For me, this is a test of how good a restaurant is based on what they can do with a basic dish. This was the BEST mac'n'cheese I have had in a long time! We had a reservation for 6:30pm. Tried to plan it out to end our day at Bristol's but ended up ready for dinner by 5. They were able to accommodate us and get us in earlier than our reservation time. And if they couldn't we would have waited and killed time elsewhere. But it was great they did that for us. We made reservations here to celebrate our anniversary and we wanted to try something and somewhere new! The hostess mentioned us celebrating our anniversary and congratulated us, so sweet! She seated us and handed us an envelope that said "happy anniversary" on it and inside was a complimentary dessert!!! HOW AWESOME! Our server, Steven, was so kind and was extremely nice. He was very helpful and did an A++ job. He recommended an item, which I think was maybe a plate of the day?? Or something like that? Which was the sockeye salmon. It was splendid!! We also had oyster Rockefeller. The pretzel crusted trout was delicious. Everything was phenomenal. We have planned to make this place our anniversary dinner! Atmosphere is warm and inviting and the service was friendly and attentive rating a five. The bread rolls, calamari, salmon flat bread were also very good, rating a four. The sea bass is served plain, no seasoning and its just dry in texture (but not overcooked) and insipid to the taste. It needs seasoning, a glaze, a creamy sauce or succotash. Same with tuna. The a la carte accompaniments are just not good with this fish as prepared. Best part of meal were the haricots verts. read more

I a so disappointed with our dinner at Bristol last night, Sunday, July 2. We have been to Bristol many times but this was our first time since last November. we had never had a bad meal until last night. Our server was good - no complaints. We atarted with crab cakes which are always fantastic but then came dinner... My husband had the salmon with scalloped potatoes. There was a huge portion of salom and which was cooked very well and the potatoes were great but it was soaked in a mustard sauce that filled the plate. It was hard to avoid it since it was covering everything. Then there was my steak - I ordered the 6 oz filet with a side iof grilled onions rather than another side. The steak was cooked well but it tasted like it was soaked in liquid smoke. It was almost inedible! I could not get the taste out of my mouth. And the onions...I got about two tablespoons of onions in a little side bowl! The presentation was horrible and the steak tasted horrible! I asked a person that I assume was the manager what that smoke taste was and he said "we use mequite for all our grill items" - It's indicated on the menu!" Well - My husbands salmon was grilled - no mesquite and I read the menu in the resturant and online and there is NO INDICATION that anything is cooked with mequite. And we have had mequite cooked meats before but it has never had an overpowering taste like this! Bottom line is - it was not good at all and a steak is a steak and should taste like a steak - not liquid smoke! Maybe there was no supervison/chef in the kitchen! I give one star because the food is good, but unfortunately, we may never come back! I called the restaurant a week ago to reserve a spot for my husbands birthday. Since it is the first time we go out since we have a new baby. I'm nervous that the baby is going to bother other people since she has colic and tend to cry hard during early evening. I want everything to be perfect for my husband because he deserve a break plus my mother in law is also with us and they haven't spent birthday together for years. The lady on the phone said that they gonna send us a dessert since we have a special event, so I naively did not buy a birthday cake for my husband. The night start nice. They put us in a private room , which it is kind of them. When we started order, that's where it start to go wrong. Our waiter, Robert, basically was never there, came once to order drink, once for food, once for give us check, once for box. We have to ask other people to call him here to order food. I told him we want to go in and out as fast as we can. Boy! Dose the check come quick! We ordered a 3 course meal for my husband, the soup never came. When we ask him when we finally got hold of him, which is after we finished the main course, he said, he will box it for us without even apologize. My mother in law was piss off about the service and did not even bother to stay for dessert, so I did not ask for our "birthday "dessert! Now my husband did not have a birthday cake for his birthday! I hope the manager will give me some explanation, because that not what I expect for a restaurant like this! read more

I really hate leaving mediocre reviews as I used to be a server and know there are so many circumstances that can effect service at times. However, we came to this Bristol location to celebrate my mom's birthday (we celebrate here often, we love the food and service is usually outstanding), and the service was just so below par tonight. Servers can really make or break an experience and this server tonight unfortunately broke ours tonight. Our server seemed distracted or overloaded on tables, she basically only talked to us when she got our drink order and our food order and for us to pay. The food was delicious as always, however she did not ask if we were celebrating and completely ignored any acknowledgement of the birthday we had written into the reservation (we also used the birthday coupon we got in our email from being a frequent customer). No biggie just seemed like a missed opportunity in service on her end. She also circled the suggested gratuity on our receipt which I found tacky in a fairly high end restaurant. All in all maybe not her best night and hope these critiques lead to improvement in the future. We love Bristol and only hope it gets better next time! read more

