Very nice in person but apparently it takes an hour to change oil on a 1200 sportster....that's weird, takes me 25 min max both oils now that I know what I'm doing. Non Harley brand spark plugs were used. They took apart my carb said nothing was wrong with it so did not put it on the invoice and told me to just ride with the choke out because it was coughing ended up burning a hole in the diaphragm.... Again at this time I was very ignorant to mechanics and motorcycles now I am more informed In the end they charged me $400 for both oil change, new handlebar risers ,off brand spark plug's and a new pet kock (that they had to go get from Harley) Way overpriced!! Called 2 years later which is today to potentially get a new back tire put on my bike. I brought up the bad experience I had in the past the owner got extremely defensive called me a liar and told me not to ever call his shop again. Can't wait to see his comments on this review if you read all the reviews on this shop's yelp page it will be a good laugh and kind of disgusting on how much this shop gets away with in regards to shitty customer service..... All in all if you're smart you'll take your business elsewhere. read more

Lemme tell you a little something about Bridge City Cycles. The first time I went in I just needed a battery charged; they did it for free and I rode on my merry way. I've been there numerous times since and always enjoyed wonderful service from them. I've had a new headlight installed, new tires (They had a sale on tires at the time :D) new rotor and brakes installed, among other things. There service has always been quick and very fairly priced. I've gone to other shops before and had to pay much more, wait longer, and sometimes even find faults in their work. I've never found issues like that at Bridge City. Anthony and everyone else there are very competent and thorough. I've suggested my friends go here before and from what I've heard they've also had great experiences. I love to support local business and it's just the sweetest thing when that business is quality like it is here. read more

Started out great, ended not so good. Bike was never fixed to ridable condition. It was in the shop for quite a while ... the longer it went, the more I think he just wanted to be done with it, and got it running, and sent it out the door. I was then pretty much ghosted when tried to contact about it. When I finally got a response he tried to blame it on an electrical part, but it was the carburetor pilot jets that were the problem, and supposedly the carburetor was rebuilt. No wonder he advised me not to try and ride it home, saying the tires were the issue. Spent a lot of money to get my bike up and running again...... but it never got to the point of ridable. Felt pretty screwed over from that experience. read more

2 yrs ago I purchased a bike that did not run. I needed to find a shop that was open and able to check the bike over. Anthony was professional, friendly, and helped me figure out what necessary repairs were needed. He called me with updates over the next two weeks. Price was reasonable and the day I picked it up he walked me through some basic tips and tricks. I was a new rider. I've brought my bike to him ever since for tune ups, quick fixes, and most recently stopped by to pick up new spark plugs. He took a few extra minutes and did a walk around to check over the bike. I needed new tires for my '81 CX500 and two co-workers suggested I check out this local shop... I live in North Portland so I checked out Bridge City Cycles and another North Portland bike shop for tire availability and prices. Bridge City had more tire options, could get the tire for my needs quicker, prices were competitive (a bit better than the other shop near my house for comparable tires) and it just felt like I was more welcome in Bridge City than the other shop. In addition to new front & rear tires they also suggested I replace my steering head bearings. I knew they needed to be replaced but was hoping to do that down the road. I decided to have them do it since my front wheel was already off and I'd save a little on labor if I did it the same time as the tires (they also happened to have the bearings on hand and could likely finish it the same day).... It's like I dropped off my motorcycle this morning and picked up a better bike this evening!! I had no idea the bad steering head bearings were affecting the bike's handling as much as they did. They said I'd notice a difference in how it rides and I sure did, can't wait for this weekend to ride some more! I'm definitely going back for future parts and service needs. read more

Even though it is right in the thick of motorcycle season, I received super quick service on both times I have brought my '64 Honda dream in. Anthony gave me an estimated time that my tires would be replaced and then let me know it would be late because I needed a new chain as well. This is the only place in Portland that I'll be taking my motorcycle. Last season Glenn took great care of my '79 Honda, and this summer Anthony was able to fit in a new battery within 48 hours, when there were enough bikes lined up that i was looking at a 2-3 week wait time. I have only ever great experiences with BCC. I do not know the circumstances of the reviewers who were unhappy but I can honestly say my experiences have been nothing like theirs. Yes they do get busy, but when you are as good as they are it comes with the territory. I won't take my bikes (sportster or CB350) anywhere else. read more

