Not a bad market. I dropped in after my daily run to pick up some fruit when I saw the display set up outside along with fresh flowers. Stepping inside from first sight it looks small, but as you wander around the store is winding and set back with aisles on an upper back level. Had to check out the beer section to the right of the entrance. Not a bad mix of domestics, imports, and crafts. Nothing special though that will wow you. Prices were OK. read more

I have lived in the immediate area for nearly a decade. I am an AA woman who's background is in the arts. I maintain a strict pescatarian diet not deviating from my purchases when I shop there. Today, I decided to leave the review I've been contemplating for 2 years with the hope of improvement. I have moved beyond the shadow of all doubt regarding the following observations of being personally subjected to REPEATED racial profiling. I must unequivocally state that I have never witnessed similar behavior with other customers who are non AA customers while shopping. 1. The store manager Scott ALWAYS strategically positions himself at the front of the store and casually observes me when I approach the checkout counter while pretending to be occupied. If he is outside receiving deliveries and notices when I enter, he will immediately leave and within moments, I notice him positioned within observational proximity. After observing this behavior seemingly becoming a PATTERN since 2023, I respectfully and discreetly one day had a word with him. I shared it seemed as if he almost surveils me upon my entry (including that day). He vehemently denied this indicating he "doesn't follow me around the store" adding that he doesn't follow me to the "rear of the store." I politely smiled as I listened and agreed with him because he never has nor did I state he did. This is because what I ALWAYS purchase is stocked in the front section of the store (2 gallons of Spring Water/3 packs of freshly sliced oranges/2 packs of cubed papaya/2 bowls of tuna pasta salad and a small, plastic container of mixed, pitted olives). However, he watches me like a hawk. The manager then proceeded to assure me that if he WERE following me, he would have no problem letting me know. When he isn't there, other male workers such as Juan (today I learned his name); as well as the elder, tall, thin fellow (evenings) AND another pleasant Latino gentleman of small stature with a full moustache usually behind the deli area will stop what they are doing positioning themselves to watch me, as well. They always turn QUICKLY away when I look them in their eyes without saying a word. Today, I didn't look away as I usually do (pretending not to notice). I stared at Juan while I was online without saying a word. He turned nervously away realizing I was looking at HIM observing me as if I were a jewel thief. After paying for my purchase of 2 pints of cubed papaya and one pint of sliced oranges, I proceeded toward the exit with my eye still on him. When I didn't look away, he then proceeded to 'spit' inside of the large trash receptacle to the left of the inside entrance of the market. I quietly remarked, "That's quite nasty" as I exited the store. I have also observed that out of all of the cashiers (mainly Hispanic women who are regular cashiers and one AA female cashier), the manager and/or acting managers in his absence have a tendency to stand near the bagging area of the AA cashier's counter. For the past year, I have narrowed my weekly purchases down to water and orange slices once a month when I don't feel up to traveling to either Trader Joe's or Fairway (both more viable options). As a customer I feel uncomfortable and know that she as an employee is subjected to worse. The stress of this form of passive aggressive workplace harassment is quite palpable to me as a customer and must be overwhelming for her as an employee. read more

As I was walking in last night I looked at reviews that talked about repeated overcharges. And then low and behold the manager was ushering an elderly customer out after admitting that he was overcharged $15. The customer wanted his money back right then and there. The manager only offered store credit, which the man did not want after what happened. the Manager was aggressive to be sure and he said "THESE THINGS HAPPEN, OK?"; "Come back Monday to talk to the owner or take your store credit"... I was on the alert and found 3 of my items were charged for more than the price on the packaging. I told the clerk and she said, "These things happen". I said, "not to me". So yes be careful! If you go, which I plan to do again, since I like their food, Tally up your bill and check for discrepancies before you pay! read more

I feel weird writing this, since it seems some other Yelpers have had bad experiences, but honestly, I like Broadway Farm a lot. No, it doesn't have everything, but I'm intrigued by what it does carry. Wheat germ you haven't seen since the 80s (but with a good sell by date)? Yes! Freshly shaved parmesan that tastes heavenly but doesn't break the bank? Also yes. Mexican street corn and guacamole flavored like Mexican street corn and hydroponic butter lettuce??? Also yes! Fresh coffee while you shop? Also yes. Dolly Parton's caramel turtle brownies? Also yes. This place specializes in the obscure and I am here for it. This is the poor man's Fairway but sometimes it is good to be the poor man. The aisles are a bit crowded but I like how it seems like everyone who shops here is an old timey New Yorker and not a tourist who thinks Trader Joe's is a local, hood supermarket. (No offense to Trader's, I love you too hon.) I've never gotten sick here, but maybe I have been lucky. They give durable shopping bags as well and the cashiers are the loveliest! If you are not up for the crowds and lines at Trader's or Fairway, this is the place to go. read more

