We were in town for a wedding and decided to have lunch here as we were staying at a downtown hotel. A really good choice. Prefers the fish n'chips and my wife ordered the chicken pot pie. Both very good. A lively place and friendly service. The roof top looked and sounds great but it was a fairly warm day so we opted for an inside table close to the bar. A great selection of draft beers to choose from. They offer an afternoon tea and can't talk to the tea service itself but can say that the cup of tea ordered after our meal was mediocre food service type bagged tea. You'd think the tea would be if a higher quality. There are better options even go purchase some PG Tips tea! A definite return to place. Brit's Pub is an awesome British style pub full of TV's, Lawn bowling courts, and your favorite 22oz taps! My wife and I went for dinner on Saturday night and make sure you get there early or be prepared to wait like we had to. We started off with the classic appetizer of Scotch Eggs! They were awesome! If you've never tried them before and see a fan of hard boiled eggs you have to give them a try! We then ordered the classic pub meal of fish and chips! Great breading on the fish and awesome tarter sauce. The fries were your typical thicker cut French fries so nothing to exciting on that end. All in all it was a great meal and a really cool atmosphere. It is a little pricey for the amount of food you get but still a great spot! read more

The bar was unexpectedly busy by a large group coming in late, on a Monday night, I was part of the very large group. We were treated like an inconvenience. The hostess wouldn't turn the music on as it "causes people to become too rowdy". We were ready to drop some money on drinks and snacks, since the hostess said it's not a bar it's a restaurant even though it's named Brits Pub which last I knew was similar to a bar correct? The poor bartender was alone behind the bar trying to serve several dozens of people by himself. He tried to keep up best he could. But the manager and the woman at the front desk were rude, were making snide remarks about us that other other customers heard and laughed when we decided to leave. They were serving no food, so one of our group ordered a pizza to eat outside. She was rudely told not to eat on at the table outside on the sidewalk and to take it to the end of the block since the pizza would attract the many homeless people who populate the area and that was bad for business. When a large group of people in evening wear walk in to spend money I would expect better service and I would think they would be happy to take our money. I would not suggest going here unless you like to be treated like you are a nuisance. read more

Brit's Pub is just the best Irish Pub you'll find in MSP. The inside is homey and feels like you're in a true Irish pub, and there's a cozy fire crackling on the other side of the room where you can sip on hot beverages in the winter. There are TVs above the bar where you can watch futbol or soccer and the bartenders are all friendly. Upstairs, there's another sort of hidden bar where there host events. The back is where it's at, though. When it's warm enough to open the patio, you have access to two decks of tables and chairs that capture the sun for as long as possible. While it gets really packed, you never feel like you're waiting too long for your next round and there's plenty of large TVs to be able to see whatever game you're watching. The lawn bowling is a fun extra that runs about $12-14 per person per hour. I have yet to try it (apparently the line can get quite long,) but it's fun to watch others as well. read more

Went for lunch on 11/20/2015. Food was fabulous. I had the three piece fish and chips. Too much food for me. Fish was very lightly breaded. Beautiful color and very appealing. We also had a cup of the specialty soup which was chicken dumpling with wild rice. Wow really. It was great from the first bite to the last. Very chicken based with a very nice hint of the rice. Over all our time spent here was so well worth it. Make this a lunch destination on your trip to Minneapolis. read more

Since my review of the competing pub in downtown was received so well *coughROTDcough* it seemed natural for me to review Brit's. Hey, stick with what works, right? And since I know I'm being judged, let's break it up a bit. Useful: Brit's is a shockingly big place. It doesn't look big from the street, but between the several rooms downstairs, the upstairs, and the tables around the bowling green (we'll get to that in a bit), you can pack A LOT of people in here. And if you come after 6 on a Friday, that's what you're going to find. Crowds aren't my thing, so I try to visit during the week, when you can create a nicely intimate environment in leather wingback chairs. The pub food is traditional, authentic, and very good. Oddly, I DON'T like their fish and chips, because they use too high-quality a fish. Fish and chips demands some kind of garbage fish to be tasty, not prime cod. Funny: when I was but a wee little law student, desperate for a job (the market when I graduated was dismal), I found myself interviewing at the law firm where several of the founders of this pub work. I won't name names; you either know who they are or you don't. Anyway, I mentioned that I liked the pub, and the lawn bowling (more on that later). Unfortunately, it had the opposite of its intended effect: he was freaked out that I knew that much about him. The fact that I was at that time working for the federal prosecutor's office probably had something to do with that. He mentioned something about SEC reports during my interview. Needless to say, I didn't get the job. Cool: Some years later, having conned not 1 but 2 firms into hiring me (consecutively, not concurrently), I was at Brit's for the firm's annual lawn bowling tournament. Not to be confused with the lawn bowling league that Brit's runs. No, our firm does our own. Because, out on Brit's immense patio, there is a regulation size bowling green for good old fashioned English lawn bowling. I showed up dressed in the traditional white shirt and white pants. The brown belt and Sperry topsiders were a little less than traditional, but I'm not buying a whole wardrobe for a once-a-year event. As for my performance, I'll merely repeat what I have said many times: I'm a dilettante. I do a LOT of things pretty darn well (but very very few things excellently). Turns out, lawn bowling is one of the things I'm pretty darn good at. [Side note: so is racing remote-control boats in a swimming pool. And softball. By the time I left the firm, I had a reputation as a ringer.] Somewhere out there, there are pictures of Ben P decked out in whites. And if you find them, I'll sue to prevent their publication. I have been going to Brit's Pub for the World Cup Soccer games and I have not been impressed. Today as I was leaving and waiting for a friend, I was very rudely yelled at by the staff to get out of the door area. He yelled very loudly at me and when I stopped to look at him because I was so shocked by the staff yelling, he yelled it again and very aggressively. I will not be treated like that at any place that I frequent. It was unbelievable. read more

