I appreciate that's it's Derby Week and restaurants in Louisville are crowded but when a restaurant charges you a $100 per person non-refundable deposit just to make a reservation, then they keep you waiting like you're in a doctor's office until they can seat you - and the bar isn't serving drinks because they've also booked every seat at the bar so they can take $100 deposits for each of those seats as well - this is a restaurant I'll never come back to. This place is a joke. Part II - Finally got our table about 50 minutes after our reservation. Even though we booked a table, they seated us at the bar. The food, admittedly, was very good, but after getting our appetizers rather promptly, we were seated over an hour before our bartender - Mo - finally had to go to the kitchen to chase down our entrees. Then, after all of this, the couple next to us got their bill but hey hadn't deducted the $200 prepaid deposit. A different bartender tried to convince them that the $200 had been netted out but they weren't having it. Finally Mo came to the rescue again and got them a new bill that clearly deducted the deposit. We quickly asked him to get our bill as well since we knew he would make sure ours was corrected too. Makes me wonder how many other patrons didn't catch this mistake and ended up giving the restaurant another $100 per person. Oh, and when I went to the restroom, it was quickly obvious no one had checked on the restroom all night because the garbage can was overflowing with used paper towels all over the floor. +3 hours in all. Mo was the only employee we encountered who was both competent and understood customer service. What a treat! Mo was our server and bartender. We loved the bar cart he rolled out to make our smoked Old Fashioneds. He was knowledgeable and convinced me to try the Bully with a substitution as I don't like Campari. It was very good. Interior is very classy. A few days ago, I ordered the jumbo lump crab cake dinner with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Loved how the sauces were in separate containers, but I wish they were somehow labeled. The jumbo lump crab cakes were delicious with little breading. The remoulade sauce was the perfect compliment. The I thought ordering online was seamless and I loved that they set the pickup time when I ordered. I was a little surprised to find the area around the restaurant a bit run down and felt seedy, it felt very different from where I was staying just a few blocks away. Update: still no email or phone callas promised By the manager on duty- this shows how far they will go to lie and treat customers like trash My family took me out for my 50th birthday and we chose this restaurant based on reviews. We needed time to look at the menu as this was our first time here. At first the server was patient, my son said wow the Tomahawk is pricey the server gave a look of disgust instead of giving more background on it. I ordered a glass of Riesling and she said oh we don't sell that, I kindly showed her on the wine list she huffed and brought it back. She was consumed the entire night with a 4 top, even getting them water, boxing their meals, toasting them all while ignoring our table. Meanwhile we could not get refills, a guy gave us a box and we gracefully boxed items at the table. She took my calamari plate off, when there were still items to eat, I said I was not done and she went ahead and still took the plate. The guys finished first, so there were guy staff removing plates, when I was turned talking to my spouse they took my plate which still had food, I was so upset but still held composure. At the end it took 15 minutes to get a check, we were leaving a cash tip, she approached and said I noticed you did not tip on the card, REALLY you approach a guest about your tip after your lack of service meanwhile we were leaving a cash tip. We asked for the manaager, explained everything - and we paid for the entire meal with no issues. The manager still has yet to reach back out with what remediations, if any he was going to give. DO NOT GO HERE if you want to be judged by the way you are dressed or what you order. They do highly judge by just a look. read more

Was in Louisville, and it was a Friday during Lent, so Fish Friday. I sat at the bar on the server side, which only had two seats. I share that as I was kind of out of the way and alone which may be a cause by the slow and poor service. I had clam chowder which was okay. Food was killer... service was a tad slow! I will start off with the good, the ambience and layout of the restaurant is really great. Being able to see into the kitchen and treated with all the sites and associated smells is always something I enjoy especially in a higher end restaurant like this our server was really good, but I think she had too many tables because it did take excessively long to get our drinks and several items we ordered were forgotten and arrived later than others as a result. The food itself is excellent. All of our appetizers were prepared well and all of our main dishes were equally as exquisite. Had the service portion been on par with the food quality I would've certainly rated this place five stars. No, just no. Ridiculous pricing for what you get and the service was so poor. Ordered Shrimp Pesto Basil Linguini ($32.75) which arrived with only 5 small pieces of shrimp, unseasoned and without the cheese finish as described on the menu. Our server never came back to the table to see how the food was, so we asked the food runner for some condiments we needed and she acted like this was a problem. Finally walked up to the bar to order a drink since our server was absent. Got a glass of 6 oz of Doau wine that I was charged $25 for. Check with any other local restaurant and you'll see this is excessive. Will never go back or recommend Brenden's Catch to anyone. Nobody in our group of 4 will be back. This is a must do restaurant! Don't even hesitate just do it!!! This was by far the best food I had in Louisville and some of the best food I've had anywhere. It has a great location right on 4th Street where all the action is happening downtown. When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted very warmly and kindly, and felt extremely welcome. The interior decor is gorgeous and well appointed. They had a very large and nice bar area and I can imagine a happy hour there is amazing . Of course they had an extensive bourbon and wine