I live right around the corner and I want to like this place, but it is horrible and they are price gouging. As with every convenient store in Manhattan, prices are expected to be a little more, but a 12-pack of White Claw is $30, while it's $16.49 at T*rget and $18.99 by Dr*izzly--DELIVERED! They're basic stuff too, like olive oil, or mayo is easily 200% markup. Greedy owners taking advantage of their location because there's nothing within 5 blocks that can compete. I'll stop going here, I don't even care if I'm desperate, I hope this place goes out of business like everything else in the neighborhood. read more

Upon arrival I was told rudely by an unkind Caucasian male "WE CLOSE IN 15 MIN". I responded " I'll be quick." This man along with an Asian male made me and my son very uncomfortable by they way they angrily gazed at us. I believe these men were both managers. I should have just walked out but I needed last minute items for my son. I noticed people arrive after me that weren't black and they didn't get the same scolding upon entering the store. Upon Checkout the Asian male manager says to the other manager the "gay guy will be out next week!" He repeated twice as if it wasn't offensive to say. I looked up at this person and he continued to give me and my son unkind looks that made us uncomfortable. The cashiers were so kind, I am sad that they have to work in such a poor environment. Lastly, they are price gouging. I paid $20 for less than a half of pound of cherries. I will never visit this racist store again! Someone needs to do something about this. read more

The produce is, as others had said, overpriced and overcharges happen too often for it to be an accident. But what really bothers me the most is how incredibly RUDE they are. When I was jn the store yesterday, I asked the cashier of she could ting up my celery without my putting it on he counter (as of this writing we are still dealing with covis and they do not clean the cashier's counter between customers. Not only did she answer me in the rudest possible manner, but after I walked away, she kept talking about me to other customers. I didn't need celery that badly, so I left. And found it for less at the lovely fruit and vegetable stand across the street on 86th. I will not be back anytime soon. read more

I have shopped here many times in the past out of convenience... much of the pre-packaged produce is camouflaged.. meaning they surround the bad pieces with better ones so you don't discover that half the bag / container is rotten. However, they are close, have a wide selection of produce and dry goods and they are open always.. Tonight (10:45P - 5/8/18) I went in after work for some grocery items.. During my shopping, an incredibly loud electric saw noise emerged... followed by what looked like a cloud of nightclub smoke that smelled like sour burnt wood. I left the aisle I was in and witnessed a gentleman with a massive demo saw working on one of the 3 checkout counters They were actively sawing apart a checkout counter in an open grocery store with all food exposed. Kicking massive amounts of sawdust/particulate matter into the air, so thick it hazed up the interior. They were dismissive and hostile when questioned. a Video will be sent to the NY State Dept of Agriculture and Food Practices. It is HORRIFYING. NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN.. This store is definitely overpriced, but they do have good quality stuff. They also have an extensive selection of dry goods in the back, which I actually didn't realize until about my 3rd visit here. I can't say I stop by a lot, but on occasion I do pass by and grab some fruit and veg if it's on sale. In my opinion though, you're better off getting your produce from Fairway and your specialty stuff from Zabar's. read more

Like another reviewer said, overpriced. It is great to go to if you need something way late at night or early in the am as it is open 24hours. What I do enjoy of this store are the $1 special packages of fruits/veggies that can be worth it. But quality is another question. You get $1 quality for the pack. It looks like you would have to cook, eat, use these items the same day. In my opinion walk the blocks south and do your grocery shopping at the other markets where the prices match the quality of produce. read more

The deli man, who is always rude really upset me today. Because he wasn't just rude, he was lazy and also not health conscious. I asked for a pound of boiled ham, he gave it to me with many little black droppings in the bag. When I asked what they were he said he didn't clean the machine before he sliced the ham, he had been slicing pastrami prior to the ham. Another deli man, not rude, said he would clean the blade and slice another pound. The rude one then said, there is nothing wrong with this. He was angry that I thought that this was inappropriate. It is wrong at anytime, but in the time of covid-19 are we not suppose to be hyper vigilant about cleaning! I have said this before that I won't go back. I only went today because I thought it would be convenient. I'd rather walk 10 blocks and wait online at Trader Joe's read more

