my fave new bar on the uws. Great sound track (classic rock through new alternative) played at a volume you can talk and hear through, light enough to carry on a conversation but not bright, cool decor filled with conversation pieces, great great great beer selection. for food its just a warm pretzel, chili, hummus and pita, or a knish. Something for everyone, but you won't come here to eat, you'll come here for convo, beer, and maybe to watch a game with music on. the only bartender i've been served by there is super chill. I've been here a couple of times, but most recently it was game 3 of the series, 1st game at wrigley, and the game was on and a few cubs fans were there. I'm a mets fan and could really care less which of these loser teams was going to move on to win the series (kidding...), but they didn't have the audio of the game on but there were captions, and we all watched bill murray sing "take me out to the ballgame" and about half ways through, around "buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks" someone started to belt it out and then we all joined in and the entire fairly packed bar of mostly disinterested patrons were singing take me out the ballgame together with bill murray and it was just pretty awesome, very memorable, and the crowd i brought there were all impressed with the NYC experience. read more

This is a dive bar (in name and in actuality) in a neighborhood that actually could use more of them. Sometimes all you want is a beer or a shot of whiskey. In that regard, Dive Bar does the job. Don't expect any more than that though. It's not the kind of place that you want to spend any length of time at the bar. Some of the clientele is very young; others are the hard drinking crowd that are almost exclusively local in nature. I would give it a higher rating except that the bar staff tend to serve some to excess; the last time in there a few months ago one particular patron (the brother of the barmaid) decided to become overly aggressive to a customer and ended up clearing the place out. I'm not going to go as far as to say I'd never go back, but I think there are far better alternatives out there. read more

I've been going here for 7 or 8 years because I live close in the neighborhood, but the last year or so have found myself going elsewhere if I want a quiet beer from a reliable selection. The owner has been filling the place with coolers full of bottled beers. Some good beers but it means less and less space to find a place to sit. But even worse, the generators for all those coolers create a hell of a lot of noise, which the bartenders try to hide by turning the jukebox way the hell up. The tap beer selection is also a bit strange. Around 15 taps or so, with three reasonably priced constants: Bud Light, Guinness, and Stella, of which Guinness is the only one I can stomach. A few other taps are also fixed but are more expensive. The rest rotate through various beers, and the selection is just chaos. One week it seems like they have 6 IPAs and two weeks later there might be just 1; likewise, one week no porters or stouts and the next week three or four. Pricing on the tap beers can also be pretty whack. About a third are "reasonable" at $6 or $7 a pint, but the rest are expensive stuff that run $8 to $10 for a 9 or 12-ounce glass. Upscale prices for a downscale local. They also stuck in a "balcony" platform a couple years ago. Nice idea I suppose, but I can't count the number of times I have seen people nearly brain themselves on one of the posts holding the thing up. If there's more than 5 people in the bar, it can be a real maze trying to get around those posts and bar stools when you're trying to get to the bathroom in back. read more

Much better than it's sister bar on Amsterdam. Cozy, neighborhood place with wide election n of beers and great cocktails. The staff is fun and irreverent. Lots of foreign tourists visit for some reason. No frills but we like that. read more

Broadway Dive Bar is easily the best bar in NYC. Every single bartender here is seriously the best person in the world. Not only that but Jason hosts the coolest trivia night every Tuesday at 9pm. If you live in the upper west side then you must come here and even if you don't live here, you should still come for trivia or drinks. They have an always changing selections of delicious beers and some really high end Japanese whiskeys that are also super fantastic as well. read more

The bartenders are friendly, Allison is a sweetheart. I imagine since it's a narrow place it can get crowded, but I was there on a Monday night and it was fine. They have Guinness on tap (an essential for a bar). They'll also let you have a taste of the less ordinary tap beers such as Espresso Stout to see if you like it before you order an entire pint. This place is just divey enough... meaning it's unpretentious, laid back and chill, but you likely aren't going to get puked on or get into a brawl. Friendly and tipsy gals sell you homemade cupcakes....they offer free hotdogs and tootsie pops...and yes Allison the scallops are awesome. Good solid neighborhood pub. read more