selection. They also had very delicious. Specialty cocktails. I loved the bachelor in Paradise and the house special. old-fashioned. It was amazing. My server was Ross and he was absolutely phenomenal! Ross walked me through my entire meal journey and made excellent recommendations that I truly enjoyed it. Now let's get to the food. I started with the King crab in a bowl which Ross said put them on the map and I see why. Every single bite was absolutely delectable and melted in my mouth. It was like a flavor explosion. I then had the Chilean Seabass, which was so fresh that it tasted like it had come straight out of the ocean. I am so glad that I was able to get a chance to visit this gem and anytime I'm in the area I will return. There were also two members of management that stopped by the table to greet me with a smile and check on me to see if I was having an excellent dinner. I highly recommend and you should go too. This meal was so good! We were in Kentucky for our friend's birthday and he decided he wanted his birthday meal to be at a seafood and steakhouse. I'm always a bit weary of ordering seafood while I'm inland so I chose the 8 oz filet mignon with a side of mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and so tender! I started my meal with a caramel apple martini that in hindsight should have been a dessert drink. It was delicious but super sweet and took awhile to drink. I eventually swapped over to a vodka mule instead to go with dinner. My vegetarian boyfriend unsurprisingly had few options here. He ended up sharing a couple of appetizers with the table (whipped goat cheese bruschetta and herb and cheese filled mushrooms) and had the wedge salad without bacon as his main course. Looking at the menu now, I see there's a cauliflower steak option that wasn't there when we went but would be a great alternative to permanently add to the menu. A MUST eat if you're a guest at the Embassy. My husband and I decided to eat here after being invited by the manager while we were waiting for an uber on the sidewalk outside of the Embassy. We did not have reservations and were able to walk in around 8:30 PM and were quickly seated in a booth. The atmosphere feels cozy and upscale at the same time with a great ambiance. The menu features a wide variety of seafood and steak dishes. For starters we enjoyed a half dozen oysters and cocktails which were quickly brought to the table! We ended up needing to move to the bar to sit with some friends that ended up popping by to visit, the staff graciously accommodated our request. For entrees, I enjoyed the Seared Chilean Seabass and my husband had the Cornbread Crusted Salmon, the dishes came out to us very hot and fresh. They were also 10/10 on flavor and presented beautifully. Our bartender Mo was very attentive, you can tell he has a passion for handcrafted cocktails. He said that servers have to take a 19 page test before they're able to work here! WOW! They were very accomodating for my gluten allergy and I was able to easily navigate the menu. We like to try interesting appetizers and the Cauli-mari was AMAZING. We would order it again in a heartbeat. The ambiance was lovely and we were not rushed at all. The Best decision for a birthday dinner for my wife, worked out perfectly. We made an early evening reservation on a Saturday. We arrived 20 minutes early and the hostess seated right away, once at our table we were greeted by MJ (our server) and she took great care of us for the entire visit. Everything from cocktails to the Oysters and Pearls ordered for an appetizer, to the our Caesar Salads, our main courses all were flawlessly timed and executed. MJ reviewed the menu for us, explained the specials and offered which selections were her favorites, she was attentive throughout without being overbearing or pushy (her assistant was equally attentive, wished my wife a Happy Birthday and even sang Happy Brithday to her, very nice touch). Our main courses came out perfectly timed and from the Kansas City Strip with Seared Scallops on Pea Risotto as an add on (for me) to the Grilled Halibut w/Asparagus and Berries with a Jumbo Lump Crab Cake as an Add On for my wife, the quality of food, the cook, presentation and portion sizes were all well above average from other establishments. I haven't been here in years and have wanted to come back to see if it still lives up to the hype. We got the clam chowder to start and my husband thought it was the best in the city. Te calamari was good though standard with the exception of the ponzu, which I've never seen with calamari before so that was a nice touch. The sea bass was excellent, very light. The wife and I went for Valentine's Day this year and we ordered off the limited menu. The appetizer that had the mushrooms was fantastic and I highly recommend them. We also ordered the shrimp app and it was pretty good. We ordered the little tub of crab with butter in it that they said they are known for, It was good but for less than a cup of crab meat and butter, I would say pass on this $90 option. You could take the whole family out to Joe's crab shack on a weekday with better crab meat. The place was really nice and the service couldn't have been better. Now for the bad. The steaks we ordered were subpar. The wife bought the filet mignon, and it tasted very gritty and grainy, almost as if it had been frozen. I upgraded for the ribeye, which was pretty good, but still very bland. The steaks seemed to be good cuts of meat but very under-seasoned. I told the waitress it seemed like it had been an oven baked steaks because they were overcooked and had no crust on them. We are very versed in stakes and I can tell you that these were less than subpar. The appetizers the soup/salad were really good and the sides weren't bad, but the steaks were terrible. I really hope they learn how to change the way they cook steaks because it is not up to the $500 meal for two that we spent. It seemed like a very nice place with a chef limited by the kitchen. PS. The smoked old fashion was pretty good but the champagne included in the meal seemed cheap. I ate at Brendan's Catch 23 early in March 2025. The meal was excellent - Sea Scallops. The service was also excellent, and my coworkers and I really enjoyed our meal there. I paid the tab for my group, and left my credit card in the restaurant. I didn't realize it until I returned to my home airport and needed to pay for parking. yikes!
