They offer a variety of coffee and tea options and color code the flavor intensity. I chose the honey matcha oat milk latte with lavender. It didn't taste like lavender but the latte itself was good. Seating is available inside and outside. Interior and exterior areas were clean and quiet. The cafe seems like a nice spot to work or meet with friends. Staff here are super friendly and I absolutely love their menu. They put how strong each drink is on their menu by color to help you out. I ordered their specialty pumpkin coffee and the main reason I was disappointed is that it tasted nothing like pumpkin. I don't know if they forgot the pumps but there was no pumpkin flavor at all. I visit Cafe Moka a few times a month. It's a short walk away from where I live and I really enjoy the atmosphere because of the bright sunlight that shines in through the large windows as well as the fun decor that gives off small-town coffee shop vibes. Here, you can enjoy great coffee and other beverages for about the same prices you'd pay at Starbucks. They offer seasonal specials which are usually unique and creative. On my last visit, I tried the autumn tea latte, and my typical coffee drink is any of their lattes (which usually aren't overly sweetened, which I appreciate) or if I have some extra time, a pour-over coffee. The employees are always friendly and quick to serve up the orders. This is a great place to get a little work done, do some reading or meet up with a friend. There's a little bit of outdoor seating right outside the shop but also a bigger turf area with surrounding tables and swinging benches just a few feet away. read more

Average quality coffee, terrible service and expensive. I've been here a few times, ordering my usual cortado. I like to drink my coffee in a proper cup (not paper) Every single time I ask for it, I'm either ignored or dismissed. This last time, the excuse was that they couldn't accommodate my request because they would be closing at 4.... I was there at 2 pm. Just pure laziness. Cute coffee shop with a relaxed vibe! It was busy when we were there so didn't get many pictures inside. They have a lot of seating considering the size of their location and have a few more spots outside to sit and enjoy your drink. They offer coffee espresso, teas, smoothies, and specials to pick from and offer snack items as well ( cookies, muffins, etc). We stuck with beverages this time. I go in there not knowing what I want and Landon just works his magic. He'll also gladly tell you the recipe to use when ordering in case he's not there/not the one taking your order. I've ordered something before and had it correctly guessed as a "Landon Creation." Do they pay this guy enough? Who knows, but if he's not in charge of the menu then I think that's a HUGE missed opportunity on their part... This place is (still) hands-down one of THE best places to get your coffee in Charlotte. To anyone who says otherwise, that's reflective of a personal problem on your part (or your feral kids..? No establishment should be okay with kids running amok). I said what I said. Ultimately, it's a cute, cozy place with great coffee that's perfect for those who are working (like me) or meeting up with friends. I was admittedly biased from the get-go because of the glorious décor - we think everything there would fit beautifully in our mid-century modern home - but I'm happy to say the coffee was top shelf. The vibe there is very chill, the baristas engaging and patient, and the coffee menu is helpfully organized by milk content, none to more. Because of the menu, I chose something other than my usual lattes and selected the "café con leche" instead, opting for my usual soy milk. Absolutely no bitterness, perfectly creamy (not sweet) as I like mine and exactly what I wanted on a chilly day. Even my husband's cortado, which is a stouter coffee drink than I prefer, was wonderfully smooth. Only complain: like everything in that shopping area, parking is a pill. Hardly their fault so no points off. If we lived closer to Waverly this would be my occasional writing haunt. Wanted to retry cafe Mika after a few unsavory times of going. This time around everything went well at first but began to fall down a little. The Drink: This is the good of the cafe. I tried the Flat white which has become one of my go to drinks for a cafe and I wasn't disappointed. With this being said the Flat White had a rich chocolaty note to the drink from the espresso beans they use. The addition of the well textured milk elevated this drink and a plus was the latte art on top! The Ambiance: One word to describe this: Loud. I stopped in to check out one of their drinks....and noticed that they had "Honey Green Tea", so ordered that. Well, the tea tasted pretty good, but just wasn't cold enough. Guess I should have run back in to ask for more ice? I thought the logo on their cup was really cute though (Tiger w/ MOKA printed in its stripes). The place had a very woodsy vibe (Rustic-Country?), and lotsa "Moka" merchandising on display. Not a very big place, and not many seatings, but there were plenty of tables and seating areas outside! Speaking of outside, I LOVE what they did to this place...with so many seating areas, and cool, mod structures/decor. Guess I could have given this place 4 stars (despite the cold tea)...except I'm totally turned off by reading other reviews mentioning their lack of mask policy (even during the mandate). I'm just glad I stopped in when the pandemic was easing down (and have been double vaccinated). If I stopped in during the height of the pandemic, and saw that none of the staff members were wearing a mask, I would have rated the place a 1. Service is always pretty great, we love the baristas at this location. The drinks can be hit or miss, unfortunately. I've had really good drinks that are prepared differently by each person , so not always consistent. Seating can be a little limited as well and it can get noisy, but still a nice spot to stop in that isn't your generic coffee shop. read more