This is not a favorable review of Broadway Dive Bar. I am a 60-year-old male of slight build, no upper-body strength to speak of. On Monday, September 17th, I entered the bar at 11 p.m. I ordered a beer and was pleasantly surprised that San Francisco Giants were on TV, a rare occurence in NYC. I watched 3 innings of ball, and then, I noticed that two musicians were setting up right next to me. Not long thereafter, they began their musical set. I cannot begin to describe how loud their music was , on a par with a jackhammer. I decided to move to the other end of the bar where I was still able to watch the game. I complained to the bartender about excessive noise. I told him that the bar's space was not large enough to accomodate the noise produced by two live musicians. He agreed, but he also indicated that management felt that live music might attract a younger crowd to the bar. At this point, someone tapped me on the shoulder, so I turned around and saw the Bouncer, who obviously had a ton of upper-boy strength. He said, "Sir, you have to leave." I was incredulous; I did not think that I had done anything warranting ejection from the bar. Surprisingly, the Bouncer laid hands on me in an attempt to physically escort me from the bar. I said, "Don't you dare touch me." Repeatedly, I warned him not to touch me. After what seemed like an eternity but was probably just 30 seconds, I determined I was in great danger, and therefore, I exited the bar. I believe that the Bouncer was in the wrong; Dive Bar management should closely monitor his words and actions to determine if he is violating the rights of the patrons. read more

This place be the bomb. An amazing bottle shop (beer) with a whiskey (-e) selection that rivals the King Cole bar. This is the coolest little dive bar! Lots of personality, interesting decor- airplanes, elephants, a fish tank, giraffes! Lots to look at. Also offers some great bar snacks, nothing fancy but totally hits the spot. Well worth stopping by. read more

Been to this place a couple times during my short vacation. Great beer selection, friendly staff, and there was good crowd! I think there is something to offer everyone. When my phone lost charge, the staff was quite accommodating. They have outlets to plug in and charge your phone. This was very helpful. I will definitely come back! read more

nice place. my boyfriend and i ended up here late night last week - great selection of beers, games to play (connect four!) those some of the pieces are missing. good music. the bartender was fun even though she had a massive leg brace on. at one point, she was pretending to be a pirate, so i guess she was making the best of it. lots of regulars, it seemed, and friendly. my boyfriend almost retched in the men's room, though. and some of the people were... characters. in the tim burton sense of the word. good times! read more

I tried this place with a girlfriend last night, and it was a huge hit. Neither of us live on the UWS, but I found it because it was the only place that popped up when I googled "where to find a Westbrook White Thai in NYC." Westbrook is a brewing company in my home state of South Carolina, and I was delighted to find a hidden gem of a bar that has it! They have a great selection of IPAs and other craft beers, and the bartender was so nice. She let us sample different beers we hadn't had before, and gave great recommendations. Very reasonably priced too, and you can take craft bottles and cans to go! We will definitely make the trek to the UWS to go back often! read more

I like this bar, I really do. They have reasonable prices, especially when it comes to beer and cider you're planning to carry out (I will say the cider on tap was a whopping $11). HOWEVER: they really misrepresent themselves when it comes to liquor. I've been a bartender for several years and it's always been cheapest stuff on bottom shelf, mid grade in the middle, top shelf on top. I didn't even think to ask. Granted, I did find it strange when I saw Four Roses and Widow Jane on bottom, and did find it strange to see Bulleit mid, but I counted myself lucky. I was shocked when my bill came (over $100 after tip for five drinks plus a cider) and I saw that I was paying mid-shelf pricing for what I felt had been advertised for bottom shelf. Maybe this was a simple misunderstanding, but I felt that a bar that had literally announced itself as "dive" was misrepresenting itself, should be familiar with UWS pricing traditions, and was selling itself as more like lower east, not upper west side pricing. read more
