So much promise here. The store is small but nice, in a nice setting with tables outside as well as in. The bones for a great bagel shop are all there. The issue for me is the bagel itself. I have made my own and have eaten NY style bagels for 50 years, and I know what I'm looking for. Especially when I see a bagel shop called "Broadway Bagels". The difference is the way these have been cooked. A NY Style bagel is shaped, refrigerated overnight, and then boiled in the morning before being baked. It changes the complexity of the crust and the dough through this process. Personally - I believe that is what makes them the best. These bagels - to the best of my knowledge, have been simply baked. They are Panera style as in Panera bread. F you like that style - go for it ! These are equally good. If you prefer NY, then I hope the owners might try the suggestion to boil before baking and see what happens. But make sure you shape and let them rise at least 8 more hrs in the fridge overnight. The amount of sausage and egg on the bagel was sad I think it's around $4.50 for the bagel with one egg, and then, an extra $2.50 or so for meat. I don't feel like the amount you end up getting is worth that cost. I really debated getting a bagel with flavored cream cheese, but I wanted the breakfast element! The bagel itself was good! It was soft while still being toasted. I also got a 1/2 order of home fries! They were $5, which I also thought was a bit crazy. The fries themselves were pretty good! I recently moved to Spartanburg, SC from New York and was so excited to find this "new york style" bagel shop. Well it was pretty disappointing. Ordered a bacon egg and cheese. Was asked if I wanted my bagel toasted, said yes and then received a not at all toasted bagel. There was barely anything on it and it cost $7. We stopped here on a Saturday morning around 10:30am - they were busy but easily handled the line. We both got breakfast sandwiches so it took a little time to cook but nothing out of the ordinary. The bagels were tasty and so were the egg and meat. Coffee was good too. I actually heard someone behind me on line bragging to their friend about how good the coffee is. I agree. Ok I usually do at least 2 tries at a place before saying I don't like it, but as I am getting older (and some would say more cantankerous) I find patience wear thin a place named Broadway Bagels fails to deliver the goods big time. I was excited to go there, hoping that it would live up to having eluded to one of NY's finest inventions. I was sadly disappointed, the bagel wasn't toasted ( I asked for that) the egg and bacon and cheese were hardly visible and the bagel itself was tasteless like it came from the supermarket freezer section. I know for a fact that there are several places (especially in my are of Myrtle Beach) that have exceptional bagels so it isn't geography. I rather think that this place is just getting by selling what they call bagels to the locals and as long as they don't complain, they will continue to make the same substandard food offerings. Alright...I love Broadway Bagels but I had to stop to write this review bc of poor management on a very busy Saturday morning. There were only two teenagers working to cook and take orders and the line was all the way to the door. The guy cooking was extremely overwhelmed and didn't handle himself very well - he was frustrated, was barking out rude commands to the girl trying to take orders and kept looking back at the line to see how many people there were. I mostly blame management for understaffing on the busiest time of the week. The food is great here but they need to get their act together if they want to keep their business. I have moved from spartanburg to Nashville, but whenever I come back I have a few places that I love to go to. I came back for thanksgiving and brought along a friend, who loves bagels and I told her that we had to go to my favorite bagel place. My mom said that she had a coupon for Broadway bagels, from the annual spartanburg/greenville coupon book. Upon arrival we presented our coupon and were rudely told that they were under new management and did not accept those coupons. ***THESE PEOPLE ARE COMMITTING FRAUD/PRICE GOUGING DAILY** They charge 25% more than the prices listed on their menu. Literally just had the worst experience I have ever had at an eating establishment of any kind. I'm 51 years old! I was overcharged the previous time I came in here, over $6.00 for a bagell with cream cheese. It didn't match the price that was on their menu but I didn't do anything about it. Today, I was overcharged again. I looked at my email receipt while I was waiting for the food. On the menu board, the breakfast wrap was $6.99. I was charged $8.78 plus another 0.79 for cheese. My boyfriend was overcharged for his breakfast sandwich. I went up to the counter and inquired. They kept trying to argue with me and I plainly pointed out that the prices they charge are not what are posted on the menu. The girl taking our order said that's because"that menu is from the old owner from 25 years ago. We don't know how to change it". Are you freaking kidding me??? I suggested having poster menus made to hang over them then. I asked for a full refund and we would take our business elsewhere. They didn't want to refund me anything because she said they already prepared our food. Then they gave us an arbitrary discount and handed me $13 in cash. Then they wanted that money back and wanted to only give me $4.00. That was actually fine with me because that made more sense. Then they changed their mind again and only charged me for the breakfast sandwich and gave me back what they charged me for the wrap. They threw a bag down and said, "here's your sandwich". I asked about my wrap. They said they weren't giving me the wrap. WTH??? So we still got overcharged for the breakfast sandwich. Two lessons: *NEVER GO HERE. I got an everything bagel with cream cheese and immediately wanted another. I do business in Spartanburg frequently and will now be making a point to stop here for a bagel. I come here as frequently as possible. Amazing bagels, not those pre-frozen Panera bagels (although those are fine in a pinch). Excellent breakfast platters. Servers are super accommodating and they remember my family's order and special requests every week. I'm sorry to see other reviewers commenting on the service. The young women who work here don't have clownish smiles all morning, but they are gentle, attentive, uber-competent, and--in my opinion-- very sweet. They've made every effort to accommodate us and if there has ever been a mix-up (often my fault with my large confusing orders), they've corrected it at no charge. Love that group. I always had a great experience at Broadway Bagels while growing up, great food and service. This past year I have had nothing but unacceptable service. I went in one early morning and ordered 2 different bagels, both were incorrect orders and none of the young girls behind the counter were interested in being helpful and were actually quite rude. Today, my coworkers and I tried to order lunch from this place. We called in the morning for a menu and the young girl that answered the phone spoke as if she was hungover or still asleep and said there was no way we could get a menu unless we came in. We called in later to give our orders only to be put on hold (setting the phone down on the counter) for 13 minutes before we were hung up on. When we called back, it was the same story. I love their bagels but I will never go back until I am reassured that the service has improved a great deal. It may help to hire adults and not teenagers with attitudes and no work ethic. read more
