Fast food. So we call to see when the kitchen closes, they tell us 9:30... ok fine. We get there at ~8:50, bartenders at the bar are a bit rude... asked if we wanted to order since the kitchen was closing soon. Threw in a few apps. I don't think I've ever seen more plates of food on a bar. They didn't space out the orders. Drinks come and instantly 7 plates of food arrive and they are yelling for us to make room. Might be faster than a McDonalds. They really try to rush you out. Just an unpleasant dining experience. Maybe just take it to go since the food is actually great. I'm going to simply preface the review by saying that while Fairfield county has many fine dining establishments, Fairfield itself sorely lacks in the department. Sure, there are dozens of self-declared upscale casual places. Which in itself is an oxymoron, as is "American Fusion" (because American cuisine IS mostly fusion already). But, if American Fusion was to be, this establishment would be a great emissary for it because the menu is eclectic and well executed. There are some French mother sauces, some local classics, and above all, passion for good food. Told as I was that most vegetables, meats, and dairy were locally and seasonally sourced as available, given the quality of what I had; am inclined to agree. My choices for late lunch today were the Brussel Sprouts, a vegetable I hated as a child because my parents would give it the sole care of "boil and over-boil hard" and the Pork Belly dish. Both excellent. Where the pork was a bit salty by itself the brussels sweetness balanced it wonderfully. While the pork was a little bit on the savory side, when paired with the brussels natural sweetness it came out perfectly as a pairing of flavors. Huge plus in my book. Knowledgeable staff. Disciplined approach to cuisine, allowing a chef to show his real colors and make his magic by picking and combining textures and flavors which enhance one another, while maintaining enough freedom to keep some staple favorites. ...and adding adventure to the background spice. Very highly recommended. If first time, do ask for Ted for help in picking out the gems in the menu...or see if Dave the chef has a minute to entertain. He is super passionate. Explained the process in detail and not once tried to force anything. This place is easily on Midtown level, sans waiters who wear white gloves (bye bye 4 seasons). Starting with drinks, nice Pistachio Martini starter. The appetizers, were a delicious start. Had the Char-Grilled Octopus and split a kale salad with my Brother, both delicious . I guess I should have read the menu before coming here. I figured with Tavern in the name, it would serve pub like food with fair prices. $36 for meatloaf...is that Kobe beef?...$35 for linguine with clams...are there pearls in those clams? I understand food costs are up but that's ridiculous considering I can buy littlenecks for 40 cents a clam. What do you think the restaurant pays? I ended up getting a salad and burger which were nothing special. The wife had a fish special which she said was ok. We had a couple drinks.The server was great so I tipped good. Out the door was about $150. We ate at Don Angie in Manhattan a couple months ago for the same price. No comparison. read more

This is an overall great restaurant. I'd love going in there and sitting at the bar in the winter and staring at that beautiful fireplace. The wine selection is pretty decent. Pretty pricey with average food. Had the crispy chicken dumplings as an appetizer. A little too crispy, as in hard to bite into toward the ends. French onion burger was cooked well done vs medium. Is it possible to dream of skate wing, and who thinks of placing it on a perfectly plated mound of calamari rice? It was a memorable feast that pays tribute to detail. How is it possible the only young man who fills water could make it through the entire restaurant and be ready at the perfect time to refill without intrusion. Had dinner here yesterday with my ladies & let's just say we should've stuck to the appetizers. We ordered 2 Rounds of drinks which were okay tasty but missing a splash of alcohol . Dinner Was very mediocre our orders were meat dishes asked to be done medium well and clearly the chef couldn't get it right . Our steaks and burgers were sent back twice to be corrected because the inside was still very raw and not what we ordered . I requested a new burger but noooooo guess what I received the burger I sent back refried thrown back on my plate . We ordered the lobster risotto dish my friends lobster was cold and clearly they can't make risotto . I am a foodie and to just slap the same burger on my plate was disrespectful. After our vegan waitress didn't know what to do but kept apologizing we were over it . NOT once did the manger come out and we know he knew our table was having