Well, I've been to this location twice now and it seems I really do just feel "meh" about it. I wanted to try it again after the first mediocre experience since the reviews were so great, but I think I stand by my opinion. This deli is in downtown Decatur. Despite being downtown, I think parking is fairly plentiful and accessible, though ymmv. It's a fairly large restaurant with a pretty heavy bar/tavern feel. Menu items are mostly soups and sandwiches, with a few exceptions. The decorations are kind of cute, with some Decatur-themed things (like a poster-sized Monopoly space advertising the deli itself). I've found the clean level acceptable but not astonishing on my visits. Service is okay. Despite a fairly long delay between my visits, I think I had the same waitress twice. She was nicer the second time -- first time I felt sort of like I was burdening her. You seat yourself and it can take several minutes before someone comes by to check on you, even when not terribly busy. Once you're noticed, I felt both times a little rushed to place my order and pay, though that could be because I arrived around 1:45 and they close at 3. Still plenty of time to eat and scoot imo but I get it. Both times, I got the half sandwich and soup option because I like that portion size for lunch. I also got the chicken "la la" (enchilada) soup as my soup, and I will say this is the best thing I've tried there. A little spicy, a little creamy, lots of beans and corn. It's solid! The soup comes with a square of jalapeño cornbread, which on both visits was quite cold and very dry. Crumbling it on the soup helps if you're into that but I kind of like the soup on its own. For sandwiches, I've tried their take on a grilled cheese as well as the "Smokey Joe," which has smoked turkey, cheese, thousand island, lettuce, and bacon. No tomatoes for me. Both sandwiches were FINE, but not any better than what you could make at home quite comfortably. I get that sometimes you want something simple fairly quickly, but I was just a little disappointed. The turkey sandwich in particular had decent flavor but was constructed such that the sourdough bread was sopping wet and disintegrating by about bite two, which made it very hard to eat. The bacon was also very disappointing, thin and not very crispy. Again, nothing particularly bad here, but not a place I'd really go out of my way to return to. If I come back, I'll continue trying different sandwiches to find one that suits me.

First visit, came here for lunch and the place was packed. Had to grab an open seat at the bar. It is a full bar with several draft offerings and a couple TVs for your viewing enjoyment. Bartender was busy, but ultimately, service ended up being adequate. I ordered the Thompson turkey Reuben with a side of potato salad. Solid sandwich with good flavors, potato salad was excellent. The Brick offers several food options in a local tavern atmosphere. I would definitely come back.

Came here for lunch. Everything was fantastic! My friend got a spicy bloody Mary and she said it was really good. For lunch, I ordered the downtown hoagie and my friend ordered rob's rib eye sandwich. We then gave each other half. Both sandwiches were delicious! I would order either one again. For an upcharge you can get a cup of soup. I got the chicken la la. It was delicious! My friend got the cheese soup and she really liked it. If I lived here, I would come here all the time. The food was fantastic, service was great, and just a nice atmosphere.

There were so many sandwiches to choose from and all looked delicious! I ordered the club which had the perfect ratio of meat to bread to cheese. It was excellent. The potato soup was good but a little on the bland side. A sharper cheese & a little more bacon could kick it up a notch. I wish wish wish this place had some fries or onion rings for a side and maybe a few appetizers. The beer selection was a combination of some local drafts and some staple brews from the larger breweries. Excellent service and atmosphere.

This is an easy 5 star rating. Their sandwich clubs are unrivaled and service is amazing. The night scene is also a plus especially when they have live bands and pool. The Brick is a "must" whenever me and the wife are in town. read more

I was on a business trip to Decatur and was instructed I must go here to the Brick Deli. I'm so happy I did. I had the Smokey Joe sandwich and chicken La La soup the first time I was there. It was very delicious and I was hooked. I was in Decatur again two weeks later and I ended up going back here twice more so that I could try more of their soups. The beer cheese soup (forget what it's called) is to die for. I was here for lunch only so I didn't see the place at night. I was told they have local bands who play on the weekend and I thought that was super neat. read more

First time Brick Deli, it is nice to have table service for a deli and the ambience was nice. I had the Downtowner and my mother had the beef and cheddar, both sandwiches tasted good but both of them were soggy from the toppings that were not drained properly. Sandwiches and banana pudding are great. As is the beer cheese soup. I do not like the potatoe salad, it has a " sweet " taste. Beer selections are great. Prices are reasonable. It gets loud in the evenings when a band is playing. Great place for lunch or for drinks in the evenings, but I dont recomnend trying to enjoy a meal in the evenings read more

There is a $5 cover charge to get into this bar. To see what, you might ask? We were promised live music from the yelp reviews but it's really just a guy on a sound board. Lame! Also, mostly older crowd at 10 pm. The food and beer was pretty affordable and not too bad. Service was pretty attentive too. I guess for Decatur, it's not a bad place to hang out and people watch. read more

