I have to say that I am surprised at the intense anti reviews. I am assuming it is in different hands now. Brewbakers is by far my favorite spot for coffee and working Keene. Their variety of coffee, tea, and other drinks is very good. They also make a particularly good iced vanilla latte (one of my favorites). I've not yet had a bad espresso based drink. The egg sandwiches in the morning are fresh and delicious. My favorite is the egg, avocado, bacon, and pepper jack on some kind of multi-grain bread. Delish and always tastes fresh. The vibe is a little bit dive-y in the cute, coffee shop kind of way. Not too hipster angsty, but just right. I also never seem to have trouble getting a seat in the morning despite a small size and steady stream of customers. Credit cards only for orders $5 or more. Brewbakers is the friendliest coffee shop in Keene. They're coffee is fresh and they serve a variety of pastries and awesome bread. There is power at almost every table for your lappy and free wifi! Lamps at the table and chill atmosphere make this a great spot to read, write or catch up with friends. They has one large table in the back for spreading out your books, plans or having a meeting. I wish they had a few more larger tables, but the central location is great. Bruce, the owner is very friendly, a great baker and sells bread, coffee and pastries at the Keene Farmer's Market (+++). I saw this review and I had to say something about it. The Brewbakers that I am a regular to is not conducted in the manor that their guests have stated. So, I took one of the reviews and I have posted what the woman has said, and also added in after what I believe to be more accurate and up to date. I swear. Every time I am in here, its under a different owner. --This may be true which would mean you dont go there too often, and the current owner is great. C'mon owners! Its not hard to follow cafe-supply-etiquette. Step one: Do NOT provide mass produced store-bought pre-frozen baked goods; its may cost less, but your patrons are definitely going to notice. --All of their baked goods are brought in by locals/employees/are made in the cafe. They have a wide variety of baked goods. Ranging from Gluten free, to dairy free, to completely exotic. They Sell bacon oatmeal cookies.... who does that? Let me add in that they are delicious. As are their scones, and Croissants. Step two: Provide a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere; I cannot think of anyone I know who goes to a cafe hoping for bright lights. --The cafe here is warm in winters and cool in summer. Lighting is conducive to reading and so it the atmosphere. The music played there is great and sets the perfect mood. its a perfect place to go and study/read/relax/use your computer. Step three: Adjust your hours to the types of patrons you want/will receive based on your location. Just a hint: you're less than a quarter mile from a decent-sized liberal arts college. Think about it. --This coffee shop is open Early, and is one of the last things to close down on Main Street in Keene, nh. its a cafe, and closes down at 10 pm. Step four: Be picky with your staff. The more friendly, kind and interesting they are, the more likely your patrons will leave with a good impression; having two-dimensional, overconfident prats with no interest in coffee is SO not that way to go. --The staff there couldnt be more dynamic, with better knowledge of the coffee that they serve. Everyone there is outgoing and are memorable. Knowing everyone that comes through by not only their names but also by their order. Yep... simply put, I was SO disappointed with this Terra Nova dark roast I had. Either the kiddo behind the counter failed at making a pot of coffee, or the roasters are getting lazy. I'm going to for the first one: flavor and flavor profiles... learn 'em. And c'mon! If they roast their own coffee, why not offer french-pressed coffee for more money for those staying in the cafe? I snagged a pinch of my friend's muffin: it tasted more like eggy bread than it did a strawberry-what-have-you muffin. -- The main reason why I go to Brewbakers over other local cafes is that they actually do not burn their coffees. I haven not had the privilege to taste all of their many options, but of the ones that I have sampled, I am extremely please with the quality of their coffee. The person in this review has not had the same brewbakers that I am having, or she is used to dunkin donuts coffee. Brewbakers, I come back to Keene only once or twice a year. Anyone familiar with Sweetness 7 or even Spot in Buffalo will appreciate this dive cafe. It is warm, a bit small, and seemingly a bit hipster-esque but all in all it is a decent place. I got the iced coffee which, was cheap and served its purpose. I haven't had the food yet but the menu looks standard for this type of cafe, your sort of organic quasi- California fare rocking vegan options all the way to meat options. One of the things that surprises me about this place is that in most coffee shops like this, people usually come mostly for the coffee. At this place it seems, a large amount of people are ordering the food, which I suppose speaks to the quality of the food. This is not a bad place to get coffee, however there didn't seem to be a much food for a meal. Yes there is food there but the portions are a little small. Brewbakers used to be my favorite coffe shop in Keene. Keene just happens to be one of the most adorable little cities that I've ever seen and it's nestled in a valley in Southwestern, NH. Brewbakers is located on Main st. which is home to the Keene State College campus. I used to go here at least 3 times a week to study, hang out, waste time, drink mochas, read the journals, write in the journals, and occasionally enjoy a sandwich if I happened to have enough money to treat myself with an off campus meal. I have great memories at Brewbakers so I was deeply saddened to hear that the ownership has changed and the "soul" of brewbakers has been replaced with factory-produced muffins, paper plates, and non-recycling owners. There used to be a rotating gallery of local artwork featured on the walls. Apparently you will now be greeted with dull, store-bought paintings. They also got rid of the couch. What good is a cute little coffee shop without a comfy couch?? I'm giving Brewbakers 4 stars for what it used to be. I'm going to Keene in June for an alumni weekend and i'll visit brewbakers to re-evaluate. If anyone is still in Keene, write a review and tell me what's really going on there. read more

