I just want to preface by saying my mom and I enjoy vegetarian cuisine, and we have eaten vegetarian dishes from other Thai restaurants, so we came to Bright Star Thai Vegan thinking we would love it since they even specialize in vegan Thai dishes. The restaurant looked well staffed but of the staff they had, they were on the slow side. My mom and I shared the Bright Star Papaya Salad ($12.99), a large Tom Yum with Veggies ($12.99), and a Pad See Ew with Soy Chicken ($14.99). Once again I would like to emphasize that we tried the avoid dishes from other Thai restaurants, so we know these are dishes we normally enjoy. The papaya salad came out first. The presentation looked nice. As we took one bite... BLAND. What?? Normally this dish is so flavorful. Then the Tom Yum came out full with vegetables. Looked hopefully. BLAND. No notes of lemongrass at all. I questioned if they had any lemon grass in here, but then I bit into one. I noticed it wasn't smashed. Fail. You have to beat up lemongrass to release its essence. Then the pad see ew... SWEET! Whyyyyy is this sooooo sweettttttt??? Disgusting. I would even say inedible. The best thing about the dish was the soy chicken. Most of my reviews are positive, but this was depressingly underwhelming and inedible. Not a great representation of Thai food or Vegan food, as I have tasted better executions of Vegan Thai cuisine.

Food - excellent. Steamed dumplings - $10.99 - very well prepared with a great and fresh filling. Nice dipping sauce. Lunch specials -$12.99- served with a small salad, brown rice and a tasty fried dumpling on a beautiful plate - 1) Orange Chicken - light batter, delicious, crunchy. 2) Yellow Curry Tofu and Potatoes was amazing. Just kept transferring the brown rice to the curry dish. Iced Thai Coffee - fresh, not too sweet, just right. T Iced Tea - very good. Service - Nuchie was absolutely outstanding. Sole server/waitress handling 5 booths with ease, class and a smile. The two chefs were very nice and smiling as they acknowledged us. Loved the way they prepped and presented the plates. Nuchie checked up on and brought us extra dressing and sauces when requested. Atmosphere - simple, mellow and clean. Great vibe. Comfortable booths. It came to $50.55 for the two of us plus tip for a wonderful lunch and afternoon. Bright Star is closed on Wednesdays. The accessible entrance is right up front with no steps.

It's night to have an option on the area for vegan Thai food! The staff is very nice and they do their best to make sure that even your take out order is packed carefully! The potions are also quite big, and they have lunch specials! I am always after a deal! I did knock a star off because I was cautioned that 10 would be too spicy for me and to go for a 5, and there was basically ZERO spice in my meal. I also felt the pad Thai lacked flavor... I tend to like a little wok hei or however it is spelled. I did like the spicy eggplant, except again, there was zero spice. I go to Thailand a lot and while I LOVE spice, I have been humbled more than once over there... oh the stories of how I have been owned would make many have a good laugh....but I should have gone with with my instincts and just got it at the hottest level because there was literally zero spice in my meal.

The food was awesome I would suggest the orange chicken definitely and the pad Thai see ew. These were so delicious I also got the spicy eggplant, yellow miso soup(don't remember what it was called), and the classic fried rice with beef. But none of them stood out as much as the two listed above. Their service was awesome, the servers were really nice, and I enjoyed the fact that it was "family style", definitely a good place to go with friends but alone it could get a bit pricey. Loved that EVERYTHING WAS VEGAN!! Made me very happy as a vegan and was a great place to take my non vegan friends. The only reason this was marked off was because while they do have a few good options a lot of them are just meh or okay.

This is one of the best, but also most affordable, Thai places in the area. We are not vegan, but we have made it here two or three times already. We haven't had a bad dish! The stuff is quick and everything tastes good for a decent price.

We tried four different dishes and all were good - pad Thai, pad see ew, fried rice, and a spicy dish that I can't remember. We had a overall good experience at the restaurant, and the staff was hospitable and kind. Lots of good meat alternatives that weren't exactly meat copycats, but we're good enough to enjoy.

Good to see this place is still doing well after all these years. Been a while since I'd been here. Decided to try it again. Very cool they are a completely vegan Thai restaurant. Place looked just how I remembered it. Went with the bright star vegan pad Thai with vegan chicken. It was delicious and hit the spot. Like everywhere else, prices have definitely gone up over the years here. If you're looking for a fun new take on vegan food, this is a sure spot to try.

Service was courteous and prompt and ambience was average for a Thai restaurant, slightly upscale perhaps. Food - we ordered a few dishes Chicken Sa-tay was ok. Soy based, the peanut sauce could have been better. I've had vegan chicken satay at other places and trust me, seitan based satay done welll tastes better Grilled chicken salad was a complete miss. Cucumbers and tomato slices were so large we had to chop it up ourselves Yellow Curry was overall ok but was a bit strong on the curry powder (or turmeric).

Ahhh this was so good. This is some of the best Thai food I've ever had, vegan aside. The menu is so extensive with so many options too, which is amazing. Today I got the Thai green iced tea, pad see ew with soy chicken, and sweet chili soy fish. Every item was outstanding. I'm already thinking of going back. I cannot wait. This comes second to Norah in Portland so my #1 Thai spot in California and #2 in the country!