Went here for a co-workers goodbye happy hour. We sat ourselves on the upstairs patio and waited 15 minutes just for a server to bring us waters and take our order. This should have been the first sign to leave right then, but we stayed. Two ordered alcoholic beverages, one a soda, and one just the water. The server did not bring straws with any of the drinks following their new "no straw unless a customer asks" policy. I appreciate the motive behind the policy, however, when a customer does ask for a straw, they should be given one without hassle. Our server was rude and provided an excuse of saving the environment and made us feel like we were out of line for even requesting a straw. He did bring 2 of the 4 of us straws by hand, he touched the straws and then we were to use them to drink out of. He had been handling beverages, money, and touching who knows what else! He was the rudest server I have ever encountered and will not return based on his service. read more

The venue itself gets a 4 star rating for the atmosphere and the food. However, it gets a negative 5 star for service. Our drinks were never refilled, we were never given napkins even after asking, we had to place our dinner plates on the floor so we could make room for our dessert plates. When it was time to leave we had to walk throughout the venue to find our server to get the bill. Not only was the server not attentive she was very unfriendly, it was clear she didn't want to be working. We seemed to be a nuisance in her evening. read more

The food is always on point, the beer is delicious and endless, the staff is the best I've seen around. With all the levels and constant events going on between sporting events. There's always a reason like meeting someone from out of town who's staying downtown because it's convenient and easy, a movie on the lawn, lawn-bowling, or--my favorite--football, uh I mean soccer, matches.. And by the time I get over the English pubness of it all, I end have a couple Woodpeckers and always have a god time. As far as the food is concerned, it's not bad, maybe even pretty good as far as English food is concerned. As far as ambiance is concerned, the rooftop lawn is one of the greatest rooftops on the city, and is a wonderful place to whittle away the day (or night). read more

At this bar for the ATL v Portland soccer game. Was cheering for the game with a group of fans upstairs, and another customer wanted to buy us drinks as ATL fans. He informed us that the server cut us off. We asked the waiter why and he told us we were too rowdy and that he can't serve us. A few minutes later a person in my party asks for a drink and the server Alex "allows" us to have a drink and says you were just being too loud, not that we were appearing intoxicated. My problem with this is it's completely ridiculous to cut us off from drinks when 1. We are nowhere near intoxicated. 2. The server didn't even talk to us whatsoever. 3. We were never told once to keep it down. 4. This is a soccer pub, there are multiple TVs in every room and tons of fans. It literally says loud on Yelp. It's completely unprofessional of the staff to tell all the other customers around us negative things about our party when a simple, keep it down would've done the trick read more

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars for Brit's...Went here last night after the St Patrick's Day parade, and understandably we waited a while to sit down. Luckily we grabbed drinks while we waited; these were fine, no deal though. Once we finally sat down we split the Sticky Wings- MMM. Sticky indeed, you'll be licking your fingers like an uncivilised rat while eating these. My chicken pot pie was pretty good, but I'm not sure about the cheddar sauce on top. Overall, there was decent service for it being a mob scene, and the atmosphere was great. I wish the bathrooms were cleaner, but maybe that's asking too much on a designated drunken holiday. I will have to come back for lawn bowling once it warms up! read more

I love pubs. I do not love Brits. Huge letdown after all the hype I heard. Brits has one thing going for it, the rooftop, and they even screw that up. We quickly found a table on the roof, the place is huge. We ordered our pints. They came out a bit too quickly for my liking. A pub that can't pull a proper pint of Guinness isn't much of a pub in my eyes. My wife had a Stella and she said it tasted a bit off. We ordered the sampler platter and a couple of meals. The sampler platter also came out super fast... As in, it's been under a heat lamp for the past 30 minutes hoping someone would order it fast. Everything on the platter sucked. Chicken tenders were completely flavorless and soggy. Scotch eggs just tasted stale, possible freezer burned. Everything was supposed to be crunchy but it all just flopped and wilted when we picked it up. I will say my burger was very good, but at $17 it was about $5 overpriced. My wife got the fish and chips. Again, a pub should be able to do fish and chips right. Soggy is not right. The rooftop should be nice on most nights. Our night was super humid and a few fans would have helped the cause, but I don't think Brits cares. My guess is they stopped caring years ago. read more

