DARK BAR ALERT. Major speakeasy vibes. It's not that easy to get a table here but we lucked out. They make a damn good hot toddy which is great for fall. The pizza is so good and fresh. They can customize aspects if it, like only putting bacon on one half to accommodate for vegetarian friends. It had a fun atmosphere and I could see myself spending hours there. Great Pizza Options, Great Drinks, Nice Informal Dinner I brought 4 couples here last week after a day visiting Greenport. We were hungry and thirsty. This was a great place to stop for a casual and delightful dinner. Between us, ordered some beer, wines, and specialty drinks, all served cold and quickly. Ordered multiple pizzas knowing we could take home extras- devoured most but had leftovers that they boxed up for us to take home. We all left happy. One word of warning- when you go downstairs during daylight it's really dark and hard to read the menus- so we used the flashlight features on our cellphones to overcome this. If you finish dinner and go back outside and it's still light out, your eyes have accommodated to their basement speakeasy darkness and it's a bit blinding. My wife and I went to Greenport for the weekend and we heard Brix & Rye was a must. We couldn't find it for a while as it is hidden, which is very cool. We sat down Saturday night for dinner and WOW. We are from the New York/CONN and have had all the top pizza places from Sally's to John's of Bleekers. I have to be honest. Brix might have had the best pizza I have ever had in my life. Gourmet pizza with a wide selection of toppings is this restaurant's only saving grace. Really an underwhelming experience. This place is such a cool speak easy. It's so dark inside. We would up here three times during our 2 day stay. We only had a white pizza with truffle oil it was great. This is probably the coolest bar I've been to on Long Island. It's tiny and can get crowded, and you're paying $10+ for a cocktail, but it's so so SO worth it. The bartenders are knowledgeable and crazy talented- they will spend more time on your cocktail than you're used to, but your patience pays off in an expertly crafted, crazy delicious drink. The Northside Collins is my jam in the summer, but they do some seriously funky stuff there. The decor is funky. (There's a taxidermy fox somewhere in there?) It is definitely dark, but duh, it's underground. If you're hungry, get a meatball. I am dead serious. Go to this speakeasy, order a fancy cocktail, order the meatballs. The best pizza I've ever had. Yumm it was delicious and mouth watering. We had the Red pie topped hot cherry peppers and meatballs and a separate serving of meatballs A M A Z I N G. The olives were perfectly marinated and the drinks were so good. The Barbadian drink was great and the strawberry margarita. Love this place. Was visiting Orient and heard about Brix and Rye. It's under an empty looking store front near the American Beech hotel in Greenport NY. Once you walk in there is shuffleboard on your right and the stairs to the bar are on the left. You feel like you are in a speakeasy basement. The lighting is very dark. I needed help seeing the drink menu. They are master mixers here. My husband loved his old fashion and I enjoyed my Mai tai too. The food menu comes from the pizza place upstairs next to the hotel as well. It was so good we ate it twice that week we were there. The appetizer meatballs were delicious. For pizzas you can order one of there ideas like the clam and garlic pie or you can create your own like I did with artichoke and prosciutto on the red pie. They also do white pizzas if that's your pleasure. The crust is thin and crisp- soooo yummy. You won't be disappointed. Loved the bartenders. They have great personalities and work very hard. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is cool, the drinks are solid (they have a boozy eggnog concoction that will knock your socks off), and the food is terrific. Great little spot in Greenport. I've been coming out to the North Fork since I was 10 or 11 I think and it is amazing to see how much has changed. I think Brix & Rye is a good indication of some positive change and options that have come to the little village. It's tied (I believe) to Pizza 1943, I can't imagine where else they got it from. The pies were fantastic, nice and thin NY style. We shared a margarita and a specialty pie - can't remember that name but basically mash potato, bacon and cheese - yeah your mouth should be watering right now. I had a vodka martini cocktail, a little heavy on the sweet vermouth, but fine. The pizza was incredibly and the vibe was what will bring me back. Visiting family out in February, not usually a ton of places open, so it's great to find a treat like this. My mom loved it - she lives in Southold and I think she found a spot for a future ladies night. Looking forward to returning before the insanity of the summer crowd. read more

