn't look appealing. Most things looked dry/stale like they'd been there a while which was surprising giving how many people were in the store. I tried their Tokyo Roll just to justify the 1 hr line but the cream seemed off and I didn't finish it. The potential is there though! A new bakery to add to the rotation - this replaced the former Manoa. We went during soft opening and there was a line out the door. There needs to be 2 cashiers - line is held up due to check out. Bread smelled delicious the moment you walk through the door and there are plenty of options. We tried several different assortments and everything was delicious, especially the salt bread loaf. We also tried a couple of drinks - wish the drinks were less sweet (more Asian style). Love misugaru and great to have a latte option but it was very sweet. Another bakery in Annandale, but definitely unlike the others. The atmosphere: Dessert 39 has a sleek chrome and silver theme with touches of greenery throughout the space. It is much larger than many other bakeries in the area and offers a good amount of seating. Parking is limited! The food: They offer unique pastries you would be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. I loved the custard-filled churro and the Green Tea Roll Cake. The roll cake had such a light, airy cream that made it addictive. I just wish there had been a better cake-to-cream ratio, since most of it was cream. The croissant was delicious, flaky, and perfect for sharing. I also ordered the Strawberry Yogurt Latte, which was refreshing and delicious. The service: Since I visited during the soft opening phase, it was extremely packed. The line took about 30 minutes, and we spent another 45 minutes inside between checkout and waiting for our drinks. I would definitely come back once the lines calm down. Stopped by on a Saturday evening after dinner and had a really enjoyable experience. I'd been wanting to try their famous salt breads for a while. When we first arrived, they had already sold out of most of their breads and only had a few cakes and pastries left. Luckily, after waiting just a couple of minutes, a staff member brought out a fresh batch, so we were able to try them warm. They recently introduced a U.S. menu, and I really enjoyed the blueberry yogurt smoothie!! It was refreshing without being overly sweet. We also ordered the bingsu, which was the perfect size to share between 2-3 people and reasonably priced. The strawberries tasted fresh, and the combination of flavors was light, balanced, and refreshing. I'd definitely like to come back to explore more of the menu. Great dessert from a Korean cafe/bakery. Very chic interior design and they have an inflatable bunny which attracts a lot of young kids. There is a variety of pastries and cakes and coffee/tea for purchase. We go to tous les jours nearby a lot so I think they are pretty much complementary. I have been here like 5+ times since I live in the area. The space is open, modern, and very pleasing! There's space to line up for cashier, and seats along the wall and the back for studying/talking. Lots of outlets for charging and great sunlight. Exceptional service! Really enjoyed visiting Dessert 39 for the first time. The location is really easy to get to and has parking outside. The decorations are very plant forward. It's tropical vibe inside that is relaxing. It's very spacious with lots of seating. The bathrooms are also clean and bright. There are lots of savory and sweet options available that looked great. But we tried their cake slices, a bingsu, and drinks. Super great drinks! There are very fun and I loved the cups. There are so many options I am looking forward to trying their other drinks. Got the chocolate pong latte. Very delcious if you are in a chocolately milk vibe which happens to be my go too choice. The bingsu was on point and honestly a great price for what you get. Okay, went in the we were wowed by it! My sister said it felt like ktown la and it tasted like it too! Churro was AMAZING!! We got the hotdog and it was little sugary well bc it's covered in sugar hahaha! But still very good!! We had 3 drinks- mango yogurt smoothie, black sesame latte, and grape are. Smoothie was the best, black sesame latte could use little more stronger black sesame flavor and grape add tasted like grape aid but sparkling. My friend sent me a reel on Instagram about this Cafe in Annadale, Virginia called Dessert 39. Apparently, this is the first one outside of South Korea. So we decided to try them out. I had used Google Maps to see where it was located at. Since Google Maps doesn't update photos frequently, referring original spot was called Manoa. The location could be considered in the cut because of you're not paying attention, you could miss it. So when we get there, the decorum was bright and welcoming. They had quite a few customers too. We gazed upon the pastries that they had, which wasn't a lot at that time, probably because they were busy earlier. So we found three pastries to try and got a Strawberry Yogurt Latte and a Peach Green Apple Iced Tea to try out. The three pastries were a vegan croquette, a chocolate and pistachio cream filled donut, and one that was twisted. The drinks were good with a 60 % sweet level as their default. I came late at night on a Friday, and there were still some people here. I got the strawberry bingsoo to share. Considering it wasn't packed, I felt like it took a little while for the bingsoo to come out. It wasn't a bad price (around $10), but it was a little smaller than other bingsoos I have had. I thought it was pretty good, but I wish it was a little creamier. The snow was a little icy for my liking, and there wasn't a ton of ice cream on top, but it tasted pretty good. The strawberries were super ripe. The strawberry syrup on top was a tad artificial tasting but it added some sweetness to it. On first glance, I thought the place looked nice. It is spacious and has a lot of seating. There is a pretty good selection of pastries, even late at night, but they looked a little stale and dry. I'm not sure if it is because they were from earlier in the day, or if that is just how they look. They have some interesting items to select from though, including salt bread.
