Dr. Patel and is staff is amazing. I had to get four wisdom teeth removed, I never have liked the dentist or Dr's. so this was not something that I would be excited about. But they where great on the day of surgery I got to bring my blaket and my phone with a movie on it back with me. The nurse explained each thing she was doing and it did not even hurt. When it came for my IV the nurse held my hand and I watch a movie and it was done. Then Dr. Patel came in and laid me back in the chair for surgery. One thing is don't were make up and contacts just glasses are good they take them off anyway. He gave me some water though the straw and then magic milk. I get super scared but they held my hand and made sure I was safe as I fell asleep. The next min I was awake. I took me along time time to wake up but they took good care of me till i was completely awake and then gave my mom information. Then home I went after a few weeks the stitches where poking me so they let us come in and would cut the part that was hurting with out an appointment and they were super fast. They are great Drs. and nurses and they took really good care of me. They get two thumbs up from me. !!!!!!!!! read more

They worked with us and gave us a discount since we don't have dental insurance; and didn't do any unnecessary up selling as the other office had for " dental membrane and bone grafts." He removed my wisdom teeth in March 2013. Obviously there was pain after the anesthesia wore off. I was allergic to the pain meds he prescribed, so that sucked. He wasn't very personal before or after the operation. I actually didn't see him after the operation, and no one asked me if i wanted to keep my teeth or see them. He was very good at answering his phone when I had questions though. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Dr Patel. I got my wisdom teeth out today and it went so smooth. I was nervous prior but I shouldn't have been. He even numbed my hand so I hardly felt the iv go into my hand! I was so worried I would feel pain during the surgery and I didn't feel a thing and don't even remember falling asleep or waking up it was GREAT!I didn't even have much pain after the surgery either and was able to return to work fast. The service I received was excellent! He has an incredible staff as well that really answer any questions you have. I would high recommend his office. read more

While I have no issue with Dr. Patel's competency as an oral surgeon, my experience with his office left me feeling taken advantage of financially. My husband was referred to Dr. Patel by his primary dentist after his routine cleaning, as the dentist noticed something at the gum line that he felt should get looked at. I checked the provider list for our dental provider and Dr. Patel was listed as a participating provider, so I called his office and made an appt. I gave office staff our dental insurance information for billing purposes. My husband attended his appointment, had the exam by Dr. Patel and was told that a biopsy was needed. Staff came in and prepped my husband by applying the numbing gel and then the doctor gave him numbing injections. While they were waiting for the area to completely numb, the doctor took him into his office to sign paperwork for billing. After the appointment my husband was told by Dr. Patel to go to the front desk to pay and that it would be $400.00. We have a PPO plan and while the cost seemed high, our primary dentist charges us and then refunds the difference after insurance is billed and he is paid, so we believed it was the same procedure here. However at the front desk, the charge was $500.00. It was paid on a credit card, again thinking after insurance paid the claim we would be refunded the amount above our co-pay responsibility. A few days later I received the EOB from our dental plan and it showed Dr. Patel only submitted a claim for the evaluation. I called the plan and was told that some biopsies are not covered under our plan as they are considered medical in nature and perhaps that was why a claim wasn't submitted. I provided the code from our copy of the invoice from Dr. Patel and it was confirmed that the code was not a covered procedure as it was medical in nature, not dental. At no point was my husband informed that this procedure was medical in nature and would not be covered through our dental coverage. In addition to the $500.00, which was still $100 more than the original quoted cost, there will be a charge from the lab directly for the biopsy results. I had a similar situation with a vision problem. I called my opthamologist's office, where I have my annual vision exams, and explained my problem. They reviewed my vision coverage and said they could see me but the problem I described was medical in nature and would not be covered under my vision. I would have to pay full cost to them or they suggested I contact my primary doctor and get referred to an Ophthalmologist through my medical plan to be more cost effective. I greatly appreciated that information and did have fully covered services through my primary physician. This same type of explanation of medical vs dental in nature was never brought up by Dr. Patel. No options of going through our medical coverage was discussed. I believe it was known that the procedure they were doing was not covered by our dental plan and they willfully withheld that knowledge so they could obtain a large payment from us. $500.00 is a lot of money and that isn't even the end of our cost. We are still waiting on the bill from the lab. If we had known this was a medical issue & procedure we would have gone through our medical coverage for a $30.00 co-pay and 100% coverage for lab tests. I question the ethics of Dr. Patel and Moorpark Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery P.C in regards to their billing practices. If you choose to see Dr. Patel for services, please make sure you know exactly what the procedures will be and do your own extensive research as to your coverage options for them. Please question if a procedure is considered medical or dental in nature, do not assume that this office will be forthcoming with this information. read more

