Seven of us crawled out of a convention hall and made our way down South Broadway. We had spent the better part of a week speaking in the specialized, high-altitude jargon of modern educators, and our brains had turned to a substance resembling lukewarm oatmeal. Denver had been baking under a relentless sun all week, but by Tuesday night, the universe repented. A cool breeze moved across the tiny outdoor patio like a formal apology from the atmosphere. The inside of Adrift is a total, unapologetic capitulation to the tiki gods. There is no half-heartedness here. It is a full-throttle environment of tropical greenery, bamboo, and high-proof rum. Naturally, in such surroundings we ordered drinks to stop the psychic bleeding. My eyes landed on a cocktail called The Adrift. The menu warned that it carried a strict limit of two per person, that the ingredients were protected by a non-disclosure agreement, and it featured two tiny skulls drawn next to the name. When a piece of paper warns you that a liquid is a state secret and might compromise your motor skills, it is your duty as a curious mammal to order it. It arrived in a heavy ceramic mug buried under enough foliage to hide a small sniper. It tasted marvelous and dangerously smooth, the sort of beverage that politely informs your frontal lobe that it is no longer in charge of the evening. A coworker ordered a classic Mai Tai, which only had one skull on the menu, a cautious, low-stakes life choice. She took a sip and made the exact face a person makes when they discover their pockets have been picked. Our server, who was hyper-alert to human discomfort, pounced instantly. Instead of hiding behind the ice machine, the bartender actually walked out to our patio table a few minutes later. She explained she had tasted the pour and realized the orange liqueur had been completely left out of the build. She apologized like a real person who had made a real mistake, and fixed it immediately. In a world where most businesses spend millions trying to convince you that their errors are actually your fault, this level of raw, unprompted honesty was impressive. We ordered a small mountain of plates to absorb the alcohol: Hawaiian mac salad, Volcano Fries, Spam musubi, and crab rangoons. This is communal, heavy, satisfying food meant to be stolen off your neighbor's plate while they aren't looking. For the main act, I had the Pirate Smash burger, which hit that strange, perfect note of sweet and spicy without overcomplicating a simple sandwich. There are grander, more expensive dining rooms in Denver where people look very serious and eat tiny portions of expensive foam. But Adrift gives you exactly what you need when adulthood becomes too heavy a burden to carry: large drinks, good grease, a slight breeze, and a room full of people who have temporarily forgotten about their responsibilities. read more

Daiquiri (I'm a Hemingway slut for a daiquiri): Lime, cane sugar, rum Jungle Bird: Lime, pineapple, demerara, rum, Campari. Adrift: Had to have this one because it's "NDA" (non-disclosure agreement). It's the signature drink that's a blend of tropical fruits, spices, and undisclosed spirits. Mai Tai: Lime, almond, orange, mint, blend of rums. Like most tiki bars, they have various strengths of drinks. Some drinks are so strong you can only have two total. They also have an EXTREMELY long list of rums, agave, gin, brandy, etc. So you could have them make anything as complex and off the menu as you want. They also have food: shrimp, fries, lobster Rangoons, spam musubi, cucumber salad, Hawaiian Mac salad, Hawaiian rolls. So perfect bar/snack food to share. Service is perfect. Four stars for the food and general atmosphere. This place can make a proper tiki drink. They use really interesting rums and balance the drink so they're not overly sweet. If I could separately rate the food, I would give it a 0. It is objectively atrocious and had our server (Will) not been so sweet, I would have sent the food back. The food came out within 3 minutes of our order, so we knew it was microwaved. The garlic noodles were bitter and had an offer flavor and we barely ate them. The chicken plate was the smallest piece of dry, overcooked chicken breast, wayyyy too much rice, 2 sad and dry rings of pineapple (honestly, out of the can would have been way better), and an undressed slaw. it was $23 and even at $15, it would still have been overpriced. The spam musubi was decent but honestly, I can't imagine how you could mess it up. We may come back for the drinks but we absolutely will not order any food. read more

