Well, I'm sorry to see this place as a 3.9 stars and I have to honestly say I don't see why. I was met promptly at the door and seated. I was immediately asked if I would like flat or sparkling I ordered the skirt steak without mashed potatoes. I had to do this because the bread is so amazing. I limited myself to one piece. The butter is divine. Aperol spritz has all the right components and well balanced Restrooms super clean and a nice ambient beat is playing in the background. One of the things I find most frustrating about work is that the bar for mediocrity is set highly; the daily overexertion I pour into the cup of the collective is not celebrated or recognized as it is the standard to give 110%. Sometimes in my bluer days I wish that getting up and going to work was celebrated as an achievement in and of itself. I wish that my smiles and my right answers, my mini victories in knowing what to do, the accumulation and application of my experience, the precarious balance of the tiny tasks that are unsung and highly necessary, I wish it made my heart sing louder. I want to untie work validation from my internal validation, the same engine that feels good when running hot in the office can come from other tracks. I want to work on that this year, though I admit that the desire hasn't translated into the action yet. Luckily, I think I don't have to change my mediocrity meter for Yelp. To get the shrimp add on to my pasta, it was an additional $10 for five shrimp. TEN DOLLLARS??? FOR 5 TINY SHRIMP??? oh excuse me, the menu calls them prawns ... PRAWNS?? These tiny tough little morsels??? I KNOW they came in a frozen bag!! The things new American / wine bar / corporate card restaurants can get away with!!!! The teriyaki skirt steak was oh so sweet, the amount of sugar could eliminate and shroud any crimes of the beef itself, so sweet it felt like panda express. This is a hidden gem for their lunch specials! We're talking about like more upscale dining with suits and ties for around $30. Forget your SF restaurant week because this is every M-F and isn't going away. Comes with salad or soup and the salad was great. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer and thay was 5/5 delicious real crab with a good aioli sauce. My coworker had the salmon and it was a whole piece with all the veggies and potatoes with the sherbet for dessert. Totally worth it. My steak was an additional $20 upcharge but it was a good steak. Also, with all the fixings like veggies and stuff. Not a fan of their sherbet, but whatever. Service was decent. Great view of the Burlingame street to people watch. OMG - I'm SO HAPPY my friend recommended this place! Came to celebrate a friend's belated birthday and decided to do their power lunch. Which is $25 that includes 1) A Mixed Green Salad, Caesar Salad or Soup of the day; 2) Main course (with incremental cost if you want skirt steak, short ribs, rib eye, etc.) with a mix of pastas, chicken, salmon or beef; and 3) Sorbet for dessert. Ended up we all ordered the Salmon as entree - some had the mixed green and others had the Caesar Salad. I had the Caesar Salad and sadly ate my salad before I remembered to take a picture. It's a very decent size for lunch. A bit under dressed which was fine - as we asked more more dressing and got a bit more. The Caesar Salad dressing was AMAZING - had that anchovy flavor - I feel like they had either anchovy oil or bits o anchovy in the dressing - delicious!! Friends liked their mixed green salad as well - with their dressing on the side so they can put as much or as little dressing. The star for me was the Salmon! PEFECTLY cooked (not dry at ALL) salmon sitting on mashed potatoes, grilled onions and spinach all topped with the most DELICIOUS vodka cream dill sauce - which had a bit of lemon flavor - it was AMAZING. In fact I want to go back JUST for that salmon!!! OH I forgot a friend came later and got the crab cakes that also came with a mixed green salad. She seemed to enjoy it a lot - so that also was a hit!! And because we were celebrating a birthday - the birthday girl got a cheesecake along with a rowdy happy birthday song!! She shared and it was a pretty big piece - very tasty and a nice ending to our most delicious meal. But having said that their sorbet was so refreshing. Not overly sweet or tart. Came here for a dinner date with my boyfriend after we watched John Wick in theaters. It's a very lovely restaurant in Burlingame, a great choice for a nice night out for a date and/or feeling a bit bougie. We saw a few families, including a married couple with a baby. The bar is gorgeous, and we sat at a booth across from it. We enjoyed our entrees! We had: Risotto: Tiger prawns, bay scallops, shrimp, spinach, sundried tomatoes and shrimp bisque mascarpone sauce Seafood Linguini: Tiger prawns, bay scallops, shrimp, clams & mussles, lightly spiced with chili flex, served with tomato-basil light cream marinara sauce For dessert, we got cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. We had a group of 11 and were genuinely looking forward to dining here, but the experience was unacceptable before we even arrived. The hostess called claiming our reservation was at 7:15 PM which was completely incorrect (as you can see from my text confirmation). When I tried to clarify, she was rude, dismissive, and insisted I was wrong. She then abruptly told me the kitchen was closing was 9pm and hung up. This level of unprofessionalism and poor customer service is unacceptable. We canceled immediately and took our business elsewhere. First visit, came in for a business lunch. The space itself is lovely -- clean, stylish, and very well suited for a meeting. Everyone was well dressed, the room felt well run, and it's located in a cute, safe strip mall that works well for groups. Parking, however, is a headache, and it was surprisingly empty for a Friday lunch. Service was genuinely good. One person was covering both the bar and the tables and handled it impressively -- attentive, efficient, and never felt overwhelmed. The food, unfortunately, didn't quite match the ambiance. The burrata was a very small portion, though the salad was solid. Tomatoes were fine but forgettable. The sweet bread was excellent, though the olive oil and balsamic were placed awkwardly and hard to reach. The tacos leaned too greasy for my taste, and the drink was much milder than expected. The biggest miss was the steak, which came out overdone. Overall, it's a nice place to sit, talk, and feel comfortable -- especially for a meeting -- but the food itself was pretty mid and not something I'd return for. We selected this restaurant from Yelp while staying in Burlingame. It was a Saturday night, and they were very busy. There were several large family groups celebrating special occasions. Fortunately, we had reservations and were seated in a smaller room near the front. We shared a fried artichoke appetizer. I had cioppino; it is a must for me when near San Francisco. It had a variety of seafood served in a tasty tomato broth. The seafood included salmon, prawns, clams, mussels, and octopus. The octopus was a bit chewy. We also had the chicken that was prepared in a pesto sauce. It came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The service was great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

