We came here as a group to celebrate our British friend getting her US citizenship, and the Brit's team made it a great experience! We had a little section on the side just for us with a few sofas and some standing space. Our server was wonderful - taking nearly 20 people's drink orders and bringing them out while we moved around the space. That takes skill! They have classic pub drinks available, I opted for cider. We didn't get any food, but it looks like pretty standard British pub fare. Found Brits Pub since it was around the corner from my hotel in DT Minneapolis. It feels like a true pub with TV screens everywhere, wood bar, tables and chairs and patrons drinking pints while chatting and laughing. It was Thursday night so I was entertained with an NFL football game on 2 of the screens. I found the one open seat at the bar and was immediately approached by the bartender. There is a list of featured cocktails for $10. Why not? I ordered a Brits Lemonade with Absolut Raspberry. For food, I ordered the Cod Bites and the poutine, both appetizers since I wasn't that hungry. The bartender laughed when he saw my face as the food was set down in front of me. The poutine is gigantic! Definitely not something one person can finish. The guys next to me made comments about me having quite the appetite! I did a decent job of conquering half of it and kindly adding for a to go box. The cod pieces were light and crispy and was the perfect sized portion. Good thing I didn't order a whole order of fish and chips - that would've sent me over the edge! Had an enjoyable time while traveling by myself. For Rugby/Soccer Matches/general - 4/5 I come to Brit's every so often to watch rugby. You can usually find a place to sit, the food is tasty (albeit a little pricey), and service does not lack! I've never spent any time on their rooftop, but it's on my list! The parking lot is pretty tiny, but metered parking is also easy to find. For Afternoon Tea - 2/5 Afternoon tea is only offered on weekdays which is a bit of a bummer if you work a 9-5. The booking process was fairly easy. I went on a Friday afternoon and was a little disappointed. Tea is situated in a separate room, which was nice, but we were seated right next to the only other party there. It would have been nice to have a bit more privacy. The music volume was inconsistent, at one point it was blaring. The tea selection was fine. I enjoyed them all, but wasn't really given steeping times, so we guessed. There was a wide variety of food choices, which was nice, But some of it seemed like it was store bought and not super fresh. I recently stopped in for trivia on a Wednesday night with friends and we had an "ok" time. The food was fabulous, many of us had the fish and it was great. The breading was really nice and the tartar sauce was fantastic. I substituted the fries for a twice baked potato, I would come back solely for that - it was out of this world tasty. There was plenty of seating and the atmosphere was comfortable. The negative of the visit came in terms of our server. He was downright annoying and rude. And he seemed in a rush to get rid of us even though it was very obvious we were there for trivia and would be hanging around for the full 2 hours. My friend's salad came without the chicken and was also missing other toppings. When she asked about it, he was annoyed and it seemed like a major inconvenience when she said "is this supposed to have tortilla strips" instead of him being like "sorry about that!" He said "sure..". And this continued for anything else we asked for or even as we tried to order more drinks. It was very clear he didn't want to be there and wanted us gone. The pricing is great, the ambiance is great but most of all that rooftop is simply enjoyable! Do walk up to it even if they say they aren't serving food or drinks. Just take your drink and go. Great lounge spot. They also have a giant projector. Anyway, the fish and chips are good for two people, if you get just one. We thought it wouldn't be so we got two but really didn't need to. I stopped by today, for lunch and dinner between an Airbnb and a move to my new apartment in Eagan, just South of St. Paul. I was taking refuge from the downpour. I ran up a $59.00 tab. Just around 3pm I asked for another round and to maybe order more food. I was told, surprisingly, that I couldn't order more. I was shocked, as I had generally kept to myself during the few hours I had been there. In fact, I spent the majority of my time on the phone with a new love interest and my cousin, in Florida who just opened up a new shop for her business (disclaimer, I cried out of happiness for her). When I asked for feedback as to why I was being asked to leave, I was given no answer. Just that the bartender who served me felt it necessary. I asked for some feedback, in the hope to be a better patron. It was first time there and having worked in restaurants for 15 years, it difficult to understand why I was being asked to leave. At some point a gentlemen, who night have been a manager came over, rather aggressively. I told him, np, just trying to get some understanding as to what happened. He said, vaguely, a number of things had. I said okay, np, what were those things? His general response was that I wasn't doing myself any favors by asking. Moreover, he said "I can pay or there would be a problem." I said, I'm not disputing payment at all, I'm just trying to figure how to do better. His reply was to the effect it's a subjective opinion and flat out refused to indicate what I may have done to warrant his and his staff's behavior. Until that moment, I really had loved my experience there. But the lack of an objective reason to refuse service, and the impression from management they need not explain why they were refusing service, was astounding. Generally, I had ate brussel sprouts,had a few drinks, and hoped to order dinner. I stepped outside to have some nicotine and other than that, spent my time either texting / sending voice memos to a new love