I came in here because I needed my alternator changed and wanted to support a local business. BIG MISTAKE. They replaced it on Thursday with a part they sourced and told me was NEW. I asked about the guarantee on it because AutoZone had lifetime warranty on their alternator. Riccardo told me their part will be 1 year or 1,000 miles which was good enough for me. On Monday, 4 days after getting my alternator changed, I drove to New Jersey. About 3.5 hours in, my car broke down on the New Jersey Turnpike. I needed 2 tow trucks, one to get off the turnpike and another to get to a repair shop. Thank god I found somewhere open on Labor day who took my car in and repaired it on Tuesday. Every test I had showed that the "new" alternator failed. I spent almost $600 at Briars service station getting my alternator replaced. I had to spend almost $900 to have it replaced in NJ again to make it back home. I took the alternator back to Briars and explained the situation. They had the part tested and said it passed the testing but either way, after a 3.5 hour drive, it failed and left me stranded 4 states over. The only way for me to get home was to have it replaced. I told them, I know you used a rebuilt alternator, that is what the NJ guy told me. Riccardo said "correct". I was told this was a NEW part, not a rebuilt part. I NEVER would have accepted that, I would have got a brand new part from AutoZone for the same price! I wish I never came here. I spent hours and days I cannot get back waiting for tow trucks and waiting for my car to repaired. Briars will not issue a refund. I am filing complaints with MVDB, Virginia Office of the AGs Division of Consumer Counsel, Fairfax County Consumer Affairs and my credit card company. Shame on you Stan and Riccardo. Response to Stan: I called for an estimate on Wednesday while I was standing in AutoZone. I did mention that I might bring my own alternator part from AutoZone but then I called back and said I would like to go ahead with the NEW part that you source which you said would be there on Thursday. All the prices were given to me by Riccardo on the phone. I took a note of it and agreed of the parts and labor for a new alternator. I had no other issues with my car apart from needing a new alternator. I had AutoZone check the battery which was fine, both before and after you installed the alternator. I was not told it was a remanufactured part at all. I was told it was NEW. Otherwise I would have got the new part from AutoZone who offered lifetime guarantee for the same price. I am not complaining about your pricing. I am complaining that I have paid for a remanufactured part and the same service within 4 days because your shop either didn't do a good job or used a bad part, leaving me stranded 4 states over! I drove back perfectly fine from NJ with the alternator they replaced there. Clearly your work was the issue. I have read many terrible yelp reviews now about your shop, I wish I saw them before coming in. What a terrible repair shop and customer service. read more

I had a low tire that I thought was flat and needed a plug. I brought it in. They were short staffed but got me in the same day. It did take about 40 minutes to get there but they're basically the only group in the area that does inspections (both of them mind you). The tech pulls it in, takes a look, asks me to come over and shows me that there wasn't a flat, it was just the extreme cold that caused it to deflate. he brought it back up to normal pressure and did my other tires. After that, he came in and told me no charge. These guys are a class act. They are a small shop that won't nickel and dime you like the big shops around here. You want good quality service that you can trust? Come to these guys. Oh - and this isn't the first time I've had a great experience with them. Shop misdiagnosed my car, fixed something I told them NOT to fix, then refused to turn over the car until I paid $1200 dollars and would not refund me. Also, they returned my car with a variety of missing electrical errors (Power windows and power trunk not working whatsoever). Halfway through I told them to stop working on it. They literally refused, and also did not even have the courtesy to answer the phone for DAYS. I spent close to $1000 on a rental. They wouldn't even reimburse me for that. SCREW YOU STAN! read more

