The staff here was helpful and friendly, from the ticketing agents to gate agents and definitely the flight attendants. We encountered issues with our flight and ultimately dealt with quite a bit to get back on track to our destination and everyone was helpful! People love to whine about stuff they aren't familiar with, don't understand, or just to whine... we took it all in stride and were thankful for the great folks and service! read more

Too bad we can't give a 1/2 star We flew to Rome on British Airways (BA) arranged by Costco Travel. We arrived an hour late and worried there could be trouble with the arranged car. We got our luggage (20 minutes) and met the car transport and actually had left the airport when we realized we had left a carry-on on the plane. We returned and I spent over 20 minutes going back through security back to customs where they said baggage left on the plane would be at lost and found. I found lost and found but no one was there for BA, after 20 minutes with the car waiting I left and we went to the hotel. We immediately called British Airways for the phone number of their lost and found and THEY DIDN'T HAVE IT! They didn't try to help us - they said "it's the Rome Airport running lost and found." We found multiple numbers on the internet for the lost and found, no one answered, but some we left messages. We found an e-mail where we sent a detailed description of the carry-on but no one ever contacted us. Our hotel in Rome is about 45 minutes from the airport $40-$80 by train or bus so we called British Airways again as we were willing to go back to the airport lost and found if the carry-on was there but once again BA declined to help in any way. Stuart is semi-retired, Diane retired the first year of covid. The kids are grown, covid is no longer a pandemic, and we have the time and finances to travel. Flight into London was delayed by an hour and a half due a technical issue - however, this was made up for in the air. Crew aboard the IAD - LHR flight 216 were fantastic; jolly, chirpy and fast at serving and collecting trays/trash etc. The food, however, I cannot hold to the same standard. The chicken curry was more than edible, but the breakfast was questionable. A croissant with cream cheese and tomato.... interesting. It's a no from me, but thanks BA! read more

Super comfy flight on British Airways to London. I scored an exit row with both neighboring seats unoccupied. The flight attendants checked on me often and made sure I had everything I needed. I would definitely use them again for my trips over the pond. read more

Bumped my family from a BA to BA connection while the plane sat at the gate for another 45 minutes. We weren't late! NEVER AGAIN!!

Ended up having a medical emergency and had to cancel trip. Weeks in advance I canceled my flights. 2k flights they refunded 200 dollars. I called several times and was on hold for more than an hour-no joke. Couldn't get anyone live on the phone, or response via email. I called several times at different hours hoping to get someone. Nothing. Hours and money lost due to this horrid company. Don't waste your money! Update- filed complaint with the BBB. British Airways responded with an email basically saying so sorry but you are not getting your money back. Fly with a company that treats you better and doesn't take your money. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. Horrible service everywhere, from airport, CS & business class on the plane. Canceled our flight and told us there was nothing they could do, we were on our own to figure out transportation/hotels/etc and then to figure it out with customer service later. Which, they do not take responsibility for and you have to eat the cost, or fight with them endlessly...Everyone was rude. When we got on a flight 8 hours later, at our connection there was an employee that said the flight was canceled and other employees said no, it was not canceled - had one of my parents in a wheelchair when both had it on their ticket to have a wheelchair - and then the employee that was adamant our flight was canceled took us all over the airport to drop off other passengers and then dropped us off at the service desk telling the next employee that our flight was canceled. The employee at the desk told this guy that it was not canceled and to take us to our gate, he refused. So we had to run to the gate- luckily someone took my mom in a wheelchair and ran with her. My dad (in his mid 70's) was shaking after running - they couldn't find a wheelchair for him. As far as luggage: Customer service via telephone links to someone in India - leave it to the British... anyways, they lost our bag (and two others in my extended fam) and somehow they "lost" my bag with my valuables... probably won't see it again, and on-top of it the entire service in person/on the phone is rude and clueless. They have absolutely no clue what's going on. Said it would be delivered- then oh no, fed ex has it- and track it there, our hands are clean now, so you're on your own... Never again. Avoid! Avoid!! I like British Airways, but while I feel they used to be a massive cut above US airlines, the gap is narrowing. The US airlines are improving their service, and BA has instituted a number of cutbacks. For example, BA charges for all advance seat assignments in coach and business class, whereas American/Delta/United all give you free seat selection to Europe. In addition, BA has cut back on the second meal service in coach on westbound flights. The US airlines give you a hot snack before arrival, whereas BA gives you a candy bar. BA's business class is enjoyable, but the seating plan is somewhat dense compared to most other carriers, and some people don't like having to climb over their neighbor when getting to the aisle. Still, I find the BA Club World seat to be insanely comfortable for sleeping. In BA's defense, their crews are usually top notch and very cheerfully British. US airlines, in contrast, are often hit-or-miss, with an equal chance of getting a stellar crew or an angry crew that needs to retire. Pro tip: BA offers AARP members discounts on all flights. You can join AARP at any age (you don't have to be 55) and benefit from the discount (ranges from $50-$200 based on class of service) all for the low $16 membership fee. And, think of how much fun you'll have reading the AARP magazine that you'll get each month...articles on how to choose a Medigap policy, interviews with Blythe Danner, etc. read more