an issue . An employee stated he was supposed to come speak to us as the chef requested but instead we were disappointed ignored and only discounted $34 off a $200 bill wtf kind of service is that ? Our friends raved about this place and we couldn't wait to try it! Unfortunately we ended up being mostly disappointed. The strimp appetizer was amazing. The Osso bucco at 48.00 was somewhat dry and had no marrow in the bone ( it was sold to have delious marrow....When I questioned the manager, he said " some bones have it and some bones don't " ...cleary it wasn't the response I would of hoped for ?...my partner had the meatloaf which lacked the wild factor....Bottom line if the staff was more attentive to our concerns...i feel we could of resolved this..The best part of the service was the bus staff Walter and Nour! read more

I personally waited to go to eat at this restaurant. I feel as though all need time to get things down. Waitstaff was just ok. She needs more training. I was brought a salmon dish that I was told was grilled it was smoked, Big difference. It was slow inside. Clean.. but lacked warmth My lunch was not what I wanted so I took most off to eat the bread. I ordered the crab cakes very good! But it was just one. And for 15 bucks. That's higher priced. My friend ordered the pork belly. Was good but drowned in bbq sauce. The side on the crab and pork the slaws good. One had to much vinaigrette. We started with the watermelon goat cheese salad, it was phenomenal. For appetizers we had the Mongolian beef and it was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. For dinner I had the roasted lobster tail dinner and my wife had the crispy spicy shrimp. Both were perfect. The shrimp and corn risotto with the lobster tail was to die for. For dessert we got the strawberry tart on our waitress Bella's recommendation. It certainly may have been the best dessert I've ever eaten in my life. First time here and EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING. they have a special kids menu ( call and ask) I had short ribs with potato latkes (DELICIOUS!!!!) who would've thought potatoes could be this delicious. My husband had the pork belly and ramen sooooooo amazing. The decor is sooo cute. The waiter was great half price bottles of wine on tuesdays. Got the alert on Yelp that a hot and new place had opened. Decided to check this place out with my family. Since we have a two month old I called at 5PM to see about availability. We were told we could put our name on the list which was about 30 mins long. To our surprise as we were pulling up at 6:43PM and got a call that our table was ready. We were immediately seated upon our arrival. The place is on the location of the old Tokyo Hana. It has been totally renovated I am guessing to the the tune of 1 mil plus. They have fairly good sound insulation, and nice atmosphere. My kids ordered the stuff off the kids menu which came very quick. My wife and I shared the crispy shrimp appetizer which was tasty. From there is went down hill. At 7:45PM and hour after being seated we still had not received our entrees. I refrained from saying anything since it was a Saturday night. Fast forward to 8:15PM the people next to us arrived after us and we're paying their check. I started to get annoyed. The waiter sensing my frustration came over and said I spoke with my manager he will come speak with you. The manager who I understand now to be the owner came over to apologize. From that point it was still 30 mins before we got our entrees. So two hours to get Entrees, several tables had came after and left during this time. My kids also ordered a scoop of chocolate ice cream. 20 mins later that still not had arrived. Our waiter came up and said the other waitress forgot to put the order in. When the check came there manager took off the kids chocolate ice cream and our expresso. Yippppeee!!! It's not about money it's solely about principle in these situations. We all know foodies have no problem paying for good food and good service.I would have rather they not take anything off the bill then what they did. Dinner for two adults and two kids $200 with tip and that includes a $40 bottle of wine. My wife said the shrimp was not great, my NY Strip was actually good but waiting for two hours just ruined it. Special shout out to Chef David Snyder and his team for giving my parents the most fantastic experience in their chef's room! My parents are still very covid conscious and haven't been out much since the pandemic so I wanted to do something special for my dad's birthday. But life happened and I procrastinated till few days before when I realized I had nothing planned. I contacted Chef David Snyder to see if he could help me come up with something special for the occasion. He was super responsive and spent a lot of time to help me come