Had a nice dinner with friends during Houston Restaurants Week and their offerings for that menu were great. Everything was tasty and we had a very nice server. My only issue was we all felt we were rushed. There were hands reaching for our plates before we could finish our food (like several bites remaining!) so we had to stay alert if pausing or leaning back from plate or it would be snatched. I had just buttered a piece of bread, saving to soak up sauce with it and as I was distracted then reached for it, it was gone! Guess I didn't need those carbs anyway, ha. We didn't feel comfortable lingering for even a minute after paying the bill so went and walked around the beautiful property as the sun has set and it wasn't miserably hot. It's such a nice setting, one of the few places in Houston with such a natural view. The bar appeared to have a life of its own as we passed through. read more

We had an amazing shrimp cocktail as a starter and a bread basket, which you do have to ask for. A wonderful assortment of soft and hard breads with butter. A perfect selection and lots of it.! We weren't super hungry so my husband and I split a wedge salad. Large enough, definitely for two people to split crispy bacon, Wonderful, and tasty blue cheese dressing. The lettuce was perfect.! We chose to split the large fillet, medium rare and ask for blue cheese to be dropped on top of it when it came out of the skillet and it was perfect. Incredibly prepared and a great cut of meat perfectly tender and Juicy. My son had a ribeye and it was great besides we chose were brussels sprouts and potatoes au gratin the Brussels were crispy and tasty and the potatoes au gratin were some of the best I've ever had. This restaurant is a solid five and I definitely will return. I believe there's outdoor patio dining outside with a view of the river, but I'm not for sure. There is not necessarily address code for attire, I did call and they said it was business casual but SAN ANTONIO is a tourist area and there were a lot of people and nice shorts and sneakers and dress shirts with collars. I wouldn't stress too much about dressing up unless you really wanted to there was a little of everything. A couple of European beers on the menu and I had a wonderful glass of riesling, which is hard to find these days even at a high-end restaurant. Definitely will be back bravo for a great team. The manager came over and talked to us., I told him I was a food critic. He was thrilled with the review I was going to give, and I did explain to him that John made our experience even better and that he was part of the reason that we would return. Today my wife decided to take me somewhere special. First impression is that it is a calm and classy pace where you enjoy views, food, drinks, and conversation. Anna our server was amazing. She was kind, knowledgeable, and very personable Texas Kisses:10/10 a must try.. perfectly seasoned with a little bit of kick. The sauce the bacon, the shrimp.. the mixture of everything was amazing. 16oz Ribeye (Akaushi Beef): 6/10.. the meat was kind of gamey if I am being honest and a bit tough. I got medium temp. It tasted like a regular steak and I did end up adding a little salt to it. The cut of meat was primarily fat. It wasn't all that great and it wasn't bad. Watermelon Margarita:10/10.. when I say this Margarita was amazing.. it was... it was not overpowered by the watermelon flavoring and was balanced. Perfect amount of alcohol and watermelon. This drink was very refreshing and they made the syrup from fresh ingredients. Loaded Mash Potatoes: 10/10.. seasoned well and the bacon bits was chefs kiss. I think adding the thick cut bacon was not for me but to each their own and it didn't take away from the flavor. The thick cut of bacon is optional. We had a wonderful experience at Brenner's Steakhouse on the Bayou for our Fathers Day celebration, and it truly exceeded our expectations. An unexpected hideaway smack dab in the middle of Houston. That is how I would describe Brenner's. I came here for a celebratory dinner and was unsure what to expect. What I got was exceptional service, setting and cuisine. The exterior is what you notice first, the impressive architecture, outdoor bar area and little gazebo in the gardens. The staff were extremely courteous and gave us a wonderful table, asking about lighting levels to make sure we were comfortable. Our server was very attentive and was always making sure to assist, and he gave excellent recommendations on food and beverages. I had the bang bang shrimp, the shrimp with risotto and mashed potatoes and they were exquisite! The shrimp were succulent and perfectly fried. The mashed potatoes were creamy and rich, while the shrimp and risotto paired well together and had a depth of flavor that was very enjoyable. I also drank the Fluffy cocktail that was pleasant and very aptly named. I had the 12 layer chocolate cake, though the menu was so extensive it was very hard to choose. The texture of the cake layers worked well with the frosting and was the perfect end to the meal! Our server told us about the lighted outdoor gazebo area, so after the meal we walked around and it was truly beautiful. A great experience! read more