interest and spoke to my cousin about her business. Since I could not get objective feedback from staff, who were overwhelmingly cis straight men, I can only imagine it was the happy tears I shed for my cousin's new business? I really didn't get any feedback that would give me an understanding of how to be a better patron. I paid my tab, no tip, and am literally writing this from the Caribou next door. I don't know what could have been done differently, but my instinct says that queer folks and sensitive, emotionally in touch men should avoid this bar. It felt like a gaslight, where they seemed to imply I should know what I did wrong while also being audaciously angry I would ask for constructive feedback. I certainly no longer feel safe in this bar and would caution anyone who isn't a straight bro to avoid. God forbid you show real human emotions while otherwise minding your own business. The most disturbing part was the insistence that I didn't deserve constructive feedback and that even asking for that was "not doing me any favors." Not a safe place. 0/10 read more

My boyfriend and I looked up restaurants near the Orpheum theater after a show and this one was in walking distance. It was a very lovely walk and this is a nice location, I loved the 'pub' like exterior so you couldn't miss it! When we arrived it was quite busy, this was around 7:30 PM, and there was a 20 minute wait. Not too much room for any customers to wait except for the bar but we didn't mind. When our table was ready, the host brought us to the second story. I love the layout of this restaurant and the interior was filled with very nice pub memorabilia, however may not be the best for accessibility for some people. I was surprised there were not more TV's for sports watchers as some were turned off but it was a very cozy ambiance. Our server did seem to be quite busy with his section so when he came around we ordered everything all at once. I was a server before myself, so I don't mind that too much but for some it may be less attentive than they would prefer from a restaurant experience. The cocktails were very delicious, I do wish there was more selection from their menu but I was still able to find something fruity. I ordered the raspberry vodka lemonade and my partner ordered the Jameson ginger. They were both light and refreshing yet very tasty, however the Jameson ginger came with a 'dried' mint instead of fresh leaves so that was disappointing and not as appetizing. My partner ordered the Bangers and Mash and it was an 8/10, very good choice and I would select it again. I wish there was a bit more flavor in each element individually but eating everything together, it was quite nice. The appetizer sampler was a 9.5/10, everything was so fresh and delicious! The scotch eggs and macaroni bites were my favorite, the macaroni was the best 'fried' mac bites I have ever had. They were so gooey and melty, like a Velveeta kind of mac vibe. And scotch eggs are just amazing, very crispy outside and great sausage flavor. The sampler also included chicken tenders, which you can't really go wrong there, and the fried cod. The cod was just slightly too greasy and the tarter was more sour than I am use to. But overall amazing food, we will definitely be going back! read more

It pains me to leave this review, as Brit's has been a very special spot for me for many years. I travel a lot for work and have been coming to Brit's for over a decade. Any time I'm in town I make a point of bellying up to the bar because it feels like coming home. Today, as I was wrapping up my work trip, I called Brit's in the early afternoon to confirm they would be open that night when I closed my show at the Orpheum. I was told, "yup, our kitchen closes at 10 and last call is 10:45". So, I told a couple of my colleagues they needed to join me as this is (now, was) one of my favorite bars in the country. We walked in subzero temps to arrive at Brit's at 9:45 where people were drinking and dining inside, but the doors were locked. We knocked and were ignored. I called the host line and was then greeted by a "manager" who told me they had given last call because it was slow. He denied us entry, while still acknowledging that, "yeah, you were told we'd be open but business hours fluctuate." I asked if he could make an exception, while I was shivering my butt off, and he said, "no, but I'll let our team know this happened".....as if that was remotely helpful. This was so disheartening. This is my go to place for English fare in down town. Big open space, outside seating (seasonal), lawn bowling (seasonal), place to watch sports like cricket and football (soccer). Was in the mood for fish and chips and stopped by here for lunch the other day and the food didn't disappoint. The fish was cooked perfectly with crispy outside and flaky inside. The chips were also cooked and seasoned well and were a generous portion. My only gripe was that they have recently increased their prices (like everyone else) and a two piece fish and chips cost me $35 (no drink but including tip). I had the cornish pasty which had good salad and fries but the pasty itself was nothing like what I usually had in the UK. The meat and potatoes had some yum-ish flavors but the carrot taste stood out like it's just been added later making the dish much worse. The texture of everything was soft all the way so I don't understand why the carrot didn't have the taste it's supposed to have. It's very hard to finish the pasty. It's a lively place with attractive rooftop dining with several Union Jack flags waving in the breeze off the building -- you can't miss it! We were seated upstairs. The waiter was very polite and friendly. The food was just 'ok'. The potatoes inside my pot pie were hard. The Mars Bar cheesecake had a few sprinkles of Mars Bar on top, other than that, it was kinda like regular cheesecake. Lots of 'Brit' memorabilia to look at on the walls. The rooftop patio was very spacious and busy on a beautiful late spring evening. The restaurant