The level of service, the aesthetics and dining atmosphere, the menu and of course wonderful company made for the best experience here! Pricing is reasonable for slightly more upscale food & ambiance than the casual spots around Burlingame Ave. BF took advantage of the $25 Power Lunch which included a starter (minestrone soup was chock-full of veggies), main (+$20 for a sizable, tasty ribeye, which is still a decent price for the cut), & orange sorbet for dessert. I had the fried artichoke with lemon aioli ($14.99) & beet salad ($12.99) with the only note being the insufficient amount of crumbled goat cheese on the salad. I'd re-order both of these dishes in a heartbeat. We gave Saltyard a second chance to make a first impression & while they don't crack our Burlingame Top Ten, they're certainly an option on the rare occasion we want a nice sit-down Italian meal. read more

An amazing restaurant! I came in for the power lunch and was seriously impressed. For $45, I got a mixed green salad, a ribeye with potatoes and asparagus, and an orange sorbet to finish, it's a pretty great deal, especially considering the steak was literally the size of my head. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and super tender. Both the steak and the veggies were well seasoned and flavorful. The orange sorbet at the end was a refreshing, light palate cleanser that wrapped up the meal nicely. On top of the great food, the service was incredibly friendly and welcoming. This place is delicious and has a great variety of food. Tucked in a random corner in downtown Burlingame, it wasn't busy for a Friday evening which I wasn't expecting! They just get busy later in the afternoon bc they asked if we had a reservation but we still got seated right away. The complimentary bread is really good. This was a tasty but expensive lunch. I spent almost $75 for a flight of wine and Cioppino. My friend had the Seafood Pasta dish and an Aperol Spritz. We enjoyed sitting outside for an afternoon lunch. Our dishes were good and the portion was a nice size. There were big pieces of fish and plump shrimp in my Cioppino. I ordered a Cioppino and Parmesan Truffle fries to go and was very dissatisfied with the quality. Cioppino: a lot of clams and mussels included were not even open. There were a total of 2 pieces of squid. Shrimp was rubbery and overcooked. Flavor of the soup was very lacking, and basically only tasted of oil and tomato. For the price, I was expecting a lot more. This dish is over $40 bucks, but is not even worth $10. I also asked for silverware, and they did not give me a spoon for the Cioppino. Parmesan Truffle Fries: they charge $3 more for Parmesan and truffle. Yet when I opened the fries there was barely any Parmesan on top. There was probably a total of 1 teaspoon of parm. Plus, the Parmesan tasted like the type you get as pizza toppings. There was also ZERO truffle flavor. Overall, huge waste of money. Will not be coming back. read more

We had the spring roll appetizer and it was amazing, the meat balls were also good but not something that stood out (I'd order it again). We shared the rib eye and skirt steak and they were pretty good. Although the ribeye was grizzly and tougher (slightly gray, kinda odd to be honest). Also had the gelato and chocolate cake (mediocre). The ambience is cozy and laid back, and the service is super efficient and friendly enough. We've been here 3 times total and I'd come back and recommend Saltyard but will have to stay away from their ribeye. read more

We had a wonderful meal at Saltyard. Ambiance: Very busy and crowded (it was a Saturday evening). We opted to sit outside on the patio under the heat lamps. Food: Beef Spring Egg rolls: 3/5 A different take on the traditional egg rolls. There is beef and mozzarella inside and I believe maybe a creamy sauce of some sort. The outer shell was nice and crispy and perfectly fried and not too soggy. The horseradish sauce was to die for. I think I could've slapped it on anything and I would've liked whatever it was I was eating ;) I'm just not sure of the beef with the mozzarella combination. I think a sharper type of cheese would probably have worked better. Cioppino: 5/5 It was delicious with a flavorful broth. You could taste the seafood, but it was not overpowering. Lots of nice chunks of salmon in there, and they didn't skimp on that. My boyfriend wanted to add pasta, which I'd recommend to soak up all the soup. It definitely needs something starchy, other than the two slices of bread. However, the bread tasted heavenly with it. Chicken tenderloin: 4/5 The chicken was cooked to perfection. Not too overcooked, or undercooked. It was also very flavorful and tasted like it was good quality. It was imbued in a pesto creamy sauce, and it sat on top of mashed potatoes. It had some kind of peppers in there as well. Normally I love these peppers, however I don't think it complemented the chicken very well. The only thing I was very disappointed in was that there wasn't much mashed potatoes. You definitely need a lot more mashed potatoes to compensate for all that protein. read more