Thanks Adrift for a great Mother's Day dinner. Complete with fresh flower orchid lei we thoroughly enjoyed all of the tropical and signature drinks. We really loved the Poke nachos and salmon dish the best. The service was great. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. Also it was nice to talk to management about upcoming events. It was not busy when we got there but they were super busy after a couple of hours. I've tried to do Dry January every year for the past five years and never make it very far. After visiting Adrift Tiki Bar, I'm convinced the problem isn't me, it's the lack of good low and no alcohol cocktail programs around town. Adrift absolutely gets it. Their no alcohol cocktails are just as thoughtful, balanced, and well presented as their alcoholic ones, which made the experience feel intentional instead of like an afterthought. I tried several drinks, including their no alcohol Mai Tai, Painkiller, and a few tropical forward options, and every single one was well balanced and flavorful. Nothing felt overly sweet or flat. The Anchored Tides in particular stood out with a bold, bitter profile that still felt refreshing. The food was also solid. The spam musubi and wings were both really well done and paired nicely with the drinks. The space is fun, vibey, and welcoming, especially if you're not drinking and still want to feel included. When you step through those doors you are transported to another world entirely. It is a tropical paradise....honestly feels like you are somewhere by a beach, not landlocked CO. The sauces for both contained gluten, but they brought out substitutes that were GF which I appreciated. I can't help how much I love a good tiki bar, and Adrift hits just the tropical note! I've been here a few times at this point, and the drinks and bites never disappoint. The bartenders here really know what they are doing and do all the tiki classics right, as well as changing things up with their own concoctions. They have a pretty decent happy hour, too, including mai tais, painkillers, and a few others featured at a few bucks off. The food is pretty solid as well. We tend to stick to a few small bites, so things like the coconut shrimp and musubi are always in order. The vibe is moody tiki oasis in a small intimate space. Adrift made my birthday so special! I was lucky enough to attend a Yelp Elite event a few years back and I decided to spend my birthday dinner here this year. I went online and made my reservation thru OpenTable. Parking is going to be on Broadway at paid spaces or the surrounding area. The parking is hard to come by. Arrived right at restaurant opening, 4pm. Led directly to my table. The theme was still Halloween which was so fun. They had black and white movies playing on their big screen , fun spooky music playing. Spooky Tiki drinks were being offered on the menus still. They ran out of a certain shot and they gave me an alternate one on the house for a birthday treat! Ordered several shareable plates and the manager came over and said they were sorry about the longer wait for those to come out of the kitchen , didn't really notice any time wait and just thanked them for that. Our server Bill ...the vampire, LOL actually he was dressed as Oroville Peck, he was amazing the entire time. We inquired about an order we placed and he was very sorry that he forgot to put one item in and they took that off our total as well. They normally charge if you bring your own birthday celebration treats and the manager didn't charge us for that. I brought cupcakes as I was so particular about these treats and wanting to have one on my birthday and she didn't mind one bit. All of the food was yummy and we had one guest in our party who was able to order vegetarian food and have a mocktail as they are sober and still wanted a tiki drink. Adrift really cares about giving patrons the best experience, they were sorry about the items coming out late and one being forgotten that they gave our table complimentary shots and even took note that one of our guests didn't drink and gave them an alcohol free shot of a tiki mix. The tiki vibes are on point with the decor, drinks were 10/10 and pretty strong depending on what you get so you get your money's worth. I got a Mai Tai and a Guyaba Cooler - both great and made me wish I was on an island. I thought the prices for the drinks were pretty reasonable compared to other tiki spots but they do pack it with ice. The one thing I will say the food was OK, we had eaten before and I was glad we did. A tiny spam musubi for $7?!??! They don't even sell 1 of those in Hawaii for that much! $20 poke nachos were OK - very heavy on the sauce and maybe like 8-9 poke cubes. Ever since our last trip to Hawaii, my husband has been on a tropical drink kick and blasting Tiki Bar playlists nonstop. Clearly, this guy needs to go to a tiki bar, so we went to Adrift on a recent date. It's amazing how calm and relaxing it is inside, especially with the busyness of Broadway just outside its doors. My husband ordered the Mai Tai, which was STRONG. What he likes about this place is that the drinks are not watered down at all. I ordered the non-alcoholic Blue Hawaiian. It was fine. The food is pretty standard bar quality food, if you know what I mean. Poke nachos were fine, and the coconut shrimp was a solid choice. Definitely skip the cucumber salad, though. I think somebody mistakenly put salt instead of sugar in it, because it was way too salty to eat. If you're dousing something in soy sauce, you don't need to add salt as well. All in all, it was a fun time. We'd probably check out other tiki bars in Denver before coming back, though. read more