After our previous visit, where we had a very disappointing experience with our server, we decided to give this restaurant another chance--and I'm so glad we did. Tonight, our server, Mark, was absolutely fantastic. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great experience. Our drinks were never empty, he checked on us regularly without being overbearing, and he made excellent food and drink recommendations based on our preferences. The ambiance was wonderful as well. I also really appreciated seeing the managers walking around, checking on guests, and even helping run food to tables. That level of teamwork didn't go unnoticed. The food was outstanding. My husband had the New York strip, and I ordered the salmon. Everything was delicious, and we left completely satisfied (and very full!). This visit was the complete opposite of our last one. Mark completely turned our impression around and made up for the negative experience we had previously. Driving through the neighborhood is where the experience begins, mystery with beauty that leads you to the valet staff ready and eager to assist. Walking to the famous Blue Bar felt like the beginning of a wonderful dream, beautiful greenery, and a cute pond paired with a lovely water presentation. Off in the distance, a gazebo is provided for photo shoots. The bar was in a covered outside seating area, music at the right volume, the bartender was excellent in preparing wonderfully curated drinks to start off our evening. Our reservation time led us to be seated, only to be welcomed by our wonderful waitress, Kara!!! She provided an elegant experience, sharing her personal insights and experiences, she not only provided excellent service, she was part of the phenomenal experience. Our May 2, 2026, book launch or "Week Minded" by Rod Branch at Brenner's Steakhouse on the Bayou was nothing short of exceptional. We hosted approximately 100 guests and took over the Blue Bar patio, creating an atmosphere that felt both elevated and intimate. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and the venue delivered on every level. With access to both the upstairs outdoor bar and a satellite bar on the lower patio, the flow of the event was seamless from start to finish. From the earliest stages of planning through execution, Dylan Hart, a manager and friend for many years, was outstanding. His calming approach accommodating, and completely solutions oriented. We were granted early access at 2:00 PM for a 4:30 event, which made all the difference in setting up a first-class experience. Von, who led the wait staff, was omnipresent in the best possible way. The service team operated with precision and professionalism. Drinks were crafted perfectly, delivered quickly, and presented beautifully. The appetizers were consistently warm, flavorful, and elegantly served. The boudin balls, served on skewers, were unforgettable (and dangerously good). Guest feedback was unanimous: the service, food, and overall experience exceeded expectations. What truly set the evening apart, however, was what happened next. As the event wound down and we landed just shy of our projected contract, the staff went above and beyond, setting up a long table and serving remaining guests a full, family-style steak dinner complete with sides and a wonderful Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, along with continued bar service. It was an unexpected and generous touch that elevated the entire evening. And then, just when we thought the experience couldn't improve further, it did. After hours of hosting and signing books, the last thing I was looking forward to was teardown. Without being asked, the staff carefully disassembled our décor, organized everything for easy removal, and even carried heavy boxes of books around to the front of the building to load into our vehicles--continually asking if there was anything else they could do. Who does that? Brenner's does. This was the ultimate in great service. It was intentional, thoughtful hospitality at a level you rarely see anymore. But we were also given glass of prisoner. Since we were 6 people so the person who got the glass did not know what was ordered so she had the glass. Then food came v late. We had the most romantic evening at Brenner's on the Bayou!! The setting is absolutely beautiful. The lighting and atmosphere make it feel intimate, elegant, and perfect for special occasions. Brenner's is definitely one of my favorite steakhouse's. I've been here a handful of times, and every visit has been marked by amazing food and a beautiful atmosphere. The outdoor area is especially stunning, it's perfect for pictures and has a charming, serene vibe. This visit, I ordered the crispy duck confit with a side of herb and parmesan fries. The duck was served with a cherry demi-glaze sauce that gave a perfect balance of tartness and sweetness, complementing the crispy, smoky duck beautifully. The flavor was deeply savory and I loved it and would give it a solid 9.2/10. The fries were good, but nothing particularly memorable. A nice addition to the meal, but they didn't steal the show. Inside, the restaurant feels a bit tight, and there are stairs throughout the space. I was wearing heels and found it a little tricky to walk up and down, especially since the lighting was very dim. However, I really appreciated the purse hooks they provided at the table, it's a thoughtful touch for the ladies. There was a wedding happening during our visit, which may have contributed to the slower service. We waited around 35-40 minutes for our food, which felt longer than usual based on my past experiences here. That said, our waiter was kind and attentive, and the food more than made up for the delay. I also got to try a few bites from my friends' dishes: Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, and filet mignon. It's a beautiful restaurant with sprawling multi acre grounds, a wonderful dining area. It's definitely classic Houston food scene, in that it's been around a long time, and well known among residents. It gives old money style, but not stuffy. Great place to take scenic photos. Enjoy a nice night out. Both an