I never write reviews but I felt compelled to let the internet know how horrible this place is after several times getting burned here. Outrageous prices and extremely rude staff - the cashiers don't acknowledge you when you approach the register and can't be bothered to stop what they're doing to check you out. I waited for a couple minutes right in front of an open register and then when i gave up and moved to a different register, the original cashier looks up and says "Why you mad, i was busy". I get treated like half a person in here. Walk the extra blocks to go to a different market, PLEASE. read more

This is a pretty awful store, overpriced and not much choice, but you can get the basics -- bread, milk etc. The constantly changing cashiers need some training in how to be pleasant to customers. Managers seem to change as well, and each time the choices of food you like go away, and the people up front are more and more unfriendly. Also they're so concerned with profiling other customers whom they think are gonna shop lift that theyll neglect you while checking out your order. More than once While the man was scanning my items, he would stop and walk away to go stare at someone who just entered the store.. I dont have time for that crap.. and it happened basically every night I'd go there for a while. Also this one time i poured myself a cup of coffee and then noticed the cup was leaking after I paid, I went to put a second empty cup under it to prevent the leak, and I was told I would need to pay for the second cup.. I would give this place zero stars. Dishonest and rude always - they overcharge you for groceries almost every time and when you point it out, they claim it was a mistake with no apology. Everything is way overpriced, even when they barge you the list price. Some of the cashiers are nice but most of them are completely rude. They now have a policy where they refuse to help bag groceries - but don't say anything, they just throw the bags at you. Just a consistently horrible experience going here. When one moves within walking distance of Zabar's, one thinks one has died and gone to grocery heaven. Then, one realizes that Zabar's doesn't actually sell groceries. Just pastrami and rugelach. Now, granted, I could probably live off of those two food items alone, but when you want actual groceries and don't want to schlep down to Fairway or Whole Foods, you go to the Farm. As others have noticed, it's best to lower one's expectations. The produce is fine - yes, Fairway's is better, but can you get a package of grape tomatoes at 3am at Fairway? No you can't. I go for basics and the occasional sandwich from the deli. Everything's decent and it's certainly a cut above the sketchy Met foods on Amsterdam. I'm happy knowing B'way Farms is there for me 24 Hours a day, 7 days a week. read more

So, I'd been in here a couple times, but it was always at about 3 in the morning and I was sleep deprived or drunk as a lemur. I thought it was a nice little produce place. So, tonight, I'm trying to find the ingredients for baked potatoes, and after failing in visits to Fairway and Westside, I ran in here. Of course they had baking potatoes and green onions. BUT, I turn a corner and ... wha? It's a whole grocery store. Yeah, it's kinda moderately meh, and the prices are about the same as Westside, but, how often do you get to feel like you discovered a whole new grocery store? Unshockingly enought, this really isnt a farm. I think the name intends to reference the fact that there is always fresh produce outside, much like a farm? That's my story and I'm sticking to it anyway. The key thing about Broadway Farm is that it is open 24 hours. The other (selfish) key thing about it is that it's very close to where I live. We're talking Umbro shorts and a short sleeve tee-shirt in February close, which is a walk I frequently tackle. I can take the pain of a short freezing walk, and I'm often too lazy to properly dress myself. Their deli counter is well-stocked, although they recently increased the prices of their sandwiches by almost 10%, but you know.... inflation I suppose. And the sandwiches are good, they really pack the roast beast, turkey, cheese etc... in there. Prices on other items tend to be a bit pricey (soda, beer), but I do find they have some of the best produce in the area in terms of freshness. They also make their own brie with a layer of pesto and sun-dried tomato in the middle that is ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. If I could review it, it would be 5 stars, and anyone that lives on the UWS must purchase it after reading this review, it really is that good. No, seriously, if you're reading this and you live in the area, run (dont walk) down there immediately and get some, even if it's winter and you're in shorts and a tee-shirt,,,,,,,, it's that good! read more

There is an older indian or pakistani guy there as manager who is extremely rude and angry, firey all time. I have seen him taking products from a customer and threw them with excessive anger. Each time I go there he is arguing either with staff or an unlucky customer with his eyes popping out with anger. I stopped going there because of his personality and scary angry face of him. There are lots of grocery stores around who needs to see this nasty guy. Someone should fire him or the store will go down! read more

