The manager is an amazing person!! A group of us who had never been there, half live in Southern Delaware and half in Northern Delaware so this was a good halfway point. Came for lunch on Sat. Three of the 11 beers they have on Tap they were out of. Ordered Big Pig BBQ sandwich. Served with French fries. Well, no crispy onions on the sandwich at all. Like the other reviews on this, I enjoyed the beer and the food. However the staff were incredibly rude and not welcoming at all. It almost felt like we were an inconvenience to them by being there. Our waitress was the worst. Several times, she walked away from us mid-sentence. This was during an order and she came back 10 minutes later and asked us what we wanted. We had to repeat ourselves because she wasn't paying attention. Our food arrived quick but there were several errors in our order. An easy fix but it took 15 minutes to get our waitress attention. And no, it wasn't busy at all. When we finally got our order fixed. We didn't get an apology or anything. Good beer, GREAT food. We were looking for something to eat on our way back from Ocean City and were so so glad that we couldn't find a Chic Fil A near by, because this was way way better. We had the Bleu Cheese Rolls (which were delicious!!!), the Schnitz (such a big sandwich & the fried egg was a great touch), and the Brisket Sandwich (so tender!). I'll preface this by saying I come here often and 9 times out of 10 I get the same thing... the Brisket Pot Roast, and it is delicious. However on this visit (Thursday evening) a few minutes after ordering I hear that they have run out but I was good to go. When the meal came out I was presented with 1/3 the portion of brisket as normal. I would have had no issue switching my order from my norm and having something else; if I would have been informed that I was going to get cut short. Portion control is something to be desired here and not the first time I've noticed the portion sizes drop here. This place was recommended to me by my Dad who still lives in Delaware. The locals and my friends down there love it. It is in a great location on Rt. 13 and their farm to table menu and craft beer is what drew me here. Our server Jen was super awesome with even being a little overwhelmed as she had the whole room to herself on a busy Monday after a Nascar race the day before. There were plenty of businessmen and locals to fill the room. We ordered the brisket blue cheese spring rolls as an appetizer and it was amazing with the sauce it came with. Our entrees were seasoned well although my burger was slightly over cooked. She had he Turkey Rueben and loved it. We sat next to the kitchen and could actually hear our orders called out as they were made. The craft beers we sampled (7 out of the 10 on tap) were solid and wouldn't leave any craft beer fan disappointed. Went here with a larger party and received subpar service . I'm not sure what the servers issue was with my husband but she walked away as he was mid sentence, completely forgot one of our kids orders, and never checked back on the table. I def understand being busy and having slower service but that is no excuse for lazy service. She mixed up the break down of our checks several times while we were trying to pay and took forever to come back to the table so we could finish paying and leave. The place was extremely warm and seating was cramped. I wanted to order dessert, growlers to go and needed ranch for my entree but she took so long I finished before she ever came back and didn't want to wait even longer for additional added items. The food itself and beer were pretty good. We'd def come back for growlers. But this would not be my first choice for a dinner with a large party. I've visited 4 times. To start, they are always out of menu items. Every time. They run a lunch menu on Saturday, which is annoying because the lunch menu isn't that great! Only 6 appetizers and a few sandwiches! I went in yesterday at 3:15 pm and was presented with the lunch menu. I asked about about the dinner menu and was told the kitchen wasn't ready (why? Why don't your cooks come in to prep before the restaurant opens?). However, everyone who came to the bar after that was given the dinner menu. I ordered wings and a cheeseburger. The menu is not GI friendly with mushrooms on many items. It took half an hour to get the wings. I ordered the cheeseburger rare and it came out medium well. I actually want both items together, I'm at the bar, I don't need several courses. They possibly use MSG in their food. My stomach felt terrible the rest of the day. Just on this alone I won't be returning. It's never great to eat a meal and then be sick the rest of the day. That was my last time. The staff is not very professional at all. The bartender never refilled my ice tea at any point during the meal. He's too busy talking and most of the other staff just hang around the bar. read more