Food is amazing. This is my second time here. I try to get here every time I'm in OFallon. Nice atmosphere. I'm assuming last night was just an off night. Our waiter seemed...new...he was very scattered. There were four of us. One person didn't get her entree when the rest of us did. No fewer than six people came over to let her know it was being fired. The three of us that got our food got steaks. One of my colleagues ordered Park crusted shrimp. His came grilled. She got scallops. She got hers as we were finishing up. He never asked us if we wanted more drinks. We finally asked him. He brought her dessert (was part of her initial order) as soon as finished her meal. Did not ask any of us if we wanted dessert until she finished her dessert. I made the comment to her, "do you mind if we order dessert even though you are done?" It was a really poor experience. I will go back and hope for better. read more

Giving this one an average score for now. I may update it later. First we sat in the bar during busy Friday happy hour. No one ever came over to our table to clean it or take our orders. Once we moved up to the actual bar the service was wonderful and pleasant. We only had drinks and hour hour special Hors d'oeuvres. The taste was good not great or amazing but acceptable for the happy hour prices. I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came it wasn't especially pricey. Always great food! My favorite dish is the pretzel crusted trout with asparagus instead of green beans and their mashed potatoes. I LOVE their iced tea as it is not bitter. This is also our go-to for Father's Day/Mother's Day brunch! They have the best selection of food and mini desserts. One time we forgot to make a reservation far in advance for Mother's Day and they told us to come in anyway and would try to seat us later in the day. We thought we'd have 20 people but had about 27 which meant we had to move at short notice out of the smaller private room into the main dining room. The Bristol staff handled it all really easily, with a smile. Everyone on the team was attentive, professional, and fun - Ryan (the manager), Kayleen (please excuse if I've misspelled) and Tony. We couldn't have asked for better treatment, the food was loved by all, I thought it was very reasonably priced for the quality, and the ambience was classy but not pretentious. The lobster rolls looked and tasted like "seafood salad" you can purchase at Costco. The mussels were definitely not fresh...we ate some and then feared we would get sick - we didn't ask and they didn't offer a refund on 2/3 of the mussels we did not eat (not sure if they are conditioned to customers not eating the mussels). My wife and I received a gift card for Bristols and we visited the Winghaven location yesterday. We had never eaten there before and wondered how our dinner would go. Jill was our server and she was friendly, attentive, and did a really good job. We both ordered the three course meal. I had the petite filet with wine sauce and potatoes and my wife had a scallop dish. We order the bisque for our first course and it was an A. Very good taste. When my filet showed up I didn't need a knife it was so tender and the wine sauce was amazing. Best beef I've had in years. My wife's scallops were fresh and delicious. The biscuits they serve were also very good. My potatoes were ok, nothing to write home about but the filet more than made up for it. For desert we had a cream brûlée and some homemade ice cream which were ok. We also ordered two cappuccinos and they were awesome not like the watered down stuff you get at Starbucks. All in all a very pleasant experience. I wish they had a 4.5 stars instead of rating it a 4. read more

Took wife here for our 44 th anniversary. Been a couple years since we have been here. I had Blackened halibut and wife had salmon. Both were outstanding. We tried an appetizer of bruschetta which was also incredibly good. Service was also great. Beautiful restaurant inside. Went for our 20th anniversary. I let them know when I made the reservation. Everyone we interacted with wishes us a happy anniversary. We started with cocktails both well made. Also had the Maine muscles so tastey and tender. I had the surf and turf with the crab cake again mouth watering steak and light and creamy crab cake enough stuff to hold together but nothing extra. My wife ordered the chillian sea bass per our server Doug's recommendation and it was excellent as well light and flavorful. I had a glass of merlot again a Doug recommendation excellent choice. Let's start out by saying, I don't like seafood. Ick gross. Nasty. The end. But for some reason, I am OBSESSED with the Crab Cakes at Bristol's. They aren't full of fillers, and they are perfectly cooked with usually 2 veggie sides. Pair that with one of their yummy biscuits, and you'll die and go to heaven. I love the atmosphere. It's much different than the Creve Couer location. Every time I've gone, it hasn't been insanely busy. Awesome Happy Hour specials, and even great lunch specials. Try the power lunch with a salad and 1/2 sammy AND fries for about $12. Talk about a lunch deal. If you are a frequent shopper of Bristol, be sure to sign up for their email rewards program. You get good coupons throughout the year and a free entree for your birthday up to $25. Now, that's a sweet deal. My husband thinks it's the best seafood out in St. Charles County. I'll have to agree with them. Gone are the days of Red Lobster. Woop! read more