The ambiance of the restaurant is always very homey and lively. We ordered the Thai Spicy Mint Fried Rice with Shrimp, Chicken Satay, Fried Calamari, Soft Tofu with Veggies, and Seafood Combos. We come here often because of the food quality and service! It is not only delicious but addictive and authentic Thai food! Would highly recommend.

I enjoy the food, the service is decent, the vibe is pleasant. I come here once or twice a month.

The food here was off the charts! So many mouth watering selections to choose from that makes your head spin and you can't try them all in one visit. I just have to come back frequently and try everything on the menu. We ordered the Pad see ew, chicken satay, green curry, Thai salad and everything was so tantalizing to the tastebuds! Great quality food, great portions, reasonable process. The waitresses here were cute and sweet and service was great. The restaurant was a great dining experience, clean, top notch restaurant...the whole experience was 10/10. I definitely wanna come back here again and try everything on the menu,

Ask the Community - Bright Star Thai Vegan

    Is there outdoor dining options?

No, not right now. It's take out only & the parking lot is tight. So people usually pick up and go. 🤗

Is this place closed indefinitely? We had seen a sign posted on the door indicating they would reopen 10/26-?

They are open! I believe they remodeled, it looks different to me inside. :)

How many people does the a la carte portion (eg. orange chicken) feed, 1-2? Are there any family size portions?

The a la carte Orange Chicken comes with a side of brown rice. It's not a huge portion, if you're really hungry then the portion is enough for one person. But it is an adequate size enough for 2 people to share.

What time is the lunch special?

I know that they open at 11 am-3:30 pm 7.95 lunch specials

It's just as described by other reviewers...Chipotle style establishment with Mediterranean food. The servers work like an assembly line, serving you at different stations. The staff were not overtly friendly. They were just very matter of fact, asking you whether you want rice or salad. The line was very long when we arrived around 6:30 pm but it seemed to move pretty efficiently. I was happy to see that none of the items I wanted were "all out" which often is the case when you go to a Chipotle or custom pizza place like Blaze. The only thing I noticed was that there was litter all throughout the restaurant since the workers appeared to be tied up serving and making food. We got a kids build your own and a bowl. They packed it in with everything we wanted. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious. Dinner was so refreshing. One of my fave items at Cava is their pita chips. I can't wait to go back!!

Well this message is for corporate not the staff following the rules. The customer is the only reason you have a business. Being flexible for your customer is the only way you stay in business. Let's talk about basic unit economics. These are assumptions, but it's designed to prove a point. An average bowl at your establishment will cost you about $3.00. You are going to charge me about $10 before tax for that bowl. That's $7 in profit. If your rule is only two base ingredients, and a customer asked for a third (arugula)... give it to them... you have enough margin to absorb an $0.11 handful of arugula. Why risk angering the customer? Especially when the customer didn't get all the options they could have gotten, no dips, not veggies, just base (leafy greens/rice) and meat... meaning my bowl probably cost you sub $2.00 oppose to $3.00. You have plenty of margin to give me a handful of arugula. Regardless of the unit economic numbers being accurate, you have plenty of margin otherwise you could not operate. If you can't afford to give the odd customer an extra base here and there, close your doors and go back to business school. The customer is the only reason you have a job, keep them happy and coming back. Remember that. I have been coming to Cava locations across California since 2017. I have spent thousands of dollars across that time at Cava. Some weeks I'd eat at Cava 5 to 7 days in a row. And I've never had a problem getting the bowl I desired, until now. This one experience has lost you the future thousands I would have spent there with my family. All over an $0.11 handful of arugula. I WILL NEVER GIVE MY MONEY AGAIN TO A COMPANY WHO DOES NOT VALUE BEING FLEXIBLE FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS... You don't want to keep your customer happy, you don't want my money... I hope for the day I read the headlines that Cava is closing locations and is going out of business.

I didn't have any grand reason as that for preferring linguine as my pasta noodle of choice. My favorite childhood Italian family food joint used linguine as their "spaghetti" so that was what I thought of when it came to most pairings of sauce to noodle. Pomodoro, bolognese, and even my current sauce of choice, chili, will always be paired with linguine if I had my druthers. So it's always a bit disappointing to see a fresh pasta place not even offer it on the menu. I don't think it's a fair measuring stick comparing linguine to a spaghetti, a fett, or even a rotelle like I had here. They will never measure up because the mouth feel wil always be off. Don't mistake me; the rotelle Pomodoro was quite tasty, especially with that decent-sized meatball and focaccia on the side. That sauce was even a good choice because I always liked the simpler sauces. But always, always I think about how much better the meal would've gone with a nice linguine steering the ship. The service was good, if a bit brusque. The food came out quick and the server was even nicer serving than when I ordered. I like the ambiance too. Everything is spaced nicely for a restaurant this size. It feels relaxing in here and a place you can could host a good meal with a small set of friends. I don't think you need any more than that if it's a casual night. All in all, I like this place and will hit it up again if I feel like a non-linguine pasta night.
