Iron Goddess Tea 75% Sweetness and Grass Jelly: This was really good since you can taste the tea without it being too strong/bitter. I feel like the sweetness level was good but I get hints of a sweet aftertaste so maybe I'll try 50% sweetness next time. The grass jelly went well with the Iron Goddess Milk Tea but they gave too much so I felt like I was eating a dessert more than drinking a milk tea. Assam With Oat Milk 100% Sweetness: We never had milk tea with oat milk before so this was the first time we tried it, and it just didn't taste right. Usually assam tea has a strong flavor but it didn't shine through this time. The drink had a more watery consistency than regular milk tea. Would not recommend it. Love the empress tea, something you won't find in other boba places. Personally not a HUGE pearls fan so I didn't get the boba, but the tea is very fragrant. Whenever I'm in the area I'll always get a cup. Personally I think the milk tea is a little watery, I think it's because of the milk here, In Taiwan it would be creamier. I asked the server's recommendation for the sweetness of the drink. She recommended 50% sweet. I liked that you can taste the earl grey flavor. There was no milk taste, and had a very watered down taste to the drink. Next time I would like to try 75% sweet. The boba was really good. I would come back for the boba. My friend got the era milk tea, and had thought the drink was also very watered down with no milk taste. They enjoyed the boba itself and the hint of coffee taste. My other friend enjoyed his Assam Milk tea. I actually really enjoyed it as well. He liked the crema which gave it more flavor. He got 50% sweet and less ice, felt that his drink was also watered down; but the crema gave it a creamy flavor that balanced the lack of milk. He would try this drink again but at 75% sweet. The place is simple - there are a few seats inside, but I've always just taken mine to go. I've also only gone at off times so never had to really wait - but to be honest i wouldn't say it's a place that deserves a long wait for overall. Don't get me wrong - the Boba and drinks here are tasty - but I would say only a specific few which is why I've opted the 4 stars instead of 3 - overall the tea flavor is a bit lighter than others. My go to is usually the Iron Goddess Crema with 50% sweet/ice which is a tasty Assam/Oolong combo and or the Era with crema which has a coffee tone to it. The others I've tried but they were either too light in flavor or just too floral overall for me personally. We went to lake Elizabeth for a walk and it was cold we decided to get some warm tea after and stumbled upon this place. I was not sure about how good it is by the name. But when we went in, it does look like a legit place for tea. They have display explaining the difference between the tea. I never heard of Assam tea but ordered it based on the description on the display. It did not disappoint. Many bubble tea places have invented so many different flavors, even they taste good but they no longer taste like tea. I appreciate a good cup of milk tea that tastes like milk tea. After I took my daughter grocery shopping, I brought her here to buy a few drinks. We arrived before the store was open for the day so we waited patiently in the car. As soon as the store opened at 11:30am, there were already 4 people ahead of me. We ordered empress milk tea, era milk tea and retro milk tea (add boba, half sugar & half ice). Been to Brian black tea 3 times and it has never failed me. Each time, I never had to wait too long and the workers are super friendly. If you have any questions, they are knowledgeable and will explain each tea. The store is slightly small, so not the best place to sit down to catch up with friends. It's more of a "pick up and go" kind of place I always get the iron goddess black milk tea and the empress black milk tea. The tea is not sweet, but very smooth. The tea is high quality, and it has a nice fragrance. I am not a huge fan of their boba (it's very soft), but that's just my own preference. My boyfriend loves the boba here. I was pleased with the way Brian Black Tea made their Assam Milk Tea because it reminded me of my experience at Chun Shui Tang (origin of boba drinks), when I was in Taiwan a few years ago. The tea quality here is actually really good! Very comparable to the boba shops I have tried in the San Gabriel Valley, and I feel like that is hard to find in the San Jose area lol. I tried the Assam Black Tea here, very simple and standard to be able to tell that quality of tea they use. The boba could have been better in terms of sweetness though. The chewiness is on point, but could use more brown sugar for it to be more sweet! I normally get my drinks less sweet because a lot of boba shops have their boba really sweet, so I figured it would be more balanced out. So they sell 7 different black teas in various options: just tea, with milk, with crema. The Light Black tea can't be made with milk for some reason. Two toppings only: boba (+$0.50) or crema (+$1.25). They do have some special drinks. I got a large ceylon milk tea with no ice, no sugar and boba. To be honest, I don't recall if it was still too sweet even with no sugar. The boba was ok. The tea was definitely of high quality and I felt the caffeine in it as I am sensitive to caffeine which is a good thing! The one thing I didn't like was that the milk tea felt like I was drinking water. You know that mouth feel of creamy milk in tea. I wanted that. Maybe their crema would lead to what I wanted and I'll have to try it when we go next time. I spotted this boba store a couple weeks ago and filed it away in the back of my mind to try when I was in the area again. One windy weekend, we found ourselves back here and went inside for some respite! It isn't super busy and there are a few tables for you to sit around at and chat with friends. There is a constant flow of customers though, so that's something to keep in mind. The atmosphere is otherwise pretty standard for a boba shop and could be cozier. I ordered one of the winter specials, hot ginger jujube milk tea (热黑糖红枣姜奶茶) which is hot era milk tea mixed with black sugar, ginger and jujube honey. It was perfect for the blustery weather outside and the gingery kick really hit the spot. I ordered 25% sweetness but felt I could have gone down another notch since I hadn't realized that the jujube was jujube honey. I'll need to go back to try their other milk tea types and really like that they have many different types of tea leaves to choose from. TL;DR = Another decent option for tea/milk tea/boba. Worth trying but not worth waiting 30 min+ for. [[ Some Notes/Tips ]] 1.) What separates this place out is the focus on their teas. Overall tastes pretty high quality but nothing mind-blowing. 2.) Sweetness level definitely should be adjusted higher than what you would normally would get elsewhere. My normal ratio at other places is 50% sugar / 50% ice but I think here you should get 75% sugar and above. 3.) I find it odd that they cover up their drinks so you can't see what's inside. I prefer it clear so I can see the boba but I guess that's the aesthetic they want to go for. [[ Drinks we got ]] Iron Goddess Milk Tea with Boba (75% sugar / 50% ice) = Thought this tasted a bit bland for my liking. Will probably up this to 100% sugar next time. Empress Tea Milk (50% sugar / 25% ice) = This was my favorite drink out of the two due to the floral aftertaste they mention in their description. I would get this again. read more

Teas are good but nothing extraordinary. It's unique because it's black tea only but that means the menu fees a bit more limited if you're someone who likes fruit teas and other types of drinks. I definitely prefer black tea over other teas so the limited selection isn't a con for me, but after I tried the entire tea selection, my go tos would have to be the Era and Iron Goddess. I wouldn't get the crema... just tea or milk tea. I recommend 75% sweet if you like your drinks between 30-50% sweet at other boba shops. It's not a place I'm craving to come back to regularly, hence the 4 star review. It was frustrating to wait in line when it just opened up, since the drinks are not worth more than 10-15 min wait. We have been trying to find a great quality boba place and we've found it! Now I'm not sure we're going to go anywhere else. You can truly taste the tea instead of just tasting a bunch of milk and being super creamy and sweet. If you like all the different frills and types of boba, this place may not be for you. They focus on the tea. The only thing that was odd was that their cups aren't see through. It was surprisingly weird when I couldn't see my drink and the boba inside. haha. The plastic cover seemed to be a different material too because we struggled getting the straw through. Super minor things. The staff was very nice too. Definitely will be coming back anytime we've got a boba craving. read more
