Ordered their New York Steak (medium rare) and Filet Mignon (medium). The outside was super dry on both. Also dry and tough on the inside. Their website menu indicates their steaks come from Pape Meat Company which is a highly rated local meat store. However upon returning their tough-as-jerky steaks, the server lay blame on a different meat vendor they switched to. He also suggested our choice of meat doneness was a factor and ordering replacement steaks wouldn't matter, essentially laying blame on the us. The new Filet I replaced it with was still the same. I suspect these steaks were also frozen and not brought to room temperature before cooking. These guys lack the expertise or incentive to select quality steaks, store them, then cook them properly. They also lack fundamental customer service skills. It explains why Broadway Prime down the street had a larger crowd of diners. I'm going there next time! read more

My wife hosted a mid-Sunday afternoon private birthday party for me here at the Broadway Grill. She was looking for a local place with good food options, live music and good space for ~30 people. The new owners were nice, professional and worked with her in planning and executing a great party. We met in a room upstairs above the restaurant. The chef put together fantastic food options from charcuterie, ravioli, grilled shrimp and dessert cakes- everyone (including me raving)! The piano player was great and even stayed an hour longer for us. We've enjoyed dinner here after new owners took over recently, but now we have an appreciation for their desire to be the place to enjoy dinner and/or a party on Broadway or in Burlingame! read more

So, being the adventurous little one that I am, I decided to check out what this Broadway Grill was all about, and my experience was nothing short of yelptabulous. We came here to dine during Motown Mondays which apparently gets filled up fairly quickly. There was small mix-up with our reservation as we had made it online, and technically they were already booked when we had made it. The hostess quickly informed the manager who took care of the issue in no time, and even gave us complimentary drinks for our wait (which was just a few minutes). With my nice 'n strong vodka tonic in hand, I was a happy camper as I made my way to our table :) FOOD The menu in-house is different from the menu online, so keep that in mind. I knew it would be a good night as soon as the hot garlic bread balls were placed on our table. Any restaurant that serves hot bread is fine by me (such a small detail, but it makes a good impression!). We ordered the pei mussels as an appetizer and it came with chorizo sausage. *drool* The mussels were on the smaller side, and it was slightly pricier than usual, but they were delicious. As for our entrees, the BBQ ribs quite literally fell off the bone as my so was giving me one to try. I ordered the crusted blue cheese filet mignon, and it came with the perfect medium rare. The quality of the meat was all there, and it was quite tender. The presentation was slightly lacking, but the food was solid and I was more than satisfied. SERVICE From the hostess, manager, and to our server I was truly blown away. Everyone we came across was genuine, and did their utmost to provide outstanding customer service. You can't fake sincerity, and they went above and beyond. A stand-up job I must say. ENTERTAINMENT Last, but not certainly not least..It was a straight up party from the moment we walked in til the moment we left. The restaurant is filled with anniversaries, birthdays, and even retirement celebrations. From 7:30-9:30 Fred Ross is belting tunes from the Commodores to Al Green and everyone is up on their feet. This place is nothing like I had expected it to be. For some reason I had thought it was going to be play on the 50's diner rather it was more like a grown-up jazz bar or something. Perhaps there were many more decor motifs I didn't touch on but hopefully you get the idea. We were seated and immediately given water to start. I had spied on the menu prior to coming and knew I wanted the Steak Frites while the others weren't as sure. My dish included a nice slab of flank steak and of course fries. I had asked for an aioli but they could only offer me mayo to dip my fries in, same difference. For the steak I asked for medium but it came out more like medium well which for the sake of tenderness is a no no. I won't lie, while the steak was tasty it was tougher than I would've liked it to be so thank goodness for the provided tough knife or else I would've looked like a cow constantly chewing it's cud. Ugh... I really really hate trying to find good food in Burlingame. It seems like restaurants up here that actually serve food properly are few and far in between. I had some sort of jack cheese and spinach with mushroom omelette. Unfortunately the chef doesn't seem to understand the logistics on how to make a decently acceptable omelette. My spinach was still raw, same with the mushroom. Seriously. If I wanted a salad, I would have ordered a salad with eggs. My friend ordered the eggs sunny side up, they came out scrambled. Our server didn't seem to know what was going on with the menu and was just zoning out the entire time. I don't think she even recorded our orders down properly! ARGHHH!!! read more