Servers were non existent and the server we were supposed to have spent 10 minutes at the table next to us talking to people at the table next to us. A blonde guy with longer hair and a beard. I'd give Brit's 5-stars in the summer because of the outdoor seating, lawn bowling and Tuesday night movies (so fun!). In the winter, it really is run of the mill inside and then I'd give it only 3-stars. Brits does have a good variety of beer, including typically British brands and the food is defiitely of above average quality for bar food. I've definitely grabbed a quick bite here after work in the winter and it is sufficient though not nearly as fun as what this place offers in the summer. read more

The rooftop at Brit's is a great spot to have a few drinks and appetizers with friends. The lawn is used for yoga and bowling occasionally. I haven't got a chance to watch "real" football (soccer for Americans) at Brit's yet but I would assume it be great watching the match with fellow football lovers. My review is based in the high tea that I had with a group of 10. I've been to Brits for many happy hours and the occasional lunch and dinner it's a great spot for that as you'll see many reviews for but they also do traditional English teas. I was looking for a location to do high tea for my sister in laws sprinkle (shower for baby's after the first one). It is very hard to find places to do high tea in Minneapolis, I stumbled upon Brits after having a difficult time with lady elegants in St. Paul. I called Brits and they were very accommodating right right off the bat. Upon arriving we ere brought to a quite room to the right of the main bar. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that the room could use a good scrubbing and their were some rips/ tears in the buffet we sat at but it wasn't terrible. The tea consists of everyone being given their own pot and choice of tea. A HUGE selection assortment of scones, cheese, sandwiches, and deserts. The food and service were excellent as was the price $17.99 for adults and $9.99 for kids. Kids also get a different menu and hot chocolate but a ton of food! Great value and highly recommended!! read more

being new to minneapolis and there for just a few days, i decided to wander down the nicollet mall until i found a restaurant that looked intriguing. when i walked past Brit's i thought, "ooh, i could go for some hard cider" (i don't drink beer, and i wasn't really in the mood for hard alcohol) and made my selection on that basis alone. i must say, for a decision based on such a trivial characteristic, it turned out really, really well. i was totally unsure of what to eat, being torn between my love of buffalo wings and feeling like i should order something british, and so i asked the waiter for recommendations. he suggested the fish tacos, which i normally would not have picked out, but i went with 'em anyway and they were delish. the fish was grilled, not fried, and was so light; there was a plentiful amount of avocado; and the salsa gave it a perfect tanginess. it was all very tasty -- as was my cider -- and the bailey's irish creme cheesecake that i decided to treat myself to was also yummy. all in all, i'd say the food was 3 1/2 stars, nothing to write home about but definitely satisfying, and the very nice (and cute! though young, i think) waiter earns the extra half a star because he was very friendly and smiling the whole time. good stuff. read more

First off, this is a 3.5 star review, only because our server let us order off of the kid's menu. It is not a 4 star review, because the food was perfectly average, and the beer selection lacking, considering that I had heard of everything on the menu with the exception of the cider that I ordered purely because it was new to me. Moreover, my friend and I were seated in an essentially deserted area (despite the patio upstairs and downstairs being packed), but I think that was because we were ordering food at 10PM. We also decided that the crowd was too old for us (we're 21 and 22) and doubt either of us would come back save for some lawn bowling. read more

Here's the thing about all the British and Irish pubs I've been to in the downtown area: Decor and vibe - authentically passable as "across the pond." Other clientele - generally not so much. I don't know what it is about pubs from the British Isles that brings out the out-of-control fratboy-on-spring-break in so many people, but Brit's is no different. To be fair there are also a lot of professionals that come in for a pint after work in one of the nearby towers, but there just seem to be so many loud white baseball cap wearers as the night goes on (disclaimer: I have nothing against white baseball caps if they are worn on a sober head - they just seldom are). Also, on summer Saturdays it seems that for whatever reason (the shared wall with the Doubletree Inn perhaps?) Brit's is a pretty popular place for bachelor/bachelorette parties. So I don't go on weekends anymore. "That sounds like only one star, Kev," you may say. But here's why it is not: The food. I am the grandson of a Vermonter from English ancestral lines, and not even he could make such a savory pastie. Also the curry is a notable gem. They have a commendable collection of taps, and the rooftop is a really pleasant place to kill an evening or take in a movie when it isn't overrun by drunks. I've got a couple of friends getting married here in the private space upstairs next spring, so I may amend this review once I can experience the place without the intrusion of strangers to my evening's revelry, but for now a solid three stars - good food, great space, poor vibe received from fellow drinkers. read more

I met up with P and a friend after my rehearsal at Orchestra Hall. I was really surprised that the place wasn't busier. We were on the roof top and had a great table. Service was meh. Nothing spectacular and a little stand offish (yes you may be a pretty boy but we are paying). The food was ok. Not something I would go out of my way for. We had an order of calamari. Some of it was fine but the majority was over cooked and rubbery. Again it is an ok place. read more