How frustrated I was with this place! I came in for a coffee after my Uber order was canceled, It was right across the street from our hotel. The inside is total nostalgia I loved it! But the product here is awful. The first time I came In I was greeted with no customer service but I already knew what I wanted so wasn't much chat just ordered a toffee crunch latte with an extra shot and less ice ...until I said less ice and her response was rudely you know it will be less drink we WONT fill it...I told her that's fine this ain't my first time ordering a coffee before. Mind you I was the only one in here and after I paid I watched her walk up the the other girl making the espresso shots and tell her Don't fill her cup rudely again as if it was such a big issue. I patiently waited and she called my drink I picked it up and left. The drink tasted good nothing wrong. THE SECOND visit is what tore this review down to a 2 star. I came in right before we were getting on the road I walked inside and it was a different staff so again there was no one inside just me I walked inside and ordered another toffee crunch with extra shot and less ice he told me they don't do less ice and I nicely explained that I ordered it yesterday the same way.. he goes is that it? and I said yes I paid and waited patiently well I look over at the girl making my coffee and she's doing it so fast and it didn't look the same as yesterday and When she set it on the counter and called for my order I reconfirmed with her and she said yes so I grabbed it and left. This drink was way darker in color and no whip cream or toffee. Morning coffee ruined. The ambiance is very nice and cozy. The pathway to order and receive your drink is a little tight but doable. The downside for me was that they don't serve brewed coffee only espresso. I can deal with that BUT the espresso is a light roast making it very bitter and sour. Espresso is supposed to be the darkest level of roast and is traditionally nutty and smokey. That what comes to mind when I think espresso. Instead I'm drinking my coffee and getting very bitter and citrusy aftertaste. Not the way I like my coffee. Also they don't offer the heavy cream that I usually add to my coffee instead of half/half (to avoid sugar). Maybe it's unfair for me to expect my coffee the way I like it, but when things like this happen it forces me to rely on Starbucks. I hope this review helps coffee shops understand consumers a little better. Side note: I've experienced the same thing at other independent coffee shops (Sip & Sonder in Inglewood) and I don't know why there is a trend to only serve bitter espresso. There aren't many coffee spots in this area besides Starbucks, so Cafe Moka has a step up just for that reason. It's not a very cozy cafe but has fun decor. They have an extensive menu with a lot of mixed, iced drinks. I really like the frozen espresso latte! It's the perfect treat on a warm day. I'm not really drawn in by any of their other drinks. The staff here all appear to be high school students, so service isn't particularly good. They'll take your order and continue their conversations with each other the whole time. read more

5 stars for aesthetics. Everything is so cute and seems well thought out and loved! I found this shop on a 'List on Places to Study' so, I'd like to note the seating arrangements (couches, table settings for large groups) are more suited for social seatings then studying. (Also had issues with WiFi, described at end) I got a frozen latte with Lavender syrup added, it was VERY delicious! The texture of the drink was amazing (I love frozen Lattes). The taste of the latte was smooth and was not overwhelmingly sweet. Note: if you are vegan, you cannot change the milk for this drink. I gave 4 stars overall, because there was no working wifi, which ruined my experience. I came in, there were some ladies in line who were still deciding what to order, so I set up my things to study. There's a little frame on the bar/table I was sitting at with a visit etiquette: trash, ask barista for wi-fi, consider buying another drink during extended visits etc. So I order...ask first barista for the wifi- she gives me the password. I'm having trouble, but the line is nonstop! (But moving quickly, the baristas are fast!) I wait for the rush to end, head back up to double check the password and was then told 'it doesn't work on every device...they've been working on it for a while with no luck.' It just would have been nice to know the first time I asked. I also tried on 3 devices. Outside was more than 90 degrees and you have 3 little tables for 2. A place with two chairs and a small couch, And a little bar beside the window. Bathrooms are locked. So you need to ask for a code from any employee. And the place was dirty and packed. My friend paid $12,99 for a small plain black coffee and a muffin. I didn't know if I was in NY or Charlotte lol. Will not be returning back here. I came with the intention of sitting to work on my computer. The drink I got was fine but I went back up to the counter about five minutes later realizing I needed the wifi password. Stood there for ten minutes and could not get somebody to come to the counter. I also needed the code for the bathroom and the employees were no where to be found. I ended up leaving because after another 10 minutes at my table, I still couldn't find an employee. I'm disappointed in this place because it always looked very nice. read more

So bizarre - they close seating at 6 pm even though closing is at 8 pm. I was told this is the owner's policy so staff can clean tables and customers do not dirty them again. It's coffee. Loved this little shop. Location has some great indoor and outdoor seating. It's situated next to an open lawn space with benches and swings, perfect for enjoying a coffee al fresco! I got a gingerbread oatmilk latte and it was great. Good, smooth espresso, perfectly steamed milk, and nice holiday flavor without being too sweet. Prices are pretty consistent with all coffee shops. It hurts to give this review, it really does. My wife are local to the Waverly area and we are no stranger to cafe Moka. We have visited cafe Moka so many times in the past and have never had a bad experience, until last week. Upon arriving at cafe Moka we looked over the menu and proceeding to order. My wife has a lot of allergies and so asking questions about ingredients is important to her safety and health. When she asked what was in a particular smoothie/slushee the barista said that she "guessed" that that was what was in the slushee and didn't even mind to check and see if she was 100% correct. Usually people will check the ingredients for her, but this person just decided to "guess" the ingredients in this menu item. I ordered the nitro cold brew and the cold brew didn't taste like any cold brew I have ever had before.. it was like fizzy and flat. I think the cherry on top of all of this is that none of the people working at the coffee bar or register were wearing masks.. we are in a pandemic, and these employees weren't wearing masks.. not safe at all.. I think it will be a while until we return here. This one visit really put a bad taste in our mouth. read more