Great local spot off Burlingame's Broadway Avenue - every once in a while, I like to visit Broadway for the small town vibe it offers. Broadway Grill is closer to El Camino Real and, seemingly, a favorite of older Burlingamers. Seriously - this was THE place to be for senior citizens this one sunny afternoon. The outdoor seating setup is quaint but today we opted for indoor booth seating. Service was prompt, though we did have to ask for our bread basket - yummy buttery glazed little pieces of carb heaven. Our party of four today enjoyed the following dishes - all of our orders had the option of adding fries, fruit or salad: - Grilled Vegetable sandwich: veggies grilled to perfection, but... I asked for no aioli which is mayonnaise-based, and they still spread mayo on all four pieces of bread - my bad for not clarifying further but the mishap tainted my entire meal experience; my side Caesar was not tossed (dressing on the side and it just seemed to thick); - BLT with avocado: looked perfect to me and my lunchmate gobbled it all up; - Philly Prime Rib: "Screamin'!" and fries were decent; - Thai Chicken sandwich: adequately dressed (didn't require any additional spread or seasoning), flavorful and tender chicken; the fresh fruit accompanying the meal looked fabulous. All in all, I think I'm curious enough to return to this local joint to experience some of their breakfast items. "Beef. It's what's for dinner." Remember the ad campaign? Yeah - that came true tonight. My colleague was jonesin' for a steak so we decided to check this place out. Ambience: It's a mix between a steakhouse, sports bar, and jazz club. A little schizophrenic, but somehow it works out. It was classy enough to dress up if you wanted but not so much that you couldn't bring the kiddos. Also, there was an upstairs balcony where live music gets played. This night, the Warriors were playing in the playoffs so of course that was on. Service: Knowledgeable waiter and pretty good service. It wasn't anything super special, but it was good for sure. Food: When at a steakhouse, get a steak. I had the petite filet with a loaded baked potato and mixed veggies. The filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare over an applewood fire grill. You could definitely taste the smoky flavor of the wood permeating throughout the meat. It was also spiced well and didn't need anything else. The sides were okay, but easily forgettable compared to the steak. Verdict: if you want a steak, this isn't a bad place to go - I've had better, but I've definitely had worse. read more

Omg... this place is pretty awesome. Came here for brunch and the second we walked in my friend got serenaded by a live singer. Thats right... they have live music here and I would assume all day because who hires a singer or band for brunch? (This place does!) The service is great, and so is the food. I already forgot the name of the dish that I ordered (sorry :[ ) but it was the breakfast burger or something along those line. Essentially, it was a 'burger' with vanilla waffles as the bun, topped, sunny side up egg and bacon. Yummmmm. Additionally, I had the pleasure to try their corn bread. It came in an iron skillet pan and topped with jalapeno butter *drools. I highly recommend this place! My two friends who came here before mentioned that every dish that they tried here before were delicious and it stayed true with my visit here ! read more

I've been here three times in the last year and have had different experiences each time. The first time around, we went for a friends birthday and there must have been 25 of us. The food came out hot, tasted great, the prime rib was amazing and everything was great! That's what led me to trip number two. The second time around I went with my gf and the service was awful, the prime rib was one giant slab of grisle, the shrimp scampi came out cold and it was all bad. The waiter seemed irritated that I mentioned how terrible the food was. Considering those two experiences practically canceled each other out, I went back last night for round three. Completely mediocre. Food was bland, but not terrible. French onion soup was good, not great. Service was really good, but considering the cost, I think last night was the last time for me. I don't want you to read this and decide not to go, I just want you to know that in my opinion, it's not all that. The spot is very inviting, the dining room is large and looks great, they had a Dean Martin "look alike" singing last night, they have live music and dancing on Friday nights, it's a cool spot. Now I'm not gonna give it five stars just because I met Will.I.Am there and was able to shake his hand, take a picture of him, and my nephew getting his autograph...No, I won't do it because of that, but that just kick starts my night! The piano player singer was great and I'm usually not the type to go up to the piano and observe, but I did because he was that good. The atmosphere of the place was swanky and loud, which was perfect for our family. We even had kids with us, but if I were to go there again, I'd love to go with friends sans kids or just a nice date night with my hubby. Our server was very friendly as well and when I asked her to help me choose between the steak and the trout, she told me they were both good and we had a huge laugh about her not helping my indecisiveness at all. It was all good in that restaurant! I was in the mood for a sangria and so I did and that put me in the mood to order a whole bunch of things, but of course everytime I eat out, it's always conflicting with my vow to eat right. So instead of ordering the steak frites, I choose the butter brown trout with capers and lemon zest. How yummolicious does that sound and still be "healthy?" The trout was perfectly seasoned and that skin at the bottom of the plate was somewhat crispy so uh huh, that was delectable! The espresso cream dessert was heavenly~ so creamy and totally whipped into submission, it was like chocolate, coffee, whip cream and smoothness just had an orgy and produced a baby. read more