3 years later, it's time to write another review for Adrift! I can't believe it's been that long since I visited. My tiki bar obsessed friend was in town, so this was the obvious choice. That and I knew there were tiki mugs to add to her collection. We made reservations for 9pm on a Friday night. Customer service here is notably fantastic. We felt well taken care of. If you're looking for a tiki bar to mess you up, this is the spot. I splurged on a 'Lost in the Ayame Arashi' because it had gin, plum liqueur, creme de violet, and ube powder. My friend got the 'Captain's Share of the Spoils" which was a treat. We ended our night with 'Ta Kill Ya Pain'. Everything was delicious, and I love how they calibrate booziness on their menu. I previously criticized the food at Adrift but didn't get any this time, so I wasn't able to compare. We ate dinner beforehand, which I would HIGHLY recommend doing if you're not getting dinner at the bar. Clearly their specialty is tiki drinks, so maybe stick with that. Also, take an Uber here. There is much to occupy the eye, both inside and out. For food, their menu is on the smaller side but seems to cater to a broad audience. My husband went with the ribs - yummy and a killer value. I landed on the chicken sandwich which was also ace. We ended with guava cheesecake - they nailed the flavor, but not my favorite texture. Service was attentive and they had a few table side cocktail experiences which looked fun. *Zero Proof Review: I am on a quest to find the best Zero Proof, Mocktail and N/A beverages in Colorado and partially sought out Adrift as I heard they had a decent mocktail menu. I was not disappointed! There were four tasty options to choose from; we opted for the Makani Hibiscus Spritz & Frozen Virgin Colada, both of which were delicious. My one recommendation would be to include n/a beer, wine, or bubbly to cater to a wider audience. TLDR; Adrift gets an A in my book and I'm looking forward to coming back - perhaps for their Spelling Bee or some other event to take advantage of their lovely outdoor space. read more

Came here for cocktails and apps. The cocktails were delicious and came in fun tiki glasses. The apps we got were mediocre but we didn't order entrees so perhaps those are better. Make sure to have a reservation as we didn't have one and sat in their covered patio which has no vibes and the heated lamps aren't enough to keep you from shivering on a cold night. We sat at the bar, Service was awful. The male bartender we had last night was cold. Barely talked or interacted with us. Very few staff seemed like they cared about creating repeat customers or cared if they got good reviews. They could have made a very huge tip off us but their customer service gave the feeling we werent good enough for their time. Had to ask for part of food order they forgot to bring out. We Overheard them complaining to co workers about other guests with food allergies saying why do they come to a place that has food they cant eat. Save that talk for break time away from guests. I was really excited to try this place for my nieces bday. We started with the Spam Musubi and Coconut Shrimp which were great. The drinks were fantastic - we tried the Coconut Margarita, chi Chi and some Grog drink all were great and strong. Will say the downside is the food took awhile.. I got the rice bowl and came out quickly and I had to eat alone for 20 min til everyone else's food came. My niece got the salad with tofu and my other guests shared the steak board. Everyone liked their food I just wish we all got at same time or closer together. I was shocked when it was almost 2 hrs by time we just finished eating and we were alerted we were on last call because another reservation was coming. This is a tiki bar that you will find on the outskirts of downtown Denver. You cannot miss the joint. They have 2 huge tikis out front. There is limited free street parking available within a reasonable walking distance. I was able to snag a spot in the front of the bar. The bar has tables, booths and seating at the full bar. The place is dimly lit and serves tropical favorite drinks and a light food menu. It has a chill and trendy vibe. Some of their food includes musubi, poke, hummus, wraps, and citrus beef salad. They shut the food down quite a bit earlier than they close, so I recommend getting your order in early. They do give you a warning before they do stop serving food. I ordered a Singapore Sling. The drinks come in tropical tiki glasses. I am not 100% certain, but I think they can be purchased. It took about 5 minutes to get my drink and to be honest it was OK. It was not as flavorful as drinks I normally get a tiki bars. It just did not have that sweet taste. The service was great, they welcomed me on my way in and thanked me on the way out. I think a 3.5 rating would be more appropriate, but for me, it is closer to a 3 than a 4. This spot has a lot of potential and I hope to give it another shot while I am in Denver. read more