Brewbakers is a lovely little coffee shop in downtown Keene. They have the best tuna salad sandwhich in all of the East on their lunch menu! They also make Italian sodas that are terribly refreshing. Brewbakers has open mic night and even hosts some singers on special occasions. Sit in the window and watch the streets of Keene! read more

These guys do a pretty good job. Barista was fairly knowledgeable and had good technique. She did a great job texturing her milk, even ripped off a little Rosetta. Drink was made way too hot though. if your not going to use a thermometer please Don't scald it. Things they should consider. Um, espresso machine held together by duct tape? Makes me wonder how serious you are about coffee, and what kind of cleaning goes into your machine..... Two, why do people feel they need 30 different types of monin flavor syrups? Stuff is nasty, and if you want to establish yourself as the place to go for espresso, serving up a marshmallow fluff latte is not helping the cause. Overall, would return and recommend over the likes of dunkin and starbucks. read more

Went here once for lunch. Not a fan. The servers had that "I'm too cool to work here" attitude & it was dirty. There's a difference between dirt that's just been there since they cleaned up the night before & dirt that's been there for WEEKS, at least, & they had old dirt... Gross. Makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like if the place I'm supposed to eat is filthy. Maybe their breakfast foods are better but lunch was just so-so. There are SOOO many better places to eat lunch in Keene (Fritz's & Keene Fresh Salad are my two faves). Might go back for coffee but that'd be it. read more

we randomly ended up at brewbaker's over the weekend during our overnight stay at the local marriott. so glad we did, because their offerings were all wonderful. between the four of us (for breakfast) we had an apple pie, a raspberry almond muffin, a fruit scone, and a blueberry muffin along with two dark roasts and chamomile tea. the chicken pot pie and other savory tarts under the glass counter looked appealing. i will no doubt be dropping in again the next time we're in keene. read more

I'm 26yrs old and a local: This was the first place I ever had coffee and I haven't found anywhere since that comes close in comparison. They offer a variety of freshly brewed roasts, specialty drinks (i.e. lattes, americanos, etc), and have baked goods that will knock your socks off. If lunch is what you're looking for, there's loads of yummy options ranging from soups to salads to sandwiches. Highly recommend. read more

I have been going to Brewbakers regularly since it was a Mocha Joe's back in the late 80s, and I've always been please with the food and the service. I don't go as often as I used to since I moved out of town, but every time I come back everything is always very pleasant. They make an amazing breakfast burrito, maybe even the best breakfast burrito I've ever had, and their other sandwiches are tasty too. They have a nice selection of coffee and tea beverages; the cafe Mexicano is my favorite. It can get a little crowded, but that's to be expected, especially during the breakfast and lunch rushes. Also, if you have an NHPR membership card you can get 2 for 1 menu items valued at $5.50 or more. read more
