Was decent, I didn't die...That's a plus. The nursing staff is very good, but very busy. The nursing assistance need some work/help. Depending on who you are assigned, its a gamble. Some CNA's are better than others. read more

The place is clean, no odors, no patients yelling and my friend I visited said he is getting all the care he needs there. He was well dressed and clean watching TV. The C.N.A.s were very friendly and helped me log in and label some new clothes. Activities were going on and there were several patients in the dining room, smiling and enjoying themselves. I did not observe the lunch meal but there was a gal going down the hallway with snacks that looks appetizing. read more

When we first arrived there was poop on the wall and railing of the bed my loved 1 was a signed to sleeping in I asked if someone could clean it as it was not hygienic they said yes of course I stayed for 4 hours it did not get done I cleaned it myself. This shoulda razed a flag for me. The night supervisor does not care for residents at all spoke back to patients extremely rudely & treated people without care or compassion . If supervision talks down to residents I could only imagine how the other staff is trained to deal with other situations. read more

I wouldn't want someone I care about here. The staff don't follow up, they don't seem to care about the reputation of the place. The therapists are very lazy. Nurses seem overworked and exhausted. Management just collecting a paycheck. I wouldn't feed my dog the food they serve. My husband was transferred here for therapy, they didn't care whether he lived or died. Lisa Turner, especially, has been my eyes, ears and emotional rock. Her understanding, patience and true concern for my cousin and all her patients make this facility very special. Please listen to these reviews and do not bring your loved one here. The only reason why we had to go here for our family was because this place was the only facility that had a bed open. Our family member came to this shit hole to get physical therapy to get stronger. He fell on their watch and ended up breaking his shoulder !!! Not sure how or why this even happened. It's extremely disappointing and disturbing how they don't care for their patients. At least have a bed alarms for patient with high fall risk, but they didn't even have that nor rails on the bed. I've been here over a year to recuperate from a fall . After all that time, I am. No better than when I arrived. I still cannot stand or walk. It's almost like they don't want me to leave. Apparently my health insurance pays them well. They stuff patients in rooms with three beds and no privacy. You get a TV but you can't hear it cause your neighbors have their volume up to load and the curtains between you offers no relief! I don't recommend this place! read more

Maybe it's not the best looking facility from outside, but the staff working there is absolutely amazing. I had a friend treated there for almost a year in sub-acute unit after the stroke. Their nurses and respiratory techs truly care about the wellbeing of their patients and they are happy to share every little progress with you. The last person I got to know was Rosie, a brand new social worker - a lady with a warm smile and great attitude. I feel bad not remembering the nurses names...there were a few... a petite Philippine lady in glasses... another one, Christine... I just want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. My wife spent about two weeks here and it was a great experience, the RT's, CNA's, LVN's, RN's, Social Workers, Case Managers, Event Coordinators, etc... They were all exceptional and attentive to my wife's needs I had no worry of her being there. My wife suffered an accident and she underwent surgery so came here temporarily while she was awaiting transfer back to the old facility. I know a bad place when I see one, don't be fooled by the way the facility looks they make it up in the care they provide for your family member or yourself. They work round the clock to ensure their needs are being met, had I lived out here in Los Angeles I'd keep her there until she recovers. Give this place a chance it's better than you think. A word of advice everyone is willing to help if you just talk to them or ask them, if you really love your family member or yourself than make your presence known. read more

I have been a patient at BNC for a couple of years now. I am excited about the new Administrator and on going changes. One the weekend mangers. The worse place to leave a loved one who can't speak for themselves. My sister came home after 5 days with a terrible diaper rash. Her teeth were never brushed. Didn't care for the doctor on staff there either. Wouldn't let me talk kept talking over me and lecturing me at every topic. Your loved ones aren't loved there. Stay clear. read more

If your family ever needs a nursing home. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR ANYONE! It will be one disappointment after another. It's expected from a marketing rep because they want the business but yet again deceiving and disappointing. When you call to check on your loved one, they tell you "They are fine and they are comfortable" when in reality get ready to get that call and hear about their worsening health! Whenever I have tried reaching out to social services, both representatives (Angie and Jackie) have ignored my request, emails and calls. Raymond the office manager will only listen to your complaint, and in the end not much will get resolved. I feels like he doesn't take his job serious. Iris Duran, is the BEST and some of the nurses are total SWEET HEARTS, Iris and the nurses have gone above and beyond to help us feel connected and make us feel like we are with dad in his recovery. Having to call and check up on your loved one should never be a feeling you dread to do. When I used to call UCI 10x a day, not once did anyone ever make me feel I was bothering them or taking their time, nor anyone made me feel like I was "the annoying caller". SUBACUTE is a long term recovery center for anyone in a comatose condition. And my family and I feel terror for the time being that my loved one will be in this place. Don't be afraid to call and check up on your loved one, sounds like they are overwhelmed , under staffed, and barely have the time time to talk to anyone. Your loved one may not be neglected, but they wont be treated in a timely manner and and that is when the concern arises!!! read more