I've brought my bike (83 GPZ 550) to Bridge City on 2 occasions. They have done a great job and worked hard to source difficult to find parts and prioritize safety items first on a bike that has a long list of things that need attention. They did not hesitate to take my bike and given its age many other shops in town are too squeamish to even try to work on it - I greatly appreciate that. They literally had to chase parts down from around the country and did a great job of keeping me informed of the progress. I'm guessing some of the lower ratings here are related to earlier days when communications/customer interface was still being worked out. I think they have this nailed down now and strike a balance between a person running the front office (thanks Megan!) and mechanics who are more than willing to step out and take time to talk to you about your bike. Prices are reasonable and I've never been handed a surprise invoice when I picked up my bike. Would recommend the shop to anyone. read more

These guys are great. I took my Fatboy in to do a rim swap and it turned into this big ordeal that they handled wonderfully. BCC ended up doing some needed repairs to the bike, a couple of which were safety issues and were more than fair in billing for their time, as I know they spent hours tracking parts down for what I needed. This was my first visit to Bridge City Cycles. I took my 750 Magna in for chain and sprockets replacement. I was told that it would be about 2.5 weeks since there were 4 bikes ahead of me. I didn't mind the wait because I have heard good things about Bridge City Cycles. They ordered and received my parts and did the maintenance quickly. They got me back on the road for summer in 1.5 weeks. The cost for parts and maintenance was affordable and now my bike is running great! I'll definitely be bringing my bike here again in the future. Anthony has kept my '86 Suzuki running like it's new for the last three years. His wife Megan, who predominantly handles customer service is one of the nicest people around. I really don't know about the negative comments here or what was involved with said bikes, but I hate to see a business lambasted by a couple of bad Yelp reviews. Bridge City has treated me fairly on price and estimates, taken care in their work, and been timely with the repairs/maintenance I've needed. After three years of consistently positive interaction I have no urge to seek out a shiny dealership or trendy 'racer' shop that's just going to charge me more. read more

I took my motorcycle to Bridge City Cycles for my first ever maintenance check-up, and they were fantastic. They ordered a new battery, checked my fluids and tires (pressure turned out to be surprisingly low) and gave me helpful advice on future maintenance since I've only been riding for a little over a year. They seem reliable and they're very friendly. I would definitely get my bike serviced here again in the future. The owner engaged in a highly unprofessional way with my boyfriend, charging him $500 for a fix that should've cost way less and then it burned a hole in his bike, and they claimed ignorance and when he contacted him not once but twice they denied any wrong doing and forged the invoice to say that he didn't have carb work done when they did do it and it burnt a hole in his bike and had to get everything plus more done at Harley instead. Absolutely horrible customer service, when he called to address the issue the employee hung up on him repeatedly after completely denying any wrong doing. Absolutely horrific to hear my man deal with this terrible business. Hard to support local when they handle things this way... read more

A better name for this shop would be Hotel California; "you can come in any time you like but you can never leave". Minor fabrication estimated (in writing) 2 to 3 weeks with quoted cost estimate "+ or - 20% that ended up being +120% ... With no completion time insight, I simply went and got it after 9 MONTHS. Work incomplete and improperly performed. A had another shop fix most of their non-fabrication poor craftsmanship who did it in 8 days at cost of $600. A college friend who is an attorney stated any legal representation would simply shift dollars from Anthony (BCC) to an attorney. My advice is avoid this place. read more

