Came here for my birthday for the fourth consecutive year! I just love to celebrate here. They make it feel so special. Huge shoutout to Bashad for making our night special. Tried the bone marrow for the first time tonight and it's now a must have. Can't go wrong with anything you order. Of course the environment is fabulous. Always love the music playing. Looking forward to our next dinner here. Valet parking for ease.

Today my wife decided to take me somewhere special. First impression is that it is a calm and classy pace where you enjoy views, food, drinks, and conversation. Anna our server was amazing. She was kind, knowledgeable, and very personable Texas Kisses:10/10 a must try.. perfectly seasoned with a little bit of kick. The sauce the bacon, the shrimp.. the mixture of everything was amazing. 16oz Ribeye (Akaushi Beef): 6/10.. the meat was kind of gamey if I am being honest and a bit tough. I got medium temp. It tasted like a regular steak and I did end up adding a little salt to it. The cut of meat was primarily fat. It wasn't all that great and it wasn't bad. Watermelon Margarita:10/10.. when I say this Margarita was amazing.. it was... it was not overpowered by the watermelon flavoring and was balanced. Perfect amount of alcohol and watermelon. This drink was very refreshing and they made the syrup from fresh ingredients. Loaded Mash Potatoes: 10/10.. seasoned well and the bacon bits was chefs kiss. I think adding the thick cut bacon was not for me but to each their own and it didn't take away from the flavor. The thick cut of bacon is optional. Overall this was a great experience and maybe I got the wrong cut of meat.

We had a wonderful experience at Brenner's Steakhouse on the Bayou for our Fathers Day celebration, and it truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance was beautiful and welcoming, but what really made the visit exceptional was the outstanding service. Eddie went above and beyond to ensure our first visit was memorable. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and incredibly accommodating throughout our meal. We had some specific dietary needs and preferences, and Eddie and the manager worked seamlessly with the kitchen to adjust the menu so that my boyfriend and I were comfortable and well taken care of. His attention to detail and genuine care made all the difference. It's rare to find service that feels both professional and personal, and Eddie and management struck that balance perfectly. They checked in at all the right moments, made thoughtful recommendations, and created an experience that felt special and effortless. We left feeling thoroughly impressed and grateful for such a great first experience. We will definitely be returning, thanks in large part to the exceptional service we received.

An unexpected hideaway smack dab in the middle of Houston. That is how I would describe Brenner's. I came here for a celebratory dinner and was unsure what to expect. What I got was exceptional service, setting and cuisine. The exterior is what you notice first, the impressive architecture, outdoor bar area and little gazebo in the gardens. The staff were extremely courteous and gave us a wonderful table, asking about lighting levels to make sure we were comfortable. Our server was very attentive and was always making sure to assist, and he gave excellent recommendations on food and beverages. I had the bang bang shrimp, the shrimp with risotto and mashed potatoes and they were exquisite! The shrimp were succulent and perfectly fried. The mashed potatoes were creamy and rich, while the shrimp and risotto paired well together and had a depth of flavor that was very enjoyable. I also drank the Fluffy cocktail that was pleasant and very aptly named. I had the 12 layer chocolate cake, though the menu was so extensive it was very hard to choose. The texture of the cake layers worked well with the frosting and was the perfect end to the meal! Our server told us about the lighted outdoor gazebo area, so after the meal we walked around and it was truly beautiful. A great experience!

Our server was great. The cocktails were really good. The lobster bisque needed a bit more flavor but had a lot of lobster in it for a bisque. Our entrees were pretty good. Meat was tender. Sides were decent. Overall, it's a place I'd go to for cocktails and ambiance over the food. The water features are nice and make it a tranquil place. Valet was a little chaotic but not horrible.

