I'm in shock about how awful this place is. I believe it is where dreams go to die. The owner Kristy was wasted and so belligerent she was hugging my boyfriend and me one minute then screaming angrily at us no more than five minutes later---get a grip woman! It was so bizarre we ran away laughing but avoid at all costs unless you want to put yourself in danger. There is a pool table in the back where ppl are strangely possessive and serious about pool. The older woman bartending that evening was not only extremely rude, but vulgar. She appeared to be intoxicated for the duration of our encounter - giving us the middle finger, swearing at us, and even grabbing her own crotch at one point. The Thu-Sun night bartender may be a little high strung, but she will always do you right if you just wait for her to finish dealing with credit card receipts and everything else, because it's just her behind the bar with no support. What a name! This is probably one of the few bars that let dogs roam free. Yes, there were a few dogs, and they were cute. There's a pool table in the back, which costs $1.50 in quarters. Came here on a Sunday night. There were a few people. One can shoot some pool on the billiard table. With $1 you can choose one song or two from the music machine to be played in the bar, depending how many credits the songs cost. Beer on tap is $5 plus tip. Listen. I rate based on definitions, not expectations. This is a dive. A divey dive. But as far dives go, you couldn't do better. Warm, clean, dim, and peaceful. Plus, inexpensive beers ($6 a pint), cheery/local crowd, charming bartender, pool table, TVs, and a jukebox that's not too loud. Place smells of the free popcorn! If you compare this to everrry bar you've been too, you won't last 3 minutes. But treat this like you would any dive, and just like all others, it'll suffice. read more

This place was actually awful. My friends and I came after a long night to chill and play some pool and we were immediately met with so much attitude from both of the bartenders. When we tried to play pool we were told we had to play against the bartenders?? (even though we just wanted to play against each other), who were unnecessarily competitive and condescending about our playing. We've had little experience playing pool and had no intention of playing a full on intensive game, but the bartenders had other ideas. I even heard one of them complaining to the other about us "scratching" multiple times. Ma'am, you don't have to take it that seriously, ITS JUST A GAME :) we didn't even want to play you in the first place. It really ruined my night. 2 stars because everyone is nice. If you remember Night Cafe on 106th & Amsterdam, you probably know this place. Same kind of crowd, with a little more "diversity". See what I mean coming up... I have been to Tap A Keg a few times during the daytime, say 11am, and multiple times in the evening just to catch up with some neighborhood friends. Scary note #1: The daytime crowd IS the night crowd. The last time I was there I was chatting with the bartender and was startled at the sound of really loud jingles. I assumed the bar's door had a bell on it, so I turned to see who was coming through the door. Instead at my feet was Scary note #2: a wet, dirty dog (literally it looked as though it had been dragged through mud) shaking off at my feet. Jingles = its chain. Scary note #3: The dog is a regular here, too. There was another lady, around 40 or 45 years old hanging out at the bar as well, somewhat tipsy/wasted, and constantly smiling at us hinting a want to interject. She gets another drink. At this point she has lost control of her eye and thigh muscles as she can't make eye contact or walk without holding onto the backs of the bar chairs. Scary note #4: It's 4 o'clock in the afternoon on a weekday. 4 o'clock of course means that school's out; does mommy pick up daughter? NOPE! Scary note #5: Daddy and daughter pick up mommy from the bar! AH! The wasted lady picks up her daughter and sits back down to finish her drink. Father plops down next to them. Scary note #6: The bartender asks the daughter (8 years old) if she wants her USUAL! (a Shirley Temple) So by diversity, I meant dogs and children. read more

Aside from a loyal cast of local regulars, I'd say the best thing about this joint is the pool table in the back, which never seems too crowded. Not to mention I play well here, watch out. Ended up stumbling in here with my friends after dinner to grab a quick beer. Several, several hours later I can say I left after having had a fun time. The place was deserted on Friday night, which I thought was weird, and I'm not really sure why. The place is simple. A bar on the left, some tables and chairs on the right and a pool table in the back. The beer selection was good for such a small spot, and was served in chilled glasses... nice touch. The prices were standard and the bar tenders both very friendly. Did have to deal with some local yokel who claimed the pool table was his, but it wasn't really a problem or anything. I've heard the happy hour specials are pretty good, but I can't comment as I went at night. But seriously, it's an average neighborhood bar, if you're looking for a simple place to meet for a few beers or play some pool, this is as good an option as anywhere. read more

Dive bars, oh how I love a good dive bar. Don't except royal treatment here. They might even give you a little tude (which you probably deserved). But this place is one of the only ones I'll go to to just grab a drink on the UWS. They except credit cards with no minimum. They have a cider on tap (angry orchards) as well as Magners in bottles. And a solid selection of beers. Its a chill vibe. Nothing crazy. I've been many times with many friends. I thought this place was great. A group of us were walking north from 100th st looking for a place to stop and get a drink after dinner, and this is one of the first places we saw. Just a regular unassuming neighborhood dive, nothing fancy. There's a pool table in the back but since it was being used we sat at the bar. There was good music playing the whole time since they let staff play music from their phones, but not so loud that we weren't able to hear eachother speak. There is nothing pretentious about this place. You get what you expect for a basic barroom, but nothing more. There is something dated about the place, and even as a dive bar, it seems to lack something. Daytime bartenders are older women who seem throughly annoyed with their jobs and their patrons. This is definitely the place for the hard drinking crowd, no amateurs need apply here. Not sure how they get away with dogs in the place, running around everywhere including behind the bar. The environment was nice and chil however when I ordered a margarita, it was made it with orange Juice like what?! There was an argument that broke out in the bar with the bartender, I guess the person was trying to point out that you don't put orange juice in margaritas and she was rude and nasty; cursing at each other. The bartender , Katelyn refusing to change the drink, to buy it again and asked the person to leave. Her attitude was unacceptable if the guy came nicely asking to change it.
