Coming here was more of a rude awakening than anything. My fiancée and I came here with my sister and friends for my sister's birthday breakfast. As soon as we walked in my fiancée wanted to leave because she said it smelled like dog paws. The rest of us didn't smell it and the diner looked kind of cute so we stayed. Bad choice. We all got hot coffees which is a pretty simple thing and it tasted horrible. Like sour and poison. I took one sip and not another and that says a lot. The bathroom smelled so disgusting I wanted to puke. All the food was bad. None of us finished it or even ate half. I got the spinach, goat cheese and mushroom omelette. The goat cheese in it was a powdery texture so after 2 bites I was grossed out and just done. Then we got the bill. Instead of an itemized bill, we got a slip that just said +extra on it, which isn't convenient whatsoever. We had a wonderful Sunday morning breakfast here. Service was great and everyone was really friendly. When we got there at 9 am they had a lot of table available. But, when we left at 10, there were people waiting for a table, so plan accordingly. I ordered a small hot chocolate and my friends each got the pumpkin spice latte. We all enjoyed our hot beverages. I would especially recommend the hot chocolate, it was just perfect. For our meal, we each got an omelette. I got the spinach, mushroom, onion and cheddar. It came with toast and homefries, both of which were great. They also have a hot sauce that I believe is made in house. I didn't try it. Short staffed establishment and you can tell the employees are overwhelmed and are trying their best to make it work with what they have. Our waiter was polite and was transparent with their delays and wait for food order. Their is no real set structure which I believe is causing more of a struggle. Date Visited: Dec 30th, 2020 Occasion: Husband's Birthday Brunch Dress Code: Casual Parking: We were lucky to find parking right across the restaurant. The location consists mainly of metered parking with the exception of certain days. Free parking on side streets. Ambiance / Cleanliness: Upon arrival, the restaurant was dark, not much of an ambiance. We were told to sit anywhere which didn't sit well with me (no pun intended). Customers are supposed to be socially distanced but it didn't look that way when I surveyed the room. Luckily I found a lone table all the way in the back of the restaurant sectioned off from everyone else. It was recently used so we had to wait for the server to clean it. The cleaning process was a disappointment. The server simply brought a rag from the kitchen and wiped down the table. I can only hope that he sprayed disinfectant on that rag before bringing out (Didn't seem thorough, especially during these times). Anyway we sat down and later got the menus. As I looked through the menu I couldn't focus and wanted to leave. I didn't feel the restaurant was clean. My husband convinced me to stay and so we did. Our server was polite and gave good recommendations. Food: Reasonably priced and the portions were generous. I ordered the French toast and my husband ordered the Omelet which came with home fries and toast. To my surprise the food was delicious. One of the best French toasts I've ever tasted (Top 5). The omelet was also done very well (Spinach, peppers, onions, turkey bacon, pepper jack cheese and mushrooms). Final Thoughts: I think the restaurant should adopt a better cleaning/disinfecting system and review their social distancing rules. First time I ate here the food was good and the service ok. Second time was very disappointing. After seeing how dirty it was and how crappy the customer service is, I had to walk out. I wasn't about to risk getting food poisoning. Also, on the way out, my sister slipped on a strawberry and almost broke her a$$.The place was dirty with trash all over the floor and near the food behind the counter. The floor and tables were extremely sticky. It just looked like a shit show. I mean if the health department were there they'd shut this place down. What a shame! The good: Let's start with the service which was fantastic. Their cappuccino is amazing, at first it seemed a little too strong but trust me and keep sipping, it definetely grows on you after a few sips. Also their pecan pie is delicious. The bad: The Chipotle Chicken sandwich was not good at all, the chicken had a rubbery texture, it felt like I was chewing on rubber it also had no taste and wasn't very spicy at all. I have been here a few times and have never had a bad experience with my meal. I will speak about my most recent dine in visit here during Sunday brunch. The inside of the restaurant is very warm and cozy. They have table seating and a couch. Picture yourself coming in here to read a book, drink some coffee, and enjoy the atmosphere. The coffee that we ordered was enormous! It was actually kind of comical because it seemed to be almost a pint of coffee! We didn't need to order refills to say the least... The only good thing about the place is that it is pet friendly. We sat outside, there was garbage under our table. They ran out of cream for coffee. Tables next to us were served