It hurts to give this review, it really does. My wife are local to the Waverly area and we are no stranger to cafe Moka. We have visited cafe Moka so many times in the past and have never had a bad experience, until last week. Upon arriving at cafe Moka we looked over the menu and proceeding to order. My wife has a lot of allergies and so asking questions about ingredients is important to her safety and health. When she asked what was in a particular smoothie/slushee the barista said that she "guessed" that that was what was in the slushee and didn't even mind to check and see if she was 100% correct. Usually people will check the ingredients for her, but this person just decided to "guess" the ingredients in this menu item. I ordered the nitro cold brew and the cold brew didn't taste like any cold brew I have ever had before.. it was like fizzy and flat. I think the cherry on top of all of this is that none of the people working at the coffee bar or register were wearing masks.. we are in a pandemic, and these employees weren't wearing masks.. not safe at all.. I think it will be a while until we return here. This one visit really put a bad taste in our mouth. read more

Loved this little shop. Location has some great indoor and outdoor seating. It's situated next to an open lawn space with benches and swings, perfect for enjoying a coffee al fresco! I got a gingerbread oatmilk latte and it was great. Good, smooth espresso, perfectly steamed milk, and nice holiday flavor without being too sweet. Prices are pretty consistent with all coffee shops. Baristas were kind and fast! Only negative was that you need to ask for a code to use the bathroom. read more

This was a very quaint coffee shop at the Waverly. The decor is amazing. Very personalize and rustic. The staff was very friendly and extremely patient in answering all the questions we had. It wasn't like a typical coffee shop with loud music. Coffee was delicious and so smooth. The triple chocolate smoothie was also very good. It was my moms birthday and she ordered a hot latte, the girl at the register was rude and wouldn't remake my moms coffee when she wanted it in a coffee mug and not a to go cup and never asked my mom if she wanted it "for here or to go". They ADVERTISE on their instagram their hot lattes in a mug with a pretty design. She then proceeded to talk shit about us with her co worker and make faces. If i could leave 0 stars I would. The coffee shop itself is cute with nice deco. Their coffee is okay and cus timer service is ok, very basic. This coffee shop closes at 8 pm yesterday close indoor seating at 6 pm, even in the winter. It's obvious that staff are lazy and don't want to work. They let customers know that they close indoor seating at 5 oclock and then rush you out way before 6 pm. They stop servicing customers in regular cups around 3:30 and serve you from a plastic cup, " because they close indoor seating at 6 pm". Poor business practice. read more

Such a shame.. a cool and retro coffee cafe with NO Covid safety precautions and rude employees. None of the staff even including the manager and owner wear any mask or face covering. I work in the medical field and see people with oxygen tanks, asthma, and etc wearing masks so the fact that they can't even wear one for a couple hours while preparing food and drinks for other is mind blowing. read more

However the worst part of this place is the RUDE employees. They don't greet you at all not when you walk in and not when you order. Went up and ordered and the cashier acted like I was bothering her. She didn't say anything the entire transaction it was super cringe. The girls behind the counter as well didn't say anything when grabbing my coffee. Probably some of the worst service I've received while living in Charlotte. This is a wonderful little coffee shop with a great fall/winter vibe that looks like a giant cabin on the interior. I really appreciate the clean, fun logos and fonts on all their decorations throughout the store, in the form of vintage metal signs, pennants, and their own merchandise as well. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but it looked like they had a wide variety of some interesting blends. I personally had a delicious earl grey tea with lavender and vanilla! Waverly is a newer shopping center that I haven't been to often since I'm no longer in the area, but I'm glad that this coffee shop is here. I definitely wish this cafe was around when I was in HS (back when Starbucks was the only option). It's a nice place to catch up with a friend or even to get work done! read more

No one was wearing a mask when I went. The owner below states that some people have health reasons to not wear a mask. That's fine (and hope they are okay) but the segment of the population that is exempt from wearing masks is extremely rare. Even people with asthma are not exempt (they are exempt from N95 but not cloth or surgical). The chances that every single one of the employees at Moka have a qualifying reason to not a wear a mask is VERY unlikely. You should play the lottery if that's true. Complete disregard to the community and to your elderly customers who are at high risk and can't safely enjoy your coffee. I won't be returning. read more

I went in with my husband and daughter. My daughter and I made our selections quickly, but my husband asked the cashier for a recommendation. He simply pointed to the menu. My husband tried asking a few questions about some of the choices and the cashier just kept pointing to the menu. Absolutely no points awarded for helpful customer service. The drinks we got were ok, but we've had better. My husband also ordered a slice of the banana bread and it was very dry and crumbly. The business model for this place is cool for the sake of cool. Too cool for the room. Super douchey and judgmental to coffee drinkers. They serve a flavorful and unique blend of drinks which is $5 on a drink well spent. While they may be pricier than most coffee shops, it is worth a try for the yummy taste and would rather pay a little more for better quality. I finally got a chance to stop by this place, really cool set up, and delicious coffee. You may stay and enjoy your coffee in their indoor sitting area or outside facing the Waverly Park. I ordered the almond milk latte and was so good, fresh coffee flavor, just heavenly, yup I appreciate a good cup of coffee, and I'll def go back when I'm ready to circle and deal with the traffic. Speaking of it, the parking situation in Waverly ugh... how fed up are are you?! This place is hit or miss. And sometimes it's both at the same time. I was here yesterday. I ordered the caramel frozen latte which was good. Sweet and seems hard to screw up which is exactly why I ordered it. My husband bought some Nitro coffee monstrosity. I mean I'm not even sure what possessed him to believe a nitro coffee should EVER contain orange juice. Apparently he didn't see this part of the menu that explained that this drink contained orange juice. I saw what he ordered and was thinking really?! That sounds terrible but idk some people will drink OJ side by side with coffee and a full breakfast so idk. But he took a sip and nearly choked on it. I was like do you like it? And he was like No, this is the worst thing I've ever put in my mouth! I took a sip because you know morbid curiosity and omg, so unbelievably disgusting. I'm not sure what kind of hard drugs you need to be on to actually enjoy this. Maybe you need to be full blown Covid "where's my taste and smell" to enjoy this nitro drink. But it does explain this other drink he got from Cafe Mocha on another occasion. We couldn't figure out what it was then either. What we knew for sure was that it definitely wasn't a plain nitro coffee. Now we know, they throw other weird things into nitro coffees and they should never be ordered. I'm sure someone thought "ooo I'll be new and inventive. Pave the way for new coffee mixes! The Iron Chef of coffee!" This person needs to stop. Just stop right now. I can only imagine what Gordon Ramsey would say about their nitro concoctions. It's a crime against every coffee bean ever grown. Plus unless you're taste buds have died completely, all you're gonna do is either return the drink or walk right out the door and toss it in the trash. If I could give no stars, I would. My friend and I went there for a quick cup of coffee on our break and had a HORRIBLE experience. We sat at the " bar" for almost 20 minutes with ZERO acknowledgement. We finally asked for help, we had two separate orders. The girl who took the order was pleasant, however she struggled with the payment and in turn charged my card twice. I waved for attention to another associate and she said that the card was only run once when I clearly showed her my account that showed both charges. Then I asked her to see the manager and SHE was the manager. So we realized that the person who didn't give us any service was actually a manager. She then gave me cash back because she couldn't figure out how to refund my card ( some manager huh) ! Also, there was a pile of dishes on the counter, there were rags on the flooor. And on top of everything when our drinks were made they were cold and they called out for us to get them but we were sitting at the bar counter !
