The food, drinks, staff, and ambiance are great. We were in Minneapolis for 36 hours and made it to Gluek's twice (our hotel was across the street). The bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly, as was the server we had the second night. If you're visiting from out of town, get a boot (or stein) and an order of cheese curds. Memories to take home with you for sure! The live music was entertaining, but if it's a bit much for you, they have ear plugs and the back area's sound is dampened. Next time I'm in town for baseball, I'm trying more of that food menu!

This place has an ambiance like no other! Love love love the vibe in here. So cozy and historic feeling. They did a great job when they rebuilt a few decades ago. Service left something to be desired especially considering they weren't that busy when we first arrived. We really enjoy German fare so thankful this place is in town. Food was good, not great, but we'll definitely be back.

Stopped by on a week night before going to an event in the area. Wasn't too busy. I joined my cousins who had arrived before me and already put in drink orders. When I sat down I was greeted by a waitress for my drink order. A few moments after she left a waiter came by to also take my drink order, while dropping off the other drinks. He seemed really confused about me placing my order with someone else but he did end up being our wait staff for the duration of our meal. We ordered food and I feel like service peaked at the drinks (in the beginning). The food didn't take too long to come out but once it did our waiter didn't come back for long periods of time. They have mustard on the tables as well as napkins and utensils but you have to request ketchup. 2 of us ordered fries as a side as well as 2 of us had burgers (I actually had the vegan option the walnut burger). Both my cousin & I thought the burgers were dry and mine was very thick w/ the thinnest layer of garlic aioli. A bit of ketchup could have helped so much. After realizing the waiter wasn't coming back I had to start eating as is because we had somewhere to go. The fries were decent, crispy and lightly seasoned. We were just about done eating when the waiter returned but my cousin wanted to order another drink. We seen the waiter going in circles multiple times before bringing the drink, like he forgot. Same thing happened when he came to pick up the checks. I felt like overall it wasn't my vibe. The food options seem decent looking over the menu but I did not like what I ordered.

Let me start out this review by saying I love the ambiance of this place. Super cool vibe. The service and the food were not up to par. I ordered a currywurst and a cream ale. The beer was delicious. Served in a chilled mug. The currywurst was disappointing. The brat was good. Not much taste to the curry sauce. All I could really taste was that it was so salty. Everything was so salty. My husband got a bacon cheeseburger. They had asked how he'd like it cooked which he answered medium. When he finally got his burger this burger was so well done that it was difficult to chew and swallow. It was one of the driest burgers we've ever ordered. The service was also not great. It wasn't super busy, being a Wednesday evening. The waiter would disappear for 10-15 mins at a time. We would order a beer from him, and 20 mins later he's at the bar pouring the beer. We were never checked in on after food came out so we were never given the opportunity to ask for ketchup. Which maybe would have made the burger a little more palatable. When we were finally able to get his attention to ask for the check, he took our bill and card. Ran around the bar for what felt like 10-15 mins. With our card in his hand before running our card, which I found a little unsettling. I have been to this bar before so i know it has not always been this way but I regret to say this but, this was a less than enjoyable experience. Unfortunately we will probably not be returning to Glueks.

While looking for a good restaurant around the downtown area, we decided to try this place out. Stepping into the building, there was an immediate historical vibe and a sense of a well established restaurant frequented by many satisfied patrons. I later come to find that it was one of the oldest bars in Minneapolis! Lots of pretty cool historical facts that came with this building. The atmosphere was pretty neat. The food was also super delicious and service was great. Highly recommend this spot!

An old, old historic building with a long-time-running German restaurant. As with age, the floors are beat up, the tables are kinda sticky, and hallways aren't particular spacious. But Gluek does a lot with what they have, and everything is clean (including the bathrooms) with friendly service to match the laid-back, pub vibe. Not a place for quick in-and-out food, but a solid choice for sitting down and socializing over dinner or drinks. It feels like a small business that's tried to offer some of the larger, tourist-y amenities and styles without losing its small business roots. PROS: -Delicious German food. Pretzels were fantastic. Sausages were super good. Fries and ranch (okay, not German) were really great. Some food (like the sausages) have some heat to them, so make sure to ask if that isn't your jam. Everything came ridiculously, unedibly hot (I consider this a good thing!), and we didn't leave hungry. -Service was friendly. Not fast, but very efficient when they popped over to check in on us. Felt very "We expect you to be laid back and enjoying yourselves" in a way that's very different from the business-speed of surrounding businesses. -Seat yourselves. Even at "peak" hours, Gluek was still doing self-seating, allowing us to pick the spots away from large crowds of people. Speaking of, expect quite a few of those here as their multi-person large tables make it easy. -Solid pricing. Not cheap, not expensive. A more friendly option for the budget, but you're still in downtown Minneapolis, so don't get too excited. -Great beer. I tried a couple and zero complaints about the beer. Very true to their stated beer styles. -A really cool history. There's some info about the history around (the oldest bar in Minneapolis, including multiple fires), and it's neat that it's supporting a smaller business with such a long-standing background. CONS: -We never saw this place full to the brim, but it's gotta be super loud when it is. Half-full got decently loud. Old buildings with wooden surfaces everywhere are not particularly quiet.