Dr. Patel and his staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. I went to get my four wisdom teeth out, and it was less than a two hour visit. Everything went quick and swell. Dr. Patel and his staff were unbelievably cordial and kind; I didn't feel like the 100th patient in their day ever, but more like someone they were happy to help and get to know. They were super nice and didn't make me feel like a nutball ever, even when I called to ask if they still had my teeth, and if I could pick them up..three times. :) I would recommend anyone who needs oral surgery to Dr. Patel. The office is beautiful, he has nothing but sweethearts of a staff, and he's a very nice and straight-forward doctor, he informs you on everything you need to know and answers all questions clearly. :) read more

Dr. Patel, and office staff (Jackie & Ann) made extracting my tooth a very pleasant experience. The office staff were very friendly and made you feel welcome. Dr. Patel explained the whole procedure as he was working on me. Extracting the tooth was painless even though the tooth broke and he had to do extra work to remove the remaining portion. Had everything gone smoothly with the 9:00 am extraction of my daughter's wisdom teeth, I would have thought Dr Patel was wonderful. However, her extraction sites continued to bleed, and per the instructions of Dr Panel's staff, we returned at 3:30. Dr Patel was very rude, telling my daughter and I that *of course* there would be some "oozing." First, that's not what the written after care instructions said, nor was that what the staff advised. Secondly, the gauze squares looked pretty bloody to me! Then, he came at her with a syringe. He did not tell her it was some type of medication he was just *placing* in the socket. My daughter thought he was *sticking a needle* into the hours-old wound. She started to cry. Dr Patel got visibly angry at her tears, announcing that her concerns compelled him to return to the office (at 3:30). Having paid him $1,900 for 90 minutes' work, I was not particularly sympathetic his lack of empathy for a young girl who was frightened and in pain, especially when it appeared to be based on his being required to do some follow-up care. I should note that the *staff* was all very pleasant and professional. read more

I would not recommend Dr. Patel. I took my son in a few months ago for a consultation to remove one wisdom tooth. Dr. Patel was pushing my son to have extraction done that same day and to remove all four even though the other three had not broken through the gums (Might be standard practice?). He also had the nerve to tell my my son that he needed to make his own decision to have them removed that day because he's an adult. Yes, he is a young adult, however, he knows nothing about wisdom teeth extractions and he happens to be under my insurance plan. I have every right to help my son make an informed decision about oral surgery. This was not just a teeth cleaning job. It was apparent to me he was bothered that I was there guiding my son through necessary questions about the procedure. For example I asked about any other options for extraction besides general anesthesia. He insisted that general anesthesia was the best way to proceed. Obviously because this is the most costly option. He was constantly pushy to have extractions done that same day...it was apparent that it was a slow day/week for him. Woman's intuition that day was that he is a shadey Dr. and only cared about filling his pockets with $$$. Young lady at front desk was nice though. Anyways, we found a MUCH better Doc in Thousand Oaks. read more

First and foremost, the staff at Dr. Patel's office are stupendously stellar, efficient, knowledgeable and as affable as one can be. Jackie was thorough and more than adequately answered any inquiries as well as ensuring the process went smoothly by even following up in the evening. Not to mention, past normal operating hours, the patient has direct access to Dr. Patel for any concerns or emergencies should such transpire. The consultation with Dr. Patel as well as the software used for the panoramic X-rays were exceedingly thorough and detailed and thoughtful and he is quite conscientious and considerate of not just the insurance coverage but of any additional financial expenditure one might incur. The operation itself was astoundingly quick yet each aspect was administered and proceeded with absolute meticulous detail in which even the area of the arm to inject the anesthetic was numbed to make the experience nearly devoid of any discomfort. Post operation, the bleeding was quite minimal and any pain was nearly non-existent where the pain pills prescribed is almost a backup just in case but not necessarily mandated nor neccistated. I, Unfortunately had forgot to inquire as to the name of the second outstanding staff member though if a previous review still stands correct, I presume her name may be Ann. Both Ann and Jackie are phenomenal in what they do and any interaction with them was an absolute pleasure. Dr. Patel possesses a serene profiecieny that not only eases any qualms about the procedure but instills a profound sense of confidence in the patient that is unusually rare to encounter. To say that I recommend Dr. Patel and his staff would be quite an understatement. To any individual yearning for a seamlees wisdom tooth extraction, it would behoove you to visit his office in lieu of any other and more likely than not, you will secured yourself an appointment without bothering to contemplate any other office. -Austin read more