After our previous visit, where we had a very disappointing experience with our server, we decided to give this restaurant another chance--and I'm so glad we did. Tonight, our server, Mark, was absolutely fantastic. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great experience. Our drinks were never empty, he checked on us regularly without being overbearing, and he made excellent food and drink recommendations based on our preferences. The ambiance was wonderful as well. I also really appreciated seeing the managers walking around, checking on guests, and even helping run food to tables. That level of teamwork didn't go unnoticed. The food was outstanding. My husband had the New York strip, and I ordered the salmon. Everything was delicious, and we left completely satisfied (and very full!). This visit was the complete opposite of our last one. Mark completely turned our impression around and made up for the negative experience we had previously. A special thank you to Josh the manager for making this happen and to Mark for providing such exceptional service. He was truly at the top of his game, and because of this experience, we'll gladly be back!

Came here for birthday dinner. Food was really good and service was average. Our birthday celebrant drink and food came later than us. Odd. The place is really beautiful during the evening, it makes me want to come by during the day and see what it looks like. Especially, by the bayou.

Our May 2, 2026, book launch or "Week Minded" by Rod Branch at Brenner's Steakhouse on the Bayou was nothing short of exceptional. We hosted approximately 100 guests and took over the Blue Bar patio, creating an atmosphere that felt both elevated and intimate. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and the venue delivered on every level. With access to both the upstairs outdoor bar and a satellite bar on the lower patio, the flow of the event was seamless from start to finish. From the earliest stages of planning through execution, Dylan Hart, a manager and friend for many years, was outstanding. His calming approach accommodating, and completely solutions oriented. We were granted early access at 2:00 PM for a 4:30 event, which made all the difference in setting up a first-class experience. Von, who led the wait staff, was omnipresent in the best possible way. The service team operated with precision and professionalism. Drinks were crafted perfectly, delivered quickly, and presented beautifully. The appetizers were consistently warm, flavorful, and elegantly served. The boudin balls, served on skewers, were unforgettable (and dangerously good). Guest feedback was unanimous: the service, food, and overall experience exceeded expectations. What truly set the evening apart, however, was what happened next. As the event wound down and we landed just shy of our projected contract, the staff went above and beyond, setting up a long table and serving remaining guests a full, family-style steak dinner complete with sides and a wonderful Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, along with continued bar service. It was an unexpected and generous touch that elevated the entire evening. And then, just when we thought the experience couldn't improve further, it did. After hours of hosting and signing books, the last thing I was looking forward to was teardown. Without being asked, the staff carefully disassembled our décor, organized everything for easy removal, and even carried heavy boxes of books around to the front of the building to load into our vehicles--continually asking if there was anything else they could do. Who does that? Brenner's does. This was the ultimate in great service. It was intentional, thoughtful hospitality at a level you rarely see anymore. If you're considering a venue for a special event and want it executed flawlessly, this is the place. Call Dylan and tell him we said hi!

Kara took amazing care of us!! Super sweet & the food was amazing! My favorite steakhouse of all time! The ambience is beautiful as well an amazing restaurant would definitely be back 10/10

This place sits on the bayou with a beautiful view. There is plenty of outdoor seating. We sit at the bar on the patio. The bartender wasn't too friendly. Our drinks were okay. Nothing special to brag about. The food was exceptional. Everything was cooked perfectly! They gave us a free dessert for our anniversary. There is valet parking only. Definitely will be back to try brunch and happy hour.

Ask the Community - Brenner's on the Bayou

Is the patio/bar open seating or are reservations required? I don't see an option for this on the website.

The bar is open seating. Not sure about the patio though.

Do they do complimentary birthday desserts?

I believe they kindly provide you with a complimentary dessert for the special occasion if you inform them in advance that it is a birthday dinner.

    Are kids allowed?

As far as I know they are, however it is a very upscale restaurant and menu prices reflect that. I would also mention if they are at least 10 yrs or older and well behaved as to not disrupt other diners. Best bet call them to verify since policy's…

Can you bring an outside cake in?