I came here to see music and have a couple drinks. The ambiance was super cool and I really enjoyed the music. The sound quality was great. Our bartender was very attentive and efficient, so no complaints there. The bar is downtown, so you will need to pay for parking and walk over, but that is pretty much everywhere in the cities. I did not eat, so do not have any opinions on their food menu.

I was looking for some good, local beer and walleye, so this was the perfect spot. The staff were all super friendly and really knew the menu as well as the history of the place. They have a solid tap list with a broad range of local options. I got the walleye sandwich (grilled) which was amazing! The fish was perfectly cooked and flaky. They definitely didn't skimp at all with the sumptuous portion. The coleslaw was a nice counterpoint with a slight pineapple undertone which was good. Would definitely come back in the future anytime I'm in town!

Stopped by right before a Chris Tomlin concert with my German wife. Wonderful experience, actually exceptional food and Craig was also great!! Super busy but he was super kind, attentive, and fun!! I plan on coming back here every time we return to the Target Center and Field. It's a hidden gem, a lot bigger on the inside than it looks. Great fun atmosphere.

Fun German bar that has live music several nights a week including the weekends. It was my first visit to Minneapolis and something about this place looked interesting and inviting. There was a band playing but it wasn't packed so I found a spot at the bar to take in the music and grab some food and drinks. I was quickly brought a menu and my drink order taken. I found out from the bartender that Gluek's is the oldest bar in downtown Minneapolis. The menu has your standard German food: schnitzels, Bavarian pretzels and cheese, Spätzle. I got an order of the pretzel sticks which came with a side of spicy German mustard and bar cheese soup to dip it in. I also ordered the Berliner sandwich which had tender chunks of pot roast perched on top of sourdough bread and topped with sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese. It was served open face. It was tasty but felt it could use a gravy or sauce over it to pull all the flavors together. Food and drinks were reasonable for a downtown area. Glueck's is worth checking out if you're looking for a upbeat environment with live music and authentic German food.

Zavier my server was a very attentive server I was able to get my schnitzel sandwich without the bread and it was just enough very busy before the Foo Fighters concert but they run like a well oiled machine

Love German food, but didn't enjoy my lunch here. I was super pumped to try the Schweineschnitzel Spaetzle, but was disappointed w what I was brought. The pork breading was saturated in oil, meat was very greasy, the sauce was flavorless, and the Spaetzle was denser than what I've had before. I wound up eating part of my sister's Mediterranean platter instead. Best way to describe our waitress is w the word, "snarky." She didn't really answer our questions about the food, and was sassy when we asked her questions about Minneapolis. Don't need to go back next time we're in townZ

This place does get busy so definitely keep that in mind. Luckily I made reservations ahead of time so we had a table waiting for us, otherwise we would have been put on a waiting list since it's a small space. They put us in a corner booth which was nice and spacious enough for 4 people so I'd definitely recommend asking for a booth verse a table if you're planning to come with a larger group. The servers are all very friendly and helpful. I appreciated their attentiveness and sharing what they like best, especially for what's in season based on the time of year. The menu has quite a bit of variety too which is sometimes unexpected when you come to a pub-style location. For appetizers we got Onion Ring and Fried Pickles. They were both really good and served with dipping sauces. Definitely both shareable items so if you're in a group they'd be great options! My entree I chose the Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon served with lemon soy marinade, creamy cucumbers, and jasmine rice -- it was SO good!! I loved the creaminess of the cucumbers especially with the rice and than the lemon soy marinade was just a unique touch to the salmon. Toned the flavors down without overpowering acidity. And the salmon was so dreamy, a beautiful pink color that you just knew it wasn't a farm raised salmon. Plus the portion was very generous!! I'd definitely recommend the Alaskan Sockeye Salmon to anyone interested in visiting here. #eatwildsavewild The only negatives (which are more so just knowledge bombs for you): * Restaurant is VERY loud. It's hard to hear because it is one small room that everyone plus the bar is in. I wished I would have took a picture to show what I mean. Just know that if it's an intimate setting you're looking for this is not the place. So be prepared to talk loudly over the loudness and ask "excuse me?" or "repeat that" many times throughout your visit because you're not going to hear everything. * Timed eating. Because this place is a hit with limited seating, once you get a table and complete your meal/payment you'll kindly be asked to leave so that they can clean up and open the table to next in line. Totally get that and am not put off by this at all, but I could see how it could catch some folks off guard especially if you are out for a meal with folks you may not see frequently-- so just keep that in mind. This is not the place to sit and talk post meal. * Parking is limited. Be prepared to walk a few blocks as the road parking in front of the business is pretty limited especially with the other stores and restaurants in the area. Regardless of those few bullets I highly recommend folks visit George & The Dragon. It's a really cool spot and the food was great! Plus theirs a malt shop right next door that looks yummy too, so definitely worth visiting and getting malts after for dessert.
