A great place to get any missing pieces you need. The staff is friendly, and there are huge tables full of loose pieces to look through,

The LEGO lovers in our family are autistic and need a sensory friendly environment in terms of it being calm and quiet. How is the stimulation at this store in terms of lights, music, etc.?

While the wife and daughter were browsing artsy and crafty items, there were a lot of interesting…read morenon-arts and crafts merchandise on sale that fit my interest a lot more. I haven't come in to browse and shop for a year or so since Hobby Lobby isn't usually my cup of tea type of place, but I was surprised that they've expanded (or I did not notice before) their games, puzzles, and books selections. In particular, I like board and card games and there was a good selection of games and it was nice to hold in hand and read descriptions to buy tangibly instead of online. They even have some clothing items like they had some winter beanies and hats on clearance from Christmas time. Dabbling in drawing occasionally, it was nice to see a big variety of drawing and painting pads to choose from. What surprised me was that some (maybe all?) of them were Made in Italy, which hopefully means better quality. The rest of Hobby Lobby seems to be made in China, so those paper pads seem a good deal in comparison. Another area that was a pleasant surprise were toys on sale here, again maybe it's b/c I didn't notice before, but there's a bunch of different little kids toys and stuffed animals and these squishy animal things my kids tell me about that are all on sale here even though this is supposed to be like an arts and crafts store? Maybe stuffed toys are "hobbies"? Either way, I found it convenient that I can get some gifts for little kids in my life (friends' kids, or my kids' friends, or nieces and nephews) here instead of having to go into a toy store which I try to avoid, especially now that my kids are older. All in all, Hobby Lobby is better than I remember the last I visited. I also saw many different sizes and versions of bibles and other inspiration books for sale, and tons of decor for home and the office. My wife purchased something and I didn't but the cashier was friendly and quick. So service seems good. Turns out this place is pretty cool and for anyone, it's really a big comprehensive place and not just for those into arts and crafts, Hobby Lobby's changed my previous perception of their store and I think I'll stop by once in awhile for some games, toys, and maybe books.

If you value your time and money, think twice before coming here to sell. In the past I've sold at…read morethe Folsom location, where I've had good experiences, but decided to try the Elk Grove location today and had a terrible experience. I called ahead to make sure they were actively buying and to gauge interest before taking the time to load everything up and make the drive over. The employee assured me I would not have any issues and to just come on by. Upon arrival the first employee was friendly, polite, and helpful. I explained that I was there to sell and had also brought in several LEGO collectors items that I planned to include as part of the deal at no extra cost, as a show of good faith. I had brought in roughly a dozen sets worth several hundred dollars to sell so it took around 20 minutes to perform the appraisal, but once done he gave me a price and explained the evaluation of each set. Whenever I sell at a store I expect to sell for much less than I do when I sell direct to consumer myself, but I'm willing to make that trade-off for the convenience of dealing in person and in bulk; however, the prices I was offered here ranged from low to outright laughable (up to 60% less than historical sales values online). While the prices were bad I was still willing to make a sale in order to save myself time. I asked for additional details about their evaluations, which the employee happily provided, and told them I wanted to take a few minutes to review the offer and perform due diligence before deciding how I wanted to proceed. It was at this point that things went from bad to worse. As I was reviewing the numbers, another employee came out from the back and immediately started making comments (ostensibly to his coworker, but very much audible to me) about how the first employee had offered too much on set X, that set Y wouldn't sell for very much, that they had too many of set Z, etc. After a minute or two of that, the first employee went on break. The second employee then proceeded to start asking me questions that made me feel pressured, like if I was ready or what I was looking up. I started to feel uncomfortable and asked if I was holding him up or anything, as he seemed annoyed, but he reassured me that they were open for several more hours and that I could take my time. I went back to looking up information online and a moment later the second employee said that he was rescinding the offer and that they were no longer interested in buying anything. This totally took me by surprise, as at this point I had not even made a single comment about their offer or attempted to negotiate -- I had just been asking questions and looking up information. It was abundantly clear to me that the employee was attempting to pressure me into accepting a bad deal, so I knew I should cut my losses and leave. Out of curiosity I asked why they had changed their mind. The employee said that they had a warehouse full of such sets and that they didn't need more. If that was the case, they could have told me so on the phone when I initially called to find out as much. He then made one more offer (for $100 less than the already bad initial offer), which I declined and left. The whole experience felt like a bait-and-switch -- get you in the store, then pressure you into accepting a lowball offer. I'd recommend the Folsom location or perhaps the new Bricks and Minifigs instead if you're looking to sell.

This building in particular used to be the old Mervyn's store that sadly went out of business. I have been coming here over the last few years usually to look for ideas and accessories for costumes I already have in my closet, but on occasion, I find a new costume that I must have to add to my collection! This place is always busy with customers, and for good reason - they carry a multitude of merchandise! The store is pretty well laid out by themes and types of costumes via departmentalizing with traditional, scary, cute, weird, sexy, movie or TV based shows for both children and adults complete with masks, make up, wigs, jewelry, and matching accessories. The costumes are usually comfortable despite the utilization of somewhat cheap materials. But since they are just costumes and the prices are competitive, I can't complain too much! There is also a nice and extensive selection of party decorations all the way up to elaborately scary, electronically run, movable props for the serious Halloween devotee. My recent visit here was for some last minute updates to my Cleopatra costume. Even though it was Halloween day, and the store was pretty well cleared out of a lot of merchandise, I was excited to find a new dress in my size of small! Unlike Evangeline's where I went there two weeks earlier to find nothing that I liked in my size or even for Joe K. The employees were friendly during the "zoo" type atmosphere of last minute shoppers. I want to give a shout out to the nice young lady who checked out my purchase. She was very nice to me and apologized profusely as she had trouble with her register ringing me up. It took some time for a manager to notice she needed help. During the wait she continued to greet entering customers and give helpful directions. When the manager finally remedied the situation, she apologized again, making sure that I was not impatient or annoyed and wanted me to have a good time at my upcoming Halloween party! So unlike Lyla S' bad review, I have no complaints. It's a busy, high energy costume store. Don't expect a relaxing shopping experience unless you go really early in the season.