My husband was sent here and the place is filthy and I saw one attendant using the same old dirty washcloth on two different patients. And my husband was promised that this place is also a physical rehab but every day I was there and went to the joke of a room where rehab is to take place no one was receiving any rehab. They had no modern rehab equipment. Actually none. Like 98% of all convalescent places in the United States they are depressing filthy places where you are packed in like sardines. one attendant even yelled at this poor old man that took some extra food off a food tray that someone was done with because he was still hungry and she told him to stop it. When you get to the point where you are poor and have no one to care take you at home and are shoved into one of these places who the hell cares how much you eat. The United States has the worst facilities to caretaker our elderly and disabled. Only if you are rich or famous do you get to go out in style. Our Government should be ashamed of themselves. Oh wait they don't give a crap because we pay them billions in salaries and pensions and they get to die in their mansions with doctors and nurses by their bedsides. read more

In 2014, I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and Lymphoma. Because of the aggressiveness of the disease, both were treated as Stage IV, under constant supervised care. At one point, I was transferred from Kaiser Downey to Briarcrest Convalescent Hospital and the decision had been made by my husband and by Kaiser. Neither of whom I hold responsible for how I was treated by Briarcrest and their staff. After being settled, I had extreme eye sensitivity due to the chemotherapy. So I had my portion of the curtain at the window closed. I was in a three bed room, which was too small even for one bed let alone three. Some of the rooms have FOUR beds. Privacy was managed by curtains. When the nurse closed my part of the curtain for the window, I heard the room's other occupant said, "We'll see about that (about my request for my part of the window curtain closed.)!" I had no idea what I was in for. If I had, I would have demanded to be moved, even to home if necessary. The next night, another patient was wheeled in around 11 pm, named Ida Mae. I do not care if I use her name, nor do I care what happened to her. Ida Mae was furious that "her" spot next to the window had been taken by a younger person, and was livid that she was to be placed in the center slot. I tried to be friendly. I say "tried." There are some people that there is simply no pleasing. Now I had lost my hair already and was bald. We are talking Patrick Stewart bald. It was very humiliating for me as Native Americans are very protective of their hair-- comes from BIA schools that forcibly cut it off, so it was a bit of a touchy subject. The other nurses told Ida Mae not to disturb me as I had severe cancer and was in constant pain. Ida Mae did not believe it. So as I am laying down (it took an hour so it was nearly midnight by the time Ida Mae was settled), the curtain for privacy between Ida Mae's bed and mine swings open. I immediately close it, thinking it was an error. It opens again. I again close it. "I don't believe you have cancer. Let me see your bald head!" Ida Mae screams at me. Excuse me? I shut the curtain again. My condition is none of her business, and I am not there on display for her pleasure and amusement. I stopped being someone's punching bag over 40 years ago. Polite "No" responses get me nowhere. The harassment continues until 2 am. I have now called for the administrator on duty. They wind up moving her bed and locking down the curtain with furniture. "She doesn't have cancer! I want to see her bald head!" This is for reals, folks. And it was the beginning of her harassment. The administrator the next day tries to yell at both of us. At both of us, thinking it was MY fault I had to call for an administrator because Ida Mae was screeching and acting like a self-entitled queen ripping open my privacy curtain every ten minutes between 12 midnight and 2 A.M. "Sorry, but Ida Mae did this on her own. Not my fault." I put my earplugs in and Ida Mae is given a reprimand for her behavior, as the administrator chews both of us out. As if this was my fault that my roommate acted like a complete....well, you can fill in the blanks. Hubby brings me 32 decibel earplugs. Ida Mae blasts her television all night long. Absolutely NOTHING is done to remedy situation; if I dare to call for help, it's my fault, and Ida Mae demands any nurse called to see me must see her first, as I clearly didn't need any help. So my husband visits me on a pre-arranged visit with my cat. All the nurses adore my orange tabby moose. This was all I had to look forward to at the time. They were cooing over the big sweetheart and he was so glad to see me he laid on my hospital bed on a special blanket to prevent cat hair and infection. He refused to leave my bed and just purred away. Hearts were melting in that place. Hand sanitizer was used to keep everything sanitary. It was a great visit, and I guess Ida Mae was too busy with television to realize the special guest I had next door. Then, like an unexpected banshee, I hear: "I want to see your cat! Open your curtains!" Ida Mae was screeching. This time my response was firm and my tone reflected my disgust with this hospital and my exhausted patience. "No." Ida Mae did not speak to me again. For which I was profoundly grateful. She did, however, curse me under her breath. I figured, if she treated me with such disregard, I shuddered to think what she would do to my tabby. So she didn't get her way. Fortunately or unfortunately, a giant blood clot sent me back to Kaiser Downey. No respect for patients, no control over abuse from other patients, and general rudeness. The nurses were the only ones worth being called healthcare professionals. And Briarcrest, feel free to call me to inquire about all this. I'm sure it'll be enlightening. read more