I made a reservation for 2:00 p.m. on Valentine's Day at Salt Yard in Burlingame. We arrived on time and were seated promptly, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the experience quickly went downhill due to the service. While I stepped away briefly to use the restroom, our server, Arbia, informed my wife that we had about 10 minutes to place our order because the kitchen would be closing for a Valentine's Day menu transition. This was surprising and frustrating, as there was no prior communication about this when I made the reservation. I received a confirmation text, but nothing indicating we would be on such a limited timeframe to order. Once we ordered, the service was very inattentive. We were given water initially, but there were no follow-ups. Our glasses sat empty for a while, and we had to flag down another staff member to request refills and assistance. When my ribeye was served, I was not provided a steak knife. I had to wait and rely on another staff member to address it, which took additional time. As a result, the steak sat and lost its optimal temperature, especially being cooked medium rare. By the time I was able to cut into it, it was no longer at its best, which took away from the overall dining experience. A steak should be served with the proper utensils from the start. After we asked another staff member for help, they had to notify our server to come back to the table. When Arbia finally came over, she refilled our water but spilled a noticeable amount on the table, did not acknowledge it, did not apologize, and made no effort to clean it up before walking away. At that point, it was clear we were not being properly attended to. Throughout the entire meal, there were no meaningful check-ins to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. It felt like we were overlooked rather than taken care of. The food itself was fine, but service is a major part of the dining experience--especially on an occasion like Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, this experience left us disappointed. This was our first time visiting, and based on this experience, it will likely be our last. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, as the service we received did not reflect the level of hospitality one would expect. read more

It's been years since we've went out for New Year's Eve but this year we were driving our daughter to San Francisco, so we ended up having dinner at the Saltyard. The location is great with parking conveniently across the street. The place was packed! I am so glad we made a reservation. We were seated in a tiny table for 2 by the front door. I got hit with a gust of cold air every time it opened. My husband started with an old fashion. That's his drink of choice. He said it tasted just like the old fashion from Costco. I'm not sure if that is good or bad. For our appetizer, we order the calamari. It was ok. They served it with fried onion rings and pickled peppers. For our entrees my husband got the short ribs and I got the seafood linguine. I am lactose intolerant so they said they could make the linguine diary free. It was not. My husband's short ribs were also not short ribs. It was a different cut of meat, possible chuck roast. They also ran out of most of their desserts except for Cheesecake which i cannot eat. Hold on, you're thinking, it's only $25?! the portion sizes MUST be miniscule. I hate (love) to break it to you, but it's actually a full size entree. Which if you look at their menu prices (go ahead, I'll wait) entrees range from $17.99 to $45.99 you can go basic by choosing pasta as your entree or pay the extra supplement and a steak for lunch. With the mixed green salad as a starter and a light orange sorbet as your palette cleanser, you are set for the rest of the day, head back into the office and tackle HR Cheryl's emails that been hounding you for a few days now. The ambiance can pass for date night with the dimly lit space and dark colors and they have a nice patio that could be really welcoming in the summertime. Then we ordered another glass of wine. We tried the wine but it might have been left open for too long and the taste had changed. We requested to get a new bottle of wine. Came here for our family Christmas Eve dinner for three, happy that they were open for the evening. Been here before for another family gathering and had a fabulous experience and wanted to try some other dishes this time around. Service was amazing as expected, love the mood and atmosphere of the place - intimate and lively. We had a great start with the Caesar salad, beef rolls, and meatballs-these are a must try. For entrees we had 2 ribeyes and 1 skirt steak. The skirt steak was delicious as we remembered. But both our ribeyes were very chewy halfway through. One us ate through it but had to spit out what could not be digested and all the grisly parts on the plate. I on the other hand had split my steak to get a piece of the skirt. I should have just ordered the skirt. Decided to leave my leftovers. If it weren't for the service ambiance and appetizers I wouldn't given 4 stars. Advice if you're gonna serve steak make sure the quality is the same for everything. Dessert was ok - warm chocolate cake with vanilla gelato and an order of espresso gelato. I was looking for a good dinner spot and was very pleasantly surprised by how great their Ribeye (49.99) Prime grade grilled rib eye steak, garlic-herb mashed potatoes, assorted mixed veggies, and homemade steak sauce was. The steak was cooked perfectly and went really well with their homemade steak sauce. The workers were friendly and provided excellent service. Great place for a late night dinner read more