Great for a quick lunch! Five of us went to lunch here. The service was quick and friendly. We ordered a variety of items from the menu from salads, soups, sandwiches, and burgers. Every person in my group loved his/her lunch. We were able to enjoy a great lunch and get back to work! The atmosphere was welcoming and laid back. I will go back to eat lunch here every chance that I get. read more

We eat here about once a week and are never disappointed. Best bar food around. I love the mushroom-swiss burger and the Brickyard Dog is a wonderful hot dog. Don't miss the potato salad. Great selection of beers as well and the service is always prompt and friendly. read more

The Brick Deli is a great place to pick up lunch. The menu is not overwhelming but offered something different than the burger or pizza selections. Service is great and we were in and out in about 45 minutes on a crowed day. This would also be a great place to hang out on a weekend night and catch some live music. Worth the shot. read more

Don't know if the food is good or not because no one showed up to take our order. We entered and saw a big sign telling us to seat ourselves, so we did, saying hi to a waitress walking by... no reply. Not very busy, yet we sat for over 10 minutes with no greeting, acknowledgement or menu offered. So we left and went somewhere else. {shrug} read more

I was at the Brick for a late lunch this week with friends who just moved down from the north. Two of us ordered Reubens, & I can honestly say it was the best I've had since moving south 30 years ago. Whitney, our waitress was excellent! My friends were unfamiliar with some of the Southern dishes, so Whitney encouraged them to try the banana pudding (homemade) & even brought a small cup of Pimento cheese for them to try. This also was homemade & the best I have ever tasted! After the lunch rush is definitely the time to go for a relaxed & wonderful meal! read more

Great place for lunch! Everything has always been FANTASTIC! if you like hot then the Chicago Fire is for you! Great Draft Beer that is always cold. Bathrooms could be cleaner. they give you a choice between chips and potato salad... If you even remotely like potato salad get it you will not be disappointed! They almost always have live music on the weekends and may be charging a "cover" to get in when you add $5 a person to your meal if your not going for the entertainment then your meal can be a little $$$ With that being said I LOVE this place! read more

Food: Perfect! The sandwiches are to die for. My personal favorites: Turkey Surprise, beer cheese soup, Mexican Cornbread, Kibbles and banana pudding. Service: Excellent! Any business that is able to maintain the same staff for a decade or more speaks for itself. I do not feel as if I have a server waiting on me when I dine. I feel a personal connection w the same smiling faces that I've been accustomed to seeing year after year. I feel at home. One person does not take care of me throughout my lunch/dinner, they all do. Not only does the staff support each other in a work atmosphere, but they support our community and each other in every day life. It's a beautiful thing to witness from afar. The food here is outstanding. There is always something on the menu that jumps out and it's not always the same thing. the sandwiches are unbelievably good, the potato salad is outstanding and the beer selection is diverse. The atmosphere is neighborhood bare, like an old friend. The staff is friendly and accommodating. You will not be sorry you came here. This is place is a must stop every time I come visit my folks in Decatur. As I'm sure you've read on here before, their Wisconsin Beer Cheese Soup is to die for. It's without a doubt the best I've ever had. They have so many different sandwiches and they all look amazing. And if one of their 20+ sandwiches don't catch your fancy, you can "build your own" by mixing and marching from the excellent selection of breads, meat, cheeses, and condiments. Finally they have a great selection if beers ranging from mass produced big beers like Miller Lite & Yuengling to craft brews from across the Southeast. And being that I live in DC I was in shock to see just how affordable their beers were. Nothing was more then $6! What a steal! I'm looking forward to my next visit already! read more

My favorite place in Decatur. Food is always excellent. Some of best potato salad anywhere. Wisconsin beer cheese soup is great. Waitress' are always friendly. Nice atmosphere. I recommend that when you come here you try something new every time. I personally love sauce. Ketchup, BBQ, honey mustard, ranch. I love the taste they bring too food. Everywhere I eat I use sauce except for at the Brick. Here I just eat what they have made because every sandwich is perfect. The only thing this place need is some type of food challenge. That way it will bring more attention to it. read more

The best restaurant in Decatur for unique and delicious steamed sandwiches. The service is always excellent and the atmosphere is comfortable and fun! Considering the restaurant is locally owned, the food is consistently delicious every time I eat at the Brick. Love this place! read more

The Brick is the heart of Downtown Decatur, from its start as BJ's Deli back in 1972, the Brick has built on good food and music to become the hub of Decatur's downtown scene. The folks treat you well there and there's always something happening. I love my Delifolks. read more

I go to the Brick Deli about once every two weeks for Lunch. The food is very good with a well rounded menu. Our favorite waitress is very friendly and efficient. If you live in the Decatur, AL area I recommend you try it. read more

This place is an institution, It should be in the national landmark list. Best Sandwiches in the world, then you get live music, pool tables, huge patio and the most happing bar in decatur. Please never change anything. read more