I wound up losing the whole summer with my bike in and out of the shop and every time I picked it up there was some major safety problem with the bike that I'm lucky didn't cause me to get into a serious accident. I'll save you the read, this is a great shop and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I'm actually kind of surprised by some of the other reviews I've read. My first bike was a home-built custom hard tailed ratrod I bought purely because I liked the looks. It was a barebones bobber and being a new rider, I wanted to get some signal lights, ditch the apes, shorten the cables, add front brakes, a horn, mufflers and wire it all up to work as it was supposed to. I was going for a vintage World War II ERA look more than a dirtbag chopper. I went to a couple shops and either they didn't want to touch the bike or they just didn't understand my ideal build. After taking it to shop after shop I finally found Bridge City Cycles and met Anthony. When he first saw the bike he wasn't concerned at all. He started pointing out several issues that needed to be addressed that I wasn't even aware of. He informed me there were several customers ahead of me though and although, he was willing to do the work, I should expect it's going to take time just to get started. I told him I only had a budget of about $1500 and he said he'd do his best to work with that but with all the mounting fabrication, there's a good chance that's not going to cut it. I didn't like the sound of that but I was beginning to understand after talking to the other shops, that's just how this business goes. At least in his case, I felt that he understood my vision. He even showed me a couple pictures of other bikes he's worked on that had elements of exactly what I was looking for. I had just got my license and was ready to start riding, the wait to get my bike upstairs was killing me. I'm sure I was probably really annoying with all the follow ups but if so, he never showed it. At one point, he did need to remind me of our first conversation but he wasn't a dick about it. In hindsight, I was warned, even though I was little pissed at the time. I think he got that I just wanted my bike back so I could start riding, I wasn't trying to be a difficult customer. It was probably a month before he started working on the bike and he called me back to show me several things we hadn't talked about. The bike was a mess. The fork seals, rear brake pads, rectifier and the rear rim were shot on top of everything else I needed. To help me out on my budget, he showed me how to change the rear brake, talked to me about replacing fork seals and gave me leads on finding some harder to find vintage parts I was going for on my own. He also came up with some really cool adds like braided cable for the brake lines, clutch and throttle cable, mount designs for the signal light placements I wanted and even pulled a used rectifier out of a drawer that I ultimately didn't end up being charged for. All and all the bike came out looking great. It took about 4 months but was only about $300 over my original budget which included all the extra crap he found after getting started. The bike gets tons of attention and I couldn't be happier. I've learned a lot since that first bike. I have three now. Everyone of them has been to Bridge City. I will say that the typical repairs took much less time and to date, have always been within a few dollars of the original estimates. Straight ahead repairs on stock parts seems to be a whole other ball game over there. One exception was a fuel pump on the second bike. The stock one was $150 but he showed me how to swap it with an aftermarket one that cost $35. He also showed me how to make my own mount and didn't charge me anything for the consultation. Anthony, intentionally or not, has taught me how to buy a bike, take care of all the typical maintenance crap, locate deals on parts and that some things are pretty easy to fix on my own. He also set an understanding of what customizations mean. One of a kind, handmade from raw materials. Parts that have never been made before. They're going to take however much time they're going to take and until that happens, it's a guessing game as to what they're going to cost. If you think vintage or custom bike repair should be like getting your tires replaced at Les Schwab, you should probably go buy a brand new bike, leave it stock and pay twice as much at the dealer for typical maintenance. I saw a Venn Diagram once I wish I could attach to this review, three circles, one is, "good", one is, "fast" and the last is, "cheap". In the center where the three circles meet, it says, "pick two". Not actually how a Venn is supposed to work but apt when we're talking about vintage/custom motorcycles. It comes down to this, this shop is owned and operated by riders looking to get other riders out riding as quickly and affordably as possible. They didn't choose my bike. I did. Bridge City is just the shop that's kept it on the road over the last three years. It's really that simple. read more

TL;DR Anthony pours his guts into his shop, thrives on feedback, and makes it right. I started bringing my bike (Honda CB550f) to Bridge City a few months back. I had taken the advice of a friend to go to his shade tree guy. Shade tree agreed to look over my bike after a share of hemming and hawing, and while talking asked "have you ever talked to Anthony at Bridge City? He races one of these things." I decided that was good enough for me to at least have a conversation. I popped in to Bridge City and spoke with Megan at the counter, and Anthony, who came down from the shop to introduce himself personally. I talked with him about what I wanted done, what my budget was, and what my concerns were. This go-round was a top-end, and carb rebuild. We ordered the parts and I waited patiently for my turn on the table. I took my bike in and dropped it off once all the parts had come in, and asked for a ballpark on the time. I was told two weeks, that there was a bike ahead of me, and that it was almost done. Two weeks came and went so I called and was told the previous bike had been delayed, etc etc. (insert miscellaneous shop excuse here). I continued to check in over the next couple weeks, as did they. The timeframe ended up being about twice as long as anticipated. Some of the delay was them juggling multiple projects. Some was me, being really stoked to get it done and pushing the bike on them when I heard my parts were there, and not being deliberate about setting a firm appointment with them for drop off when I was up instead of just jumping in the queue. There were some issues getting things dialed in, but Anthony persevered, sorted it out, called me about the details to get my go ahead, and made it happen. I got my bike back all rebuilt and pretty, as well as a comprehensive list of "trouble areas" to look at in short order (many of which I knew already from riding the thing - chain/brakes/etc). I got my ducks in a row and ordered parts for round two and rode around in the meantime. While I was waiting on my parts I noticed some issues with loss of power in the midrange revs and sent an email out to Anthony to give him a heads up that something wasn't right (this was a new issue presenting post top-end). We made a plan to add it to the list when we did the brakes, chain, and sprockets. Parts came in for round two, Megan called me up and we set an appointment to ease the delay issue from last time (I told them how frustrating the lag time was for me). I dropped my bike off as scheduled and waited to hear she was done. Then the call came. "Do you want the good news, or the bad news". The good news: my work was all done. The bad: Anthony had taken my bike out for a test ride/ safety check and the brakes locked up on him and he dropped it. Everyone was okay, and the damage was cosmetic. The shop was covering it 100% but it was going to hold up me getting it back. Get it back I did. I rode off just shy of a week behind schedule and happy as a clam. I noticed some continued troubles with power, and the brakes were not feeling right. I emailed Anthony again, and gave him a run down. He asked me when I had a chunk of free time, and we set a time for me to sit in with him while we walked through troubleshooting together. He came and picked me and my bike up and trucked us to the shop and spent his Saturday morning figuring this out. He was very helpful, and informative. Telling me what he was doing, answering my questions, explaining the processes. We got everything squared away, solved the power issue, worked the kinks out of the brakes and got her back to her old self. Two days later I was running an errand and my clutch cable snapped. I also had noticed that my brake light wasn't coming on with the front brake lever. I hit Anthony up and told him my problems. He set an appointment with me, made a house call and sorted it out on the spot. The 4 stars are because it wasn't "right the first time" but there is no way I'd go lower because Anthony wasn't satisfied until I was. Working with Anthony, Megan, and all the Bridge City crew has been an awesome experience. These guys thrive on information (don't be afraid to be proactive, they are great about being "bugged") and are more than willing to take those extra steps to make sure you walk away happy. read more

