I came here a few times to buy food to go, and I wasn't impressed with the taste of the food or the portion size. I had the pad Thai, chicken and shrimp and pad see noodles. While the price is on par with other Thai restaurants, their portion size is really small. The other day I came by to order sticky rice with mango and paid $13 for 3 spoonfuls of sticky rice and half a mango. With no sesame seeds. My dessert doesn't look like what they offered there in the past. The dessert is offered at Bambu restaurant for $11 with bigger portion. The restaurant is cutely decorated and clean. I am a lover of Thai food and this place was pretty awful, my ale cart pad Thai noodles with shrimp were soggy and very fishy, inedible. The yellow curry with chicekn was lacking in taste and they water downed the coconut milk. Very disappointing experience. The chicken wings were clearly undercooked--still pink inside. When I brought it to the staff's attention, I was told it was "medium rare," which is unacceptable. Chicken must be fully cooked for safety and is not something you can serve underdone like steak. This is especially concerning because my children could have eaten this, putting them at risk for foodborne illness like salmonella. Food safety should never be compromised. The rice container is very small, and the green curry came with way too much bamboo--plus the beef didn't really have any flavor. The curry itself tasted flat with no depth. They told me that this one scope. Pad Thai was on the drier side (which I don't mind), and the chicken portion was decent, but the overall seasoning was weak. It's the kind of meal you finish and immediately forget what it tasted like. I visited when they first opened and it was much better back then, so this was disappointing. Inside was clean and their customer service was great but sadly I didn't enjoy the food. The Groovy Fried Rice came with hot dogs and cold chicken nuggets (tasted frozen). Met a friend here for lunch today. It's tucked away in this little shopping center and the parking lot was actually surprisingly busy. It was just my friend and I inside for most of our meal. The server was sweet and attentive. She answered some of our questions about the menu and promptly served our Thai Iced Teas, which were served in cute little mason jar mugs, and was delicious! Their lunch specials are a good bargain. For $13.95 you get an entree, rice (unless it's pad Thai), a salad, and an egg roll. Decent sized portions. My friend got the yellow curry lunch with chicken and said it was good but she probably wouldn't get it again. I tried the spicy basil with chicken and it was good as well. The place is cute and they have a good amount of seating inside. Came here after a convention at the Toyota Arena. Wanted to get Thai but something not close to all the commotion. This place had good reviews so we checked it out. It was alright. Walking in we could tell we were the first customers of the day, because the restaurant was hot so I imagine they hadn't turned on their AC until we as customers showed up. Which is understandable. Once it cooled down we were able to relax a little bit make. The place is nice well kept and clean so that adds to the comfort. Few more people did show up after us, but for the most part we took our time since we weren't in a rush so most of them left before we did. We've gone to so many Thai food places all around California and other states. So we have a grasp as to what to expect when it comes to the food. As to why I can't really remember in detail what stood out. Goes to show that the food was alright and prices were your typical prices so no surprise there. Service was good and attentive. I also recommend getting their Thai tea with boba & Thai lime tea. The Thai tea is perfectly balanced! Not too strong of a tea flavor and not overly milky, super balanced! Boba is soft and chewy. It was a sweet and sour with coconut milk and mushrooms, we finished the whole thing. We also ordered a spicy thick noodle with beef and pad Thai with tofu. I enjoyed all of it, it seemed very freshly made and tasted delicious. My husband wasn't a fan of the pad Thai but I was. It wasn't your "typical" pad Thai but I chucked it up to being made fresh lol. Oh and we ordered the flaky curry appetizer with veggies, I liked it a lot, wish there was a dipping sauce but the curry flavor was nice. Overall the ambiance was relaxed and laid back, got my water refilled and napkins on request, so service was up to par. I will be back even if for just the soup bc I can't stop thinking about it. Medium spice was perfect. The wings were flavorful and super crispy, not really spicy so it's a good choice for everyone. There was so much food it was enough for two meals! I'm neutral about this new Thai eatery in town. We ordered take out based on some recommendations and it wasn't too bad. We ordered Pad Thai with chicken and tofu, Pad See Ew with tofu, and string beans a la carte. I think their portion sizes are a little off, the main dishes was enough for two meals, but I felt that the portion size for the string beans was a bit small. Also, I'm used to having Chinese broccoli in pad see ew, but I guess Groove Cafe uses actual broccoli florets in their dish. It threw me off a little and wasn't what I'm used to when ordering this dish from other Thai places. Not only is it overpriced, in an actual dish such as Pad Thai, they load up 90% of the plate with noodles and the other 10% as vegetables and protein. If you look at other reviews, the owners dismiss negative reviews of their establishment with excuses or their personal perspectives without providing a real reason for customer dissatisfaction. I only have ever ordered this restaurant for takeaway, and have ordered here many times and always the same order; the vegetable soup. However, the last three times I had ordered the soup (within a three month span) something was off. First, it was some of the normal ingredients were missing and the broth had a different off taste. I ended up getting sick almost instantly, so I thought I was coming down with the stomach bug and just let it be. The next time, similar issue with the broth, so I added some hot sauce but that didn't help and almost made it worse and again, I got sick. And the last and final time, the vegetables were not fresh, the broccoli was brown and the carrots tasted off. But I think it was the broth again that did me in. I was sick for over 24 hours with food poisoning. I was so bummed because previously this was my go to soup, light and clear broth - easy to eat if you have a sensitive tummy and it had flavor without any oil or add-ins. I am not sure what or why the changed it up and what happened to the prep but this is unfortunately a place that I will not be returning too. read more
