My elderly mother brought her Camry in to get a smog everything passed except for the visual inspection, they stated her air intake hose was cracked they charged my mother $157 and told her to go fix it and come back and she'll have to pay again to have it retested. She immediately went to another shop and had them replace her air intake hose. When trying to bring it back for a retest they're saying she has to do the entire smog inspection over again and she has to pay again. I've been to many smog shops and you get 1 free retest! Not this place!! She took her car to smog express on Folsom Boulevard and they only charged her $70 for the entire smog and certificate. This place is a rip off and they take advantage of the elderly people and woman. I do not recommend taking your vehicle to this place especially if you're elder or a woman!! read more

The gentleman here is very friendly, fast, and efficient. I called on a Friday morning and expected to be told there was an hour or two wait but when he answered and I explained my situation, he told me to come down and he'd get me right in. (I didn't realize until that day that I needed a smog to get my car registered and it was due that day! Totally my fault for not opening the registration notice.). Anyway, I went down and he had me in and out in 20 minutes, and he had the info to the dmv right away. I was able to complete the online registration process as soon as I got home! Name: Sanjeev Singh License Number: EO633638 Went to Smog Gold Station and swore the technician was trying to invent something to fail me on. I was correct. He decided to fail me claiming OBD system check caused me to fail because of a communication error. I tried to explain to the technician as that this is a 1999 BMW and if it has a round 20 PIN BMW Connector under the hood that is what is needed to connect to. He said I was wrong. I said I could go home and grab my OBDII reader and Adaptor and prove that there is no communication error. Retuned and he just told me I was failing anyhow and he didn't care to look at anything because he was the expert. NOT on BMW that's for sure. Contact the BAR and filed a complaint and have arranged to meet with referee as I don't think I should pay anymore money out. read more

Star Certified Smog Check in Oak Park on Broadway. Great and convenient location with plenty of parking and a waiting area. Quick and easy service. No waiting. I just pulled right up. The attendant with nice and pleasant. The total charge was around $65 ish which is about right. Probably a few cheaper places but this one was closer to me. They have a small waiting area and the total time in and out was 20 minutes so I didn't feel I needed to go somewhere else to wait. The place was clean and fine. I'd suggest having a radio or something in the waiting area. I brought a book so I just read which was fine. Conclusion: quick and easy place to get a Star Certified Smog Check. Price was fine. A few dollars more than some but whatever. I'll come back here. read more

I drove right in with out an appointment. A very pleasant gentlemen and his daughter were the only ones in front of me in line and they kept me company while I waited. This place has fantastic signage and is very convenient. The price is probably average. Usually I use a coupon, but this year I didn't plan ahead. I was just happy they could take me on my lunch break. I do not recommend this place. I went on Saturday to have my car smogged and when they were done he greeted me at the window with my paperwork and said "Ok, you're done" and I said "We're all good, passed?" And he said "Yeah". I paid and assumed the info would be sent to DMV. I didn't think any more of it until I looked like an idiot at DMV yesterday to have them show me that it had actually failed. I cannot comprehend why you wouldn't point out and tell the paying customer that it failed so that they would know to go fix whatever the issue. Pretty ridiculous way to run business. I will never go there again! Update: I was never offered a free retest! I left thinking my car had passed because the person there told me I did. This place is still great -- I've been using them for 7 years now on various cars. No matter who is working, they are fast, friendly, and organized. With no line, you'll be in and out in 10 minutes. I don't like giving bad reviews but I seriously do not understand how this place gets so many 5 star ratings. The young man who took care of my car was not the owner so maybe that is why my experience was so horrible and completely different from what others are writing about. The guy who was working that day was not helpful at all, rude, and in my experience very dishonest. The check engine light in my car had come on the night before I brought it in but since we were already behind on the registration I brought it in for the smog check before getting the car serviced. I didn't realize that alone would mean the car would fail but Smog Wizard should have known that. Instead they charged me the $59 fee and ran the test which of course the car didn't pass. The guy then tells me "the car didn't pass, you have to get serviced and bring it back to retest" I ask where I bring it to and he just says "there are places downtown." He didn't even give a shit to try to help me. So I find a garage that is also highly recommended on Yelp. But when I ask them to fix the car they can't b/c they are not Smog Certified! SERIOUSLY! Apparently when you fail the Smog test - you're car becomes blacklisted and can only be repaired at garages that are designated as a Smog Repair shops, which the guy at Smog Wizard failed to tell me. So I called the guy at Smog Wizard to ask if he could tell me how to find these designated shops, perhaps give me some recommendations. Instead he rudely tells me "just look online" (see the theme on how they are not helpful and why the customer service is lacking). So I called a few shops asking if they are "smog certified repair shops." Luckily I found Auto Express, who does Smog Repairs AND the Smog test - this is a much better option than a smog test station like Smog Wizards considering if your car doesn't pass, they can't fix it nor can they refer you to a place that does fix it. As soon as I told them the story with the check engine light coming on the night before, they wondered why the guy at Smog Wizards would have even tested it knowing it wouldn't pass with the light on. And that is why I say they are DISHONEST!!! I'm giving one star b/c I have to and at least they only charge $9 for the repeat test once you get your car fixed. I would NOT recommend Smog Wizards nor will I ever go back there again. read more

This is a family owned business. Every time I come here for a smog they are friendly, fast and reliable in their standards and service. Although they do have a stressful stream of business ice never had to wait more than 20 minutes. They electronically send the results to the DMV immediately. I love that they do that because it allows me to just run over to DMV and finish whatever business I have with them. This is a simple no frills place that offers friendly, fast and reliable service. Couldn't pass smog because I had a recall done on my car that wiped out all my computers data, had to drive around to get enough data and the worker there, didn't get his name, was kind enough to check multiple times if my computers were ready before he failed me again. He didn't have to do that so that was very much appreciated. Finally passed after a few go arounds but was only charged half the price to re test it since I had already failed once, maybe that's common but I was expecting to pay full price again so that was a plus. read more