Hello, Kaylee. No, we do not allow outside cakes. We have cakes available for purchase that feed 8-10 people for $50. Please give us a 72 hours' notice if you would like to order one for your reservation. Thank you.

With a reservation, can Brenner's accommodate a party of 20? We do not require a private room.

Hello Rhonda, please contact the restaurant directly to make any reservation or book events. Thank you!

    Are there gluten-free options available?

Does this restaurant' have a parking lot or is it valet only?

    There's is a parking lot

Is this only by reservation only or can we just walk up?

You don't have to have reservations, but I would highly suggest it. Especially on the weekends, it's very crowded and there will be a long wait without a reservation.

    Do they have vegan options?

Do yall have outdoor seating for dinner?

They do and it's so beautiful. Highly recommend outdoor seating.

Can you wear hats? What is the dress code?

You are not allowed to wear hats. They enforce a business casual attire.

Can I bring my own wine?

    No you can not.

Do they have private room and how much for that?

Yes, there are private rooms and prices vary.

What time does the patio bar close?

Hi, Jay! If you would please call our on-site staff at, 713.868.4444, they will be able to let you know!

What are the parking options? Is self-parking an option? Thanks.

Yes, self parking is an option. But I THINK valet is free ( valet tip probably expected though. )

Is the Blue Patio open on Friday night?

    Yes, even in bad weather

What is the best table for four people?

Hi Karen, Thanks for reaching out! You will be able to make a reservation directly from our…

    Are they open or flooded?

Not flooded but just tried to go as of 10/11/17 and they are under some reconstruction. Will open back up around thanksgiving time.

Something simple that should be an easy win. Unfortunately, everything leaned the same direction: either it was heavy, over-sauced, or overly garlicky. It tasted more like dressed-up frozen food than something thoughtfully prepared. And listen...I don't mind indulgent. But there still has to be balance and fresh food. Fresh like it was raw and delivered today, not fresh like fried in the last 15 mins. When everything is coated, covered, and competing, nothing actually stands out. The drinks didn't help either. They leaned hard on alcohol without much flavor behind them--more "this will get you there" than "this tastes good." Nothing was terrible. But nothing made me want another bite, either. And with seafood, that's kind of the whole point. The atmosphere is friendly, great music, and the service was very attentive. Even the presentation wasn't bad. It just wasn't enough. But at some point, you stop asking what's missing and just accept that it's not landing. I was still hungry so I went next door hoping for a better experience. I want to be clear: It's not bad. Time to Appetizers: 20 Minutes Time to Crawfish: 25 Minutes It's a solid branch from the main location in Bellaire, but they're missing some things. For example, the Bellaire location has the new Viet-Cajun flavor of sauce that hasn't debuted here yet (though you can DIY a mix). (Review is for July 2026 if they've updated since then) We got here at 6:05PM and got seated with no issues. Ordered the following: Combo #1 with extra corn and potatoes (3.5/5): Crawfish isn't in season, so don't be surprised at my low rating. It's still great and flavorful all around. Garlic Noodles with Shrimp (4/5): Still incredibly rich and buttery and garlicy and great for a palate cleanser. I'd skip the shrimp; you get eight pieces for $10 extra and that's not really worth it. Crawfish Beignets (4.5/5): Still a fantastic appetizer. Comes out hot, crispy, buttery, and is a really indulgence. 1 lb. Little Neck Clams (4.5/5): I liked these more than the crawfish tbh. It really does depend on what's in season. Very easy to eat, very flavorful. Service was generally good but our server seemed slammed; it took a long time to get water refills and to place extra orders (we got a second order of beignets to-go). Market price for crawfish is high and they're not in season, so don't be afraid to ask. The Combo #1 in July 2026 was $22. Overall, I'll probably be back during crawfish season especially because it's more convenient for me than the Bellaire location, but the Bellaire location has it beat for general atmosphere after the remodeling and much better options for mixes there.

But I see alot of folks enjoy this place, so they won't be hurting without my business. Try them out, you may love it.