It's hard to give a place set up like a speakeasy in a small town any less than five stars. Well, if the food wasn't good then maybe it wouldn't deserve the five stars, but I have to say the Margarita pizza as well as a white pizza with garlic and meatball really hits the spot (along with a great selection of local brews, such as Barrier, Greenport, and Crooked Ladder). The ambiance starts off the experience by leading you downstairs to the main bar area. Then, the beverage choice staples it as a good choice for a drink (I had the Greenport Brown Ale which added to the dining experience). Finally, the food drives it home with fresh pizza and wonderful ingredients, as a must try location in Greenport. If you like the idea of speakeasies, pizza, and beer then this is the place for you. read more

There is no sign (they just opened 2 weeks ago). Sharing a building with 1943 pizza, look for the main room with a shuffleboard table in the window. At first it doesn't seem like much until you go downstairs.... Into a lovely candlelit bar which is just the right size, not too big, not too small. The bartenders take obvious pride in their work delivering on a solid cocktail menu. I didn't try the 'backsliding Presbyterian' because I don't love Whiskey, but it is one of the best cocktail names of all time!! Rather, I enjoyed a gin, cucumber, mint concoction - the name escapes me and the hubby enjoyed a sweet tea vodka drink that had a nice kick to it. We intended to have just one drink before dinner, but everything was so perfect, we stayed for a second. Bonus! Order from the 1943 pizza menu and have delicious eats with your brew. My favorite drink here is the Northside Collins which is a very refreshing cucumber cocktail made with gin, pamplemoose(grapefruit liquor), cucumber, mint and soda. This place is hard to find. It's around the corner from 1943 Pizzeria. It's in the basement, but the front door is street level. Look for the words Brix & Rye on the front door, then enter and go downstairs. At first this establishment seemed like a romantic, moody speak easy, my kind of atmosphere. Not so much when you see young adults of questionable age passed out at tables. Took a while for our food to come out and then we waited forever for someone to come back to order dessert, when they did, they immediately handed us the check and didn't ask if we wanted anything else. I asked for a boozy, no gin, stirred Brennivin cocktail and got a fabulous surprise - a Turf Club with Brennivin substituted for gin. I hadn't even mentioned my passion for Luxardo. Either the bartender was psychic or I just got very lucky. We had dinner reservations elsewhere, so didn't try the food or get to stay for the live music which was setting up as we were finishing. Evan is the best bartender I've ever seen. His drinks at fantastic, his knowledge of each spirit, wine, and beer being served is miraculous. On top of that he makes you feel known, and important. Evan's service combined with the amazing food, makes this somewhat drab and cavernous bar come off cozy, warm, and worth staying for that second, or third, expertly crafted cocktail. Fantastic! A must for any fan of craft cocktails or speakeasy-type bars, and maybe a must for any visitor to Greenport, period. We had a few drinks, both from the menu and bartender's choice. Shout out to Dave behind the bar for making everything perfectly. Two standouts: As a bartenders' choice, I asked for something gingery and got a Moscow Mule, which was initially disappointing because it's so classic and potentially boring, but then I tasted it. They make it with a twist here. It's simple, but makes the drink unique. I won't give away the secret, you'll have to try it yourself. As my other bartender's choice, I asked for something with mezcal, and got the Oaxacan Old Fashioned. It was a bit too much for me--maybe I'm not man enough for old fashioneds--but I drank it all and could appreciate it, even if it's not what I usually go for. Aside from drinks, they also serve food. The menu is small but strong, including curiosities like the option to put mashed potato on a fresh pizza. We had an ice cream sandwich--with house-made gelato and locally made cookies delivered every other day---and it was up there with whatever your standard-bearer for ice cream sandwiches is, be it Jacques Torres or the Meatball Shoppe or the $1 train-station machine sandwiches. Went there the other night for old fashioned style cocktails, what a great spot! Casually elegant look, hip but not annoyingly so. A wide variety of excellent care crafted cocktails. They'll bring in food from the pizza joint next door if you're hungry, or you can just sit with your well put together drink. Great selection of smart booze to choose from.