upstairs & downstairs bar, lots of seating. Which I also visited before dinner. Parking - They focus on valet. But I think you can self park at some other lot further out. I didn't get all the details from the valet staff on where. If you pay with a card, there's an extra hidden fee on top of the valet charge. They also accept cash, no extra free for that. Food HRW - I started with the tortilla soup. It's a little watery for my taste, but fine. My main, I got the Pontchartrain. This was the best thing I ate, would recommend. I like that the portion was worth the price, and I didn't feel like I got slighted for the cost. My dessert I ordered the sundae. This is more deconstructed, easy ice cream and brownie. I left full. I had dinner at Brenner's on the Bayou with a couple of girlfriends during HRW 2024. I always have high expectations when I'm dining at a steakhouse like Brenner's. Unfortunately, this dining experience didn't quite meet my expectations. I'm not a fan of valet parking, but I didn't want to look for street parking. Valet is $5. They take cash or card. You pay when you pick up your car and they don't actually give you a valet ticket. I pointed to my car in the parking lot and the valet employee asked if he had the right key. It was really strange and not conducive to an upscale establishment. I was the first to arrive and I was a few minutes early. I sat at a table in the bar while I waited for my friends to arrive. The employees in the bar area were nice and asked if I needed water or wanted to order a drink while I waited. We had to wait 15 minutes before we could be seated. We were told that the majority of the party needed to be present. We had a party of three. Two of us arrived early and yet we still had to wait. Last I checked, 2 out of 3 is a majority. Eventually my friend talked to the hostess and she reluctantly brought us to our seats while we waited on our other friend to arrive. The decor of the restaurant is very beautiful and there are various dining rooms throughout the three floors. The patio is beautiful. The service was a bit off. The staff was nice, but there were a few things that happened that I wouldn't expect at a place like Brenner's. When I sat down, I didn't have a cloth napkin at my place setting. I asked the server (who did not introduce himself) for a napkin and he looked at me funny. He then asked if I wanted a cloth or paper napkin. I replied with "either is fine." Our server left to get a napkin, but he never actually brought one over. I started eating the bread while I waited. At one point, I thought about taking a cloth napkin from the next table because the server was no where to be found. Eventually we asked a different employee and she brought one to me. We wanted to order off of the HRW menu. When we sat down, we did not receive an HRW menu so we had to request one from the server. It sort of seemed like he wanted us to order off the regular menu. Beverages: I started with the Blackberry Gin Fizz. It was way too tart and I didn't care for it. I followed that with a glass of a Portuguese Red Blend and it paired nicely with the steak. 1st Course: I had the Beefsteak and it was really good. I didn't see in the description that it came with Blue Cheese (which I hate). It actually didn't overpower the flavor of the dish which was a relief. 2nd Course: I ordered steak (5 oz. center cut filet) cooked medium plus and it was delicious and tender. I added the maître de butter for an additional $3. The steak came with French green beans which were yummy. We ordered two additional sides: Mashed Potatoes and Creamed Spinach. I enjoyed them both, especially with the steak. 3rd Course: For dessert, I ordered the bread pudding. It was presented beautifully. The flavor wasn't bad, but it was a little underwhelming. I didn't have a horrible experience, but compared to dining experiences that I've had at other upscale steakhouses in Houston, it didn't quite measure up. read more

Wow, wow, wow! We had always drove past this place, but of course they were really could tell where it was. We heard a lot of great reviews and we finally decided to have a nice dinner on a random Thursday night and made sure to make reservations ahead of time. They have valet up at the front, which is typically expected from this type of restaurant. The day was beautiful so we were seated outdoors, under a patio. It was nice to be outdoors in the fresh air overlooking the Bayou. The gardens were so well-maintained and the garden area was so nice. We had the jumbo shrimp to start, and those have them probably the biggest shrimp I have ever seen! Love that they were cold and the horseradish was fresh and so was a cocktail sauce! We ordered our main entrées, which were the red snapper and filet mignon. They were divine! Everything was cooked to perfection. We had a side of brussels sprouts - which were roasted with a little tanginess to them, mashed potatoes- which were creamy and heavenly, and asparagus, wish was grilled to perfection. Hubby and I had a lovely time last night. This was my second time here and their service is as good as I remember from my last time here in 2019. Well trained staff who make you feel happy to be there. Food was fantastic. For starters we got their shrimp wrapped in bacon which was really good. My husband went for their Japanese wagyu that would just melt in the mouth (I just wish it could stay warm a little longer being on wood it does get cold fast), I went for their filet mignon with bone marrow which was cooked to perfection. For sides we enjoyed their mushrooms and au gratin. Dessert was their apple strudel which came recommended. All in all everything was excellent! read more