After a 4.1 mile hike from dropping off my car in San Mateo, I was bushed. I was greetly warmly and was brought to my table. "Take your time" she said after I mentioned my voyage. The interior's very nice and airey. At 1030Am on a weekday, it was virtually empty. I had the All-Star omelette. Good but not fantastic. Their potatoes on the the other-hand were special. They had like a salsa or picante mixed in. Very nice. Will have try them again. read more

Had dinner at the Broadway Grill this past Saturday night...was seated immediately and greeted by one of the most friendliest, warmest waiters I've ever had! Ordered some wine and was served promptly... We had the tuna sashimi appetizer (I've posted a pic 'cause the presentation was tres impressive!)...not only did it look good, but it tasted delicious!!! I had the Scallops and my date had the pasta seafood...both was incredible!!! We dined while listening to live jazz....it was excellent food, excellent service and wonderful music! This is really focused as a kid friendly place with ~5 items for kids all for $5. The adult entrees are around $20. You get your choice of meat: prime rib, steak, chicken, pork loin, salmon. There were no sides listed so I don't know if they change all the time or if they are set but there were no choices (not good for the picky eater like me). There were also some pastas. We had the chicken breast (juicy but boring flavor) and the prime rib that is also put on the grill for a little bit. The prime rib wasn't bad, not House of Prime Rib but much better than the tough PR that I wrote about for Broadway Prime down the street. I left most of my chicken behind and my husband shared his prime rib with me. The sides that night were mixed veggies (prepared very nicely, simple and not over cooked) and potatoes layered with cheese (forgot the name). But for the lactose intolerant not a good choice. It would be nice if they offered a couple of sides to choose from each night. Well so far just an okay meal and we were waiting for the highly advertised fresh warm cookies for dessert. The waitress dropped off the dessert menu and walked off and didn't bother to tell us what cookies they had that night. When she walked by again without looking at us we stopped her to ask what the fresh cookies were tonight. She said Peanut Butter. I don't know about the rest of you but it seems that a lot of people these days can't eat nuts. I'm one and so a big disappointment - no cookies for us! Overall we're not in a rush to go back. Maybe for those with small kids that are just wanting to go out to someplace that serves you, has cloth napkins and your kids can have a PB&J for $5 then it's probably a good place for you. The food is okay, not great but not bad. Our waitress wasn't the best but they have a lot of staff cleaning tables and filling water all the time so they seemed pretty good. The place opened the week before Christmas 2006 so hopefully things will improve with some feedback. read more