I'm actually flying out of Dulles. After a fax, eight phone calls and an unanswered customer complaint through their maze-like website I have decided never again to fly BA. It makes me sad, but they are obstructive rude and unhelpful. Virgin will be my airline of choice from now on. read more

I traveled from London to Charlotte via Washington, Dc. British airways, London customer service issued tickets to me with 1.5 hrs layover at Washington but immigration and baggage claim took 2 hours for me. I asked them weather this layover is sufficient for taking next flight and she assured that this is OK to catch domestic flight but this is not OK. There is no proper 24 hrs customer service here because of that I ended up staying in airport for 10 hours for next connecting flight. I don't trust this British airways anymore and there is no chance of requesting hotel and BF tokens for missing flight. British Airways partner United airlines re-booked my ticket and guaranteed my ticket for18.5 hours later flight. Finally, I got standby ticket confirmed for 10 hrs later flight and I traveled to my destination. I ended up paying $150 additional amount and they added 12 hours to my original 32 hrs International journey so I am like dead body after 44 hours journey. read more

The way to fly to London. First class gets you through the speed-pass at customs at Heathrow airport. This is a HUGE perk. Five minutes through the line or up to five hours in regular line. Lay flat seats, impeccable cabin service, and full English fry-up for breakfast just before landing - you can't beat that. read more

They cancelled my flight and rebooked me on a flight five hours later with a seat in the last row literally. Called their customer service multiple times and it's like talking to a brick wall who just says too bad so sad over and over again. Then when I even offered to pay to upgrade out of airplane hell they told me they would only speak through my travel agent. Is this 1962 Pan Am? read more

I flew with British Airways to Rome and I had a layover in London. Since the flight wasn't packed, they put my luggage with the business class so it comes out faster. I didn't mind not getting an upgrade to business class because I had the whole row to myself. I got to fly with comfort the whole way to London. read more

Flew from Dulles to London to see the Ravens get demolished by the Jaguars. I'm still embarrassed. Anyway, BA is probably one of the worst airlines I have flown on, and I've been to multiple European countries. The seats are cramped and small. I was squished in the middle seat for both the flight there and back. The in-flight entertainment didn't work at all for multiple rows on our flight there (~8 hour flight). The crew said that this was due to "someone's luggage being shoved up on a sensor.... and since we are in flight now, we can't move it." So therefore, we had no TVs, no reading lights, oh, and NO AIR. BA can't turn on the AC until they are in the air. Since ours didn't work, it was uncomfortably warm in the cabin and I kept sweating all over my mom sitting next to me and the other passenger (sorry). The crew member told us to fill out a form and we would get money back or something, she didn't explain fully. I just got an email from BA Customer Service a couple of days ago (I traveled in September 2017) and they spelled my name wrong (yes, I'm one of those that pays attention to that in emails) and offered a 20 pound e-voucher for another BA flight. I can't even exchange this for cash value. They want me to book another flight, and in their eyes they are giving us a "discount" but considering how much money they make, it probably equals out to like 10 cents off of a dollar. No thanks, I'll pass. The crew seemed a bit frazzled, overwhelmed, and didn't seem to care for the customers very much. It did take a while for the food and drinks to come out during both flights. The drinks were small but our flight attendant on the flight back to Dulles hooked us up and gave us two small cans of Diet Coke instead of one. The food was good, I can't really complain there. Luckily, on the flight back, we were able to watch movies and use the AC. It just really seems like BA is declining, fast. I know that they used to be a well-respected airline. The plane itself seemed old and dingy, but at least it was clean. Not pristine though. If I ever visit England again, I'm hoping I can find another airline to book through. read more