I took my car in for an inspection and only needed wiper blades. The next day I noticed a crack in my windshield. I took it back and the owner Stan replaced the whole windshield for no charge. Pep boys charged me about $500. The mechanic at the exxon tried to charge...$2000. And a $135 fee to tell me what's broken, when I told them what's broken. $40 more for an alignment than other places. The parts prices are inflated. Labor is at double or triple than other places. I'm not the type that leaves reviews but it's really bad....I'm glad I didn't go through the headlight scam. When I first came here in 2021, there was this one guy who was nice. Perhaps that's the Steve I keep hearing about. Whoever is there now, you can just tell by the look on his face, that he wants to rip you off. For years, I used to happily get my cars serviced here when Steve managed (he unfortunately left). However, last spring I was sadly disappointed in the service. Had to wait over 1.5 hours for the mechanic to show up to do the inspection (his excuse about the weather related road conditions made no sense and he didn't seem to care about the impact he was having in the business). Very dedicated and hardworking owner is trying to keep his small business going despite difficultly finding reliable mechanics. I have been going to Briar Oaks Exxon for over 7 years, but since Steve, the manager left, things have been going south. Recently, my car had a squeak that was completely misdiagnosed. They said it had something to do with some belt (very technical) but it turned out to be squeaky brakes, and they did not even perform an oil change properly - they left out a required quart. Today while driving on busy Hwy 66, I noticed my tire pressure light was on. I quickly exited the interstate at Hwy 50, clueless on what to do next (other than leave 66 under heavy construction, with no shoulders). Within minutes I sighted an Exxon with "Bays Open" sign. When was the last time you saw that? Especially on a Saturday morning? I explained my situation to the nice man, who I assume is the owner, who immediately checked each tire, added air to the culprit, then inspected for nails. This is a review for the car repair shop at this gas station. This actually happened two weeks ago. My girlfriend and I are driving from Boston to visit some friends in Fairfax on a Friday night, planning to drive back on Sunday. On my way there, I bust my tire. Luckily, I happen to be right in front of this repair shop, so I drive carefully into their parking lot and leave my information with the gas station attendant. I see that the repair shop is open on Saturday, but closed on Sunday. Crap, if it can't be fixed tomorrow, we'll have stay in the area until Monday and both miss work. So, I plan to call on Saturday morning as soon as the shop opens, at 8 in the morning. At 8:11 Saturday morning, I get a call from the manager, telling me he's already started checking out my car and he'll call me back when he knows what's wrong. At 9:42, he calls me back and tells me what my options are. If he can get parts by the end of the day, he can be done today. The shop is closed Sunday, so if he can't have them today, he'll have them on Monday and the car will be ready on Monday. So I say, "That's great, if you could, but otherwise I can go back a day later than planned," and I hope for the best. By 1:00 in the afternoon, I already hear that they have the parts, and they'll be done by the end of the day. That is awesome. By 4pm, I get a call telling me that they're almost done and I can pick it up anytime. Since the shop's hours ended at 2pm, they have to work overtime to get this job done. But they get it done anyway, I can drive home Sunday. Amazing. I can't recommend them more. They went above and beyond. If they do for you, be sure to tip them well. read more

I went to get gas at this station since I only had 36 miles remaining. I put a little over a gallon since gas is $5.29 for regular at this station while every other station are around $4.80 to $4.99. After I got in my car the mileage remaining did not go up not even 1 mile. My car averages 33mpg. Never going there again. read more

I have made 2 Yelp reviews in my whole life and this is one of them because I just had to share how awesome this place is. - (9ish A.M.) I requested a Quote via Yelp for this Exxon and 10 minutes later I got a call from Steve asking what the issue was. I told him the issue and he told me to bring my car down whenever (already a plus because I didn't have to book an appointment or wait). I brought the car in 30 minutes later and immediately after meeting Steve, he told me he knew my problem based off the phone call. When we went over to the car he pointed out the issue without even having to inspect it! I left the car with him and he told me it would be done the same day! (11:31 A.M.) I got a call back from Steve saying the car is fixed. This whole process only took 2ish hours! Steve was very nice and honest and is great at what he does. I will definitely recommend him to anyone in this area if you are looking for a straightforward and honest repair. read more

Up until now, I've only used Briar Oaks auto repair service for car inspections and emission testing (which was always a good experience). Oh, and for their tiny post office -- super convenient. I have a 1997 Jaguar convertible that is only used for fun. All the rear lights went out on it and a friend recommended Steve at Briar Oaks for the repair. As this car is a "weekend car," I was hesitant to spend a fortune on repairs. Brian did a lot of calling around the country and got the specific parts I needed from reputable used parts suppliers which meant I didn't have to buy new from Jaguar. As you can imagine, this saved me a lot of money. He also replaced my antenna and did not charge me for the labor. Everything is working perfectly now and I will continue to use Briar Oaks for auto repairs. read more