I will give this a two-star instead of a one-star for the simple reason that I know they were newly opened, and it can take some time for a new restaurant to get going smooth. I should give it a one-star for the simple reason that they boast on their website of the all-star line up of founders of the restaurant (Abbott's Grill, Nage, Mispillion River Brewing) - and yet everything from service to food was sub-par at best. As a matter of fact, part of the reason that I choose here to celebrate Fathers Day with my family is because of those listed credentials. And when we showed up at about 4:30, the place was packed, so I took that to be a very good sign. There were no seats immediately available, but we were told the outside patio was open if we wanted. Since we have had a few good times at Abbott's Grill patio, we said absolutely. The hostess said, "we haven't gotten the umbrellas up, or whatever they are doing out here, so it might be kinda hot." With all that restaurant experience, how could that have been overlooked with a summer opening? It was a long wait to get some service, but I was happy to overlook that with it being busy inside and us being the only folks seated outside. When the waitress came, she had shorts on that were borderline obscene. The tattoos and piercings didn't offend me in least, but with it being Fathers Day the place was full of families (mine included) and my children saw a little more than they should have. She was very friendly and apologized for the long wait. As I opened my mouth to order some appetizers, she cut me off to inform me that they were out of chicken tenders, brisket (which essentially eliminated 3 - 4 menu items that I was considering), and something else which escapes me at the moment. That was frustrating, and again - a very non-experienced restauranteur move. They were seriously out of some staple menu items at about 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon in June? No worries, plenty of options, we order the beer cheese fondue and pretzels. When it finally arrived, there were no pretzels. One measly skinny little tiny loaf of a wanna-be french bread - and no mention from the server of them also being out of pretzels. My wife suggested we mention it to her, but there would be no point in doing so. I ordered the Pork Schnitzel sandwich, which was ok at best. A couple of my kids ordered wings as a meal and said they were very good. Another one ordered the classic burger, and said it tasted "ok" as well. I'm not bashing the place, just being honest about my experience. Disappointing for a place with a such pedigreed owner/management/chef group. And costly. Very busy due to the excitement of a new business in town. We tried two different times in one night to get a two bar seats. (It happened to be the craft crawl) Food- I appreciated that they took a unique gastropub approach to the menu. It all looked really exciting on paper. We ordered the cream cheese dip, oops i meant crab artichoke dip. Very overly cream cheesy and kind of overwhelming after a few bites. The pretzel loaf was good though, we joked they forgot to give us a bagel instead, for all the cream cheese. We did not like the brisket nachos. The chips and beef needed salt. The cheese was in the form of a beer cheese sauce that was watered down and puddled in the bottom. They put this "chow chow" like cabbage slaw on them with didn't really do much for the dish. Very blah all together. Beer- Typical in a good way. Definitely craft but nothing shockingly new or unique. They do feature other local brews as well. Service- The bartender was clearly overwhelmed but handled it nicely. Was on top of everything. I witnessed him deflect many rude comments with professionalism. I had lunch here yesterday and dinner today, b/c yes they are that great. Came w/ 3 others for lunch and we all had the pick 3 lunch special. The wraps were delicious, but the soups ( crab and beer and bacon) were amazing, and I am a make it from scratch soup chef myself, so high praise indeed. For dinner I had another bowl of the beer and bacon soup and the salmon BLT. Fish was perfectly cooked, as in still juicy and rare, the sauce had capers in it which was a nice touch, and fries with skins were done right. I ended everything with a bite of the key lime pie. Excellent food, service and craft beers (always something different each time we're there). The nacho platter is the best within a hundred miles of Smyrna. The freshness of the chips, salsa, jalapeños topped off with cheese, creme fresh, chicken, pork and brisket is off the hook. My friend had the pork schnitzel at my recommendation because it was the very first dish I had there years ago. It was done to perfection and he loved it. I had the traditional chicken wings which I always have (my wife and I tend to share two or three appetizers). They have a new appetizer in the form of Italian long hot peppers served on a toasted garlic brioche (I think), with shredded Parmesan on top, very good, but, only two pieces of bread with one long hot pepper spilt between them. It was tasty, but, as a full blooded Italian from the northeast, it wasn't what I was expecting. My experience with long hots being served as an appetizer is about six peppers slit open long ways, then filled with thin slices of sharp provolone cheese and drizzled with olive oil and placed under a broiler until the cheese melts and begins to bubble. Then, plated and served with a side of crusty Italian bread or garlic bread!!! Otherwise, we enjoyed our food as always and my friend was duly impressed with our choice of establishment for dinner. read more

We were driving home to NJ from southern Delaware and decided to look for a place to stop for lunch. We had two dogs with us so need somewhere with an outside patio (too hot to leave dogs in the car). I found Brick Works on my phone and could not have been more pleased. The food was excellent, all freshly prepared. We had the bacon wrapped figs and they were excellent. My husband's turkey reuben was outstanding, and my falafel was also excellent. This is one of our favorite around town restaurants. We visit a few times a month. I love the Brick chicken and the beef barley soup and my husband loves the famous Pork Schnitzel sandwich and handout fries. The newest addition we love are the empanadas as the appetizer.