came here for a nice meal with the co-workers while we were out in o'fallon for training. we got seated right away and they served us biscuits and butter immediately. the server gave us about 10 mins to decide what we were going to order. the biscuit they served was alright. i've had better... it was a bit sweet for my tase. anyway, onto what i ordered: 4oz filet mignon and crab cake combination - the filet migon wasn't to my liking, partially because it wasn't cooked to medium. it was well done. yuck. and the meat wasn't too tender. the crab cake was good, but again, i've had better. and that's supposedly a bristol signature. for my sides, i chose the mushroom risotto and the lobster mac and cheese. the mushroom risotto was to my liking and it was cooked to perfection. the lobster mac and cheese was also really good, however, i wish it would've contained bigger chunks of lobster. for dessert, i got the lava cake with hazelnut ice cream. the lava cake was good and it takes about 15 minutes so order ahead of time. i loved how the gooey chocolate oozed out of the center when i dug my fork into the cake. all in all, everything was decent and my meal + dessert came out to about $60 with tax and tip included. read more

My wife finally got her way. We went here for apps for our 25th anniversary. Like many of the other guys reviewing, I prefer my meal to be land based. We had intended to get the Lobster rolls app and salmon flatbread app but when I did the yelp check in there was a special for a free calimari app as well. So we got 3. First off having been a server years ago, our server Bo (Beau?) was over the top not just with us but with all of his tables within earshot. This guy can teach servers how to max tips AND give the guests the best experience possible. We stopped in on a whim on the way back from Lowe's so were in jeans, not what I would normally have worn here, but other than 1 "look" from 1 staff, the rest did as I taught servers myself years ago...the customer's cash is always green and good manners work from both directions. Needless to say the management team has done their job. Everything but the food gets 6 stars. The Lobster roll was small and filled with a lot less lobster than I would have expected even here. My wife has had them elsewhere with a better value and the taste was rather bland but for one spice for heat. The Salmon Flatbread was as our server described it so it was on my shoulders. Not a fan but also not a salmon eater usually so others may appreciate it more. Very salty. Higher than normal fluid intake necessary. Portion size was a very good value as was the overall salmon coverage The calimari was a decent sized portion and to fluff out the plate there are tiny carrots and luckily Bo had mentioned before it was necessary that the green veggie fried in it was jalapeno and not okra....whew! We will be back probably to try their twilight offerings as they sound great. I am going with 5stars since they did their part just my taste did not cooperate for them. read more

The food is good but I can't say I've found that one item that I can't live without. The bisque was solid. When I ordered the filet combo with the scallops, both items came out perfect. I opted for the seafood mixed grill the next time and again the scallops were the standout. Since it was my birthday they offered me a free dessert and I was so full that I opted for the panna cotta trio but I didn't really enjoy it. It wasn't the dish itself so much as the food being so filling. A hint: Never go here without a coupon. They signed us up for their email list our first visit and every week I receive some sort of email deal or special of the week. The food here is good. Not over the top, blow your mind good, but it's decent. My wife and I dined here with some friends and I tried to order the Swordfish but was told they were out. The server suggested the Halibut which was good. I also had as a side an asparagus risotto which was ok, but not what I would consider excellent. My other side was 4 spears of asparagus. My wife ordered the steak and fried shrimp and it was just ok. We shared a Creme Brulee' for desert and it was pretty good. The prices here are extreme. So be prepared for a bit of sticker shock when you get your bill. Our bill was over $150 before gratuity for the two of us. I had a couple of cocktails and my wife had a couple of glasses of vino which contributed to the bill but honestly, it's considerably overpriced. read more

I've been to Bristol's each time I've stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn (right next to Bristol's), and have been pleasantly surprised each time. They have a wide variety of fish from around the country, and no matter what I've ordered it's been delicious and served by a smiling, caring server. I didn't give 5 stars because the decor is attractive but unoriginal and a little worn, and it's always very dark in the restaurant, even when it's sunny outside. read more

First, they were sweet enough to give us a table to accommodate my scooter so it wasn't blocking anyone. Then we got Doug K as our waiter and he was great. Very attentive and witty. Good seafood, espcially by O'Fallon standards. The restaurant is located near the Hilton Garden Inn, but not actually in it. The fish tasted pretty fresh and the service was good, but- like all restaurants in O'Fallon- they start cleaning up at 8:30 so get there early. The tuna appetizer was really good! The halibut was tasty but didn't taste like it just came out of the sea......but then again, there are no oceans in MO. read more