My family likes this place for medium-sized get-togethers, and after frequenting here at least 5 or 6 times, I thought it'd be time to finally yelp it. Pros- quality and presentation of food; great prime rib that is juicy and tender; salmon is a great alternative if you're not a meatlover Cons-pricey; portions can be small for main dishes; SERVICE (we had asked the server to grab utensils for us to share a dessert and instead of getting them right away, she went to go take an order from another table while our ice cream was melting!) I recommend to try this place for their prime rib and interesting pasta dishes (like their crab mac&cheese). My New York steak was a little rare and they were very happy to cook it a bit more. I ordered it medium rare, but it was more rare than I'd like. It came back perfect. My family and I were here for Easter brunch last month. We were looking for a brunch place that wasn't too expensive and somewhere close by our neighborhood. My sister originally suggested Moonraker in Pacifica, but was completely booked at 11:30am slot and only had 1pm openings, which was a bit late for "brunch" (yet I still managed to visit Moonraker for dinner at another time nevertheless, go read my other review :P). Looking for a brunch place wasn't the easiest thing given our quasi last minute decision, so I was glad when I found out Broadway Grill was offering All-U-Can-Eat brunch for $40 per person, reasonably priced considering most other brunch places were charging at least $55 or more, EXPENSIVE and not very affordable!!! Some restaurant in Menlo Park was charging $90/person, fancy upscale style of brunch no doubt. :O I was not disappointed to say the least, and was happy that I made the reservation to come here. There was live jazz music and the selection of brunch items was pretty impressive, with a carving station serving prime rib and lamb shank. My brother-in-law and brother enjoyed their bottomless Mimosa for $12, whereas my sister and I sipped their signature cocktails. Our server was a sweet and nice young lady who managed to stayed cheerful and patient the whole time, which I was indeed grateful because Easter Sunday is an important time of the year to be celebrating with family, not working. Well, even the malls were closed that day. I am glad that my family didn't complain about my choice to come here (yippie!), and we left with our tummies stuffed and the gentlemen having a little bit too much to drink, bottomless, remember!? :P LOL!!! :)) read more

My sister had her rehearsal dinner here. They were VERY accomidating, attentive and reasonable priced. They provided us with a private seating area and it was decorated with fresh flowers when we arrived. The food was good, the bar was better. My bf and I decided to come for dinner (July 4th). I made an early reservation, 6:30, just in case they get busy. I guess it was too early bc their was no live band like other yelpers have mentioned. Overall: 4 stars. It was a really cute place in like an old town area. Plenty of street parking so that was nice. Our waitress was Monica, she was very nice and checked on us just enough, not like the ppl who come every minute or when you are in the middle of a bite to ask how you are doing. Food: Starter: it was off the special menu, "crazy fries." It has white and yellow cheddar, steak and a house special sauce on the side (similar to thousand island). The fries were a bit on the soggy side, and the meat was cut into really tiny pieces and overcooked. Entree: I ordered the filet mingon with a loaded potato and grilled veggies. -Filet: I asked for medium rare, but it wasn't as rare as I wanted. The flavor was good though. -Loaded potato came out luke warm, the cheese on it wasn't even melted, but I liked that it had bacon in it! -Grilled veggies was just grilled carrots. The BF ordered the 16 oz ribeye, and substituted the potato side for mac and cheese ($3 extra), and grilled veggies. -Ribeye: cooked medium rare (more rare than mine :)). The flavor was good, but it tasted more smokey than we prefer. -Mac and cheese: it was good! The best side we got. Overall it was a good experience. I think it is overpriced for the quality/caliber that you get. read more

Ate here Sunday around 2pm for a late brunch. It was nice out so I decided to sit outside. A bunch of rude tourists had decided to sit next to me without checking in with the hostess. They all pulled out their phones and played loud games or had lengthy conversations in Spanish. Regardless of the overwhelming scent of cheap cologne, I tried to enjoy myself. The hostess was cool even after the tourist group got up and left. They even left their garbage on the table. I asked her for a burger suggestion and she said The Broadway Burger was good because she liked avocado. I ordered it medium. It was pretty good. Bread didn't get soggy - when you take a bite make sure it's over the plate so it catches all the juices. Then make room on your plate for a "dry area" to set the burger down on so it doesn't get soggy. read more

I've even travelled down from SF to eat here because the NY Strip and Lox Salad have made a lasting impression on my taste buds! This family-run restaurant has a corner location, so you can choose to eat outside or in. I always stop by after a hike at CastleRock or bike by the bay as it is super easy to access from the highway, even if I'm picking up a to-go order. Perfectly cooked and it was melting in my mouth! Being a chef, I feel that it is hard when I go out to enjoy myself and feel satisfied. Motown Monday is spectacular. What a fun place to celebrate a birthday. Service was very attentive, anytime anyone asked them to take a photo they were more than happy to oblige. Cocktails: The Caribbean Strawberry Mojito was super yummy. I hear the cucumber gimlet is awesome too. Food: Appetizers came quickly and was very tasty. The steaks and prime rib were spot on. Dessert: I had the S'mores in a jar. Was very interesting, the melted marshmallow topping was super yummy along with the chocolate middle, I'm not sure but I think there was a little cake in it.
