I was really looking forward to this place opening up in Williamsburg, since the night life here is really poor. I've never reviewed any place before, but the actions and attitude of management was so egregious that I felt compelled to share the story. I gave this place a fair shot and have visited the brickhouse tavern on two separate occasions with a very postive and open mind because I sincerely wanted a different hang out. I was outside smoking a cigarette when my friend went inside to get a beer. There's two outside patios with chairs and tables enclosed by a short metal gate. I was sitting on the curb of the street when my friend walked outside to ask me what kind of beer I wanted to order and within seconds of him stepping outside a guy bust out of the door and throws his drink into the street, immediately turns around, walks back inside, and on the way back says "can't take drinks out"...... I understand you can't take alcohol out into the street but he should have simply tapped my friend on the shoulder and asked him to step back inside , or walk over to the outside patio. I've never seen an employee rip anything out of a customers hands before. It was extremely unprofessional. So I jumped up and confronted the guy back in the restaurant, flagged him over, and told him how pissed off I was. He was very unempathetic and justified his actions by citing the law that you can't take drinks outside and there's a $10,000 fine for doing so if his establishment got caught. I understand and I'm not disagreeing, but he used a sledge hammer to go after a fly, there were other options available, like asking my friend to go back inside.... I was looking for an apology, and at the very least a beer on the house, so I asked to see a manager. HE WAS THE OWNER.... I couldnt believe that the owner was so nonchalant about customer service. After demanding for a new beer, he did provide one, but he refused to give an apology ( I didn't ask for one, but I was expecting him to say something). But okay, I really want this place to work out for me, there's no need to let this one incident ruin the whole experience forever, so I wanted to mend the wounds and after sitting there for a little while I flagged him over while he was walking by, and I apologized. I told him I was sorry, I didn't want him to think we were dickheads, and I was expecting him to reciprocate and say he acted out of anger and never should have touched a customer and ripped something out of his hands....Nope, this guy simply listens to me real quick and says "it's okay I understand". He looked legimately bothered by the fact he had to grace me with his presence again, he couldnt wait to get away from me. And that's the moment I decided, I'm never going back there. The owner is a total dick, and I hope his buisness fails, as I'm sure it is bound to do with his shitty customer skills. I feel bad for the bank that approved him the loan. Here's some advice, the customer is always right.
Anyway, on a side note, they really had good pizza, the place is aesthetically pleasing and conveniently located. But I like to get treated well when I'm out, especially when there's only 8 other people in the bar. The bartender also had poor people skills, I wouldn't recommend this place, with any luck they'll go out of business soon and new management can make something better happen. read more