Great people and great service! I can't speak to the mechanical side since I've never brought my Ducati in for mechanical service (They don't work on finicky old Italians, try Cheshire for that.) But I can attest to their paint, powder coat, grinding, chopping and body work! I've brought my project bikes parts in for all kinds of weird stuff and have always been met with a "sure, we can do that!" attitude and I appreciate it! In fact, Anthony painted my tank 3 times before he got it exactly like I wanted. His communication and easy demeanor make it a joy to give him my money. I only wish I could get him to take more. Ducati's have 2 cylinders like Harley's it can't be that different to work on mechanically. ;) read more

waste of a 2 hour drive here to get my "rebuilt" carburetors, charged over 400$ to rebuild 4 simple carbs that are already off the bike, the carburetors didn't work at all, all of the chokes were seized and needed to be rebuilt and have the debris cleaned out. nothing inside looked like it was every replaced not even the jets... the gaskets seam old the carbs leaking gas out of the fuel bowl gasket area. the floats are now stuck after repairing the sticky Choke slide I was able to get it started and maybe 1 hour of run time and the floats got stuck leaking gas EVERYWHERE out of the air filters and left me stranded about 1 hour walk away from camp in the sand and ruined my 1 week trip at the sand dunes and had to drive home the night after we got to the dunes... there's another 200$ in diesel, gas and food WASTED plus my time. Well now I'm taking the quad to a trusted mechanic to get it fixed and actually rebuilt. It doesn't look like the gaskets were even replaced for the carbuerator. My powder coat paint job on the quad is peeling now and the paint on the engine is now peeling from the gas leaking onto it. I spent 400$ to have good working carbuerators and now I'm over well over 1000$ having a real shop fix the carburetors and as well matching the powder coat paint job, the engine was flooded up to the air filters on the carbs with gas and leaking out the air filters... I don't know who runs this place but if anyone were to ask me to to recommend a place that knows a good place to have their motorcycle worked on I'd be more likely to recommend jiffy lube than I would this place... at least the jiffy lube manager knows his bikes and can be trusted to make sure when I go out on my next trip to the sand dunes I can be out there knowing the carburetor will work properly... fuck this place. I'll be spending the rest of my 7 day sand dunes trip at home with these "rebuilt" non working carbuerators and now seeing my show bike with its whole side case paint peeling and the blue powdercoat frame peeling. 4 new k&n air filters are now all soaked in gas... I'm very disappointed in my experience and unless these guys have something to do to make this right I will never return here and will send any other moto enthusiasts this way. A 400$ carbuerator rebuild is now leaving me in a bigger hole than I was ever in with the bike. Unbelievable. read more

They usually have what I need in stock, and special orders arrive on time. Anthony has always gone that extra mile to help. Bridge City also is engaged with the local motorcycle racing community, sponsoring a class with the Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Associaion (OMRRA) and supporting numerous racers on both dirt and pavement. That alone is a reason to give Bridge City a shot if you haven't been there before. read more