up with a personalized dining experience for my parents. He suggested to have them dine in the chef's room with their own server to avoid the Friday night crowd. I was a little hesitant at first because I was worried my parents would feel awkward eating alone but I am so glad I listened! My parents were SHOCKED and pleasantly surprised when the server took them to the private chef's room. They kept sending pictures to show me how beautiful it was. My parents had ahi tuna and crispy shrimp appetizers, kale salad, soft shell crab, sea urchin pasta, whole fish, and strawberry tart. My parents said everything was spectacular but they LOVED ahi tuna appetizer and whole fish. My mom kept sending me pictures throughout the night to tell me how much she loved everything (I was having serious FOMO and regretted not tagging along haha). They said their server was super attentive and made sure they had everything they needed without being intrusive. Chef David even came out to greet my parents and made sure they liked everything they tried. My parents are still RAVING about the amazing meal they had. I used to live in NYC so my parents have been to their share of nice restaurants in the city. They told me they enjoyed their dining experience here more than other restaurants and now this is their new favorite. It was Daniel previously! I am so thrilled to have this little gem here in Fairfield County. I can tell chef David Snyder takes great pride in what he does and really cares that all of his diners have fantastic meals at his restaurant. Just Wow. Absolutely delicious from start to finish; with service and ambiance to match. The garlic spicy shrimp was probably the best shrimp dish I've ever had. It was that good. We also had the scallops appetizer which was perfectly cooked and deliciously prepared. Everyone loved the short rib Mac and cheese, and the crispy cod was maybe my favorite dish of all. We enjoyed it so much we went back two days later for brunch and enjoyed the meal just as much. Servers and hostesses regularly came by to check on us, and chef Dave came by and we chatted for 5 minutes, and ended up getting a tour of the Chef's table room. Beautifully renovated and wonderful atmosphere. On a Saturday night, we had to wait about 40 minutes for a table. We stood in the bar area by the cozy fireplace and had a drink. Once seated, we got drinks right away, but it took 30 minutes to get table bread and our entrees took over an hour to come out. Other tables had long waits as well. I enjoyed the creative cocktail names. The food was delicious. We shared the spicy shrimp appetizer, and I had the wild boar pappardelle. It was perfect. Visited for the 3rd time last Thursday with a large group! First time was at the bar (wine & apps) was fabulous & sold me on the quality of the food and first rate presentation. Second time, took my family for a birthday celebration. Everyone including the CIA educated chef at the table approved. Last week, brought 19 foodies for dinner and it was as good as it gets. Notables: the service (first rate, both the server and food runners), braised pork belly, tuscan kale & brussel sprouts salad, char grilled octopus, french dip, and the zucchini linguini (unusual and amazingly flavorful entree with just a vegetable. its all in the preparation). There will be a 4th time as this is a keeper and I highly recommend this over several other choices in the Brick Walk Plaza. read more

David and Ted have created a comfortable and warm atmosphere as well where you are welcome and appreciated. Decided to try this place on a whim after seeing the great reviews. It's a new spot in town so I was excited to see what they did with the space. Even though they don't take reservations, we were seated right away around 7:00pm on a Friday. The bread was delicious served with a refreshing dip. They kept replenishing, which was appreciated. We ordered the lamp meatball appetizer, wild boar bolognese and pork chop entree's. The lamb meatball appetizer was on the smaller side with only two meatballs but the flavor was certainly there. I recommend ordering more for parties larger than 2. The main course portions made up for the starter. The wild boar bolognese was delicious. The grilled berkshire pork chop entree was perfectly cooked. Both me and my girlfriend left very satisfied. I recommend skipping their normal and go for the 'chef's inspirations' menu. It's a bit of an up sell but definitely worth it. Service was great! They changed cutlery between courses and we never felt rushed even though service was beginning to pick up by the time we left. The only downside to the entire dinner was that the drinks were on the weaker side. Ordered the brick walk smash and didn't really taste much bourbon but it was a tasty and refreshing drink. All in all, we had a great time and will read more
