We arrived with what I would have to say was "average expectations." Only to leave with one of the best experiences we have ever had at a tasting room. Miriam was a wealth of information concerning both the wines themselves, and the philosophy of the winery. Exploring single block wines and getting knowledge of each block while discussing the vintage characteristics was fantastic. Excellent selection of wines, from a small boutique winery. It being Pinot country, I really enjoyed the vertical tasting of three sequential vintage of Pinot Noir. I do not have the most sophisticated pallet, so this really helps me desurn the subtle difference I would miss otherwise. The server was educational as well. Fun time. read more

My husband and I purchased a bottle of the Brittan Vineyards 2015 Pinot Noir from their tasting room a few years ago. Today, needing to appreciate something unrelated to covid-19, something to treat ourselves to, we opened our coveted bottle of wine. And oh my- love , love , love this wine! Five for the wine, 2 for the tasting. Great location, we read about the tasting room during our stay at the Allison (amazing place to stay!). We were on a wine tasting week vacation. During our visit there was absolutely no other guests. And this being a Saturday with decent weather. Brittan Vineyards, please rethink your policies. You offer different wines with varied prices. We bought two of the most expensive, yet you charged us a $15 tasting fee? I understand you have a printed "three bottles free tasting" policy in the tasting room, but maybe you'd have more business if you changed things up. We really enjoyed your wines but felt a bit stung. We had tasted at other wonderful wineries during our week. The fee was waived when we purchased wine. We could've bought three of the least expensive for what we purchased. Great staff, great location....but won't be back. read more

A hidden gem. We were recommended this off-the-beaten-path tasting room. We like bold. These are bold pinots. The Gastalts and the Basalts are going to be rock stars. Get a 2010 Gastalt or buy a newer vintage and sit on them for a couple of years and wow your sophisticated friends or be greedy and keep them to yourself. Don't be afraid of the whites either. I've become obsessed with cool climate pinot and after a tasting and K&L in SF, I had to hunt them down when I was in Willamette. We call to get better directions once we arrive in the burgeoning McMinnville wine ghetto. Soon I find our discussion superfluous as I see Robert Brittan walking toward us. When a tasting is with the winemaker and the wine is good, you know you're in for a treat. We walk in to his new digs where he makes the wines for Brittan Vineyards and Winderlea in Dundee. They're still building the tasting room. Heck, they are so new to the place there isn't even signage. It's just a normal day at the winery. We stroll in and he asks, "Are you in the biz?" No we aren't, but I'm a pinotphile, he's fairly new to the scene and it's out of season and the middle of the week of what turns out to be Spring Break at all the local high schools, pretty vacant. So the question makes sense, but it also makes me almost feel bad because I want to buy his wine by the case, but at my salary that simply isn't possible. Anyway, we're here and he's got some wine to taste. Robert Brittan is so informative and passionate, it's infectious. Both the 2010 were a bit closed (2010's a cool year, so it's expected). The Basalt was much more extroverted with redder fruits. The Gestalt block had a bit of an attitude. Closed, with plenty of structure (very acidic as it's one of the coldest vineyard in Willamette), with restrained hints of savoriness but very ephemeral and impossible to pin down. If you like a girl that gives you a little cold shoulder, this is the wine for you. We took one to dinner (which was essentially like infanticide because it is truly build for the cellar), but it did fulfill all the promise I hoped time would give it with elements of gun-flint, cinnamon, spice and a salty mineral to pair with darker fruits with flowers on the nose. Also he does a Syrah, which is in very small quantities, from the barrel it was as promising was as any I've had from Cali or Washington (Bedrock...Wind Gap...Arnot Roberts...Gramercy). He also had a chard barrel sample from a very old vineyard adjacent vineyard to Brittan (Hyland), which had a gorgeous linear nature and grassy aromatics...how often to you get that from Chard? We honestly didn't ask many Q's, because we were just astounded and kept glancing at each other incredibly impressed. His wines are dense and profound, but what do expect from a guy who majored in philosophy. I think he just made a Brittan drinker out of me. Tasting: 2 pinots plus barrel tastings. Price: Comp'd. Appointment: Required Overall: Great tasting. Great conversation. Very open. If you're a cool climate pinot lover who wants structure (acid and tannin) in their pinots it's a great stop. Of all the wines we tasted on our tour, his were our favorite. read more

The assistant wine maker was cool but the wines are too acidic for my taste. Cheaper to buy a $10 bottle and call it Brittan.

We were assisted by Ben who was extremely professional, friendly, and EDUCATED in the wine department. He was able to answer all of our questions and more.
