I ate here yesterday. The atmosphere was good. We got a seat no problem. I really like ordering , and then paying (including the tip) . I picked the Tuscan sandwich. It was ok. I had eaten at this restaurant years ago in Mountain brook village and thought I would try it again. Just sub par food. I also ordered a side salad.. After several trips to Brick & Tin, I can safely say it's a great lunch spot. However, while most of the food is excellent, some of the menu unfortunately falls into the realm of mediocrity. But if you know what to order, you can have a fantastic lunch in great atmosphere at a reasonable price ($9-12). Note: As the menu has changed since I last went, some of this information is out of date. As a side note, the current menu actually looks like an improvement. The Sandwiches: Order the Brisket, the New Orleans, or the Cuban (currently not on the menu), and you'll probably have a good experience. The brisket is tender and the sweetness of the caramelized onions works very well. Admittedly, it could use more white BBQ sauce, but is still quite tasty. The Cuban is delicious and I especially loved how the tang of the pickled peppers brightened the pork. On the other hand, the Blackforest (current not on the menu) was nothing more than a decent Turkey sandwich. While the house-made wheat bread was above average, the sandwich had a only dainty smear of goat cheese--not near enough to balance out the 1/2 inch stack of bland Turkey. Other Food Items: All the soups I've had at Brick & Tin have been great. While the corn "chowder" wasn't really a chowder, it was nonetheless delicious. I almost always order the deviled eggs with Benton's ham--truly phenomenal and highly recommended. The salads are well-executed, but nothing spectacular. read more

We had the chicken sandwich and the New Orleans, with mushroom soup and white bean salad for our sides. The chicken wasn't very flavorful, the sides were very good, particularly the mushroom soup. The New Orleans reminds one of the basic muffaletta taste, good olive tapenade. We arrived at 11:00, and were the only folks seated. By 11:30 it had begn to fill up. I've been there while on jury duty, walked down from the Courthouse around noon and it was stuffed with people. I had the portobello mushroom panini sandwich then which was very good. read more

I wasn't super impressed with the soup, I def ate the whole thing and would recommend it, it just didn't have the really rich flavor squash usually does, BUT the girl next to me told the server it was the BEST squash soup she had ever had... I have eaten here twice for lunch and for under $10 good that is really good it is hard to beat. Both the brisket and New Orleans sandwiches are very good. I have gotten the house salad as a side both visits and it is equally as good. It also has a nice selection of bottle and can craft beers, including several local favorites. The only bummer is it is only open for lunch, except for Friday nights. I hear they are opening a second location in Mountain Brook that will be open at night. read more

Maybe I was there on a bad day: 1. Service was very slow. 2. I had the chicken salad panini. The chicken salad was coarse and bland. 3. The toasted bread was extremely hard and, in my opinion, obviously stale. I ended up throwing the food away. The manager reported that their bread is baked fresh daily. Wonderful. I read many reviews and all said to try any Panini, the butternut squash soup, and the bread pudding. I had the brisket and my wife had the chicken Panini. Absolutely delicious. Reading the menu for that Friday night were two bread puddings; peach and chocolate so we ordered both. Really sized for sharing but we wanted to try both and take the rest home for later. Passing through town and needed to grab a bite and hunker down to do some work...they've got WIFI. This place is incredible, the brisket sandwich was unbelievable and the salad was amazing and fresh. The brisket had these onions on it that was a flavor explosion in my mouth. I struggled whether I should give three or four stars. The place is really cool with lots of character. The exposed brick and really high ceilings covered with tin panels give the place a really cool look. Some of the tables are reclaimed doors, others are just really old wood. The sandwiches come with a choice of soup, salad, or side of the day. I had a sandwich called the Genova which had roast chicken, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and arugula. I chose the mushroom soup. My friend had the brisket sandwich and a small salad. The sandwich said brisket, caramelized onions, and white barbecue sauce. My sandwich was very tasty as was the soup. The chicken was a little dry and the soup, while very tasty, was put in a very cool and heavy, but cold, soup cup. The soup was very, very smooth with a drizzle of olive oil. I prefer a little texture of mushroom versus the uber smooth version but that is a stylistic choice and it was still very flavorful. The issue is the soup was about luke-warm. The brisket sandwich had a small slab of very nicely cooked, tender and flavorful brisket and not much else. The onions were present but just barely and the white barbecue sauce was so scant on the bread as to not be there. The bread on this sandwich was really good as was the focaccia on my sandwich. The salad was undressed and nothing more than unadorned spring mix. We had to ask for the dressing. When I break down the experience I really am comfortable with the three star rating as much of my positive feelings have to do with the great space. I would definitely give this place another shot but they fell a little short of the full potential on my first visit. read more

While it's nice to find fresh ingredients in a part of the country more known for barbecue and fried foods, the quality just didn't reflect the price. Some things were really good, but others just weren't quite there. The torta sandwich was awesome, and came on fresh bread with slow cooked beef and cotija cheese - totally worth $10. But the southern sandwich came on plain white bread and was pretty bland, not worth $9. The side salads were good but a little overdressed and I'm not sure why there was an enormous hunk of heirloom tomato (like almost half a tomato) sitting in it. Everything was good, just not good enough to warrant a $27 lunch tab for 2. I think it all comes down to what you order here - brisket sandwich or anything with beef will be better. read more

This place is a solid 5 stars. I have been at least a dozen times and have only been disappointed once (the backhouse sandwich-don't get it). Aesthetically speaking, the room is great. Exposed bricks, high tin-tiled ceiling, old church pew style benches, and great music in the background. The food is great. It's quality food with fresh quality ingredients for an unbeatable price. I always leave full for less than $10 including tip. I highly recommend the brisket sandwich and the classic salad with home made buttermilk ranch dressing or the genova sandwich. You will not look at ranch dressing the same again! I will continue to go back again and again. It can get crowded at lunch and seating is limited so get there early in order to get a seat and a meter within waling distance. read more
