Our first time trying based on a recommendation. I'm not picky but noticed a few things that just didn't set well. We were seated with in the timeframe advised. Our server came up and introduced his elf and got our drink orders. Then it went down hill. We needed a few minutes to decide 15 later he came back to check and took our orders. A few minutes later we noted our server was working a party in the party room. 35 minutes later our food arrived and one of the burgers were wrong. 20 minutes later the new burger arrived correct. Most everyone else in the party was wrapping up. The server did apologize for the delay and the incorrect order which moved it to 2 stars. You could tell it was shift change and more than likely our order got lost in the process when our server started working the party room. Don't know if I would give them a second shot. read more

Traveling for work and found this steakhouse on yelp. Local place that looks like one of its big chain competitors but that's where the similarities end. The NY Strip was excellent quality and cooked to a perfect medium rare as I requested. The sides are homemade and we're delicious. The price is reasonable for the quality. I'd probably give this a 3.5 - my fish dish was just okay but my husband's steak was good. The roasted rosemary red potatoes were okay, but the sweet potato souffle was very good. The waiter was very attentive and they were very responsive when we arrived - packed restaurant but virtually no wait for a table. I ordered the rib-eye cooked medium and received a thin piece of shoe leather. I didn't want to complain to the waiter so I sent Briquettes an email and never received a response. We went to the Montlimar location on Valentine's Day. The wait wasn't bad, seeing as it was a holiday. The food was really good. The cons of the night were that they seated us in what seemed like a banquet room; the floors were dirty, and it didn't have the same atmosphere of the rest of the restaurant. And because it was like sitting in a little box the family sitting beside us and their extremely noisy kids just made the night not as enjoyable. Went with 2 colleagues on a late Friday and there was a 30min wait so we found seats at the bar after 5mins. The lady bartender took our drink order but forgot to bring my drink. I though she would return to bring it out right away but I had to remind her after 5mins. The free butter biscuits was ok. I had 1 because I didnt want to eat too much bread before my main course. I ordered the 7oz top sirlion/medium rare with steam brocolli and onion rings. Steak came out perfert! I though I need sauce, but the combination of melted butter and seasoning was just right. The steam brocolli was warm & didnt have much seasoning. I ate all and had to force myself to eat the onion rings. Cost me about $24 including tips. I would go again. read more

We have eaten at Briquettes since it first opened, at their original place. My husband I always order the rib eye. It has always been the most tender and wonderfully flavored steak in Mobile. Today, we visited at lunch. We both ordered the rib eye, mine medium rare and his, medium well. We quickly found out why our dinner was served so quickly. First, there was an unappetizing thick yellow drizzle, all over the top of each steak. Both steaks had barely been seared, and were absolutely RAW in the center. Now, I can even handle rare, but not RAW, bloody meat. For the first time ever, my husband asked his be returned to the grill. It was returned a little rare, but better. I kept mine, and instead ate my baked potato, with the intention of taking my steak home and cook it for dinner. Later, the manager came out and apologized for the problem, and then asked how mine had been. I showed her my raw steak and explained that I was going to take it home, but thought she needed to know so she could address the problem. She offered to give our whole meal to us, free. That was not our purpose at all. My husband's problem had been addressed and I had not asked for mine to be cooked. I love Briquettes and instead of a free meal, I just want it to prosper and continue to serve the best steaks in town. If this had been our first visit and we didn't know better, we would never return. I am afraid if this were to become a reoccurring problem, the effect could be devastating on this business. read more

Found this place somewhat by accident a few months ago while on business in the Port City. Glad I did! One of the best mid-price steaks I have ever eaten (and yes I am a carnivore!). The service is always good, the portions are larger than average and the food is very good. Talking with the wait staff, they shared the story...most of the people employed at both locations are former Outback employees who followed the owner from there. This is impressive in itself since this is rare in food service. Highly recommend that you give it a try the next time you are craving steak! read more

Tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago and I must say there was not one single food item ordered that wasn't scumptious. We are a family of four and everybody was happy with the food. I ordered a steak and it was juicy with just a touch of char around the edges. Just the way I like it. Was visiting from out of town, the hotel manager recommended this steakhouse....I was craving for a steak and I was not disappointed. I don't need a large cut, but prefer a quality cut so I ordered the 8 oz. filet, with blackened Cajun rub....delicious. I added the fried mushrooms and onions combo (I just had to and so worth it). For the two included sides I ordered the rosemary seasoned red skin potatoes (with onions and parmesan cheese) and broccoli. Almost went for the sweet potatoes casserole which every one raves about but didn't want something too sweet with the meal. Another good recommendation for the side was the grilled zucchini. The steak was ordered "medium plus" which could have been cooked one more notch up, a little too much "red" but very tender and flavorful nonetheless. I am very picky about food temperature, while the steak was hot the sides were warm but not too disappointing. The buttered bread rolls were hot and tasty. For dessert I ordered the key lime pie, which while fresh, I found it way too sweet (hence 4 star) for my liking, I prefer a more tangy key lime pie. The ambiance is comfortable but a little noisy, but still acceptable. The booth I was in was just below an A/C vent so I was a little chilled, I could have moved but just wanted my steak. The service was OK from the waitress, pleasant (she helped with ordering the sides) but both the main entrée and dessert took longer than expected (hence the 4 star). Price was just over $40.00, with the dessert. No appetizers ordered...not needed, I was pretty full after it all. No charge for the soda water (some places charge like a regular soda). Arrived around 7:30 pm on a Wednesday evening, I was alone, was seated right away. I would say at that time the place was about at 75- 80% capacity.