before us. Our party of 6 got bunched up into a back corner where the table is propped up by crates because the table isn't tall enough to eat a meal on, which it still isn't. I went here back in July 18, 2021. The location was so nice! Place was packed but it was to be expected in a brunch place. The food was quite good here and I got one of their benedicts. I enjoyed their coffee. It was short-staffed at the time so I'm very understanding although I'll have to agree with a lot of the yelpers here about the service. As someone with a gluten allergy, it can be hard/pretty impossible to find gluten free pancakes or waffles.. especially ones that taste good and ESPECIALLY ones that are affordable! I paid $7.25 for a delicious stack of gluten free pancakes and they were the exact same price as the regular pancakes! No extra charge!! Their menu is also filled with a ton of other options for my gluten-free fam, including an incredible Mexican breakfast section. My boyfriend had the most delicious combination of corn tortillas, retried black beans, melted Monterrey, avo, salsa.. omg getting hungry again just thinking about it! We also had iced tea and coffee, both which were also delicious! There's something to be said for that because a lot of places don't put too much effort into these standard drinks. I saw a review that said they had poor customer service. Our waitress was incredibly sweet and made me feel like family, and we were here on a Saturday morning at prime breakfast hours. We were on our way to a vineyard and decided to stop for breakfast on the way and stumbled upon this gem! This is a cute restaurant that serves breakfast all day! I am definitely one of those people that thinks breakfast is good for anytime of the day. I ordered the eggs Benedict with lox which came with a side salad. It was delicious and fresh! Also if you are a hot sauce fanatic the owner makes it from scratch and she sells it in a mason jar! A little goes a long way with this it is the real deal spicy but delicious. The owner was very down to earth, friendly and came over to say hi and check on us. This small business is family owned and they make sure to make you feel welcome. First and last time I will be coming to this place. Me and my 2 friends came here because a lot of brunch places in the area are usually packed on a Sunday, and when we called ahead of time, they said it was only about a 15 minute wait. When we got there, the place was pretty busy, as expected. We waited just about 15 mins to get seated. We got our menus and ordered our drinks and food. The thing is that we only got our drinks and that was it. We waited 25 to 30 minutes for our food to come out, but nothing ever did. We saw food getting delivered to other tables that were seated after us, and the waiter that took our order was going around to other tables taking orders, but not once did he ever come back to our table. I understand the place was busy, but there's really no excuse as to why food was being served to tables seated after us. Also, the fact that our waiter couldn't just stop by our table, at least once, to give us an update on our order or tell us what was going on was unacceptable. My friend went up to the counter to tell them our food was never served and that we wanted to just pay for the drinks and leave. They were kind enough to give us the drinks for free, but they still never even explained what even happened, which makes me believe they just completely forgot about our order. We were coming to the area to meet friends and thought we would stop here for breakfast. We weren't disappointed. We arrived at a good time as we were seated right away. My wife ordered the # 4 omelet (zucchini, mushroom, onions & brie) with home fries. I went healthy (just a little) with the #14 omelet (prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted peppers & black olives) the healthy part comes with substituting egg whites and having fresh fruit as the side. It seems to be a popular place on Main Street for locals on a lazy Sunday morning, people come after soccer practice and sit outside on a beautiful morning. Prices are very reasonable, the service was excellent and we left with a good morning jolt and full bellies. When I paid the check I actually noticed another table had ordered the French Toast which would have made me want have a nap with the portion size if I had eaten it. I came here with high expectations but was disappointed. I frequent Metuchen downtown often and I am alway happy with my experience ...but this was the opposite. The service was poor and the food was worse. They never checked back to see if the order was made correctly or how the food was. The potatoes were cold, coffee was made incorrectly, toast arrived not buttered, etc... (the list goes on). The server seemed annoyed when I asked for more water (which I never got). Once we paid they charged us a 4% fee, which wasn't listed on the menu. When asked about the fee they became hostile and irritated when all we wanted was an explanation as to why our card was charged more than was listed on the check. If you're looking for brunch or coffee or anything good look elsewhere. read more