I took my bike into Bridge City Cycles with the intention of getting new throttle cables, clutch cable, and bar-end mirrors installed. This is work I could have, and should have done on my own. I dropped off the bike shortly before leaving town for a week with the idea that could pick it up and get to riding. When dropping of the bike, I was told that this may take up to a week because they were busy. Two weeks had passed, and I hadn't heard a word from these guys. I called them, and I was told it be another couple of days. I called a couple of days later, and was told I could probably pick the bike up the next day, but they would call me. Needless to say they never called, and I spent nearly the next two months calling them almost everyday. Eventually I requested that I come pick up the bike without the work getting done, and this is when I was told they had just completed the work. This seemed a little shady... I picked the bike up the next, and found the all the parts and labor amounted to nearly $500! I was shocked that the type of work done could cost so much. The worst part of all is that the quality of work was very poor. The cables were routed incorrectly, the throttle handle was loose and didn't really snap back into place, and they never ever installed the mirrors that I had asked for. The bike rode worse, and I ended up having to do all of the work myself in the end. Definitely do not take your bike to these guys. There are a lot of other great shops around town that do quality work, and seem to actually be trustworthy. I learned my lesson on this one. read more

You know, I've read the other reviews and it seems that these guys are experienced in what they do, custom work and whatnot. I'm a relatively new convert to seriously riding, and I called the shop after getting a quote from Latus (because I like to support smaller businesses, even though I don't have a lot of money.) The guy who picked up the phone and said he was the manager talked to me like I was an idiot and told me to "get my shit together". I might not be a motorcycle mechanic but I know better than to drop off my bike with an open-ended invoice waiting for me. Just made me feel stupid because I was asking for a 5k mile tune-up. I was thinking hey, maybe it'll be like 100 bucks more than Latus, but you know....smaller shop, great. But from the very beginning the guy was just flat out rude. It's like going to an indie coffee shop instead of Starbucks and the barista is an asshole to you. No thanks. read more

I can't recommend going to these guys. I really liked them as people but my bike was there 3 months for adding on turn signals and some troubleshooting. I was actually told that I needed to call them to remind them to work on my bike. I asked the guy if he was serious. I finally got my bike back after $650 and there was no noticeable difference in how it rode. I hate to leave a negative review but I've spoke to many friends and have found a shocking number of similar stories. I hope these reviews help them to realize something needs to change in how they run things. read more

This place is GREAT!!! Noticed an oil leak on the top of my 1994 1200 sportster engine and I leave for a trip to San Francisco in less than 2 weeks. I decided to go to Bridge City Cycles because they happen to be close to my house. So happy that I did. The minute I walked through the door I could tell that Anthony was friendly and professional. I'm no mechanic. So many times I've gone to shops in the past and they almost seem to act like you should know more about motorcycles simply cause you own it. Not at Bridge City Cycles. He explained that the gaskets need replacing on the top of the rocker boxes and he would be able to get it done before my trip! They did and well under what I thought it was gonna cost! AWESOME! This place really wants to earn your business and treats you so well that I'll never go anywhere else. I have sent several friends with their Harley's and a friend with a carb issue on his 1972 cb350. All with the same response....."Only Bridge City Cycles!" Where do I start? After waiting for months for them to order parts for carb rebuilds, I called the owner out and told him I would pick my bike up. He then threatened to put a lien on my bike and demanded money (for no work done) to not steal my bike. After I called him out on his empty threat and told him he would lose in court and have to pay for it he begrudgingly "released" my bike to me. Once I went down to the shop he decided to apologize for the incident and asked me to let him finish the work. I agreed, after all he did admit mistake and man'ed up and apologized. Well after about two more months my bike finally was finished. Kudos to the mechanic that worked on it, he was excellent and got the job done right. Too bad for Anthony because his one competent mechanic left to go start his own shop, who according to Anthony was a piece of $#@!. Well keep reading because the story doesn't end there. I brought another bike in for an engine overhaul. The owner, Anthony, told me he could get it done by a certain date. Well the date passed by, no call, nothing. I figure he must have had a snag and give him a couple more weeks before I check up. I call and they haven't even started, they have had my bike for over three months. I told him I was upset that he hasn't met his deadline. I go down to pick up my bike and I tell him it is poor business to take my business with no intention of meeting the conditions we agreed upon. He becomes really upset and starts to insult me, tells me how rough his neighborhood was growing up and how he is going to kick my ass. Well you can imagine how often people that talk about how tough they are actually follow through with their threats. And that is that. If you want a strung out wannabee mechanic to take your bike and put it in the back of the shop for months at a time and threaten you with violence, liens and bills please feel welcome to go to this shop.