Welp.. it's a grocery store. I guess. The fish section has a very scary smell to it most of time. I thought it was just extra fishy, but a gross piece of salmon for dinner that night proved me wrong. They have an OK produce selection... but for any basics I need, I go to the guy with the fruit and veg cart across the street. He is always there and charges far less (obviously). As other people are pointing out, they're overpriced. Not just overpriced for NYC, but seriously way too expensive. And yes, the staff are extremely unhelpful. I only ever stop by here if it's late (they're open 24 hours) and I urgently need something basic. Otherwise, I hoof it to the Fairway on 74th and spend about half the price on better quality items. read more

I'm just waiting for this dilapidated, ridiculously overpriced grocery store to close. I don't know how this place still exists in 2015. I only shop here as an absolute last resort, and to be honest, this neighborhood doesn't have many grocery options, so on many occasions I've had to walk 10 blocks to fairway to pick up just a few basic items in order to avoid being ripped off at broadway farm. The produce can literally be double the price versus the produce stands on the corners. Why people support this business is a mystery to me. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. Last night I bought a box of strawberries that I didn't realize cost $12 (!) until after I was rung up. Okay fine. But this morning after cutting up the first 4 strawberries, I realized that the ones underneath were moldy and rotten. Were talking brown and gooey. For $12, I expect the fruit to be edible. I go back and I explain the situation to the cashier - who was very kind, we had a nice, friendly interaction - and I tell her that I didn't want to exchange it for another carton of strawberries I'd rather get a credit and do other shopping. She says okay, goes outside and tells a man who I assume was the manager, and he comes - literally- charging back into the store and starts yelling at me and making a scene. With a raised voice and dramatic hand waving, he accused me of eating half the contents of the carton and says "No! I can't do anything for you! You ate half the box!" I calmly reminded him that these were $12 strawberries, that he sold me rotten fruit, and he just continues to make a scene. At this point, other customers were staring at me, which was embarrassing (and clearly what this guy wanted). Eventually he said that they could give me a "$5 or $6 dollar credit" and then proceeded to bark at his employee about how to do it. The employee was very kind but clearly as embarrassed as I was. I feel really badly for the people who work there. This guy is a bully and it's not okay. I will never go back here on principle, even if it is conveniently located. Oh - after leaving, I went to the fruit stand guy across the street and got an entire bag of fresh fruit for less than the strawberries. read more

Tons of fresh produce that they keep outside which is great, except when you buy overpriced grapes in January and they're frozen. Most things are grossly overpriced here, but they are open 24 hours, so if it's late and you're in a bind, it's the place to go. I've been coming to this store for over 18 years. Sure the prices are on the higher end but this IS the upper west side. Plus way cheaper than gristedes. Just after the pandemic picked up steam in March 2020, the hours were further reduced to 8pm. Horrible.

Buyers be aware, the cashiers routinely charge a higher per unit price. For the past 3 times I shopped there, the unit prices were inflated at check out, EACH AND EVERY TIME. From vegetables to fruits, they would charge you anywhere between $1 to $2 more/unit than the labeled prices. It was obvious that the cashiers themselves were fully aware of the labeled prices and know how much to add and what reasons to give if confronted. My wife and I have lived in this Upper West Side neighborhood for more than 50 years and, of course, have become faithful customers of this particular store. It's convenient, but otherwise a mess. Aisles are dirty and unkempt; product displays spill over into crowded aisles--a hazard for those of us using canes or pushing shopping carts. I've grown to accept the higher-than-usual pricing--only because the store's location is not far from home. The help? Barely visible and mainly curt when queries. The manager? Snappish and someone I'd never post a question to. Today, he hit absolute bottom on the scale of effective store/employee management. While I was putting my purchases in my backpack, he was literally screaming and threatening one of the cashiers (who kept her cool and continued to work) for a refraction that he felt to be unconscionable. This woman has been in his employ for some time and has always seemed efficient and able; whereas other cashiers have come and gone. On bad-weather days, this woman has been there--a gold star, if I was doing a rating chart. Today she was under fire. He was screaming at her at the top of his lungs. She responded calmly. I wanted to smack him. I also wanted to shout at him but decided that the imbroglio needed to cool on its on, without my involvement. My purpose here is to urge the store owner to consider removing this man. In my book, there is no substitute for competence. . and no excuse for managerial temper tantrums. read more