British Airways appears to discriminate against members of its frequent flyer program (Avios) who use points to pay for part of their tickets. I reduced the price of my Premium Economy seat by using Avios points. I have not been able to check in online on either end of the trip. Hence I was not able to choose my seat in either case. Even if all but one seat was taken, I should've been able to see the seat assignment and print my boarding pass. Instead, the system told me "Sorry, we cannot complete online check-in for your flight on this occasion. Please proceed to the airport to check in and collect your boarding pass." I've never been treated this way by any other airline. read more

I've used British Airways twice to fly overseas and both experiences were awful. I paid $48 for a window seat, which was changed to an aisle seat the day before the flight. I never received a refund despite British Airways changing the seat for an unknown reason. My luggage was lost and never found, which British Airways has been unapologetic about. I feel like there was never any real attempt to locate my luggage. Some of the staff are polite, but most of the British Airway employees that I've spoken to are rude. I paid extra for World Traveler Plus because it comes with a plug outlet at the seat, however, my outlet didn't work. When I call the customer service center, the representatives aren't helpful and I frequently get disconnected. When I email about issues, I don't receive emails back. The ticket prices may be lower then the competition, but the poor service isn't worth it. read more

I was an avid fan of British airways--until now. I just spent seven hours on the phone with their customer service trying to rebook a flight they cancelled, only to have them try to charge me additional fees for the seats I originally had on the cancelled flight, and had already paid for. After dealing with multiple customer service representatives, I was finally given seats that were not what I originally requested, but were the only choices. All of the representatives treated me with indifference, concerned only with company policy and not giving up any fee income. Not what I expect from a company that bills itself as world class in service. This feels almost like bait and switch. Unfortunately, I will not be flying BA again. read more

I would rate British Airways ZERO STARS if this app allowed it. British Airways is THE WORST. I logged on and paid $250 to reserve specific, guaranteed seats. We were not given those seats. When I inquired, I was told I had to take it up with BA services after landing. When I landed, I found out my transaction was one of the thousands of unlucky customers whose information was hacked due to lousy BA cyber security and had to cancel my credit card on the first day of my vacation. I inquired at the BA desk at Heathrow. "Nothing we can do here sir, you have to inquire online." After sending in an explanation of the issue, I received a message instructing me not to "chase after" a response as they are very busy and will get to me when they get to me. That was two months ago and I've heard nothing since. Phone calls have been pointless. They have successfully stolen $250 from me. Don't let them rob you too. read more

I flew BA from Heathrow to Dulles. From my experience, the airline certainly treats economy passengers as dirt. I was served a potato salad that had a rotten potato in my first mouthful. When I contacted the staff, I got an apology but nothing else. There is no way one can book one's dietary needs when one books the seat, so the staff glibly declare that they were not "aware " that any such reservation had been made because they cannot access the information that I provided when purchasing the flight ticket. BA need to remember that economy seats do not mean free seats to passengers. Such people cannot afford the higher costs to travel and need to have a decent meal on the flight.. Don't bother to contact British Airways Customer Service. It is disgraceful. A customer service employee answered the phone after 12 minutes, she was asked a question about an upcoming flight, she told me to hold on and she would get advice. Over the course of the next 1 hour and 25 minutes she came back to me 6 times saying 'are you there, hold on, I will get back to you'. After 40 minutes I asked to speak to a supervisor and I held on to the call because I needed my problem to be resolved before I travelled. She continued to tell me to hold on, I'll get back to you. In the end I gave up. Clearly that was her intention. The customer service people seemingly are told to give stock answers and when you are not happy with that answer they tell you to hold on and they will get advice intending that you will give up. British Airways caused the problem in the first place. They used to be so good. No wonder I see so many bad reviews about their customer service and people changing to another airline. read more

I flew British Airways out of Dulles with my husband and 5 month-old baby. As Richard B. noted, the BA Representatives were horrendous! We were made to wait in the wrong line for over an hour and a 1/2 by Diane Aliff. When I asked Steve Mgaza for assistance, he would not assist us in getting in the correct line. The woman checking in 1st class customers (light-skinned African American woman) was extremely rude and dismissive (she told me and my baby we were holding up her first-class customers). When we went to speak to the duty-manager (a women with an accent), the first-class representative ran over to tell her not to talk to us...and the manager wouldn't speak to us! And they refused to give me their names (their name tags were covered). Needless to say, I've filed a complaint. Not sure if anything will come of it but I was completely appalled. I do not recommend British Airways. Air France, KLM, And Lufthansa have always been great! read more
