    Big burgers

A good place to grab a quick lunch! We had a hamburger, drink, fries and a ham sandwich for about $16. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. Look for a blue/gray cinderblock building on the corner near a gas station.

Still a solid choice and I am always happy to support these folks that are just one of us. Always plenty of bacon and always blue collar people lined up for some good food. Just try it. Breakfast and lunch are hearty and filling. Today got the bacon cheeseburger. It was a thick burger piled high with bacon and a tomato, lettuce, pickle, mayo, mustard. It was great!

Great burger! The meal includes a giant burger, chips or fries and a 20oz drink. The service is quick, but this is no "fast food" burger. This is a home made, hand patted burger and with all the fixins! Delicious! Be aware they close at 2:30pm so don't wait too late to get your lunch. Opens at 4:30am and also serves breakfast. I haven't had breakfast here but if it's as good as the burger I had today, it's awesome too I'm sure!

Obviously a local favorite. This place has more character in its pinky finger than most of the new spots. Ordered a BLT & it came with about 8 slices of bacon a fresh tomato slice, just right amount of mayo & ice berg lettuce. Best thing was it was on Wonder Bread. There's love & character in everything about this place. Highly recommended. Definitely coming back.

If you're looking for a bang for your buck country style B.L.T. or burger, then look no further. This little shack has been open for as long as I can remember and I can honestly say that I have never left feeling hungry or unwelcome. Good ol' basic country breakfast and lunch. Get some!!

A small hole in the wall where the sandwiches stand tall. This small hole in the wall sandwich shop is awesome. Open for breakfast and lunch - closes early. Stopped in and had a huge bacon cheeseburger. Hand made patties - cooked to perfection. No exaggeration - the burger was decked out - and it stood about 4-5 inches tall. Just under $6 with a drink. My second stop in for lunch - BLT - stood as tall, and loaded with bacon. Had a club sandwich - which was a feast in itself. Stop here - get a whole lotta bang for the buck. You won't leave hungry and broke. Very good place to eat. If their breakfast is as good - I'm positive you won't be disappointed.

If you are a person who likes everything to be perfect, do not go to this place. About me, I don't care about how the place looks like as long as the food is tasting good. They have a nice menu. I got me a cheeseburger to try it out, then I asked for another one with a fried egg. This is a very nice place which is running by a family. Their prices is very very reasonable. I recommend it If you are around that area of the city or passing by.

I stopped by with a colleague on a recent business trip and missed the part of the sign above the…read morerestaurant where it shows the word "brick" so I had to drive around the block a 2nd time to even locate the place. It was fairly full on a Tuesday for lunch so we had to sit by the front door. The menu is fairly simple and includes specialty sandwiches, salads and soups, a couple desserts and not much else. For as large as this space is, you would think they would serve more food items. Maybe their kitchen is just very small, not sure. The server indicated many of their sandwiches are steamed. I tried one of their sandwiches, the casa grande without olives, with a side (potato salad) and a homemade banana pudding. Sandwich - this is a pretty good sandwich that is moist due to the steaming and a lot of mustard and mayo. They also forgot to take off the olives though. Potato salad - their version is like a German potato salad with some skin showing and plenty of mustard as the base. The problem was it was too chunky with a chunk of potato the size of my fist. This is just too big to bite. Banana pudding - pretty good but very sweet My colleague's sandwich was decent too, but he also had a problem with some soggy bread. The service was decent as both our soft drinks were refilled promptly. Mondays amd Tuesdays are semi slow and they close at 3; however, other days are much busier with live music mostly on Fridays and occasional Saturdays.