could do with a good top-to-bottom clean. The windows, walls, pictures, baseboards were dusty, dirty, splashed with food. Filthy! Makes you wonder what it's like in the kitchen. I purchased tickets for the Jingle Bar at Brits Pub. To be honest I had NO IDEA what the Jingle Bar was all about, I was offered the tickets since another event was cancelled so they were paid for- but I didn't look into the event. Parking was super easy, Likely only because it was a weekday - I can see it being a bit of an issue on the weekend, it's pretty limited if you're looking for close parking spots. Upon arriving I showed up and showed my tickets, the hostess may have been new, she wasn't quite sure- finally a nice man came up to assist and directed us "through them doors" where we headed to... upon opening the door I thought the Elf (costume and all) was going to tackle us "What are you doing here we have a show going on??" I was highly irritated and surprised that she was pretty rude but since we were late and she allowed us to enter in 20 minutes for the next show I was grateful. We went back out to the bar and got a cocktail - my step daughter loved the raspberry lemonade cocktail while I tried the orange expresso martini which was very bold as one might expect for an expresso martini, but it was good. This far the entire staff (other than the Elf) were So kind, bartender was great, waitresses attentive and kind. We finally got into the Jingle bar and it was so fun! Lisa the Elf had lightened up, I realized maybe I was interrupting Santa's show and she got upset at that (but I didn't interrupt in any way- wait staff were running in and out of this door so there) But it was a Christmas Wonderland! Music, laughter, good poutine & cute drinks! I was expecting more festive cups for the cocktails or sprinkles/candy canes/ fun whipped cream on them but the cocktails were delicious and that's what matters! Our server's section was completely full, so she anticipated that she would be busy the whole night and gave us pitchers of water to make sure we stayed hydrated. We visited here for a beer before a performance at Orchestra Hall because it was easy walking distance from the parking ramp and arena. Tried to get the Boddingtons but they were out so I opted for a Guinness. I wasn't looking for a big meal so I got the cod bites. They were very good. As an app, it was probably ok for sharing with one other person but it wasn't a ton of food. Just the right size for me - wanted a bit of fish without all the fries. A hall of shame moment for me I have never been here. That's how much I stay away from downtown Mpls. But on a Sunday the parking isn't bad at all so that's the day I'll come here from now on. They have a fabulous party area on the first floor. We were meeting a group of Sherlockians. From the war in India, the British got a hankering for curry and never let go. The soup of the day was chicken mullagatawny. I shared it with Basil and it was delicious. He got the cornish pasty with a nice dark gravy. It came with some of the best fries. I got the Shepherd's Pie. I just had one at Emmett's and I swear I'll never get it there again. This was heavenly and you could taste the wine in every bite and the beef was super tender. It came with a green salad on the same plate and they didn't skimp on the salad dressing. I finished it all. I wanted to try other things. I got the side mac and cheese in a white sauce with peas. Not bad. But the star was the cole slaw with red cabbage. Sweet and juicy as hell I finished it for lunch today. I had a ginger ale and Basil enjoyed 2 pints of Belhaven beer. Last night I went to hear Dessa sing at the Minnesota Orchestra and pleasant surprise Brit's is right across the street! In the past I've frequented Brit's for happy hours and all sorts of other amazing events on their lawn that is usually reserved for bowling. Yes, I've lawn bowled here as well, but also watched Shakespeare's plays being performed, practiced yoga, AND watched a movie! Such a great place to gather with friends inside or out! They have traditional pub decor and eats along with a few sporting events on TVs. They have a great patio space with an upstairs bar. So many great spots to sit and chat and eat and drink. As a rule I tend to always get a Pimm's cup and Scotch egg which never disappoint. This time around I had a club sandwich with chips, British Chips or American Fries which were excellent! We had a sweet server that made sure we had everything we need. I don't think I've ever had poor service here. If you are ever downtown this is a great spot to bring out of town guests even if they are from England! My British relatives would feel right at home! read more

Easy happy hour spot if you work downtown. Although it gets really busy especially during the summer! They have a great patio on the top which is always busy and gets booked a lot. They show a lot of games on here so it's nice to drink and watch on their big lawn. Walk in only too Their food is okay. I'd say after the pandemic. Things have been mid. They took away their wings and I haven't recovered from the betrayal lol. They have really yummy fries and are good when you're drinking a nice Guinness of course. I would like to say that I am a connoisseur of Fish and Chips. I love a good fish n chips, and I have to say I was impressed with Brits Pub's fish n chips. I haven't a clue why they have such a low Yelp score, but I am seeing that more and more on Yelp. Where the score does not necessarily reflect the restaurant. The Fish had a great crisp and exterior color. The batter was tasty and lite. The fish inside did not taste like oil, but was still nice and flakey with great texture. The tarter sauce SO GOOOOD! Are you kidding me with that tarter sauce, one of the best I've ever had. I was very pleased and surprised. On top of that, which I don't ever mention because I think that Yelp should solely be about the food. The service was so great and my waitress was very kind, which should be recognized.