A few weeks ago my 80 year old mother broke her hip and Kaiser provided a list of Rehab. facilities. We chose Briarcrest by default. My dad wanted to be close to his wife of 58 years. Initially the family was very apprehensive after reading all the negative reviews and its location in Bell Gardens. We visited the facility and decided to place our mom in this location with fingers crossed and ready to move her out ASAP if it didn't meet our expectation. Fortunately everything worked out! The staff was outstanding, they really do care. The nurses, PT's, food staff, front office, stylist (very nice to my mom while cutting her hair). This list goes on and on. The rooms, environment, overall facility was very clean. Parking can be a hassle. Now understand it wasn't perfect, two patients to a room, nurses are very busy so at times one had to wait a few minutes extra. The highest compliment was provided by the patient (my mom). She had never stayed in this type of facility and she was very pleased with the attention, rehab. performed, and consistent support. After a few days she was out of her wheelchair and walking gingerly with a walker...with daily improvement. Finally, don't let the exterior complex steer you to another direction. Talk to the office staff, get a guided tour and see for yourself if your loved one requires some time in this type of facility. Unfortunately these reviews on Yelp usually attract negative feedback so here is a flip side contrasting those reviews. No I don't work for this company! Do your due diligence and hope all works out during these stressful facts of life. Ours did. read more

I recently had a family member stay for a short while at Briarcrest Nursing Center for physical therapy. I found that the staff really care about their patients, and they handled potentially difficult situations with empathy and skill. Tim, in particular did a great job with the rehab, but all of the nursing and admin staff were really on top of everything and kept me informed. When it was time to leave, they arranged the transportation home, and the all of the exit planning was really well done. Before he left the facility my family member got his first coronavirus vaccine. Like clockwork, just before the second shot was due, I got calls from both Chrissy and Bridget to remind me about the second shot. I arranged the transport and everything went off without a hitch. I am sure that most nursing facilities hear from family members mostly when there are complaints, so I am pleased to be able to report that Briarcrest Nursing Center, their director Raymond Pellicer, and the entire staff get really high marks for this recent stay and aftercare. read more

Briarcrest is not to be recommended.Certain night nurses like to flip you over very roughly and yell at you when you have soiled your diaper! Upon being released from this so -called skilled nursing center?they gave me three insulin pens with zero needles. What good would that do for me? I am a recent amputee with Diabetes.Be sure to check your medicine carefully upon release.Especially during Covid -19.They will put you on hold for quite a long time and not transfer you to anyone in charge.Incompetence abounds. read more

They don't know how to take care of patients. Dirty facility. Staff is useless. Witnessed a wheelchair bound man fall out of his chair and it took the staff literally 20 MINUTES to pick him up. Highly recommend deciding against this nursing home. My grandfather was found with wounds on his hands. When we questioned the nurses, they claimed he scratched himself. This was no scratch. It was a deep and bruised cut. We have reported the facility, and it is under investigation. read more

While my review so far of this facility is 3-stars, I do have to say that there is one aspect of the facility that truly stands out.... Lisa Turner has been so far beyond helpful in assisting our family and our mother in adapting to a new chapter of life to embrace and adjust to. She has consistently been the point person to facilitate our inquiries and needs. While I value the care that they do provide our mother (the reason for the 3-stars), I can confirm that the communication is incredibly lacking and the follow up to be non-existent. The plus side, however, is that after meeting Lisa and seeing how she really does follow up with everything shes said she would, she is the person that puts us at ease that our mother is taken care of there. In Lisa, I've found someone who truly understands compassion and understanding for people who are struggling with the new conditions they find themselves in. The demographic that typically reside at a facility like this have often endured a struggle that most people dont understand. Unfortunately those individuals are some of the first to be forgotten about. Dignity is an important thing for everyone to hold onto since without it, there's no self worth and interestingly, it costs nothing to give to someone. Thank you Lisa for affording our mother the commitment to ensuring that she retains the dignity she deserves. You're truly special at your job and provide a sense of comfort to all of us for an otherwise painful situation to find ourselves in. read more