Quick take: food was pretty good, decent prices, great drink, will come back!…read moreCame in around 5pm on Friday 2/27 and only one person at the bar. Nice lady told us to seat ourselves where we want, GM initially waited on us. He was friendly. Wife said he made the margarita and it was great! A little stronger than my wife likes, just under what I like. After a couple sips she loved it! He recommended fried catfish and the ribeye as favorites. We tried both. Ribeye: cooked nicely, not seasoned enough for my taste. I would order and try this again, $26, with two sides. Steak was tender and was a nice cut of ribeye. Salad was solid. Mashed potatoes ok. Could have used a piece of toast I think. Next time a different side from mashed taters. Catfish: GREAT! Light, fluffy, fried perfectly. Hush puppies were good, a little thick though. Fried okra was also great! Cole slaw could be hit or miss for folks.. i thought it was good, wife didn't like. Should have come out in mashed potato sized bowl to eat easier. Some dislikes: 1. Steak not seasoned well. But I'd try it again. 2. Some things missing off of our plates initially (tartar sauce, mashed potatoes.) No big deal but if it was busier I think we may not have seen them for a while. 3. Person bringing single bowl of mashed potatoes holding with one hand, palm down over potatoes. Pretty sure it looked like hand touched top of potatoes. 4. Not sure if this is a smoking establishment but a guy at the bar lit a cigar. But he must've been asked to take it outside because he put it out. Glad he did because we had a baby. Not sure why he thought he could smoke it in there if he hadn't before. Overall, good visit and I look forward to trying more things and eating that catfish again.

Service and food is amazing . The food was fresh and delicious . I will definitely go back.read more

I have been going to Apple Lane for over four years and just realized I had never posted a review…read more This place is great. While usually a sandwich is a sandwich in my mind. These are top level sandwiches. The meat is always terrific. I never used to get turkey, but here I usually switch it up each time I go. This is one of about five places in Decatur that are must try's if you want to get something unique. The sandwiches come with a spicy honey mustard. I love it. They don't show it but you can actually buy a pint of it. Every year I also will buy a ham from them. It is always the best ham of the year. People are always kind there and Micah is one of the best owners I have ever met! This place does a huge amount of cater orders, because most people in Decatur love this place. Banana pudding is always good. I have never tried the candy apple though. If you are visiting Decatur for a couple of days, get a lunch from here you will be thankful.

Quick Take: BOGO Tuesday, free apple pie with the Ham Panini with Raspberry Jelly..yes please!…read moreFriendly service, food tasted good, decent prices...would come back. The meat tasted good as always. The Ham Panini with Raspberry Jelly was tasty. I have two gripes with it. One, the jelly made that half of the sandwich very soggy. I ate it in the restaurant so it wasn't like I took it home. Two, the ham slices are not too thick, but thick enough where it is hard to bite through at their size without pulling the meat out with the soggy bite. The apple pie was also tasty, but don't heat in your microwave at home as it is in a foil tin. We sat at a high top and all the chairs there were rocking and bent. Be careful. Also, guys, come on...don't pee all over the toilet. Guys have to be better. I don't blame the restaurant but the bathroom could have been cleaner.

Major hidden gem in the Hartselle area! 4.5/5…read more I made the drive over after working in Decatur just to try Old Havana Cafe. It's in a sort of nondescript shopping mall. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a carryout only establishment. However, they do have a few chairs and a comfy loveseat to sit on while you wait for your order. I didn't order ahead but I was able to place my order at the counter. The menu online is more extensive than the menu on the board behind the register, so I'm not certain of what all is usually available. I wound up ordering a Cubano and a guava and cream cheese pastry. The man who came out to take my order and delivered it to me when it was finished was unbelievably warm and welcoming. He had such a calm and gentle demeanor and made me feel right at home. Definitely a highlight. My food took a few minutes to come out but overall was well within a reasonable time to wait; it was very hot and fresh. It was wrapped nicely and delivered to my waiting hands. I took it out to the car to eat. The cuban sandwich was quite good. Symphony of mustard, savory and slightly sweet ham, and sour pickles. Really good flavors, and piled high between the bread. My one small complaint is that previously the bread I've had on really good Cuban sandwiches has been a bit crispier than this particular one; it was a little more chewy than I've had in the past. Very very minor though, and more a preference than anything I suppose. That guava and cream cheese pastry, though....whewwwwww. It was my first time having a freshly fried one and oh my GOODNESS it was delicious. The guava was sticky and syrupy sweet, balanced by the creamy and dense cream cheese. The pastry was scalding hot and delightfully flaky. It was too rich to eat in one sitting, but so completely delightful. Although it's certainly a drive for me in normal circumstances, I'll happily return when in the area. I've tried a good handful of Hartselle area restaurants, and this stands out as one of the best.
