This would've been a two if I didn't enjoy their popcorn chicken so much. The good: their popcorn chicken - decent portion with great flavor and texture, although they could've done a better job of spreading out the spicy seasoning. The questionable - everything else. For drinks we got a lychee & watermelon green tea with boba and a creme brulee Thai tea with boba. The boba was too soft for my liking and didn't have much flavor. Both drinks looked much better in the pictures than in person where they, frankly, looked like a hot mess. First drink was fine...not bad...not good. Couldn't taste any Thai tea in the second drink and the creme brulee swirl was nonexistent. The thing that made me determined to write a review though was when we got our popcorn chicken and I was looking for the wood skewers to eat it with. I asked the cashier if the wood skewers in the front were clean to which he replied, "I think so" and went about his business. Went to Ume Tea on a sunday evening. There was constant foot traffic in here, mostly teenagers. The decor is well, PINK. And adorned with a giant stuffed bunny outside. It's certainly not my aesthetic, but I guess it caters to kids and teens. Tried couple of teas (watermelon and passionfruit, strawberry and matcha) and popcorn chicken. What I loved about the boba tea was the actual pieces of watermelon - tea and ingredients were fresh and tasty! Popcorn chicken was okayish- it was kind of soggy and was a bit stale. I might come back to try out some of their mango based drinks, which seem popular. One of the observations I had was the staff wasn't very good at communication and seemed a little preoccupied (maybe it was the influx of orders). I had particularly ordered my tea with boba. On getting the order, I told the staff it was missing boba. He simply shrugged and asked if I want boba on the side. I am not sure if people have boba on the side in their teas (do they?!), but I requested him for another drink with the boba INSIDE. Shortly after stepping out of my hair stylist's booth after getting a hair cut, I get a notification from my Doordash app showing a BOGO free deal from a boba place nearby. It was as if the app read my mind and knew I wanted some boba. Turns out, this place was Ume Tea which conveniently is located in the same shopping plaza as my stylist. The interior is decorated with incredibly cute aesthetics, and they had a cart outside with free samples that you could try. There are also several tables available if you opt to dine in. The BOGO offer was only available for the Passion Fruit Green Tea, which just so happened to be my go-to choice of boba flavors. It was like this deal was catered to me. I don't know if it was because I ordered more than 1 drink, or because my order was through Doordash, but they were stored in a very cute, insulated carry bag. When I walked back to my car, I decided to take out one of the drinks so I could enjoy it on my drive back home. It was a good thing I did too because it turned out they never put any straws in the bag. I wound up having to walk back to the store to get some. This is a huge oversight that they really should avoid in the future as it's really hard to properly drink boba without the boba straws. Additionally, they were using these really nice Lunar New Year cups at the time, which didn't have a great seal with the lid. While attempting to pick the cup up by the lid, it wound up spilling a huge portion all over my car when the lid popped right out. I'm sure their regular cups are fine. But be careful of their loose lids if you get a drink in any of their special holiday themed cups. What was left of my drink that did not spill was very good. I'm a fan of UME Tea but this experience left me feeling very frustrated. I waited about ten minutes in line to order three drinks. Twenty minutes later, still nothing so I checked in my order. The guy at the counter acknowledged my order but still ended up skipping me. My order was placed at 3:41pm. And I saw orders placed and printed at 3:58pm and still being serviced first. As I saw more tickets printed and my order was still pushed aside, I checked in again at 4:07pm and my order still wasn't ready. I checked again, this time with another employee. She acknowledged my order and still nothing. I checked in again for a third time and I can hear her say to complete my order in Mandarin like I was a difficult customer but I placed my order and paid for it. AND finally at 4:17pm, it was ready. Took nearly 36 minutes to get my three drinks, meanwhile, customers who placed their orders after me received their drinks first. Make no sense. I understand that the wait times can be very busy but the lack of service and disorganization between the employees running back and forth made this experience so awful. This may be one of my new favorite boba shops in the Bay! I don't know how I've never heard of them before, but I came here after a hike in need of a refreshing drink. I was enticed by their topping options since there were a lot of unique ones I hadn't seen before. I opted for the jasmine tea with taro and sticky rice. I LOVE sticky rice and this one did not disappoint - it was so chewy and well cooked and paired so well with the taro paste! I just moved to the area and was excited to see they had Ume Tea available. I placed my order online and it was ready in minutes. Seems like they have quick service (though it is a weekday around noon so maybe because people are at school / work). The interior looks new and clean. I was excited to get the Bunny Surprise Cup where there is a little plushie hidden in a compartment under your drink for about $4-5 extra. I was pretty disappointed with the one I received. Looks like an animal face on a green ball. Very small and not cute. At other Ume Tea, locations, I have received a full size animal plushie (sometimes even Sanrio). This made my experience not as great. The drinks themselves are good! I recommend the Mango Yogurt Smoothie (comes with mango topping and crystal boba). I also encountered a cosplay event with a few small vendors selling handmade prints, keychains, and jewelry, which were a bit expensive as SJMade. Overall their Guava Yogurt Series are so good, so does their popcorn chicken and fries combo. They even offer a loyalty program to earn points for a free drink or snack, which is free to sign up on the kiosk. Remember to apply your loyalty membership every time you order. Expect to wait in line for the kiosk for 20 minutes, then your order for 20-25 minutes, and park farther during the weekends. I was in the area and decided to try their Dubai chocolate shake, 30% sweet, standard ice (they don't allow any modification on the ice), medium (which is the only size they offer for the shake). The pistachios really taste like they took the plain nuts and grinded them up into a drink, which is interesting and not necessarily bad, I'm just used to places with pistachio drinks having a very concentrated and sweet pistachio flavor. I was expecting a stronger chocolate flavor though, the chocolate was disappointingly rather muted. I'm not too familiar with how Dubai chocolate is supposed to taste but nothing particularly stood out to me about the chocolate part of it, and I figure Ume was just trying to hop onto the Dubai chocolate trend. At the bottom of the drink, though, the nuts were more concentrated and I thought that was fun and savory so that was the good part of the drink. I wouldn't get this drink again especially given it's one of their most expensive drinks. This location does have a few tables outside, and they had a dispenser with oolong milk tea samples inside. I also appreciate that their speed of making drinks is fairly quick compared to other Ume locations. It took about 9 minutes based on when I got the text notifying me my drink was ready. When I went to the other Fremont location, it had taken nearly twice as long for my drink, and when I've gone to the Cupertino location in the past, it has often taken around half an hour. read more

I went again for the second time and it was a different experience. If you haven't been to an Ume Tea before, you probably wouldn't know what to get unless you spend time looking through the menu at the kiosk when you're about to order or crowded around the screen near the cashier. They definitely need more menus on their TVs, instead it was showing Ume tea advertisements. For some reason, they didn't have their AC running so it was very warm in there. With the crowd of people inside and outside waiting to order and for their drinks on an already warm summer day, it did not feel great waiting in there.