DO NOT COME HERE FOR YOUR SAFETY INSPECTION. Read the other reviews, this place CANNOT be trusted!!! Even though this is a convenient location next to the Fair Oaks DMV, THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU. I am almost positive that they profiled me since I was a young, single Asian woman and looked like I could be easily sold on unnecessary services. You might be able to get an honest inspection if you are a dude. I took my car here yesterday to get it inspected and they failed me because they claimed I needed to change my rear brakes and tires. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. Just last year I got a set of new tires from JiffyLube, my brakes have always been super responsive and I rarely ever drive my car (I moved to NYC for a time period and now I mostly carpool with others). When they told me that I had failed, I instantly suspected something was wrong. When the manager saw that I wasn't willing to back down, he dismissively walked away. I guess he realized he couldn't get a sale out of me. I told my boyfriend about what happened and he insisted that he take my car to another location to get a second opinion. LO AND BEHOLD: MY CAR PASSED. The people at the other inspection location said my car should never have failed. Let's examine the facts: Asian girl takes car to this location and fails on four counts. White guy takes SAME CAR to ANOTHER LOCATION THE VERY NEXT DAY and passes with flying colors. The people were very friendly here but unfortunately, I feel compelled to write this as I'm not sure they can be trusted. I took my BMW here for a state inspection. I was shocked to hear that the car failed. Briar Oaks offered to give me an estimate to do the repair but I let them know I had an extended maintenance warranty with BMW and would be seeing if it was covered. Briar Oaks asked if I was sure as they would be cheaper than BMW and gave me a sales pitch about their technicians. Long story short, I took the car to BMW to be told by BMW's state inspector that the car should not have failed inspection. I'm not a car expert but I find that troubling and wanted to let other Yelpers know. read more

Reached at 4:30pm. The young boy told me wait in line behind the stop sign. After about 15 mins of waiting, the manager in the blue suit comes and says "we cannot take you" !! My brakes were pretty much done. There was grinding and hissing and all sorts of stuff you don't want your car to do when you simply want to stop. Yelp is awesome. It got me 10 quotes back for services. Briar Oaks was the most convenient service and the best priced. I dropped my vehicle off at around 8 one evening. It was ready around 11:30 the next day. Quick, courteous service and it didn't break the bank. I'll be coming back here for all my car care needs in the future. The place has state inspection, emissions, all kinds of stuff for your car (basically any make) and you can ship USPS from there! I've been coming here ever since I got my car (4 years). The service people are really nice, the manager Steve is very insightful with what needs to be done with your car. The prices are really fair I think. I was estimated for a timing belt change, water pump change and orther miscellaneous things and it was cheaper than everywhere else. They tell you in detail whats wrong, how it happened and what needs to be done to fix it. My reason for a 4 star rating: I get my oil changed here 3 times a year. I order my own oil and filter because I get it at a reduced rate. Today I go in and I was told that from here on out, I HAVE to use their oil, I cant bring in my own oil. This is just for them to make more money which makes total sense. I will be doing that after this oil change since I already have my oil bought. The prices for gas are 20 cents more than .2 miles down the road. My 4 years of coming here I have never and will never fill up gas there. The owner and his employees are reallllllly nice and helpful. They are good people there, the customer service keeps me going back. read more

Moved from California and took my car in to get a safety inspection and emission test. I have a 2007 BMW and unfortunately had a few problems, I was surprised to find such reasonable people at Briar Oaks Exxon. I've never met a Service Manager more interested in working with customers and just making it work. I had my o2 sensors replaced on my car and it took weeks for the car to pass emissions and Briar Oaks worked with me the entire time and finally got it all passed. I later took my car in for what I thought was an oil leak, worried it was the last nail in my car's coffin and the service manager explained it was a simple fix. I felt my headache go away right away, knowing I found some true and honest people to bring my car to. I highly recommend Briar Oaks Exxon for any issue you have with your car. Talk to the Service Manager about what the problems are, you'll be glad you did. read more

Prior to today, I only ever used this Exxon for car inspections, gas (warning - it is a little pricier than other stations in the area), and to drop off mail. Mail? That's a little known fun fact -- there is a USPS inside that does everything a regular post office does. The gentlemen who work there are friendly and accommodating and sincerely try to provide good service. Yesterday, my car started to make rattling noises when I accelerated. After investigating the problem via Google, I deduced it was the heat shield and called the Exxon to get a price and time estimate. The man on the phone told me, if it really was the heat shield, that it would depend on whether it needed to be taken off or just repaired. I went this morning at 8:15am, and was on my way by 8:45-8:50. The garage manager came out and spoke with me about the condition of the heat shield, what my options were, and answered all my questions. There was also a problem with a slight oil leak that the mechanic had noticed, but absolutely no pressure to pay for extra repairs or additional work. They just gave me a timeline of when I needed to get it fixed, what the potential consequences are for ignoring it, and how much it should roughly cost. It was a lovely experience and, though I can't guarantee I'll always go to them for my mechanic needs, it's nice to know that there isn't pressure to commit and pay for services I don't want. read more