Although I like the Gray St. location a little better taste wise for my dynamite shrimp, I think that the University Blvd location is easier to get a reservation. This is a really good choice for date night, a family event or a girl's night. Always nice, clean and bright. Surprisingly, the chicken Parm is one of my favorite dishes here. It's probably top two for me and I've had a lot of chicken Parm. The burger is my second choice; it is so good! One of my favorite appetizers is the Dynamite Shrimp and the salad that's under has a fire dressing that they should bottle. But overall, I've tried several things with the people I've gone with, and there's nothing bad on the menu. Definitely get a reservation in advance... This isn't really a place you can just walk in unless you're sitting at the bar and you've gotten there at a good time. Parking is valet at the gray street location. It's very hard to find regular parking there. You can find parking pretty easily at the University Blvd location. My only real complaint is the service is slow... And I've had different servers at different locations and they all don't really move with a sense of urgency. It takes them a while to get back to you so you can place an order... It takes a while for them to bring out your drinks. Overall, just slow service and that's why I deducted a star.

The cocktails were O.K, one margarita came out as tequila on the rocks, which was just ridiculous, and the staff have a basic idea of what goes into a mojito, but no real skill at making one. We were five appetizers into the experience when one of the hostesses sauntered over and loudly proclaimed, " Due to very busy, you dining experience is limited to 90 minutes" Yes, she spoke that way. She them proceeded to mean mug us for the next 45 minutes as we pushed past 90 minutes as a form of protest. We quit purchasing food, and drink and just sat there looking at her, daring her to come over and enforce her little power trip time limit. Never happened. The food was amazing, very well done. Thee waiter was amazing, he understood the mission and was tipped very well. But the bartenders, and the hostesses brough the experience down to a lowly one star.

The entire place feels clean, relaxed, and genuinely fun. Instead of picking through lukewarm trays under heat lamps, you order whatever you want and they bring it fresh straight to your table. The sushi is legitimately tasty and made-to-order. Don't sleep on the beef short ribs either--they've got a savory, slightly salty punch that hits just right with a side of rice. The drinks are solid, and the pricing hits that sweet spot: perfect for a casual, low-pressure date night where you both want to eat really well without any stiff, over-the-top pretense. Left completely full, had a great time, and already looking forward to going back

From soups, salads, sushi, tacos, shrimp fried rice, pink lady sushi, rice taco, crab lobster dip and chip. Avocado salad. All was well. One of the main flaws for me was only certain Sushi was included for the all you can eat. And it's not like you can mix a set. You will have a complete set of one type. I was hoping two to three individuals different sushi rolls. It would've been a bit better if they offer a set of three's or a bit of a variety. Which could allow me to sample more and select a full set. I love that I got some work done and order a shrimp fried rice. Be aware that what ever you do not complete you will be charged Al la carte.

Octopus tends to be quite chewy, but I think they cooked it perfectly. Our server was prompt in checking in on us, refilling our drinks, and clearing used dishes/utensils which I really appreciated. We went around 6 p.m. on a weekday, and they had a steady flow of business. It's a small restaurant with a small parking lot, but they do have an additional lot across the street. We were greeted right away and seated immediately. Our waiter was also tending the bar. He was incredibly friendly and working hard, but because he seemed to be juggling so much on his own, service was on the slower side. For the appetizer, we ordered the Crispy Fried Oysters & Brussels, and I got the redfish for my entrée. The Brussels sprouts were flash-fried perfectly, and I loved the sweetness of the chili honey glaze. The oysters had a nice crispy coating, but I found them to be a little bland. The redfish, though, was absolutely the star of the meal. I cleaned my plate. It was served with Hoppin' John and a lemon butter sauce. I had never heard of Hoppin' John before, but it's essentially a Southern rice-and-bean dish, and paired with that lemon butter, it was so flavorful. It complemented the fish perfectly.