I had a family member brought here and despite the reviews I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and I was disappointed. Everything in this place is broken, social worker does not help at all and even lied to us about information. Every time I would call to get an update I was hung up on and never was able to talk to the doctor. My family member was supposed to receive proper therapy and they received none. Some nurses have attitude and do not have any empathy towards patients. This place is short staff as well so patients do not get proper care. 1 nurse for 10+ patients ??? The lack of care caused my loved one to get two bed sores on their behind and tooth were never cleaned. Not okay, and that is just half of what's wrong with this place. I only met a handful of people that were helpful the rest are really only there for a check and have no care. If you are planning on bringing them here, DONT. Truly regret having my loved here. read more

My 83 year old father was here for a month and a half recuperating from injuries he obtained in a car accident. During his stay the staff was so kind, helpful, and considerate. They were attentive to all my father's needs and answered any questions and concerns my family had. Me and my sister were there every day, nearly all day, and saw first hand how professional, diligent and hard working the staff was. My family would especially like to thank Drs. Chung and Wu. My father's physical therapist's Jessica, Ellen, Ivan, Jerome, and David. His speech therapist Ni. Supervisor Elizabeth and staff members Sally, Nicky, and Maria. RT Nubia and every other RT who helped us. Apologies if we left anyone out! There was so many wonderful staff members here and we truly appreciated them all! This place use to be a very good place... In the last 2-3yrs it went under a new management transfer... They have incompetent cna's working. My uncle was injured there as a result of neglect. We took our dad ,as we were advised by the hospital he was to take him to a subacute facility, so we thought briarcrest was near home so it would be a good idea. But it was the worst thing we couldve done. We took dad on a friday night and by Monday we found him shivering, hard to breath, blood in his urine, anxious and very scare. We knew we had to rush him to the nearest hospital, so we told them to call 911. When we got there , we found out dad had pneumonia, urinary infection probably from not being properly hydrated and anemic! In three days!!. On Sat, Mar 6, 2022, I arrived at Briarcrest to attend a patient's birthday party. I was very happy that this birthday party was scheduled because I had missed the last party and the pandemic had prevented another party until now. When, I walked to building, I saw a tall male guest screaming at Lisa Turner. He thought that everything should have been set up. Lisa apologized and she told him that she had not known about the party earlier but that she'd make it right. She did. She located a place for guests to have party, and table and chairs; still, he berated her. Lisa turner remained professional and personable. She asked him what she could do to make him happy. He did not answer. Another guest appeared to have a medical situation. Lisa contacted 911. The guest was examined and choose not to go to hospital. About 45 mins later, the guest, again, appeared ill. Lisa contacted 911. The guest was taken to hospital and was discharged 2 days later. The staff helped Lisa, with the medical emergency and comforted the patient and calmed the guests. I am sorry that I witnessed the loud rude person's behavior; however, I know that this facility can take care of patients and guests. I would not hesitate to recommend Briarcrest Nursing Center. read more

No stars! Beware of this dirty place! My mother was at this nursing center for rehab and she was being mistreated by her night CNA Maria Zelaya. My mother complained at night due to pain and this person would scream at my mother, tell her to shut up because she wasn't letting her (nurse) sleep. When my mother asked her to move her positions, Maria Zelaya told my mother that she couldn't because my mother was fat and too heavy. This person would not change my mothers diapers in a timely manner and my mother came home with a terrible rash and what looks like a fungal infection in between her legs and on her private area. Do not leave your loved ones here and if they are taken there make sure you stay in constant communication with your loved ones and ask how they are being treated. When my brother told a doctor what was happening the doctor responded to my brother "this is a nursing home what do you expect" obviously they are not professionals and should not be working in that line of work. read more

This facility is an older building. Needs a remodel. The first room my family member was assigned to did not even have a working toilet. The restroom was being used for storage. As for the staff, most were pleasant . They do seem to be under staffed. We had a problem with my family member getting assistance when she rang the buzzer to call for the nurse. More than once she was told she would have to wait for assistance because they did not have an available person to assist her to the restroom. I was so happy the day my family member was able to leave the facility. read more

Let me start by saying if you bring your loved one to the facility you need to be involved in their rehab otherwise it's pointless. So I think the facility and staff are pretty good. They do need a few upgrades with the call buttons. The cooking staff also needs to learn how to prepare meals for diabetics. Mashed potatoes, tater tots and pasta not good to serve almost everyday. Plus fruit juices that are high in sugar. But all and the place is good. The staff from Kaiser is a different story. The doctor's English is not very good and hard to understand and they rushed my loved one out even though she expressed that she was not comfortable leaving yet. I would give this place a chance without Kaiser. read more
